A/N: plot bunny spawned from the depths of suffering Naruto fics. A Puppet's tale is really hard to write due to finding a way to weave character interactions in the way I like.

I own no characters except if I create an OC but I do own story elements that are not part of the naruto world, all else is owned by Kishimoto.

Disclaimer for general audience: This is a work of fiction and no people were hurt in the creation of this fic. Gore, blood, and fowl language is likely to occur. I will not do any sexual violence, but later chapters if I so choose might have a lime, because Tragedy must have it's fluff still to drop you even farther down the hole.

Please enjoy the start of, A Wish Granted: prologue

-Start-

Hinata Hyuga ran as fast as she could, dodging and weaving between the many passersby as they walked down the street with little care in the world. Blurs of people quickly shifted to blurs of wooden panels and trash cans as she turned into a narrow alleyway to try to catch up to her target and their entourage. No people had gotten in her way on the streets as ninja ran past people almost as often as birds flew above their heads. But this speeding Hyuga, with their veins pulsing around her eyes, and famous blank white eyes shown with something in explicable causing many to wonder and follow the girl as she ran.

Quickly Hinata ran down the alleyway, faster and faster as her breathing became more labored as she ran. Eyes glimpsing from the back that a few people were following her, but those were not her target. For the targets seemed to have stopped a few hundred meters away around a bend. As her steps faltered slightly and heart feeling like it was going to leap out of her throat, she ran as fast as she could, as she noticed peripherally that once blurred streets slowly turned into a dank alleyway with garbage littering it.

She felt the pain in her body, and strain in her chakra flow as her energy left her body as she exhaustedly ran ever closer to her target. Not able to keep her Byakugan activated any longer, she was forced to deactivate it to conserve her little remaining strength. Only knowing that her target was now around the corner, and not what horrors may lie there.

Running, running, running.

Running out of breath and Chakra hoping to reach her quarry, every second feeling like an eternity had passed. Sweat dripped off her face as her feet carried her down the alleyway, towards her goal.

Tap, tap, tap.

Hinata's feet drew closer to the bend, as she realized her Chakra was spent, pushing her body even farther than her most extreme training. As she rounded the corner she saw it lead back out into the streets, the bright sunlight shining down upon her head, not seeing her target in sight.

What was unusual was the large crowd of people that seemed to congregate around something, and yelling shouts of profanity in the direction of the center of the people. Shouts of death threats and demonic beings were tossed toward whatever was in the middle of these people. Hinata moved into the crowd and pushed people out of the way until she reached the center where she saw something that would be burned into her mind for the rest of time.

Bloodied and broken was the body of a child, who looked about ten years of age. Eyes that were once belonged to a person full of love and care for a home, and now layed almost completely blinded and broken. Blonde hair that showed in the sunlight and was a hope to the place called home, now worn by a child whose hair was yellow but dyed a color of red like blood. Cheeks once full of smiles and laughter as they were for a village that housed a family that once lived, now everything they had once had was caked in blood. Naruto Uzumaki was sat in the middle, as not a martyr, not a hero, not Naruto Uzumaki, but as a demon who took away their lives. A beacon of concentrated hate that the village could never stand to live.

As Hinata finally pushed through the crowd of villagers, she saw the form of her target, her light in a dreadful world, a sunshine that was extinguished, and she cried. No more sunshines, no more light in the dark world of the ninja, only a lost hope. As streams of tears began to flow, the villagers that had followed the heiress started to shout.

"Oh the Hyuga Heiress was chasing down that Demon! Finally the demon is dead and we have to celebrate it Now!" exclaimed one of the villagers from the alley.

"Finally the Hokage ordered someone to chase it down and kill it." proclaimed another shout.

"Are you sure she was the one that injured it?" asked another.

"Of course she did, why else would he be so injured after running out of there, he must've shaken her off for a bit!" pondered another

"At least we could finish it off but she should get the credit right!" the last said in response.

These shouts and whispers continued and continued until people started to crowd the original group. Closing in on the girl as she collapsed with tears in her eyes over the body of Naruto Uzumaki. As they kicked the body of the demon more and more, leaving it bloodier. Not really looking down at the girl who tried to cover the body more, to protect the body of her favorite person, to protect her sunshine from the harm, even if the body now lay motionless on the ground.

As the villagers continued to shout into the air their triumph over the demon, as the village descended down into groups of partying people, they could hear a loud voice from the crowd of an indiscernible villager that reflected something that should not have been said… "My Wish has been granted. Mother, Father, Yondaime Hokage, we have avenged your losses." As cheers exploded in applause.

A wish granted to the villagers, to those who wished with all their might for a death. So happy and so jubilant, they forgot the girl who seemed to have helped kill their demon, the boy who lost his life, and finally the demon who had been freed. Their wishes for respect, dreams of a happy future, of a world full of peace, vanished into the crisp air.

A wish was granted that day and all of the people rejoiced, while the few mourned.

Was a wish truly granted that day or was that wish, a wish that should never have been granted nor made.

A/N:

Quick answers for general stuff, Hiruzen would protect Naruto, but unfortunately Danzo would interfere, and while you can silence the populace, it does not mean you can massacre the populace as its leader. Military dictatorship could be true, but even a dictator needs people, and ninja can't make a village by itself. Anyways, kinda flimsy arguments on my end but this is kinda the start.
