"A nice helping of snow…"
From atop of the piste he stood upon, boots sinking into the blanket of white underneath him, he looked out at what the sunlight casted its brightness upon. All that he could in front of him, as well as everything that was far out in the horizon, was carpeted by snow. The trees further out in the distance, once displaying their needles of green, were concealed in white. There wasn't anything in sight that didn't have its fair share of snow on top of it.
"Clear skies ahead…"
The vast expanse above was the softest shade of blue, with a few wispy clouds that complimented the pleasant view. Flakes of falling snow continued to delicately blow around him from this height, capering in the skies before softly touching the ground.
"Not a single sound stirring around here…"
The stillness was a phenomenal sensation to experience from this height, even if it was something that was rather strange to him. Having came here from somewhere that had a bunch of commotion regardless of what hour it was, the noiselessness seemed peculiar at first. Staring out into the open, however, it gave both a sense of peace and a feeling that anything was possible.
A hasty yet powerful gust of wind blew in just then, his pointed ears on the top of his head blowing back as its frostiness hit him. The quick-tempered flurry that could only happen in a place like this, where nature could shift in the blink of an eye, killed the mood temporarily.
"A little bit of unpredictable wind, but that's quite okay. Still a perfect day…"
He took a few steps forward, the sounds of snow crushing underfoot clashing against the wind around him.
"With nothing but awesomeness in my way, I'm ready to-"
"Fox, what are you talking about?" a certain someone interrupted from behind.
Bundled in a gray coat much like what he normally wore, Fox McCloud turned himself around and looked back at his friend. "I'm just getting myself ready to do this thing, Falco," he replied, slightly annoyed by the interruption. "Something I'm sure all the professionals do before they get ready to ride their board and taste the sweet wind."
Falco shook his head. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm just getting myself pumped up," Fox remarked in response. He walked over to the the pair of skis laying not too far away from him, connecting his boots into them firmly as he picked up the poles to his side. "I dunno 'bout you, but this park rat's ready to start stompin' this gnarly pow."
Falco only had a minuscule idea as to what the vulpine just said, assuming he was just using the lingo skiers or snowboarders did. Knowing that this wasn't Fox's true personality, hearing slang come out of his mouth was a bit strange. "But you don't know anything riding one of those things," he insisted.
Fox shrugged and replied, "I've piloted the Arwing many times. I don't see how this can be any harder than that. Besides, Falco, I've watched people do this kind of thing before. I'll just try to mimic what they did and it'll be okay. And if it's me taking a bad fall or something that you're worried about, you don't need to be. I've got somebody that's gonna keep me in the air safely at all times."
Stepping up from behind the two was Mewtwo, nodding its head at Fox as he glared over at him for a moment.
"I still think it's a better idea to just head back down and maybe get some hot chocolate or something," Falco suggested. "You know, like everybody else is doing right now."
In an attempt to get away from the mansion they all resided in for a short while, the Smashers all decided to take the trip to a fantastic resort nestled against the best mountains they had ever seen. While most during the season of winter wanted to get away from the cold weather, they unanimously thought it would be nice to see snow and enjoy that kind of scenery.
Just as Falco said to him, a majority of everybody that came here was enjoying their retreat to a wintery landscape in a more peaceful manner. He, however, felt the drive to do something he had never done before in his life upon entering a building that sold some pretty sweet skiing equipment.
"There's plenty more hours in the day for doing that stuff," Fox countered. Turning around to look back over at Mewtwo, he inquired, "You remember what I told you?"
The Pokemon answered him with another silent nod of its head, its girthy tail swishing from one side to the other.
McCloud turned back around straightening up his posture and getting himself into the position to ski. "Later, dude," he said to Falco.
Within a few seconds, Fox pushed off and started to descend the marked run down the mountain. Though he didn't start off going very fast, his speed picked up about halfway down the slope.
Meanwhile, knowing it was time for his input without any signal, Mewtwo raised a hand and held it out in front of him. Falco watched from where he stood as Fox suddenly shot up into the air like a missile.
While he was flitting through the air as if he were weightless, thanks to the assistance he was getting from the Pokemon and his power, the blue bird watched from where he stood as his friend traveled further out into the snowy distance.
"Oh boy…" he muttered to himself, shaking his head.
He had a hunch in the back of his mind that this wasn't going to go as ideally as McCloud thought it would.
The sensation of just skyrocketing up into the air without gravity keeping him down took him by surprise a bit. The feeling, however, had him on cloud nine as soon as he felt that wind blow against his face. He never would have guessed that a little help from a Pokemon that possessed telekinesis could make something like his first time on skis that much more excting.
Falco don't know what he's missing out on, he thought. Guess he just doesn't know how to have a little fun every now and then.
Taking advantage of the fact he wasn't acted on by gravity now, Fox felt that it was the perfect time to have a little fun while he floating through the air. He started to break out into spins all of a sudden, so swift that everything was a blur of white with each whirl in a circle.
There was no way anyone would have been able to do as many in a row as he was doing, not even if there had been a big jump on the end of the piste. This was all thanks to Mewtwo's assistance from atop of the run where he had started.
McCloud reached for the tail of his right ski and crossed both of them, trying to do so with as much style as possible even though literally no one was watching him. From there, he did another maneuver he had seen once, kicking one leg forward and the other backward.
He held that pose a moment before he tried to incorporate a flip into this ski run of his, still soaring at the same point in the air. Midway through it, however, he felt himself dropping to a lower height in the air just then.
As soon as his eyes glanced back out at what was in front of him, Fox saw an incoming tree a little too late. He looked outward with panic but could not stop to avoid colliding with it. "Oh he-"
Whack!
Dr. Mario walked from one side of the office to the other, sitting down on the chair not too far away from where Fox was seated. He took the notepad resting upon the desk and started to scribble a few notes onto it before facing his patient once again. "And how did it a-happen again?"
"Well, Doc, I ended up having a sick wipeout in the middle of a pretty steezy flip," Fox replied, still using some of the skiing jargon.
"Mewtwo was the one keeping up in the air the whole time," Falco chimed in, giving it to the doctor straight.
Dr. Mario nodded understandingly, returning to his paper to jot down more chicken scratch handwriting onto his notes. "I see," he said. "An injury involving a tree, sustained while being a-moved by telekinesis. Good to note so we know what a-code to put in when we send the bill."
"You mean there's one for something as random as this?" Falco wondered.
With a sigh, Mario answered, "After being in this a-field long enough, you realize there's a medical code for everything." He finished writing what he needed to, folding his hands before returning his attention towards Fox. "My advice to you, McCloud, is to relax and let yourself heal after that. Enjoy this a-retreat from the mansion as much as you can, doing something a little less intense and maybe even enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or something. You know, like everybody else is a-doing here right now."
"Deja vu," Falco muttered to the vulpine as he looked over at him.
Author's Note: Hey there, readers! Pretty sure Fox McCloud trying out skiing was the last thing you were expecting to read today. XD
Anyway, hope you all enjoyed this little story of mine. I felt like writing something involving the snow since the winter season will be starting in a couple days, and this was what I came up with after doing some brainstorming. I've got a couple more wintery stories that I'll share in the future, as well as a couple Christmas ones that I hope to get done before the holiday.
As always, your feedback, whether good or bad, is gladly appreciated. And thank you to everyone that's been giving this stories of mine a read.
'Til next time! :)
