Slow. I felt slow. Even with my new supernatural speed, I felt like I couldn't get back to the house fast enough. I felt like we were going at a slow joggers pace. I wanted to see Xander and Ellie but I felt that we were running so slow. Probably the anticipation was getting to me.
I only got to see them and touch them briefly. I wanted to hold them. The twins were now center-stage in my mind. All I could think about was them.
"Tell me about them," I tell Alex as I keep running.
"They are incredible. They are like nothing else in this world. Well, apart from Renesmee." I heard the devotion in his voice. It made me happy that he loved his children. There was a time where he didn't want them to be born.
After what felt like an eternity, we stopped at the edge of the forest near the house. I stared at it in longing. My two kids were on the other side of those walls.
"Describe them for me. What do they look like? How much vampire do they have? You said they are warm blooded and have heartbeats." I look at Alex and he chuckles at all of my questions.
"Slow down. They are both an even match between the two of us. Xander has blonde hair and blue eyes. I guess he got that from me. I've been a vampire for so long that I forgot what the color of my eyes were when I was human. Ellie's hair is brown. She has you're eyes, love." I smile at the descriptions. It's good to know that one of them has green eyes. So I would never forget what my eyes looked like before I was turned.
"How much of them are human?" I question.
"They are both warm-blooded and have heart beats. Though, their hearts beat a little faster than a humans. They both sleep. Quite well for newborns actually. They also have vampire traits. They have impenetrable skin like we do."
"What do they eat?"
Alex chuckles. "That is the interesting part. They both want blood. Just blood. Ellie will drink about any kind of blood but Xander is a picky eater. He only want's you're blood type. B-."
"Do we have any? We ran out right before I went into labor." Alex grimaces at the mentioning of me giving birth. I guess it was hard for him to think about.
"We were able to get more after the wolves left. We managed to get some but it's not a whole lot. We are trying to persuade him with different types but he keeps having tantrums. Carlisle keeps trying to give them baby formula but that's not going well. Carlisle actually gave up on Xander after his most recent fit."
I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. Why would they stop trying?
"What do you mean? Is he ok?" I look at the house in anticipation.
"He's fine. The both of them are perfectly safe. I'll just say that the both of them are...gifted."
"Gifted? Like how we are?"
"Yes. They both have a gift. Its incredible really. It's hard to explain it. Best that you experience it first hand."
I nod and glance at him before looking back at the house. I wanted to go inside. I needed to see them.
"Can we go in? I want to see them."
Alex smiles at me adoringly. "Of course." He laces his fingers with mine and steers me in the direction of the house. I am so consumed in my own thoughts that I didn't realize that someone else had arrived.
"Well, you're a sight for sore eyes." I grimace at the voice. What was he still doing here?
"What are you doing here Paul?" I notice how Paul and Alex exchange looks.
"Just wanted to see you with that new eye color of yours. You're really freaky looking right now."
"Watch it mutt," Alex hisses.
They still don't get along. I sigh. I crack Paul a smile. He hasn't changed. "I know. Freaky huh? Still not used to the eyes."
"They'll change right?" he asks.
I nod. "I'm told in a couple of months. Wish it was sooner."
"It'll be fine. They will change from you're new diet. You did amazing for you're first hunt. They will change in no time," reassures Alex.
I smile at him. "Time's somewhat irrelevant for us now, huh?"
Alex smiles. "Blink and it'll be year 2180." I smile at him. I was going to spend forever with this man.
I look over Paul's shoulder and stare at the house. I really wish I had X-Ray vision. I wanted to see them. I take a step forward and stop when Paul moves to block my path. I furrow my brows in confusion.
"Why are you blocking me? I want to see my children."
"You will, I just need to make sure you are under control," Paul replies.
"Why?" I demand. Why does he need to make sure I was in control.
I look at Alex and he has his eyes narrowed. "Ellie and Xander are half human. They have blood in their veins. They have heart beats. Just want to make sure that you won't hurt them or be tempted," Paul says.
I growl at Paul. I would never hurt them. "Calm down, Soph. He's just trying to help," Alex says through clenched teeth.
"What's going on? Why are the two of you acting so weird."
Alex huffs and Paul shifts side to side. "I'll explain later," the werewolf shifter replies. "Go on Sophie. Take a whiff."
I glance at the two of them before staring at Paul. Fine.
I stand my ground and take in a breath. It helped that I ate so much. The smell of blood was there and it smelled sweet, but it was quickly overpowered by a wet dog smell.
The smell of wet matted fur invaded my senses. I can see why everyone complained. I look at Paul and relax. "I can see what everyone is talking about. You really do stink Paul." Alex laughs at my statement and wraps his arms around my waist.
Paul cracks a smile and rolls his eyes. "You don't smell pleasant either princess."
I huff in agitation. Still with the nicknames.
"I love you," whispers Alex into my ear.
I smile. "Love you two," I reply. I look at Paul again and then at the house past his shoulder. "Did I pass the test? Can I go inside now?"
Paul looks at me in thought before nodding. "Sure." Paul turns on his heel and runs to the house before disappearing inside.
"What is that all about? He didn't want to be around them and now he's acting like this," I say while waving my hand.
Alex let's go of my waist. "You'll find out soon. I'll explain later."
Alex steps beside me and clenches his teeth in frustration.
"You look like you want to murder the guy."
"I've contemplated about it. You'll understand why soon."
I hated that I was being kept out of a secret but I couldn't think about that right now.
"Will you hold onto me while I'm in there. Make sure that I don't do anything drastic."
Alex gives my hand a comforting squeeze. "Of course I will. Though, I don't think you'll need it." I nod and walk towards the house.
Emmett and Jasper meet me at the door. I smile. "Hey guys. Will you please be close to me too?"
They both smile at me. "Of course we will," replies Jasper. I nod before heading into the house.
There's a small crowd in the living room. Alex, Jasper, and Emmett stay next to me as I walk further into the house. I notice Esme and Carlisle standing to the side along the far wall. Tanya and Carmen are leaned up against the stairs. I look ahead and notice Irina and Kate holding two little bundles. I don't miss how Paul situates himself in front of them. Though, he's standing closer to the baby that Irina is holding. She growls at his proximity but doesn't say anything.
I can tell that Paul is uncomfortable with this too. I look around me and notice that the only people missing are Edward, Bella, Jacob, Rosalie, Renesmee, Seth and Leah.
I stare at the two babies that are being held by Irina and Kate. I take in their appearance. A smile graces my face. I could easily tell that Irina was holding Ellie and Kate was holding Xander. I look at the two of them.
Xander was a carbon copy of Alex. I observe his blonde hair that was coming out of his scalp. He had ocean blue eyes that stared back at me in wonder. Ellie leaned and peered around Paul. Ellie was a mix between Alex and myself. She had brown hair that was coming together in curls. The brown shade was a little lighter than mine. She also had Alex's nose. Alex was right. She did have my green eyes.
I was astounded at how big they were. "I've only been out for three days?" I question. They both looked to be months old.
Ellie and Xander both stared at me in interest. They weren't staring at me as if they were a child. Their interest was more adult like; intelligent. I almost didn't think that these two were my children. They've grown so much.
I take a step forward towards them when Irina and Kate both take a step back. I freeze in my tracks as I stare at them. Everyone except for Alex, Emmett and Jasper shift forward. Paul situates himself fully in front of Ellie so that I could no longer see her. I feel like they are trying to trap me so that I can't move.
I would be lying if I said that it didn't hurt my feelings. I wanted to growl and demand to see them. I haven't even been able to hold them yet. I try not to take it too personal because I know they are just being cautious. Part of me was happy that they wanted to protect them. Even though they are protecting them from me.
"Come on guys. Give her some credit," Alex says as he wraps his arm around my waist.
I lean into him.
"She wasn't going to do anything. You would want to take a closer look too." I look at Alice. She's giving me too much credit. I was in control but part of me was nervous. I wasn't thirsty and I wasn't tempted about drinking from them. They didn't bother me.
"We're just being cautious Alex. We don't know how well she is at being around people with blood," says Carlisle. I glance at my father and try to smile.
"Well I do. We encountered a human and Sophie was able to get out of the situation." I wince at his statement. I wasn't too proud of that moment.
"What?" questions Carlisle.
"There was a mountain climber near us. They scrapped their knee. Sophie went after them but managed to stop herself before she killed the person. She managed to run away from the scent."
"Barely," I couldn't help but whisper. I knew that they all heard me.
"I think this is a bad idea," interjects Paul. I narrowed my eyes at the fact of how close he was to the twins. More so to Ellie. I had an inkling of an idea why. I just hope that I'm wrong.
"So, she didn't hunt the human?" questions Jasper.
"No I didn't. I was tempted though. It was only after I threw Alex off a cliff when I saw reason. He had to help me get out of there."
Emmett stared at me. "You threw him off a cliff?"
I sigh. "Yes but I didn't touch him. That energy or whatever it is knocked him away from me and he flew off the cliff. Landed on a tree."
Emmett chuckled in amusement. "Wish I could have seen that."
"Emmett!" I hiss.
"Makes sense," says Eleazer. I turn and stare at him. I didn't realize that he was in the room.
"What do you mean? Can you tell what her gift is?" asks Alex.
Eleazer smiles. "Yes, I finally can pin point it. It was blocking me out when you were human but now that it is more pronounced, I can finally tell what it is."
I was tuned into what he was saying. I've been curious about what it is exactly.
"You are a shield. More of a physical shield with telekinetic tendencies."
I furrow my brows in confusion. "What?" The shield made sense but I was at a loss for what the other thing was.
"You're a shield which is why Alex's, Aro's and Edward's gifts don't work on you. But you're not mental. It's more physical. Basically when you are in danger you can keep people away from you without being touched. You can also control things with your mind which is why things float around you sometimes. You are only mental when it comes to reading your mind or controlling you. You basically have two powers in one."
Huh. Made some sense. I glance around me and notice how everyone's eyes are big. "What?" I ask. Why was everyone looking at me like that.
"That's rare. I've never heard of anyone being a physical shield. Let alone having telekinetic powers on top of that," says Carlisle.
"Aro doesn't have any records on physical shields. Only mental shields. No wonder he wants you," says Alex.
I guess I'm more powerful that I thought.
"You'll need to practice but you'll eventually become powerful. Very powerful," agrees Eleazer. Huh. Interesting
"I'll worry about that later. Can I please see them now?"
Everyone glances at each other. I see Kate and Irina relax a little. "You haven't gone into a frenzy so I guess it's ok," Irina replies. Kate nods in agreement.
"Wait! I don't think this is a good idea," argues Paul. "She's a newborn and she almost killed a person."
"Paul, she's doing fine," hisses Alex. I'm getting uncomortable at everyone argueing.
"Can everyone stop yelling please," I say. I glance at Xander and Ellie. "Maybe Paul's right. Maybe I should wait."
"No. You're fine. Paul's just..." Alex gets cut off by a squeal that comes from Xander. I look at him just in time to hear a pop and witness him vanishing from Kate's arms.
Paul sighs. "Here we go again," he mumbles. I look around me and feel my arms extend out as I hear another pop. I feel weight land in my cold marble arms.
I look down in astonishment at the fact that Xander is now in my arms staring at me in amazement. He smiles and giggles in delight.
"What just happened?" I whisper. I stare at my son in amazement.
"Our son over here can teleport," says Alex. "Told you he was gifted."
"Thankfully, it seems he can only teleport to places that he physically sees. Hopefully, it stays that way," interjects Carlisle.
"Yeah, we don't need him teleporting all the way to China," chuckles Emmett.
"The little nightmare keeps teleporting everywhere to avoid baby formula and any blood that isn't B-." quips in Paul.
I glare at Paul. "He is not a nightmare," I hiss. Paul is starting to get on my nerves.
I bring my son further into my arms and smile down at him adoringly. I stare into his blue eyes and notice the paleness of his skin. His blond hair was coming in chunks. I saw the little rolls in his arms and legs. He was my little chubbers. I couldn't believe that this was real.
I smile and look up at Alex. He smiles at me and takes Xander out of my arms. I look over to see that Irina has stepped out of the way from Paul. I could now see little Ellie. She makes her way to me when Paul stops her.
Irina hisses. "Don't touch me mongrel."
Paul glares at her as a cry fills the air. I stare at Ellie in alarm. "Is she ok? Why is she crying?"
Ellie's cries slow down and she stares up at Irina. Irina nods at her. "Ok." Irina looks back up at me. "She's fine. She's just anxious to see you. She's been waiting for you for three days."
"Really?" Irina steps around Paul and comes to me.
"Yes. She's been wanting to see you." I stick my arms out and Irina gently places her into my arms.
I stare at the little being in my arms. I notice her brown hair and how its starting to curl. Her green eyes glow as they stare into my red ones. Her eyes resemble emeralds.
I smile at her.
Hi mommy.
I still as a voice echoes into my head. The voice sounded like a little girls. What?
Was that Ellie?
Yes. It's me mommy. I love you.
I look down at her dumbfounded. I think everyone put two and two together because they all start to chuckle.
"What just happened?"
"Ellie can communicate with you through your mind. She can also read your thoughts. That was her telling you hi."
"She can read minds? She can talk to us through her thoughts?"
Yep. I hear as Ellie starts to giggle in delight.
"That's not all she can do," grumbles Emmett.
I look at him curiously. "What are you talking about?"
Alex sighs. "So. Ellie here can also project visions. More on the lines of nightmares."
I look at him dumbfounded. "What?"
"Ellie got upset about not seeing you that some of us saw scary visions. She showed me being mauled by a bear and dying over and over again," explains Emmett as he shudders. "She knows how to scare you."
I stare at her in wonder. She can not only project her thoughts. She can project images that turn into your worst nightmares. I was astonished but I loved her. I loved every little thing about her. "I love you too little one," I tell her.
She smiles at me. I hear movement before a new presence is right next to me. One that stinks and is letting off an enormous amount of heat.
"Sophie's doing great. Ok. Let's not push it." I see Paul reach out to take Ellie out of my arms when I move her closer to me and step away from the shapeshifter. I growl at him.
"What's your problem Paul?" I demanded.
"Back off Paul," growls Alex. "She's doing great."
"Well, you can never be too careful," Paul replies. He tries to take her away from me again and I hiss at him. I narrow my eyes and it's then that everything starts to make sense. I notice how his eyes would flicker from me to her.
Every time he looked at her, it was like a blind man was seeing the world for the first time.
My eyes widened in horror. Paul must realize that I just figured it out because he stills and stares at me.
"No. You didn't," I whisper.
Paul starts to fidget in place.
"Knew that she would be pissed," whispers Emmett.
"Now you know why I've contemplated ripping his head off," Alex says.
"I'll help you in getting rid of him. No one will every find his body," chimes in Irina while smiling.
"Sophie..." Paul starts to say. Oh hell no.
"Irina, take Ellie from me. Please." Irina immediately takes Ellie out of my arms. Alex places a hand on my shoulder.
"Alex. Please don't touch me right now. I don't want to hurt you." His hand quickly disappears and I stalk over to Paul.
I grab Paul by the shoulder and march out towards the backyard. I fling him off the back porch and watch him land roughly on the ground. I stalk down the steps. He gets up and raises his hands in defense.
"Seriously! On my baby!" I was beyond mad.
"Sophie. It wasn't my idea! You know that I don't have any control over it."
"You stupid mutt. I've barely even held her and you already have a wolfy claim on her." I push him away from me.
"You know it's not like that. I didn't intend to imprint on her!"
"Why," I hiss.
"Pay up," I hear Emmett say behind me. Of course he would be making bets.
"She hasn't gone for his throat yet. She's acting a lot like Bella," observes Carlisle.
"Amazing isn't she," Alex says excitingly.
"You need to stay away from her," I tell Paul.
"I can't do that Sophie. It would kill me to be away from her. I don't see her in any way but as a protector."
"But that will change one day!" I yell at him.
Paul's eyes widen. "Not necessarily." His voice is uncertain.
I was livid. I now understood why Bella was so angry when she found out that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee. I wanted to throw him at a tree. Better yet, I wanted to to throw a tree at him.
As soon as the thought crossed my mind, I heard a creaking sound. I felt the ground shift as a small tree jerked out of the ground. I could tell my family was shocked. I would be too if I wasn't so angry. I narrowed my eyes at Paul.
The tree floated above the ground a couple of feet away from me. Paul widened his eyes. He probably figured out what was about to happen.
"Oh shi..." The tree flew in Paul's direction and he dove to the ground. The roots missed him by mere inches.
I heard a growl and saw Leah coming out of the tree line. "Leah, back off," Paul says as he stand up on shaky legs.
Paul sighs and looks at me pleadingly. "Look. I'm sorry. I really am. I never wanted this to happen. It just did. Remember when you were human and I always came around to see you."
I nod my head. He annoyed me with how often he would show up.
"Ellie was a part of you. I felt like a protector towards you. You were like a little sister to me. It was Ellie that was making me feel that way. Do you feel what you felt about me now?"
I look at him and think. I felt nothing towards him. He annoyed me but I always calmed down when he was around me. That blanket of security was now gone.
"No. It's long gone," I manage to say.
"It was because of her." I glare at him but start to calm down. I was mad but it made me relieved that Ellie had another person to protect her. At least there was never anything romantic between us before. That would have pissed me off even more.
I huff in annoyance. "Fine. But be careful Lahote. I still don't like this. Nor do I accept it. One wrong move and it will be more than a tree coming your way." Paul stiffened and gulped.
"Yep. Sure thing," he says.
I wasn't happy about the situation but there wasn't much that I could do about it. I would just have to keep my eyes on the mutt.
I turn on my heels and march towards my family.
So really long chapter. What are your thoughts on Sophie's gift? I knew that I wanted her to be a shield from the beginning but I always wanted her to be different compared to Bella. I always knew that Ellie's children would be gifted. Once I decided that she would have children, I knew that I wanted them to have gifts as well. Especially since Sophie and Alex both have powerful powers. What do you think about the twins gifts? Please tell me your thoughts. Until next time!
