After an arduous 14 hour stint in the kitchen I emerged triumphant with a cake fashioned in the likeness of Emily BrontÈ… for Bella. I am most pleased with my efforts and think it is a remarkable likeness! No doubt Bella will be delighted.
Of course I could not taste the cake, so there was a bit of guesswork in the cooking duration, but I think two hours was long enough, it definitely seemed to have shrunk a bit and darkened in colour afterwards. It smells like hot dirt so I'm sure that will be delicious to a human.
The decoration took some time, but the likeness is undeniable! Bella shall be so pleased! Or at least I hope she will.
Update:
Where to start?! The cake made Bella happy, I think. She groaned when I wished her a happy birthday, but then laughed a lot when she saw my handiwork. She seemed a little taken aback when she struggled to cut the cake with the bread knife I brought from the kitchen, so I had to cut the cake for her as she didn't have the upper body strength.
She took a lot of photographs and seemed very excited, though I am unsure if she realised who it was until I told her, but said 'oh I see it now! Of course!'
After looking at the slice, she replaced it and said she wanted to save the cake and that it 'looked too good to waste by eating it at school', so she took it home to eat it with Charlie. She told me she doesn't like a fuss on her birthday so didn't want to tell her school friends but thought it was kind of me to try and cook for her.
All in all a resounding success! Perhaps I shall become a baker!
