It's a sad day in Gotham City, and there was a lonely gathering from a single. It was Bruce Wayne and Grace Lamont standing over a grave that they knew very well who was buried there.
Harvey Dent
Great DA
Better friend
Two weeks ago, crime lord Rupert Thorne kidnapped Grace in an attempt to lure Two-Face into a trap, hoping that he still had feelings for her back when he was Harvey. Despite having a gang of his own, he was no match for Thorne until Batman came to his rescue. They agreed to team up in order to rescue Grace, and they successfully did. At least she still loved him, in spite of him becoming a criminal obsessed with duality. Just as they were about to kiss, Two-Face got shot in the back by Thorne two times before Batman took him down. The wounds were fatal that he can't be saved, much to Batman and Grace's distress. In his time of death, the former had decided to reveal his true identity to him as his friend, Bruce Wayne. Harvey had no hard feelings on this secret being kept to him, just happy to see that his friend was there for him and that he never gave up on him despite on what he had become. As a result, he died with a smile on his face, happy that his pain of having dissociative identity disorder finally came to an end. For the sake of the friendship between two men, Grace agreed to keep Bruce's secret safe.
"It's just sad, Bruce. The moment he became the criminal known as Two-Face, the public had lost their respect for him. When he died, not a lot of people came to see him. Even if they were happy, it was only because a villain died, not knowing a tragic person beneath that persona," Grace lamented with tears on her eyes.
"At least we got to say our goodbyes to him before he died. He never told me about his condition, not wanting me to worry over it. For a lot of times, I fought him as Batman, but he was happy that an old friend like me never gave up on him. At least he's in peace now," Bruce lamented as well, trying to hold his tears back.
"Yeah, even if nobody else saw the good within him."
"Not only the one, Grace," a familiar voice called out to her.
They turn to look at the source, and it was Barbara Gordon. She was with her father Commissioner Jim Gordon, who carried a bouquet of flowers with a sad look on his face. Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, and Alfred Pennyworth were present in the occasion to mourn the loss of the former District Attorney.
"He was good friend before he lost himself to his dark side," the Commissioner admitted while putting the bouquet to the grave. "I was glad to know him."
"He was one of the best men in Gotham, and one of the best heroes they ever got," Barbara said solemnly.
"He was a man who suffered long, and now he can be happy with his pain finally over," Dick said with the same expression.
"Mr. Dent was a good man who fought for what was right," Alfred said his part.
"Although I didn't know him much, I was glad to know there was a hero in him before he became Two-Face," Tim admitted his part as well.
After paying their respects, they all left in separate ways. Bruce stayed behind as he puts a hand on his friend's grave, unable to hold his tears anymore.
"Rest well, my friend," he said with emotion before joining Alfred and the others in going back home. As far as he knew, Harvey had finally found peace.
Author's Note: You heard the recent tragic news, right? Richard Moll, the actor who voiced Harvey Dent/Two-Face, has passed away. This short story is my tribute to him. May he rest in peace.
