The time they spent at the cabin was everything both hoped it would be.
Sam enjoyed exploring the land with his brother and they looked for safe spots, marked natural trails and checked available water sources. He also helped Dean with little projects around the cabin. His brother wanted this nest to be long term livable and Sam was completely on board with it.
Dean made a long list of repairs and supplies needed. They didn't have the expertise in things like plumbing and wiring and they had no money but when Sam and Dean put their minds to something, anything was possible. This was Bobby's place and they hadn't forgotten that. Dean felt he'd be ok with their plan, maybe even pleased his boys took an interest in restoring the place since it had meaning to their uncle.
The boys went fishing, swimming and cooked out during those long summer sunsets but making out and having sex under the stars trumped everything. When the mosquitos or rain drove them inside where alpha and omega made love on the bed that had become theirs.
On that last night the young lovers fucked on and off for hours as if they'd never do this again. There were no real claiming bites, the kind that leaves a shiny pink scar as a reminder of who owns you. This also wasn't something you discussed beforehand but a spontaneous act in the heat of passion between two soulmates. For Sam, he was unsure of himself and the where and when this should happen so he did test bites that left bruises but didn't leave a mark. Dean treated it as he did everything else with the former virgin, he didn't push or demand and felt in time this would happen between them. He would have loved to bite down on his baby alpha's broad shoulder and break the skin but as a good big brother, he could wait.
….
"Birds, a warm breeze, damp skin, redolent scents of sex…that word a day calendar is paying off…redolent…Sammy's funk…I fucking love you…"
Sam was big spoon last night and he had his long arms wrapped loosely around the omega's waist. Dean took a hand and kissed the palm and sniffed the fingers, "pussy…" he smiled as bits of last night came back to him. He didn't want to move because that meant getting up and leaving today.
"Gotta go back…" He dreaded it, getting home and seeing their dad's truck in driveway and facing Bobby and everything that happened. Dealing with it, grieving again over the loss of a parent. He still hadn't fully wrapped his mind around Mary's death, it was all so abstract to a four year old. At the time he didn't understand why and how but only that he missed her and wanted her back. He delt with it on his own back then since Sam was a baby and Dad became driven and distant.
"At least this time I have Sammy to share it with…or not, no point in dragging him into my fucked up way of dealing with this…"
….
Sam and Dean didn't tell Bobby a thing, each for their own reasons and those they agreed on together. Bobby didn't ask either, he didn't really know what they'd done but he had a feeling and feeling and actually knowing were two very different things. He noticed the way they touched each other more on the hand, shoulder or the time Dean slipped his arm around his brother's waist. Bobby wished Jamie would have been there to help him understand the whole thing but the omega had vanished.
Every heat cycle, Dean would vanish until it was all over because being anywhere near Sam felt like torture. It was different this time though, Dean didn't seek out strangers with a pocket full of condoms to ease his needs, he took care of it himself though it was a poor substitute for the real thing. Sam had spoiled Dean for anyone else and that was just fine with him.
Dean signed up for GED courses that winter to get his diploma and fulfill a promise to Sam, Bobby and himself. He did odd jobs for cash and then there was the hunting, either alone or with Bobby.
Sam missed his brother during the times Dean was absent for more reasons than ever. The alpha was fully immersed in high school and killing it with his grades. Socially, school was tough for him; pretty girls and omegas still caught his eye and this made him wonder what if. Then he'd see Dean's beautiful face, smiling and shining like sun and all those other feelings vanished.
They were very careful around Bobby and what they did in his house. They were not longer a couple of kids making out and playing grab ass though there was plenty of that. Intercourse was smelly, noisy and knotting even briefly was dangerous when you were trying to hide what you were doing. The winter was long and backseat trysts or Dean bent over the hood of some vehicle in the salvage yard wasn't happening.
This only made them want each other more.
…
May 3rd, 1999
Dean's eyes followed the lady with the clipboard of doom in her hand, as she walked over to the Impala with the nervous teen in the driver's seat, chewing on his nail.
"You got this Sam."
He looked up at his brother, brows knit with worry, "Ok, thanks Dean."
Dean watched as the two drove away and then waited inside the building at the window like a nervous mother. When Baby pulled up to the building sometime later, Sam hopped out, ran to the passenger door and held it open for the woman. They stood there a minute chatting and then Sam bounded to the door of the building and held that open as well. The big dimpled smile on his face told Dean everything he needed to know.
He proudly stood by as Sam got his photo taken and went through the process. Sam was beaming as he walked over, holding up his new license.
"I did it!"
"You did it, babe." They hugged the hell out of each other right there at the DMV.
Sam, feeling very grown up now, asked his brother out on a proper date. "Dean, I've been saving up from my tutoring jobs and I want to ask you out on the real date."
"Like a date date?"
"Yes, a date date."
"Sure, what do you wanna do?"
"Skip the rest of the school day and take you out for lunch and maybe a movie or something. Also, I want to celebrate you getting your GED."
A little shy about the whole GED thing, Dean looked away but Sam could see a smile play over those luscious lips of his, "It's no big deal, besides, Bobby's planning something, I think. He's been acting cagey."
"It is a big deal. I'm so proud of you and all the work you've done. You deserve celebrations and recognition."
….
Sam held the door open for his brother as they entered a café that looked above their paygrade. He also pulled out Dean's chair and the omega allowed it though this wasn't something he was used to.
Sam was testing out his gentleman skills on his boyfriend, something he wanted to try for a long time. This was a first for Dean, the first time a guy treated him this nicely on a date and it made him feel special. Worried about how much tutoring money Sam actually had, Dean ordered the special and water to drink. Sam shook his head and insisted Dean order the chocolate malt, a favorite of his.
They played footsy under the table and Dean made a show of curling his tongue around the straw and sliding it slowly down the length then sucking the malt out the tip. Sam, emboldened by his new status as a licensed driver and feeling all alpha, licked the cheese on his patty melt as he gave his lover a wink that went on a few seconds too long. It was one upmanship from there, Dean moved his straw between his circled fingers among other things. There was a lot of lighthearted laughing as they thoroughly enjoying each other's antics.
"Ahem."
They looked up to find the waitress standing there.
"The people at the next table want you two to stop doing naughty things with your food. Me, I don't mind, whatever floats your boat but they are getting pretty cranky."
Dean grinned up at her, "Can you wrap the rest of this food up, we're ready for dessert. I'll have the banana cream pie with plenty of whipped cream." He tapped his foot against Sam's, "Sam?"
"I want cherry pie with vanilla ice cream."
"Ok, Romeo and Juliette." She heard them snickering as she walked away. At least they made her day a little more interesting.
…..
This had to be one of the best days ever for Sam, he got his license, went out on a date and now his brother was bent over the trunk of the car with pants around his ankles, displaying himself and waiting Sam. No one else could touch it, see it, taste it or enter. Sam loved the way Dean growled impatiently and wiggled his hips and when the alpha entered how that growling turned to moans and whispered demands but the best was when Dean repeated "I love you" over and over right before he orgasmed.
The rest of the time was spent under an oak by a duck pond where they shared what was important in their lives and bounced ideas off each other.
Dean caught his brother up on the work being done at the cabin since Sam only went on the odd weekend he wasn't tutoring. Jamie had come back into their lives and both he and Bobby were skilled builders and things were moving forward nicely. At Dean's request, Cal even sent a couple of professionals over to work on the plumbing and wiring.
"I'm glad it's getting upgrades, I was worried about the old electrical wires and rusty water."
Dean nodded, "Yeah, I thought about that stuff too. We're keeping that beast of a wood cook stove though and just redoing the venting. No matter what, we'll have a way to make food. With the fire place to keep warm and the new handpump in the sink, the place will be pretty self-sufficient. If the world goes to hell, we'll have a safe place to go."
With unadulterated excitement in his voice, Sam brought up the solar energy, "I'm glad we're doing off grid solar power. I want to work on that for sure! I still don't know how we'll ever afford it or even the generator though."
"Cal, he's going to help us."
Sam was uneasy having this man funneling money into the project. He'd only met Cal once and wasn't sure about him. "Dean, why is he helping? I don't get it. You always said everyone has an angle, well what's his?"
"He's my teacher, remember? Cal said he'd be there for me if I needed help and we need help."
"But the money, where is it coming from?"
"The workers are part of the omega alliance and they donate their time. Now when they need help, I'll donate my time as payback and someday you can donate yours. Cal gets donations of materials for these kinds of things. I don't ask who, why or how…it is what it is."
Sam laid his head on his brother's shoulder and closed his eyes, "Alright, but sometime I want to go there and seen this place of his and learn more about it."
"For sure, as soon as school lets out."
"Dean, I might be able to graduate early and I'm on track for scholarships."
"Yeah, if the world doesn't go to hell."
"Sometimes I think you'd like that."
"That's a lousy thing to say to me, Sam. After all the crap that's happened to our family because of this supernatural bullshit, you think I'd like that?"
"You're taking it the wrong way; I didn't mean it like that."
Dean shrugged him off and got up, "We better get home. I bet Bobby's itching to find out about your driver test."
….
Months earlier…
Whispers of "he's coming" went around boardroom and one by one they stood out of respect and fear of the man who owned almost every waking moment of their miserable lives. When he entered each one bowed their heads until he was seated, not wanting to risk making eye contact too soon. Eye contact meant the possibility of getting singled out and no one wanted that.
He raised brow, a smirk on his face as his eyes swept over these people, he entrusted Ro Corp to. They sat down only after he took his place at the head of the long table.
Becker, the second in command, cued up the video the company received remotely right before the explosion. He pointed to someone on the video, "We surmise it was this man who started it all. He was a special infected who stayed fairly normal through out his stay. The two boys, the older man and the shooter we have yet to identify. The woman is a scientist who was working on the project, a civilian. This man is a guard, one of ours. We think they were aided by two of the hunters we used to collect test subjects. One of them is dead for sure, the other one is still out there." Becker couldn't help himself, he glanced down at the long healed bite mark on his bosses hand then averted his eyes.
"What's the matter, Becker? Take a good long look."
"Sorry, Sir. I didn't mean to stare."
