I apologize in advance. In this chapter, Lillie the girl and Lily the Pokémon are finally in the same place. Their names are spelled differently, but it still might be rather confusing…

Chapter 20: Remember Me

Anabel stepped in front of us and gazed up at the front of the hospital.

"I have everything arranged," Looker assured her. "They've agreed to lend us a room where we won't be disturbed." Looker seemed like he desperately wanted to know how my Pokémon could return lost memories and heal extreme poisoning. But he stayed silent, understanding that it wasn't something I wanted to discuss.

"I'll help," Hari offered.

"He's a great doctor," Ben said. "He went out with my Tauros last night to gather some herbs for Lusamine."

"Really?" I exclaimed. I'd passed out the moment I lay down. Not that I'd done any of the fighting myself – I had my Pokémon to thank for that. But I was pretty well drained emotionally. "I didn't know. Thanks for planning ahead, Hari."

Looker turned to Anabel. "How are you feeling, Chief?"

She closed her eyes. "It's exciting. And yet I am afraid as well. I still can't shake the feeling that I'll feel like a different person."

"It will be different," I said. "You'll be whole again."

She smiled. "You're right. Good or bad, those memories are a part of me. I am ready."

"I'll call my Pokémon."

The others headed inside without me. I closed my eyes and reached out with telepathy. Lily confirmed that they would be arriving shortly.

Julio had come with us, though he'd kept his distance up until now. I suspected that he didn't want Looker or Anabel taking notice of him. Usually gang members and Interpol don't get along too well.

Thanks again for your help, Julio." I glanced away. "And I'm sorry. For shouting you and… and having my Pokémon attack you and everything."

"Heh. Honestly Team Skull is used to that kind of treatment."

I shot him an alarmed look.

He held up his hands. "Hey, I'm done breaking the law, I swear. But I've heard that even big bro-I mean Guzma is trying something different. Different is good," he hastily assured me. "But either way, I don't think I should stick around with them anymore. Considering I pretty well betrayed Team Skull. Which means I don't know where to go."

"What about Gladion? He's working to reorganize the Aether foundation. I'm sure they could use your help."

He nodded. "I was thinking about that. But… I mean I did help kidnap Gladion's sister. Even though I didn't know that's what we were doing."

"Then you helped get her back. Gladion knows that. And Lillie isn't the kind of person to hold a grudge. I'm going to see her now, so we can fix their mother. Come and help."

As Julio opened his mouth to respond, several Pokémon appeared in the air beside us. Julio whirled around, reaching for a Pokéball. But he stopped when he recognized some of the Pokémon he'd seen with me yesterday. There was Edward the Zoroark, keeping up another illusion. Mewtwo was in his Alakazam disguise. The second Alakazam was Lily. But I didn't expect to see an Abra with them. He dove at me, and I caught him, laughing.

"Twilight! I didn't know you'd be coming!"

He grinned. I could tell he wanted to talk. But that would ruin his Abra disguise, so he kept silent.

"And we're ready!" I exclaimed. "Let's go!" I waved to Julio, and he fell into step beside me. I carried Twilight. Mewtwo Lily, and Edward came in behind. The receptionist gave us a weird look as we walked through the lobby, but Looker had already cleared us to bring in some Pokémon. Man, it was great knowing someone from Interpol.

We took the elevator and found Lillie (the human one) waiting for us when we arrived at the floor. She was no longer in her dress, but had a more casual, modern outfit on. It occurred to me that the dress must have been one from her mom. And now she felt strong and independent enough to try her own fashion.

"Cara!" Lillie exclaimed, though in a quiet voice. "We saw you on the news! That was amazing. How is everyone?"

"Tired, but fine," I said. "I don't think you guys were properly introduced." I stepped aside and gestured, "this is Julio. Julio, this is Lillie."

He took an awkward step forward, hesitated, then reached out to shake her hand.

She smiled as she shook it. "You helped Gladion and Cara at Aether Paradise. Thank you."

"He also helped us with the Ultra Beasts," I said. I gave Julio a meaningful look.

He took the hint. "Yeah, I was hoping I could help you guys fix up Aether."

"That would be great. Thank you."

Julio looked surprised that it had been so easy.

A thought struck me. "By the way, here are my Pokémon friends. Lily, this is Lillie."

The girl looked at the fake Alakazam in surprise. "Oh! I think Cara mentioned a Lily Pokémon. It's good to meet you!"

Lily smiled and inclined her head.

"And this is Twilight." I hoisted the fake Abra in my arms. I turned to Mewtwo. "And this is… Alakazam." That seemed easier than making up a fake name."

"Thank you for coming to help my mother," Lillie said, bowing.

"Lily will be helping with Lusamine. And Alakazam will be working with Anabel. He's the one who restored my memories when I lost them in another world."

"I mean," Julio said, "If you want to restore memories all you need to do is sing "Remember Me."

I snorted and covered my mouth, because we were in a hospital after all. Ben and Hari liked the movie Coco. They also knew that I was a little too crazy about that movie. But I loved that Julio knew Coco well enough to make these kinds of references.

Our group headed inside. Ben, Hari and Looker were waiting for us. Lusamine was unconscious on one of the beds. Anabel sat on the second bed, waiting.

Lily glided over to Lusamine and held her hands above the cold, clammy skin. Her psychic powers began scanning to determine the extent of the poisoning. Lillie sat beside her mother, watching and waiting.

"Gladion wanted to come," Lillie said, her voice quiet so she wouldn't distract the healer. "But he couldn't leave Aether paradise. Things are too unstable right now. He has to keep things under control so the wrong side doesn't take over again. I told him I'd take care of Mother and come help him after."

"I'll back you up," Julio promised.

I gave a wry smile. "I can be hired muscle if you need it."

Lillie covered a laugh. "Thanks. Gladion might be intimidating enough on his own."

I couldn't argue with that. His Silvally was amazing. Twilight stepped onto the bed beside Lusamine, wanting to learn how to heal poisoning.

I headed over to Anabel. She was watching Lusamine's treatment. "I've never heard of someone trying to fuse with an Ultra Beast. I wish I could offer more information on how to help her recover."

"If anyone can fix it, it's Lily," I assured her. "Now it's your turn." I gestured to Mewtwo. "Alakazam here is going to start with a scan. Try to keep your mind as calm and relaxed as you can."

Anabel nodded and lay back on the bed. Mewtwo began his task. When he'd done this for me, it had taken him weeks to find all of my lost memories. And he had help in the search. I backed away to join Ben, Hari and Looker. All we could do was wait.

I sat down with Edward, and Twilight floated over to join me. He spoke in a telepathy that only I could hear. "Can you tell me about yesterday?"

I responded in telepathy, not wanting to talk and distract Lily or Mewtwo. "There's a lot to tell. You may as well just watch it." He nodded and stood on my knees, touching his forehead to mine. It was always strange when one of the Mewtwos watched my memories. The images ran through my head like a film reel. It was clear and coherent to Twilight, but more like a grainy blur to me.

When the images came to an end, Twilight pulled away. "That thing was scary."

Guzzlord. "Yeah, it was. But it's gone home now. Besides I had your dad with me."

"Yep!"

Mewtwo straightened and sighed. We all jumped to our feet. I caught Twilight before I sent him flying, but I accidentally knocked Edward over. "Sorry!" I gasped, tugging him to his feet. "Sorry, sorry." He huffed at me.

Anabel sat up, waiting to hear the report.

Like Twilight, Mewtwo used telepathy to speak only to me. "It's actually a lot better than I expected. I wasn't sure what I would do if it was like your memories, Cara. I think that you were an unusual case. When you fell between worlds, it was to a world that was getting damaged. It scattered your memories when you fell. It seems common that those who fall between worlds lose memories. But I'm wondering if they usually get buried. Like the mind is trying to cope with a different world."

"You're saying Anabel still has all her memories?" I blurted. "They're just hidden from her?"

The others all perked up at this news.

Mewtwo nodded.

I gasped in relief. "Thank Arceus." I wasn't sure if I could ask him to help Anabel the way he'd helped me. Retrieving memories scattered across multiple worlds was a Herculean undertaking.

"It may take a while," Mewtwo continued. "I know you well, and it was easy to put you back together. I'll have to go by feel with this one." He gestured to Anabel.

I decided not to translate that part. Anabel lay back down, and Mewtwo began the long process of assembling lost memories.

The rest of gathered together. I went to sit with Edward again. He pretended to bare his fangs at me. I gave a sheepish grin. "I won't do it again. But you're so fluffy, how can I resist snuggling with you?"

He rolled his eyes and allowed me to join him. Speaking in low voices, everyone started to exchange their tales of what had happened yesterday. It was only after we had all finished and started with different topics that Lily straightened up and stretched. We all jumped to attention once more (without toppling Edward over).

"It's done," Lillie gasped. She dashed to her mother's bedside. But Lusamine didn't move.

"I think Lusamine will be sleeping for a while as her body recovers," I explained.

"Oh, of course." Lillie looked a bit deflated.

"I think she'll wake tomorrow morning, She'll be weak for a while, but there shouldn't be any lasting effects." Lily explained.

"Thank you for healing my mother." She took Lily's hand, looking confused to find that it didn't feel like it was supposed to. Edward's illusion couldn't change what Lily's hand felt like, only what it looked like. He gave me a sheepish grin and I covered a laugh.

Lillie reached into her pocket and pulled out a photo. She held it out, showing me. "Our family. Before… well, before." She and Gladion looked quite a bit younger. Lusamine stood beside them, looking the same, but with a relaxed happiness I'd never seen on her. And that man must be their dad. The dad who had disappeared.

Across the room, Mewtwo stretched. He was getting stiff and needed a break from delicate, tedious work. He came over to join us and glanced at the photo. "I've seen that man."

"You've seen him?" I almost shouted, but caught myself in time.

"Wait, you've seen him?" Lillie echoed, gaping at Mewtwo.

He nodded. "When we were fighting the Ultra Beasts-Pheromosa- he was the man who brought healing items. The other humans – the ones who knew you – were talking about him. They said he ran a sort of resort for Pokémon. Like Poképark. Or stadium mini games."

I'd forgotten about him. So much else was going on that I'd barely even looked at him.

"Where is he?" Lillie gasped, grabbing Mewtwo's arm.

Mewtwo looked startled at the touch and shot me a confused look.

"I think Ilima and Hala knew him," I said. "They're the captain and Kahuna of Melemele Island. I'll call them and see if they can track him down."

"But why has he stayed away?" Lillie whispered, looking hurt. She released Mewtwo's arm, to his relief.

"You know," Mewtwo said, looking thoughtful. "Cara, Anabel and I are Fallers. I think those Ultra Beasts were drawn to that man too. What if he's also a Faller and lost his memories?"

I blurted this out to Lillie, whose face brightened with hope. "Then we could return them!"

"We'll track him down after we fix Anabel," I promised. "And there's Nebby too."

Looker had walked over to see what we were talking about. "I can help find this man. That will give you some time to help the little Pokémon you told us about. Nebby."

"Thank you. Mr. Looker!" Lillie exclaimed. But she clapped a hand over her mouth, afraid she'd wake her mother.

"I'll go with him," Julio offered. "My Pokémon can help search."

I looked at Mewtwo, feeling a bit guilty. Using telepathy I said, "Is it okay to ask you to restore one more person's memory? I'll think of some awesome reward for you afterward."

He smirked. "I'll pick out something appropriately tedious for you."

"I mean, I'd deserve it. Do you need anything before you finish working with Anabel?" I handed him a bottle of jasmine tea, which he drank. Then he returned to continue working with Anabel's memories.

"I have to call Gladion," Lillie whispered. "But I don't have a phone."

Looker handed her his phone. She thanked him and moved to a corner to tell her brother about the good news. When she finished, our group gathered together once more. Lillie reached into her bag and pulled out Nebby.

I held out my hands and Lillie put the strange little gem into them. I could feel an inner warmth, but there was no other sign of life. "Hang on, Nebby. We'll get you fixed up."

Twilight floated up to touch Nebby too. Ben and Hari hadn't yet seen Nebby in this strange shape, and they stared in solemn fascination.

"You say this Pokémon started off looking like a cloud?" Looker asked, intrigued.

Julio nodded and pointed to Lusamine. "She used the Pokémon to open the wormholes, and it came back out looking like this. It doesn't look like much, but it had enough power to unleash Ultra Beasts all over Alola."

Lillie nodded. "But where do we go to help her?" She tucked Nebby back into her bag. "I've been to visit the Tapu's shrines – all except the one on Poni Island. Nebby seemed to want to go there, but I didn't learn anything."

Hari gestured to Mewtwo. "I think he will be working on that lady for a while longer. While he's doing that, maybe you should try talking directly to a Tapu."
