Sixteen is a milestone birthday for every teenager and with comes the anticipation of getting a driver's license and for Dean Winchester getting a license was a given. Between Bobby and John, Dean drove enough times to give an entire force of traffic cops mass heart attacks. Dean started young and he was an absolute natural behind the wheel. It was the only area where John didn't have much criticism for his eldest.

It was no surprise when John showed up the day of his son's birthday in order to get the omega street legal. The convenience of having another licensed driver around would make life easier for the family.

On the drive to the DMV Dean did his damnedest to maintain composure but it was tough to tamp down all that exuberance threatening to come bubbling out of him. Getting a license was going to be a game changer for the teenager. It was a step towards earning his dad's respect and a little freedom for himself.

Even at the dreary DMV Dean's presence was enough to make the place a little brighter. Even the sour looking guy behind the counter actually cracked a smile but Dean's target was the person who would decide if he'd pass the road test. The written was easy breezy but Dean wasn't sure if his omega status would be a drawback to the person scoring the test.

Dean was in luck, it was a woman under forty and she looked pleasant enough. He could tell by her expression the woman was impressed with both the Impala and the fact Dean rushed ahead to open the passenger door for her.

The road test seemed to go smoothly with Dean obeying every rule and his unparalleled parallel parking caused the lady to whisper, "oh my, excellent". Dean couldn't tell what she was checking off that list since he kept his eyes on the road.

When they got back the DMV they sat there in the freezing cold parking lot as she tallied his points while Dean held his breath.

"Congratulations Mister Winchester, you passed."

Dean did a fist pump and bellowed, "Yes!"

She raised an eyebrow, "No fist pumps when you're driving, young man."

"Sorry, I'm just super stoked. No fist pumps when I'm driving, promise."

"Fuck that, I am so going to so do fist pumps when I'm driving!"

John allowed Dean to drive the rest of the day which included a stop at a local mom and pop restaurant for lunch. Dean couldn't recall the last time he went out to eat with his dad and he couldn't think of a better birthday gift than getting his license and some alone time with his old man.

Dean ordered coffee black just like John and a patty melt with extra fried onions and fries. John filled Dean in on how he tracked Azazel and had gotten so close he could taste the sulfur but the demon still eluded him. The hunter white knuckled the big coffee mug in his hands while he talked. Dean worried his dad would break it because in the past John had broken a glass or two just by squeezing.

It was the wise thing to change the subject before a good meal was ruined by a bad temper. "Did Sam show you his library card yet?" Dean shook his head and softly chuckled, "Man, that kid sure is proud of that card."

"No he didn't show me. What does he need that for? We're moving on just as soon as school ends."

It bothered John that Sam didn't show him the library card. He wondered what other things his youngest kept from him. Demon blood aside, John knew how very different Sam was from Dean. The child came into this life with no Before Demon memories and though John wasn't an involved father he sure wasn't blind. Sam was the wild card and as soon as puberty hit he had no idea how the boy might change. The alpha hoped it wasn't going to be a two for two in the omega department.

He slid an envelope over to Dean and his son picked it up but he didn't open it. With John it could be something either awful or wonderful.

"Go on, open it."

Dean opened it and took out the yellow copy of a form, once he realized what it was his eyes welled with tears and the hand holding the paper began to tremble.

"Is this for real; you're putting me on Baby's title with you?"

"It's practical. If something happens to me I'll know who she's going to. Dean, even though you're a screw up sometimes and you've got this whole," John waved his hand, "thing going on…"

"Being omega?"

"Even with that I know you've got my back and you're loyal. You are loyal to me aren't you son?"

"Yes Dad." "Even though I'm an omega screw up…"

'Someday you might have to make some tough choices and I need to know you're going to make the right ones."

"I will, Sir." "It can't be worse than any of the other crap you've made me do…"

"That's what I want to hear. You're a good omega, Dean. Hang onto that copy, the new title will get sent to Bobby's place for safe keeping."

Knowing something so important would end up in his trusted uncle's hands was a huge relief for Dean. This also meant that Bobby would still be a part of their lives in some way.

Today nothing could bring the sixteen year old down. He could just picture himself hitting the open road and fighting the good fight with his brother at his side forever.

Sam drew up his knees and poked at his growling belly "Shut up, you…Dean will be back soon with something…" He turned his head on the pillow and took a look again to see if the Impala had suddenly and silently appeared but no such luck. It was the same old parking lot obliterated by the wet, heavy snow falling fast. The sun was already setting and all he could do was wish Dean back to him.

Sam was not only hungry but lonely. At least when Dean was with him they were survivors in one rowboat adrift at sea together. He hoped his brother got his license and that their dad would leave soon because life was just easier that way. Sam would have given up any good times they had with their dad in order to not have the tension the bulk of the time the three were together.

He took a chance and dialed Bobby's number collect and when the hunter picked up Sam felt safe again.

"Hi, Uncle Bobby. I finally got you!"

"Sam, give me your location right now before I lose you again." Bobby wrote it down and made note of the room number. "Kid, it's great to hear your voice."

"How are you, how is Rumsfeld?"

"We're both hangin' in there. Any day above ground is a good day in my book. What about you and Dean, are you staying safe and getting enough to eat?"

"Oh yeah, Dean makes sure of that stuff. Guess what."

"What."

"I've got a library card now. Its yellow and I put my signature on it and then the guy at the library laminated it for me. It's pretty great."

By the sound of Sam's voice Bobby could clearly picture him with a look of pride on his face and his dimples as deep as the Grand Canyon. "When you get back home I'll fix you up with a library card here. First it's a signature on your library card and next it'll be your driver's license. Speaking of driver's license, did your dad get around to taking Dean to get his?"

"Yeah, they went today but they aren't back yet and I'm worried because it's snowing out."

"I'm sure their fine, John is a good driver. Did you have supper yet?"

"Not yet but I but Dean will bring something back."

Bobby listened as Sam filled him in on what had been going on since the last time they spoke. He told Bobby there was a girl at school named Sara who kissed him on the cheek and that he was in a creative writing class and he was getting near perfect grades. Sam didn't come right out and say he wanted to come home because that would pit his dad and uncle against each other and he didn't want any fighting.

"Sam, are you and Dean really doing ok?"

"Yeah, we are." Sensing more questions might be coming, Sam ended the conversation, "I've got to do homework now. Love you Uncle Bobby."

"Love you too, son. Congratulate Dean for me because I know he aced the driver's test and wish him a happy birthday for me while you're at it. I uh, I got a gift I was gonna give you both last year before your dad came and got you. I guess it'll have to wait."

Dean waved the take out container under his sleeping brother's little nose, "Saaaaammy, wake up."

The smell of warm food and the sound of Dean's voice lured him from dreamland. Sam sat up, grabbed the container and wolfed down the big bean burrito inside.

He admonished Dean for being gone so long and not calling. Dean stuck his new license in Sam's face, "I passed." He next showed off the yellow slip from the title change, "Can you believe it; Dad put me on the title!"

Sam was happy his brother seemed so happy. He hugged Dean tight while nuzzling his ear affectionately, "I talked to Bobby and he said to congratulate you and say happy birthday."

Sam's breath kept tickling his ear and when he kissed Dean on the cheek the omega laughed, "Did Bobby tell you do that?"

"No, it's my idea."

Sam took the license from him and securitized the front and back then tapped the photo, "That's a good picture of you."

"Yeah, I don't get why people complain about ugly driver's license photos. I'm pretty happy with mine."

"That's cuz your beautiful like one of those omegas in the magazines Dad keeps in the trunk."

"What do you know about the magazines in the tunk?"

Sam stuck his chin in air and folded his arms, "I know enough." He sniffed his brother's shirt, "Why do you stink like cigarettes and beer?"

"Because we did a little pool sharking afterwards, a guy has to hustle to make it in world."

"I was the distraction so Dad could clean out those stupid college kids' wallets. We got a couple business men too and they were the worst, rubbin' my ass when I bent for a shot…one of them even stuck his hand between my legs! Imagine that, Sammy. It's ok though; I got a gold chain off the drunkest one and cleaned their wallets of cash myself. Fuck it; I kept the money for us. Don't tell Dad though or he'd kill me. You know how he feels about stealing."

Dean wished he could have said that out loud but the ugliness of the human world needed be kept as far away from Sam as possible.

When John finished his shower he came out fresh shaven and stark naked but the boys were used to it. When you're stuck on the road with two other people for years it was pretty normal. Dean went right in after his dad and showered off the stink of smoke and beer and the odor of men.

Once John was asleep the brothers snuggled closer. Sam sniffed his brother again, pleased to find the only smell he picked up was Dean and soap.

….

The next morning before John left he gave Dean fifty bucks for food and whatever else they needed. He said it was Dean's cut from last night but Dean knew he made a hell of a lot more than that. John didn't take into account things like bus fare or school fees for Sam's upcoming class trip, clothing and sundries. It wasn't even enough for a month's worth of food. He didn't want to dip into the meager amount of cash he lifted from the two perverted business men. That was for emergencies.

"Dad, I need more than this, it's just not enough."

"Maybe you should think about earning your own money to help out. You want to be a man and not an omega then act like one. Hustle like you mean it."

John lightly squeezed the back of Dean's neck, "watch out for your brother." He messed up Sam's hair then held his youngest by the face, "be good, Sam."

…..

The School Basement

Back in their dark and dirty make out lair, the two omegas nibbled and sucked on each other until their necks were littered in love bites and hickeys. This time Dean wrangled both their dicks out so he could jack them together and by the time the bell rang, both were sweating, slippery messes. It didn't matter really because Cody took his mom's car to school and promised to give Dean and Sam a ride back to the motel. The omega was a little nervous because he wanted Sam to like him. Maybe it was silly to be nervous over what a kid thought of him but Cody knew how much Sam meant to Dean.

Dean gently tucked his boyfriend's deflated dick back into his jeans and zipped him up while Cody sucked Dean's fingers clean, all the while moaning. Dean slapped his ass and pushed him back, teasing, "Knock it off or I'm gonna have to go another round." The way the omega's cheeks flamed up was pretty cute and a turn on for Dean. "Turn around." Cody did has he was told and Dean fastened something around his neck. He spun Cody around and patted the silver pendent on the gold chain. "It looks good."

Cody's eyes opened wide as he touched the jewelry around his neck, "Dean, is this a real gold chain?"

"Yeah it sure is."

The omega ran his finger over the raised symbols on the pendant, "What does this mean?"

"The pendent is silver because silver is good to have, trust me. It's a Viking vegvisir compass to ward off evil. Hey, your family is mostly Swedish so it seemed like a good choice."

By now Cody was aware of Dean's situation, or at least some of it, "Dean, it's too expensive, spend it on things you need, not me. I don't want you for what stuff you can give me, I just want you."

"You deserve nice things; don't worry about the chain because I found it. I earned that money for the pendant so don't insult me and act like I'm right out of Oliver Twist. Yeah, that's right, Oliver Twist because I read." Dean lowered his eyes, "I read it Sam when he was little."

Cody watched as those gorgeous green eyes slowly closed and a slight smile played across Dean's lips if he was reliving a memory. "Someone left it at the…the Blue Swallow Motel, I remember the name because it was so weird and funny. Sammy was six and he seemed to like it or maybe it was just the sound of my voice he liked. I could kinda relate to the kid in that book." Dean's eyes snapped open, blinking rapidly before they focused back on Cody.

Cody threw his arms around Dean and peppered his face with kisses ending with a tender one on his generous lips, "I love it, I really love it Dean." "And I love you."

Sam leaned on the back of the front seat while the two teenagers carried on a conversation with what sounded like code words punctuated by giggles. Dean's hand rested on Cody's thigh and every time he gave it a squeeze the omega's hips shifted. It was like watching two animals at the zoo but more interesting.

"What smells so weird up here? It smells like candy and dirty socks."
