Hey everyone! I'm so happy we're getting a sequel to this series which deserves a lot more attention than it has. This was one of my first anime and thus holds a special place in my heart. I've been toying around with this idea before I even knew what fan fiction was XD! This fic might include elements from KNG 2 but there will be differences since that's an ongoing series. And we'll have some OCs (who will probably be OP once again because I sadly can't seem to limit the capabilities of my characters…) who will be the protagonists of the story. Yeah, you read that right… protagonists! Since I don't have a beta, I might make quite a few mistakes (especially with the names, it's a little annoying to change Zatch to Gash every single time… it seems that the English version of the names never really left me) so please bear with me. Yosh, I think I've covered all the important points… let's get into it, shall we?
Disclaimer: I do not own Konjiki no Gash Bell! or any of its characters (except the OCs) since they belong to Makoto Raiku.
"Where are we?", a cloaked figure asked their partner who was also covered from head to toe in similar attire. "In the wrong place. This is not where we will find him. I knew I should've handled the device. Though that doesn't matter since we have time on our hands. It's still too early for them to have arrived and we're not that far off anyways. Before finding him, now that we're earlier than expected, let's go somewhere else", the partner replied monotonously. "Are you sure doing something that drastic is such a good idea?", the figure asked doubtfully. "I don't see the problem. Our arrival itself will be changing things. And they will try their best anyways", the partner shrugged, "Fine then, as long as you know the way", the figure lightly nodded as they made their way to their destination.
"Now D. I will be giving you a few diseased cell samples. I want you to come up with a cure for them. I'll burn the scarf your mother sent for you if you don't comply with me", a bespectacled old man softly ordered a pale young man with white hair. He had a gleeful and evil smirk on his face as he took in the young man's disgusted expression. He loved mentally torturing the late teenager. It was a desire he thought would fade as the years passed on but instead of disappearing, it simply grew. He couldn't wait to tell the boy the truth about the mother he so desperately loved. But he would do that before killing him. The old man wondered what would bring the young man greater despair, the fact that his mother abandoned him for money or his imminent death.
He received a hateful glare from his test subject who wordlessly obeyed him. At least D knew that disobedience was futile. A few more questions and problems after which he would finally dispose of the boy. A pity, however, the boy was too dangerous. If D ever got out and managed to mingle with society and gain power (which was something he could easily achieve given his abilities), there was no doubt that he would kill his captor. And he wasn't fond of dying. He had a lot more to achieve in his life.
He carefully observed the actions of the young man in front of him. This would probably be the last time he would appear in front of the young man before flying back to his homeland and observing the man from afar. He had already planned everything out… he would send all the answers he had obtained from D to his government or anybody who offered him a lot of money. His sponsors had obtained only a fraction of his profits which mainly consisted of some vaccines for some diseases which were previously thought to be incurable. All the formulae for the various toxins and weapons of destruction were still in his hands. As he carefully noted down D's actions, one of his subordinates suddenly barged in with a frightened expression on his face.
"What is it?", he asked brusquely and grew irritated when D looked at them with curiosity and stopped working. He had soundproofed the entire room to ensure that D wouldn't get distracted when he was working on a particularly tough question. "We've got intruders! And they've cleared all our traps. They've somehow managed to evade the poison gas chamber. And th-", the man cried out as he was suddenly launched away from him by an invisible force. The old man looked at his subordinate in shock and fear before glancing in the direction the force had originated from. He saw two cloaked figures amidst a large cloud of smoke. 'What's happening? And why? Could it be someone who has managed to hear about my experiments? Are they after D?', he thought worriedly. Without D, he would be ruined! He could not let these intruders escape with his test subject. He wouldn't let them!
One of the figures threw out a stack of papers that landed at D's feet. The old man felt a chill travel across his spine as he recognised them. Those papers contained D's mother's signatures and were irrefutable proof of the fact that he had been sold. But how did these two obtain them? He had locked them in one of the world's most secure lockers. He immediately ran to prevent D from reading them but one of the figures shot at his leg. "Ahh", he screamed and fell.
"I've set up a bomb to blow this entire place apart. You can read those papers and decide if you want to set the trigger or not, Dufaux", the gunman spoke to D who looked at the figure with widened eyes. It had been a while since anybody had bothered to use his given name. He quickly skimmed through the papers and picked up a pencil since he expected it to be another problem but was shocked as he read through the contents. He felt his heart numb as he read about the transaction between his mother and the cruel professor who had been experimenting on him for so many years. So, in his mother's eyes, he wasn't even worth more than a measly $10,000? And she had never tried to reconnect with him even after selling him. Which meant that all the letters and other gifts that the professor had given or destroyed whenever he had disobeyed in the past were not from her. He quickly flipped through the papers which contained even more information. Such as the scientists' escape plan and tickets and the bomb they had ordered to explode in this place to kill him.
'So, they want to use me to the fullest before finally getting rid of me, huh!', Dufaux had a terrifyingly frightening smile on his face as he finally realised everything. "What do you two want from me?", he asked the two figures who had come here to 'save' him. But there had to be a catch, there was no way anybody would save him simply for the sake of it. "Nothing", the gunman replied before extending their hand. Dufaux stared at the figure as if he were entranced before determinedly taking it. There was no way he would continue to rot in this place. The figure pulled him up before turning to their partner who nodded.
The old man began laughing manically, "Hahahahah. So, you want to run away from me?! Did you really think I didn't prepare for such a scenario D!? If you take another step, you'll regret it for the rest of your life! Don't think you can ever escape this place peacefully! I have contacts all across the world. If you-" "Don't worry about it. I've disabled all their means of communication so he can't do anything to you. Let's leave now, shall we?", the figure calmly interrupted as the old man paled at their words. "Impossible! This can't be", the old man screeched and was promptly ignored by the other three who vanished in thin air.
"What was that?", Dufaux asked with wide eyes as the three of them smoothly landed on a pile of snow outside a huge infrastructure which resembled a secret laboratory in the middle of nowhere. "You'll understand when someone special approaches you. Here, this is the trigger for the bomb I set up. Whether or not you want to kill these guys is up to you. Is there a place you want us to drop you off at?", the figure questioned him before handing him a remote. "There's no place in my mind. I have nowhere to go, no home I belong to", he replied morosely before quickly pressing the button. There was no way he could ever let these guys off for what they did to him all these years. He expected the snow and debris to hit them but was surprised when nothing happened. To his amazement, the gunman's partner had extended his cloak to protect him. "Wha-", he began but was cut off when the partner grabbed them and teleported (because it couldn't be anything else) them to an area covered with green all around it.
"We're currently in a village in France. The answer-talker should grant you the ability to understand the language and even speak and write it. You'll be fluent in no time. Here's some money to start with. And if you want to keep in touch with us, there's a boy called Takamine Kiyomaro in Japan. Don't find him now because he doesn't know us yet. You can start looking for him when you meet someone interesting. We will meet again, Dufaux. Have a good and safe time until then", the gunman replied before disappearing with his partner. Dufaux stared at the spot his saviours were standing on seconds before with a strange feeling in his heart. He didn't even know them, yet they knew everything about him. And they didn't want to use him. "Why?", he asked himself as tears formed in his eyes. Why save him at all? Why did everything happen in the first place? He couldn't understand anything. He grabbed the money carefully and kneeled on the ground as he cried.
"A child? Is this whom they have decided to partner me up with?", a scrawny male with shaggy hair tsked as he approached the baby. He was carefully It wasn't as if he had any other choice. Maybe he could convince the kid to work with him. If the child didn't agree, he had other methods at his disposal. "Hello there. My name is Clear Note. What's yours?", he asked the baby who simply gave him a blank look. Clear Note frowned; it seemed that the kid didn't even understand his question. He was about to question the kid again in a softer voice when he was suddenly intercepted by two cloaked figures.
"I'm afraid we can't let you pursue your dreams", one of the figures spoke. Clear cursed as he swiftly dodged an attack from the other figure who seemed to be a demon/mamono. And a well-trained one, it seemed. But what was truly shocking was that there was a demon out there who was aware of his desires. It seemed he had no choice but to revise his plans. But he was having a hard time keeping up with his opponent, especially since he was also protecting his spell book. It seemed that he had no other choice but to control his partner. "I have a few questions for you, Clear Note. That's your name, am I correct? Oh, by the way, if you try anything funny, I will immediately kill your partner. Trust me, I won't hesitate a bit. If you know what's good for you, toss your book toward me and sit down quietly. We just want to ask you a few questions", the figure who wasn't attacking him (who was probably a human) spoke softly as they held the now unconscious baby in their arms. Clear couldn't help but glare at the human before listening to them. He was at a disadvantage anyways. Without his spells, he was powerless to stop his opponents. If the demon he was facing was a bit weaker, he would have tried attacking the human but that wasn't the case. As he sat down, he contemplated his next move.
"Thank you for listening to us. You've saved us time. We would like to receive your input regarding the demon battles that take place every 1,000 years in the human world. Who do you think started them and why? What do you think they're for?", the human asked him. Clear frowned. Why was this human asking him these questions? And why weren't they burning his book? What was going on over here? "Nobody knows the entity responsible for starting these battles also known as the 'The trial of the God' in the demon world. The creator of this battle, who is not a demon, created these to enforce order and balance. Can you imagine how disastrous the demon world would become if all of them were to let loose? This is why I must destroy all the demons", Clear explained his viewpoints.
"And what about your non-demonic allies? The ones who gave you all that information?", the human asked him. Clear stared at the human with a shocked expression. How did these two learn about those guys? What was happening here?! It seemed that lying to them was futile. But there was no way he would ever rat them out, even if meant him losing this battle! "Forget going back to the demon world, you won't even live to see another day if you lie or refuse to give us all your information. We have the means to kill you and trust me, it won't even take a second", the human ordered. "Is that so? Then there's no point in continuing this conversation. The time for all the demons will come to an end", Clear began and smirked when the demon extended his hand towards his spell book. It seemed that the human was planning on killing him but was actually sending him back to the demon world. Did the demon forget to tell the
The human cast the spell softly (so softly that even he couldn't it) before the book immediately caught fire. "How sad. Didn't your partner tell you burning our spell books results in us returning to our homeland? Even though I couldn't achieve my dream, I still haven't lost anything", he smirked as his body started disappearing. "Half-knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance", the human replied in kind. Clear narrowed his eyes. What did that mean? Before he could question the human any further, he disappeared from the human world.
"Do you really think he died?", the demon turned to their partner who simply shrugged, "Either dead or is in a realm inaccessible to you demons. We might have directly sent Clear to them and ruined everything. This was meant to be a gamble after all. We need to gather more allies in case we made a mistake. There are some mighty demons out there. Are you confident you can beat them if they disagree with us, not that I think they will unless they're out of their minds?", the human questioned back. "I can't guarantee you that. It all depends upon the number of spells we and they have. But I should be able to handle most of the demons in hand-to-hand combat if we don't have enough spells in our arsenal", the demon carefully answered. The human nodded, "We need to train more. Just one spell won't help us. We're not too far from a wide clearing which can serve as our training grounds. We can search for a place to live nearby. Let's go drop the child first." The demon followed their partner who carefully carried Clear's partner in their arms as they left to look for the kid's place.
Author's notes: We're done with the first chapter! I'm so glad, ahhh. Don't worry, we'll learn about our protagonist's names very soon. As for their abilities (I did drop some hints soooooo), we'll find out about those in due time. Please share your views and I hope to see y'all soon!
