ANGELA
What was Tony doing and what was he doing here?! Angela couldn't believe it when she spotted him hiding behind the dessert cart and then a few minutes later talking to their waiter. What happened to him making dinner for Kathleen? Was she here too? She craned her neck and noticed the back of Kathleen sitting about ten feet away. Wait a minute! Why did Tony bring Kathleen to the same restaurant Christopher and her were dining at? Then it hit her. They were here so he could spy on her. At first the thought angered her. How dare he meddle in her date when he was the one who told her that he didn't know if it was over with Kathleen the night she found out they had slept together. And then just earlier this evening when he asked her if she was moving a little fast with Christopher when she told him that he had invited her to go to Athens with him. Okay so maybe she was moving a little fast but Tony didn't have any room to talk as far as she was concerned. If Tony could move fast with Kathleen then so could she with Christopher. After all, as she had said: "I've never done anything like this in my life before. Maybe it's time."
And maybe it was time. Maybe it was time she had a little fun and going to Athens with Christopher would certainly accomplish that. After all if Tony hadn't made the choice to sleep with Kathleen and decide to date her they wouldn't be in this predicament. She never would have met Christopher and they wouldn't be broadening their horizons and exploring their options. So she might as well enjoy herself while Tony was involved with another woman.
All of a sudden the fact that Tony was here on a date with Kathleen filled her with glee and a sense of satisfaction. Did it mean he was regretting everything? Was he finished broadening his horizons? Why else would he bring Kathleen here? Ever since she had started dating Christopher he had been on edge. He hadn't been that way with Peter. But for some reason with Christopher he seemed a little obsessed about it. How else would you explain the fact that he had bought Kathleen here?
Wait a minute! Did Kathleen know why they were here? Did Tony tell her? No, he couldn't have. She certainly couldn't see Kathleen going along with it. And besides what woman would want to go out to eat with the man she was dating just so he could spy on another woman? Oh Tony you have really done it this time! Angela sighed and shook her head.
But, and she hated herself for feeling this way. She loved the fact that he was here. She loved that he was so jealous that he followed her on her date. So was he tired of their new arrangement?
A few minutes later the man at the next table returned from the restroom and sat down across from his date.
"OH you wouldn't believe the man who was in the men's room with me." He informed his dinner companion.
"Why? What happened?"
"Well he told me that I had smoldering brown eyes and that I have been in his dreams."
Her mouth dropped open. "He did?!"
"Yes! And then he told me that I was about to take away someone who was very special to him and she was very vulnerable and he didn't want her to be hurt and unhappy. Then he told me to take good care of Angela."
"Angela? Who in the world is Angela?!"
He shrugged his shoulders. "Damned if I know!"
At their table Angela softly smiled.
He was jealous and worried about her. Why else would he act that way with a perfect stranger? She started laughing overwhelmed with the way Tony had acted tonight all because he couldn't handle things.
"Angela what's so funny?" Christopher asked and raised his eyebrow.
So Angela told him about the fact that Tony was here and why. Christopher had a good laugh about it too.
"Oh he really is having a problem with all this isn't he?" Christopher asked wiping the tears from his eyes.
Angela nodded. "It sure looks that way."
"Well it's all his own fault. He should have never let you go."
Angela smiled. She hoped so. She certainly hoped so.
KATHLEEN
Kathleen couldn't believe that Tony had bought her to this fancy restaurant. It was so sophisticated and elegant. She was anticipating having a lovely dinner and then going back to her place for a little dessert. But for some reason Tony seemed preoccupied with something. He kept getting up from their table and when he was with her he didn't pay much attention to her. She finally had enough and that was when he told her that he had dragged her down here so he could get a look at the guy Angela was dating. She couldn't believe it! That was the reason they were here?! So he could have a look at Angela's date? His boss's date?! What the hell was going on?
He then had the audacity to inform her that he didn't care if he saw Angela's date. So she decided to test him by pretending she saw him. Suddenly he was looking everywhere hoping to get a good look at him. She threw her napkin down and told him to call her when his whiplash healed and walked out on him. She hailed a taxi and was at her apartment in ten minutes. She opened a bottle of wine and poured herself a glass and gulped it down. The phone rang and she let her machine pick it up. After a few minutes she heard Tony's voice pleading for her to pick up the phone.
"Oh no I'm not going to make it that easy for you!" She sat down on her couch and put her feet up.
She sighed and thought about the night. Why in the world was Tony so concerned about Angela? She was a grown woman perfectly capable of taking care of herself. But for some reason he thought he had to take her to the same restaurant Angela was at just so he could make sure she was okay. It unnerved her for some reason. When she asked him if she was more than his boss he said that she was kind of more than that. But she could tell he wasn't being truthful with her. There was something between Tony and Angela. But whatever it was was confusing. She didn't understand it. And maybe she never would. So should she just cut her losses and end things now? Or should she give him another chance? Her phone rang again and again she let the machine pick up.
"Kathleen it's 10:33. its getting hard groveling to a machine. But I'll try! PLEASE!" She heard him hang up the phone.
Kathleen rolled her eyes and poured herself another glass of wine. After about ten minutes she decided to put Tony out of his misery. She picked her phone up and dialed Angela's number. After a few rings it was answered by Angela. Kathleen asked to speak to Tony and Angela told her just a minute and after a moment Tony came on the phone. They managed to talk things out and she decided to give him another chance.
She only hoped she didn't live to regret it.
