Miles sat on a bed inside a dim lit home. He could not see clearly as his head was feeling fuzzy. He had just woken up and had been informed that he was asleep for a whole day, though he did not know who informed him. All he heard that time was the soothing soft voice of a female…

…someone who almost sounded like her.

This tingled Miles for a bit. Goosebumps graced all over his skin. He could almost clearly remember that hour when he woke up and couldn't see anything for a long while. He thought he would but he wouldn't let him speak.

-Flashback-

Miles felt like he was going to die at that very second. The moment he could feel his whole body shifting and entering that book that he (and his friends) called a nightmare. It was almost as if his whole body was tearing apart itself in half.

When he woke up, he felt a sharp pain in his head. He opened his eyes, but he couldn't see anything but clouds.

That was when he panicked. And he was never ever the panicking type. In fact, he panicked so much that he began to hyperventilate.

"Where am I? Am I dead? Please I don't want to die yet! Oh my god. Am I— am I still breathing? I— I…"

"Please stay calm."

The voice he heard was oddly familiar to him. The female's voice he heard sounded so sweet and gentle, much like… like…

…Cameron's.

"Cameron?" Miles choked. He felt a wave of emotions, in fact, he didn't know how to feel at that very moment. Should he be scared because he couldn't see? Or should he be glad that he heard her? Or should he feel guilt for hurting her?

"Hmm?" was the only response he got. Nothing after that until after a minute later. "Are you okay?"

Even with just that phrase, he immediately knew it wasn't her. Whenever he feels down or weary, she never asks him if he is okay. She would always ask, 'what's wrong?'

"What's going on?" Miles began to cry. He wasn't exactly the type to show strong emotions, but he couldn't help it because he felt, for almost the first time, scared.

"Shh…" the soft shushing of the female soothed him as he felt a gentle rub on his back. His vision was blurred due to his tears, but when his sense of sight cleared, he could see a pretty female mouse in front of him. He stared at her. For some reason, even though she was totally different: being a mouse, wearing clothing of different patterns… she somehow reminded him of Cameron.

He let her comfort him in that hour. He doesn't know her, but for some odd reason, he felt safe in her arms.

-End Flashback-

"Hello," the female said.

When Miles' vision cleared, he saw that his assumptions were correct. In front of him sat a pretty mouse who looked exactly the same as the one from the flashback he was having.

"I see you have finally awaken." she spoke with such sincerity that he felt a sense of safety and security with her. "I'm Sophia Darkside. I rescued you when you passed out by the waterfall in the Bastion."

Miles heard her, but there were no words coming out of his mouth. He didn't know how to respond. When he planned to however, knocks were heard from the door and it opened, revealing a male mouse.

"Sophia, is Jonathan awake?" he asked the female mouse, Sophia. His gaze shifted towards Miles who has already awaken from his slumber. "Oh Jonathan, you're awake! Good evening!"

"Who's Jonathan?" Miles immediateley asked, oblivious to the fact that this male mouse was calling him Jonathan.

"You're… not Jonathan Jadesong?" the mouse was stunned at the possibility.

Miles was taken aback. "Me? Jonathan Jadesong?" He did his signature scoff and rolled his eyes. "You must be mistaken."

"I'm not, I'm sure of it." The male mouse approached him with a hand reaching out for Miles to shake. "I'm Dyvim Whitehart, and I was informed by the king of Khrysalis that you would be hear to restore the Bastion into its rightful place, as it has been abandoned for quite an ample amount of time."

Miles snorted and swatted Dyvim's hand away. Talk about friendly. "Look Devin or whatever your name was, I… I don't… I don't believe in any of this shit."

"That's alright." Dyvim nodded understandingly, but had a catch. "But if I was correct, then you'll have to regret swatting my hand away later on."

"Nice to see mice having hands now." Miles remarked.

"I'll leave you two to talk things out for a while. Dyvim, please fill him in with all of the information around here." Sophia smiled sweetly before heading out of the room.

Dyvim saw Miles staring at the female mouse. He looked down towards the intricately decorated floorboards, then at Miles. "You were staring at her, Jonathan."

The brown haired boy gulped. Dyvim had caught wind of him intelligently, and this left Miles mortified as hell. "Jonathan, be honest. Do you… find her pretty?"

Miles flinched. Not because Dyvim was calling him Jonathan, but he flinched at the sudden question that was given to him. But when he looked at Dyvim, the mouse didn't seemed all too fazed by asking that. With that, Miles slowly responded with a nod.

"Heh heh. I've been fond of her since she taught me Shadowmancy." the mouse replied.

"Shadowmancy?" Miles, now Jonathan, asked him. He wasn't aware of the fact that this she-mouse, Sophia, whom he suddenly grew fond of, knows how to perform such magic.

"Yes." Dyvim nodded.

The two had stayed in awkward silence for a while. That was when three knocks on the door came in.

"Dinner must be ready, we should head out now." the mouse stood up. "Sophia has told me to stay in for the night to look after you."

"Okay?" Jonathan murmured. "I mean… thank you."

A quick time skip to the next few days, Jonathan was already feeling healthy. He, Dyvim, and Sophia would often spend time on Bastion. Jonathan would watch Sophia and Dyvim battle each other and spar it out. However, this was when Jonathan started to feel a tingling sensation of jealousy within the two mice. The way Dyvim always lets Sophia go first, the way she held his arm so she wouldn't stumble and fall on the bridge, the way how she playfully smacks him when he tells a joke… for some reason, he was jealous. And he shouldn't be, because first of all, they weren't human.

One day at the Bastion, Sophia wanted to teach Jonathan how to handle Shadow magic. This was when Jonathan declined the offer.

"Sophia…" Jonathan looked at the mouse directly in the eyes. "I… I have to go. I don't think I can stay here much longer."

"What?" Sophia gasped. "You've only been here for three days. I'm not sure if you're ready enough to go. "You—"

"I don't want to ruin what you and Dyvim have. It's just that…" Jonathan heaved a sigh. "You reminded me of someone. Someone who I love. Well… loved. And for some reason, that love passed onto you."

Sophia was confused. Little did they know that Dyvim was watching from the corner.

"Sophia, I like you. And…" Jonathan stood up, looking towards the oblivious world gate that wasn't far away. He didn't know it was a world gate, he knew it was just an ordinary door. But he ran there anyway.

"Jonathan, wait!" Sophia's words of plea rang onto his ears, but he just kept running for the door, opening it and closing it behind him.

He knew it was the end for him. But when he woke up, he found himself in a rather larger predicament. Looking around himself, he began to process the fact that he was now inside a tree.

"Where… am I?"
