Bella called yesterday afternoon and asked to speak with Esme, she had sent her some flowers and Bella wanted to thank her. I offered to help Bella at school today, carrying her things and helping her make arrangements for finals week with her teachers for her exams. She thanked me and said it would be fine, but I insisted I at least help her at her locker and with her bag between classes. She reluctantly agreed and admitted her wrist is quite sore.
Ironically she seems a little less dispirited than before the accident, though still not back to herself entirely. She must have been nervous about diving all this time. I am glad her mood has lifted a little at least.
Alice emailed her and asked if she could go over after school tomorrow to study for finals together and then watch a movie with Bella to cheer her up. I admit I am quite jealous that Bella accepted, but am glad that Alice will keep her company this evening.
I feel so awful that she is suffering because I was distracted. I know Alice was calling to warn me, but the timing actually resulted in the injury and though I cannot hold it against Alice, I am angry that the whole situation occurred at all. Bella had been so happy just before it happened and it stole the moment from her.
I have called the most famous bakery in Phoenix that makes marranitos and arranged to have some shipped overnight to me, I know Bella mentioned that she liked them before and I feel they would make a good get well gift for her. I asked Alice to help me and we sewed her a sling in some nice fabric that Alice assured me was both practical and chic, including my idea for a phone pocket. We made a wedge shaped cushion too, so that Bella can elevate her arm as she sleeps and it hopefully won't bother her so much.
She will visit the hospital to get a cast in three days, although Carlisle insisted he could do it at home if Bella prefer, she wouldn't hear of it saying she had caused enough fuss already. Alice suggested I get some brightly coloured Sharpies so that she can decorate her cast or ask friends to.
I do hope she is not too horribly angry with me, though she has every right to be. I should have stopped it.
