Not only was Father in front of him but Mother was too, both dressed in their Shinobi uniforms and both with an expression saying how displeased they were with him.
He decided to stare down at his shackled hands instead, focus on anything but his disappointed parents.
"Do you have any idea how disappointed we are? How embarrassed you've made the two of us with your tantrum?" Mother spoke first, Father's relentless silence nearly as cutting as her words.
He stayed silent, couldn't find anything to say, knew he couldn't say anything to make this situation better.
He just wished Itachi was here, that he could have someone to talk to, who wouldn't just stand there and blame him for this.
It wasn't his fault but everyone was treating it like it was, like he had been antagonizing Taiko and Nana from the start, that he had started any of this.
That he ever started any of this.
"Did you, even once, think over your actions, the consequences?" Father finally spoke, gestured towards his bound hands. "You've put yourself in this situation Sasuke. For no other reason than because you haven't thought through anything you've done today. You acted like a fool."
"I…" He didn't say anything more.
"Speak up." Mother seemed the most frustrated with him. He had likely interrupted her while she was coming back from her mission, had brought undue stress to her from his actions. "We didn't raise you to mutter, to be a coward when you're in the wrong."
"I didn't start this!" He, as much as he could, slammed his hands down on the table. "I never start it! Taiko, Nana, one of them attacked Sakura! I got angry and then…" He lost any and all of the sudden heat in his voice. "…It all just happened…"
He wished his parents would believe him, would trust that he wouldn't do something like this.
"And what reason would Taiko and Nana have to 'attack' your teammate? The two of them have been model students during their apprenticeships, have excelled at all tasks given to them and have all but guaranteed themselves a place on the Military Police Force. For what reason could they have to do anything you've accused them of?" Father's anger was growing with every word he spoke, a cold fury in each of his words. He didn't need to look up to know he was glaring at him, that he was enraged at him.
"I…I…" He hated the fact that he couldn't say anything, that all the words that would prove his innocence were trapped in his throat. He wished he could do anything at this moment.
"Dammit Sasuke!" A fist slammed down on the table, made him jump, look up at his parents. Father had lost his temper, had lost control of his anger for a moment to lash out again. "Do you have any idea what you've done? The mess you've gotten yourself into? You attacked two of my officers! You nearly attacked two of the first to respond!"
'They're lying!' Sasuke wished he could shout those words, prove to his father that this wasn't his fault. He hadn't done anything to Hideo or Satoshi, they were just part of Taiko's group, made it their life mission to make him miserable every chance they could.
Instead of defend himself, justify himself, he could only sit in a painful silence.
"And all you can do now is just sit there, blame others for your own mistakes!" Father hadn't calmed down, seemed to grow angrier when his head dropped down, when he failed to meet his red and black eyes. "What do you expect me to do when you cause a problem like this? What?"
He had nothing to say.
He just wished Itachi was here, that someone was here.
It wasn't his fault.
He hated the fact that his eyes were watering, that he couldn't blink away the tears in his eyes.
They fell onto the table.
Mother, at least he thought it was her, let out an irritated sigh.
"You're likely to be held for twenty-four hours." Mother seemed set to inform him what was going to happen. "Depending on what happens during it, you'll either be free to go or your father and I will work out a punishment between the two of us and the assaulted officers. Whatever it is, you'll do it without complaint."
He didn't say anything.
There was nothing he could say.
All he could do was sit there with his hands shackled, watch as his tears turned to ice.
"Why do you keep disappointing us like this Sasuke?" Mother left with those last words, Father back to his familiar silence.
