Back in the village of Torpenhow, Mother Mulholland went back to her house. She went into her attic and turned on the light, showing a chained-up woman near one of the support beams. "Great job last night, Janine." she said.
"Mary," Janine replied, "I've done as you asked. Now let me go!"
"Not yet, Bane." Mother Mulholland sat down. "The Doctor is here."
"Is he? I thought he was a myth."
"Well, he's real. Well, she. I think I managed to trick her into thinking I wasn't involved."
"What do you want with her, anyway?"
"Vengeance, Janine. I'll be needing you for the next part of the plan."
The Doctor, Jessica, and Ryan all got out of the TARDIS, saline spray in hand. They met up with Mother Mulholland, who had just released Janine and got the rest of the village on their mobile phones. "Any progress?" the Doctor asked.
"Everyone's on their phones." Mother Mulholland replied, "We'll find that monster in no time."
"Great. Call everyone in the village. That'll cause enough emissions to cripple the Bane. Then, we use the saline spray to immobilise them and I'll ship it back home."
"Great. I'll be in the church if you need me." Mother Mulholland went away and muttered to herself "Soon, Doctor."
After Mother Mulholland got into the church, the Doctor turned around to Jessica and Ryan. "After we get the Bane, we need to take a look at Mother Mulholland. She's acting odd."
"What's so odd about her?" Jessica asked.
"I saw a look in her eyes when I first got out here and said who I was. It was a look of contempt. I just saw that look again. She must know about me, and now knows that I can change faces with regeneration. However, we still have a Bane to stop, so let's look for them."
"And if she kills us before we get the Bane?" Ryan asked.
The Doctor looked at Ryan straight in the eyes, stone-faced in her expression. "She won't. Now, the Bane."
Jessica and Ryan nodded and followed the Doctor. The trio managed to wander around the village, with every phone giving off a high amount of emissions because of their phone usage. The Doctor used this to determine that the Bane could only really be at one place: the farmhouse where William Hardy was murdered. They got there and saw a giant green shelled cephalopod in the passage: the Bane was found. "Oi, squid man!" Ryan yelled, attracting the attention of the beast.
"Doctor!" the Bane said, eyeing Ryan just after gaining its attention.
"Oh, he's not the Doctor. I am." the Doctor replied, "I'm here to stop you killing people, you big old cuttlefish."
"Hey, that looks like the guy that took you to the palace when we were on Ur." Jessica remarked.
"Same species." The Doctor noticed something about the Bane. "...and just as enslaved as the last one we encountered." The Bane groaned and the Doctor's eyes shone. "Mother Mulholland was involved, wasn't she?"
"Enough of this." Ryan snatched the Doctor's saline spray and used it on the Bane, causing its skin to dry up.
"Ryan!" The Doctor snatched the spray back out of Ryan's grasp. "Mother Mulholland is behind this. This Bane is being forced to kill. If we keep it alive, we'll use it for information."
The Bane was lying on the floor in immense pain while the Doctor was approaching it. "Kill... me..."
"Could you tell us about Mother Mulholland first? We'll deal with her once we have enough information. I know you're being forced to kill, but why?"
"She told me it was for vengeance..."
"I don't recall meeting her before..." The Doctor thought about it for a few seconds. "...unless she knows me from one of my earlier incarnations."
"How the hell did she get you, anyway?"
"And who are you...?"
"The woman who just talked to you is Jessica, and the man on my right is Ryan. We'll get you moisturised and back to your home in no time."
"Behind you..."
The Doctor turned around and stopped an attempt at killing her by Mother Mulholland, while Jessica ended up punching her in the face. Mother Mulholland was on the floor, clutching her right cheek in pain. "What is your problem with me, Mother?" the Doctor asked.
Mother Mulholland spat out some blood and a tooth. "My husband died because of what you did, Doctor!"
"I've done something?" The Doctor sat with her legs crossed. "Explain."
"Fifth of March, 2005. Remember that date?"
"Oh..."
