It was a dark and stormy night out, and the titans were bored with everything having been done and the outside being too wet and cold to do anything. Luckily, two teammates were presenting something. Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven and Jinx stood in front of a door where Robin and Cyborg stood in between whom looked very excited. "Titans! On the other side of this door lies a world of adventure-"
"-Intrigue-" Cyborg added with jazz hands.
"-And danger." Robin whispered. "This is something truly beyond your imagination!"
"Oooo, imagination!" Starfire was entertained by that aspect.
"Alright, show us this magnificent thing you want to show us." Raven said, not wanting this to take too long with the ooos and aaaahs.
"Behold, the world of imagination!" Cyborg stated as he put in a pass code and the door entered to show a mostly bright blue room with white lines making the place look plaid. There's a computer station, something that resembles a Dalek, and a flat screen TV, 8 feet long diagonally.
"What's special about this room? Looks like just any old gamer room I've seen." Jinx commented with a sign of disappointment.
"Let me explain Jinx." Cyborg replied, putting on glasses where one side was shaded as his robot eye. "You see this thing that resembles a Kelad from Professor Why? This is a laser cannon that can send stuff to cyber space.
"Like that Clue the Mutt movie where the mystery solving group does that thing?" Beast Boy asked.
"Exactly! So I basically made that so we could experience it ourselves."
"Well, at least we won't have any of that Volt Virus villainy." The pink haired witch chuckled as she crossed her arms. "But it does sound interesting."
"And it's completely safe. Watch." Pressing a button, the cannon aimed at Beast Boy, and in a flash of white light, he was gone before he could make a noise.
"Beast Boy?!" Raven cried out, shocked he suddenly wasn't there. Cyborg then turned the TV on, and the titans saw the green shapeshifter in a forest.
"Whoa, that was crazy man!" Raven gave a big sigh. Putting on a video game head piece, Cyborg talked to his green buddy,
"Hey Beastie, you hear me?"
"Oh, I can hear you loud and clear dude!"
"You're in a controlled demo, so there's no need for worry of being attacked. Go and explore."
"Will do!" Garfield replied before running off.
"How did you know it was safe?" Raven asked, a little miffed her boyfriend was transported in a way that seemed like disintegration.
"Robin and I did a lot of experimenting. The last things we tested this on was Birdarang and Boom Box. And they were perfectly fine in getting in, partying a bit, and coming back out. It's safe." Victor assured her.
"Alright. Just give us a warning next time."
"Alright. So, who wants to go?!" The metallic titan asked his friends.
"Oh, oh, I wish to go inside the game made of video!" Starfire raised a hand.
"I wouldn't mind playing in something I co-created." Robin chuckled as he raised his own hand. Jinx followed as well.
"Certainly looks fun." Raven shrugged.
"Why not?"
"Great! I'll be mission control then, just so things don't go too wrong. Stand in front of the cannon, and I'll start the game." Standing in a tight group, the cannon then shot the titans into the game, and Cyborg started it.
Loading...Loading...Loading...Titan installation complete. Starting Teen Titans.
From outside, the tower was struck by lightning by the storm, and while some rooms didn't go out due to black out contingencies, a particular room did, and it seemed that nothing happened until a certain chip glowed red before white and blue electricity formed around the chip, creating just enough to move from its containment spot and break free before back up power came on to trap it if it stayed in one place.
"Overload...come back. Overload...get revenge." Crawling across the ground and reaching a light switch, it drained power from the switch until it grew human sized. Going to a vent, the entity zapped into the conductive metal and traveled through it. Things only got worse when it reached the titans' main data room and installed itself, the chip latching onto the computer.
Beast Boy woke up in bed, yawning as he sat up in his bed. He was dressed in a beige shirt and green pants, feet exposed and his tail not hidden for once as it slowly flicked around. Not that he needed to hide it but it kept other people from sitting on it frequently when he sat with someone on the couch. But it was also just habit that if a tail was necessary he'd turn into a monkey of sorts. Walking out of his bed room and exiting his house, he appeared to be in a forest based town with no technology.
"Interesting." Garfield stated before whistling.
"Hey Beast Boy!" He turned to see his friends approach. Robin was the one to call him, his skin shirtless but covered in green tattoos, his black hair long and unkempt, and just as lean yet muscular as he always was with a spear strapped to his back. His girlfriend had her short black hair tied into a small ponytail, though some hair still framed her face. Raven was also wearing a tan shirt with a black leather vest, and a blue skirt. Wooden sandels protected her feet, as did Jinx's. Although her dress was made from cheetah skin, a single strap covering her right shoulder while her pink hair was affected by gravity and thus pointing downward, but from a twin side ponytail sort of way. Starfire looked the most elegant as she resembled a maiden priest with a long pink dress, a gilded belt, boots and her hair pulled up into a bun the size of her head due to how much hair she had.
"Hey dudes! Nice looks."
"I certainly do look the pretty in this." Starfire agreed as she spun around while floating.
"Yes you do." Robin chuckled as he brought her close and kissed her.
"I look like a cavewoman." Jinx commented, not sure how to feel about her design. "All I need now is a giant bone club."
"Help! My cat is stuck on my roof!" A man called for help, a baby cat on a flat roof of a home. It meowed in distress. Starfire gasped as she said enthusiastically,
"Kitty!" Flying up, she hugged and snuggled with the cat and came down, before handing it to the man. "Here you go."
"Thank you, Starfire. You brought her back safe and sound!" He said, his voice sounding stilted for a second as he said her name. "You and your friends should go to the statue outside of our town." The man then went into his house.
"Why did he say my name all weird like?" The alien princess asked confused.
"Consider it a game quirk deliberately put in." Cyborg's voice answered from nowhere, spooking the titans for a sec. "To make it feel a little game like."
"Oh yeah, how are things going Cy?" Beast Boy asked.
"Like a charm. The tower lost power due to a lightning strike, but you guys are totally safe so there will be no power down deletion."
"Well that's good. I so don't want to be deleted today." Raven sarcastically responded.
"Well, since we now have an objective, let's head to this statue." Robin suggested, so they followed an easy path leading to a giant stone statue of a goddess in the distance. However, on the way two pig men jumped out, and tried to attack with cleavers. Beast Boy yelped as he was going to be sliced in half, when a black shield blocked the attack. Robin with his quick reflexes also blocked the second attack against him with his spear.
"Thanks Rae!" The green shapeshifter said before morphing into a wolf to attack his assailant. Robin swung his spear around and slashed the pig man in the belly, causing the monster to explode into red orbs which absorbed into him.
"Huh? What's that about?" The titan leader asked while Beast Boy crushed his foe's throat before it too exploded. Reverting back, they heard Cyborg answer,
"Those red dots are experience points. Remember that you handled research and finances while I did the coding. The more you win and fight, the more you level up to have more health and damage output."
"Sweet." Garfield chuckled. As they continued, the group then soon came across a large venus fly trap. One that could gobble them all up at once if it could! It roared as it grew thorny vines.
"Star, Raven, provide a distraction while the three of us attack the stem!" The Boy Wonder ordered. Everyone nodded as they did as instructed. The flying girls attacked from afar with either starbolts or floating trees that battered against its head while Jinx used her magic to burn away vines that came within too close. Robin chopped at the base while Beast Boy turned his head into that of Leaf Cutter Ant's of the same size as his regular head and started to saw his way through. As Starfire attacked, a vine grabbed her leg by surprise and she screamed as she was thrown down into the fly trap's gullet. "Starfire!" Robin yelled in horror. However, the plant creature started to growl as a green light shined through its throat before exploding, the head falling to the ground while a huffing Tamaranean descended to the ground, covered in slime. The creature then turned into red orbs and while some went to the others, most of them went to Starfire.
"That was most unpleasant." The female titan shuddered before she was hugged by her boyfriend.
"I thought you were hurt by being eaten." He said, clutching her body close to his, not caring about the slime.
"Oh Robin." Starfire sighed as she hugged him back. "I have survived worse creatures on Tamaran. The fly trapper from your planet Venus wouldn't do me in as easily. But I do appreciate your concern." Robin wiped away any tears he may have made and kissed her. She returned it fully. Beast Boy looked to Raven whom looked back, and took her hand.
"Let's keep each other protected too, okay?" He asked of her, and she smiled.
"Always." Their grip tightened and the two stared passionately before Jinx coughed.
"Don't leave a fellow dark girl hanging just because my guy ain't here. I could use a black shield as well if needed." The half-demon chuckled as she drew the metahuman in close.
"Of course. Us girls got to stick together too and all that cliche jazz." This time Jinx chuckled. As they continued, the titans entered a field where there was just one pig man. Noticing them, it squealed and then a whole group surrounded them, an ambush. The five went back to back, prepared to fight for their virtual lives. Raven went first as she picked two enemies up, and slammed them together with enough force they exploded into red orbs. Starfire flew up and fired starbolts at the incoming circle, breaking their ranks while gaining experience. Jinx sent a wave of hex magic, tripping up her line while Beast Boy as a bear tore through the animals. Defending against a slash, Robin gave an upper-cut to the pig man's chin before kicking it in the stomach, finishing it was a jab into the head with his spear. An enemy was going to hack into the Boy Wonder's exposed back if it weren't for Beast Boy slamming into the foe as a goat, allowing Starfire to finish it off with a strong punch into the ground through its stomach and a battle cry. Seeing a final row of them leaping at her, the Tamaranean fired a concentrated beam of green energy that blasted through them all, exploding as a result. They all congratulated themselves in their victory.
"Hooray! We are the victorious!"
"You said it Star!" Jinx chuckled. "Nice use of that bear for B!"
"Yeah, and thanks for saving me there." Robin also showed gratitude to the green teen whom chuckled.
"Thanks guys. Raven was also pretty sweet with her telekinesis." His girlfriend blushed.
"Thanks." All five then glowed as they leveled up to Level 2.
"Sweet." Jinx smiled.
"Joy! We have become stronger!" Starfire praised.
"Well, the game ain't over yet." Robin pointed out, keeping his spear ready. "Let's keep moving to the goddess statue." And on their way they went. A chasm tried to stop their progress but it barely slowed them down. They eventually reached the statue surrounded by some ruins. A white marble golem with a long sword stood still, standing in front of a door which was presumably to the next level. It leveled its longsword at them, before lifting it overhead. Swinging it down hard, it created a shock wave of pure air pressure which forced the five to split up. Charging, Robin gave a yell as he tried stabbing his spear into the golem, but it merely parried the attack away and slashed the spear end off. The titan leader looked up at the taller foe with worry as it tried to attack him, but the sword was blasted away by Jinx. Leaping up, it tried to perform a slamming attack against the metahuman, but she cartwheeled out of the way, causing it to crash into the ground. Leaving itself open, Beast Boy transformed into a gorilla and punched the golem in the face, cracking it. However, it just so happened to fall near its weapon, so it picked up its sword. With precision, it throw the sword right at the shapeshifter when Starfire swooped in and caught the rock made blade effortlessly. Raven enchanted it to deal more damage while the warrior princess fired her eye beams into the sword, making it stronger as she delivered a swift slash through the golem, which stood in place for a second before part of its body slid off from a perfectly clean cleave. It exploded where all the titans got more experience.
"Well done guys!" Cyborg congratulated his friends. "That was just the first level though, so prepare for more." The door opened up, allowing the teens to step through.
As Cyborg overlooked control at his computer station, an alarm went off.
"What?! An internal hacking?! What could-" He didn't get to finish his sentence as an electrical surge short-circuited the titan as he fell back with a heavy clunk. The TV glitched as it went white with a black chip in the center.
"Overload is what could. HAHAHA." The artificial intelligence laughed maliciously.
In the game, the titans have reached the final boss in an abandoned mine, either equipped with cavalry sabers or rifles while dressed as 1860s English bounty hunters, wearing white cotton shirts under black frock coats for Robin and Beast Boy while the girls wore black waistcoats. The boys were also the only ones wearing neck ties. All of them wore the same full length trousers. As for hats, the guys wore top hats while the girls wore bowler hats. Starfire and Jinx had their hair up as low buns while Raven kept her bob cut. Robin and Starfire wielded sabers while Raven and Jinx had rifles. Beast Boy on the other hand disregarded weapons altogether and just fought with animal morphed limbs since the caves weren't that comfortably spacious. Together, they slashed and shot through hordes of goblins until they finally met the Goblin King. It's just as you'd expect it to look. Green, giant, pot bellied, ugly as a deformed rock, and wielding a massive club.
"Titans, go!" Setting up a barrier around her and Jinx, they shot at the Goblin King perfectly protected, even when they had a large boulder thrown at them, simply crumbling to dust upon contact. Starfire distracted the beast with her speed as she slashed at exposed skin while firing with her eye beams when at a distance. Beast Boy also made for a good distraction by turning into a sasquach and gave a powerful roar as he charged and slammed shoulder first into the Goblin King, forcing the boss to fall onto his back with a loud thud. Robin dealt the finishing blow as he leapt over Beast Boy and sank his saber into where the beast's heart is. The King was dead.
"Well that wasn't too hard. It was even less difficult then the fly trap." Jinx commented.
"Cy and I will be sure to amp up the difficulty and put in more content. Right?" He asked his friend, but Victor didn't reply. "Cyborg?"
"No." A villainous voice replied. "Cyborg...overloaded." Robin received a painful shock and yelled as he was blown off from the Goblin King's body, which didn't explode but rather cackled with electricity, turning white and a chip appearing on its forehead.
"Overload?!" Raven gasped.
"How did he escape?!" Beast Boy questioned.
"This game is mine. Now Overload will give you Game Over." Raising its electrified club, it slammed it down into the ground which sent an electrical current which shocked Starfire and Beast Boy next, sending them flying into walls, causing them to grunt in discomfort as they fell. Starfire's bun came loose and pooled around her weakened body. Raven and Jinx were still protected by Raven's soul-self shield, so they didn't fall. Jinx tried shooting at the chip, but it moved around faster than she could aim and shoot, plus the bullets simply passed through the electricity. Overload tried electrocuting the two dark girls directly but the sorceress's shield was too strong. Raven looked at the ceiling and got an idea.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Raven yelled, causing the stalactites around the ceiling to glow black, break off, and fly at Overload from all directions. While some disintegrated against its body, there was too much rock flying at him and Overload was forced to retreat from the situation.
"You'll pay!" The villain shouted before advancing to the next level. Raven went to her boyfriend while Jinx went to Robin.
"Beast Boy, are you okay?" He groaned in response.
"Ugh, I'm fine mama. Just shocked is all."
"Thank goodness." Raven sighed as she hugged him. He returned it.
"So Overload has come back?" Starfire asked, now concerned.
"It appears the room holding him went out from the lightning bolt Cyborg mentioned. And given he's not responding, Overload must've gotten him."
"And now he's in the game." Raven concluded. "If we don't stop Overload, then we'll die and it will consume all the technology in the tower."
"We won't let that happen." Robin declared. "Let's beat this villain."
A/N: I used Skyward Sword + Fable 2 as inspiration. Cool huh?
