DIVINE ANOMALY
VOL.1:
PROLOGUE: TIME TRAVEL.
Sometimes in my dreams, I can't help but remember my death in my past life.
It is a vivid memory that is burned in the depths of my soul.
Fragments of what was my last battle flashed before my eyes.
"Worm".
"What's happening? I thought you were capable of stopping my attacks. You puny piece of shit!"
"Know your place little fish..."
"DIE AT ONCE!"
After that, I only remember feeling pain, much more pain than I had ever felt in my entire life.
It was believed that when a person is about to die he sees his life pass in front of his eyes. At first I thought it was a simple superstition, but now that I am in this situation, I can confirm that this theory is true.
"Hail Perseus Jackson, son of the sea god!"
"Goodbye Percy, a new Golden Age is coming, it's a shame you won't be part of it".
"I am Thalia, daughter of Zeus".
"Tell Nico that I'm sorry".
"It is an honor for me that you carry this sword".
"May the world learn to honor you, my hunter. She lives forever in the stars".
"I hate you!"
"I know your doubts. But I give you news: when the time comes, fear will not take over you".
"She was a great heroine, understand? A heroine".
"Ethan. I. All the unclaimed... Don't let it happen again".
"Hail Perseus Jackson! Hero of Olympus... and my big brother!"
There are many things that I wouldn't change for anything. But there were also many of them that I would like to change, to have handled things better, to reduce the casualties.
Zoe.
Bianca.
Beckendorf.
Silena.
And many more, whose lives had been lost in the wars against Kronos and Gaia, Annabeth often tells me that nothing that happened back then was my fault, but the constant, what ifs, never stop tormenting me. my dreams, and after my walk in Tartarus those thoughts only got worse.
If only I could go back in time, I would do things differently, I would become stronger, I would prepare my friends and my family for the battles to come.
If only... if only I could start over.
/-/
I opened my eyes slowly, I felt terrible, parts of my body hurt that I didn't know I had, and my head hurt worse than that time I agreed to go out with Apollo and Hermes to a: "Boys' Night Out" and I ended up with a huge hangover.
I looked around, studying my surroundings, the first thing I noticed was that I was not in the Ragnarök Coliseum, where if I remember correctly I was fighting a twisted counterpart of my father, who was nothing more than a tyrant, with a mentality very screwed up about perfection or something, the truth was not very different from my dearest grandfather, Kronos.
Returning to the main topic at hand, studying my surroundings I saw that I was in what seemed to be some kind of temple, very similar to those on Olympus, although the characteristics of these confused me, generally the interior of temples is similar to the domains that the gods exercise, but in this case it was very difficult for me to describe my surroundings, it is as if I were seeing everything that ever existed, exists and will exist in the world, at the same time nothingness itself.
"You better not let your guard down kid"—a voice echoed in my mind—. "You never know what could happen."
I blinked a few times, slightly surprised by the voice in my head.
"Hjörþrimul?"—I asked mentally.
In an emerald green flash the spectral figure of the Valkyrie who accompanied me in my battle against my father manifested.
"In the flesh, child" — she smiled from ear to ear, then he noticed her ghostly body —. "Well more or less".
He was about to say something, but a new voice stopped him.
"Ha! Just when I think you can't surprise me, you go and do this!" She laughed jovially. "Seriously kid, you sure know how to entertain a deity".
Hjörþrimul and I quickly turned around to find the source of the voice.
Hjör gave a sharp screech and quickly knelt down. I for my part only looked at the stranger in front of me.
He was practically indescribable, his appearance was constantly changing, much faster than my brain could process, and his mere presence and power could have made Zeus soil his pants. Everything about this being could be summed up in a single word: Chaotic.
For me, damn bad luck, my ADHD had taken control of my actions without me being able to do anything about it.
"Hello, I'm Percy," I introduced myself, ignoring the horrified look on Hjör's face. "Who are you?"
The man, or was it a woman?, in front of me simply laughed harder while holding his side.
"Oh, for me! It's always refreshing to talk to you Percy, you and your counterparts always manage to make me smile".
I tilted my head, surprised by the words of the being in front of me.
"Counterparts?" I questioned him.
"That will be a story for another time, child," the stranger responded simply.
"Ah," I articulated eloquently.
Out of nowhere, I let out a cry of pain when I was caught off guard by a blow to the head.
He looked with irritation at the person responsible for such an action.
"What the hell Hjör?! Why in Hades did you hit me?!", I growled at the Valkyrie. "And how in the name of Tartarus are you able to even hit me? You're a fucking ghost!"
Hjörþrimul snorted and glared at me.
"First of all, I can hit you because I am united to you, our bond allows me to be able to touch you even when I am in my spectral form,"— my soul mate explained to me. — "Secondly, I'm trying to stop you from killing us both, again! Do you have any idea who's in front of you?"
I looked at the entity again, who simply smiled and waved at me.
I looked at the Valkyrie again.
"Should I...?" I asked a little unsure.
Hjör facepalmed.
"There is no doubt that you are stupid."
"Hey!"
"Ahem...as entertaining as your conversation is, there are some matters we need to discuss," the mysterious being informed us.
Hjörþrimul bowed again and looked at the guy with doubt.
"May I ask what these matters are, Lord Ginungagap?"
In an instant, the name my companion quickly recited was translated in my mind, much like when I read something written in ancient Greek.
"Chaos," I murmured, remembering one of Annabeth's classes on Greek mythology. "You are the creator of everything and everyone, the first being that existed and the last one that ceased to exist, the primordial Chaos".
Chaos gave me a winning smile.
"That mere boy. I have to admit I'm impressed that you're knowledgeable about who I am, you usually leave the thinking part to your girlfriend".
I frowned in irritation.
"I'll let you know," I growled, forgetting that he was a deity capable of erasing my existence without even lifting a finger, "that I'm not stupid. I just don't like studying".
Hjörþrimul let out a long-suffering groan.
"We're dead, we're so fucking dead,"— he muttered frantically, curling into a ball. — "I'm going to die again, if I had known I would have had a last dinner worthy of Valhalla."
"I thought I just broke my Valkyrie," I commented into the air, I looked at Chaos. "Well, leaving aside Hjör's drama..."
"Hey!"
"...what are these matters that we must discuss?" I asked, tilting my head.
Chaos's attitude took a 180 degree turn, his face darkened and he gave me a look of, pity? Regret?
For some reason I have a very bad feeling.
"You might want to sit down for this, kid," he gestured with his hand and a chair appeared next to me. "Because what I'm about to tell you will be difficult to digest".
/-/
Once Chaos finished his explanation of how and why he ended up here, I felt my heart shatter into a thousand pieces.
My breathing became irregular, and my entire body shook in a combination of rage, helplessness, horror, and pain.
Everyone I've ever loved, my friends, my family, my wise girl.
They were all dead.
According to Chaos' words, everything happened during Apollo's penultimate test in the body of Lester Papadopoulos and his confrontation against the Roman king, Tarquinius, and his army of undead.
Apparently, this test had to be completed in conjunction with the help of the Roman goddess, Diana and resulting in the victory of Lester, who now, thanks to the fact that he also participated in Ragnarök, had a Völundr capable of helping him recover safely. temporary his divinity.
It should have been an easy victory.
Unfortunately it was not like that.
In all the infinite wisdom of him, the old thunderface of Zeus or Jupiter, refused to allow any deity to help Lester complete his fourth test.
The end result: a zombie apocalypse where even the gods were affected, as their powers were drastically reduced and they were also turned into the living dead.
I asked, or rather begged, Chaos to see it with my own eyes, at first he refused but finally relented, it was only a few minutes, but it was more than enough to relive several traumas that I obtained during my journey to through Tartarus.
Mom, dad, Paul, Estelle, Grover, Thalía, Nico, Annabeth.
All of them were gone, and I was not there to save them, they could not even be granted the rest that they clearly deserved since in that state, the soul of the infected remains in the body of its victim, making it impossible for them to reach the Underworld. .
Feeling my eyes burn, my heart beat furiously and my nails dig into my skin, I fell to my knees as I threw my head back and let out a scream full of rage and pain, cursing Zeus, Tarquinius and destiny itself in a thousand ways.
In a fit of anger I hit the floor of the Chaos palace with all my strength, my fist shattering the marble floor, I didn't even pay attention to the lack of pain or the enormous increase in my strength.
I just wanted to vent.
Everything around me began to tremble slightly, little by little the magnitude of the tremor increased more and more until it became a powerful earthquake that shook the palace of Chaos.
PERSEUS-ENNOSIGEO: FURIOUS AVENGER WHO SHAKES THE EARTH!
/-/
"And you're more relaxed?"
Even after unleashing a powerful earthquake in his palace, Chaos's countenance remained calm and patient.
I let out a shaky breath and looked at him.
"No, I'm not," I answered honestly. "I still want to scream, I want to burst into tears, but above all I want to hit Zeus with his Master Bolt where the sun doesn't shine.
"Heh, believe me kid, you're not the only one who wants to do it." Chaos smiled slyly.
I tried to return the gesture, but it was impossible.
"And now what?" I asked. My whole world just went to Tartarus, "I have nowhere to go, and no offense, but I didn't feel comfortable staying here".
Chaos dismissed my final comment.
"Meh, the truth is that this place is not comfortable anyway" she rested her face on his fist. "As for what to do, do you remember what your last wish was before dying in your fight against Poseidon?" He asked me.
I adopted a thoughtful grimace and searched through my memories.
"I remember feeling helpless remembering my failures during the Wars against Kronos and Gaia", my face darkened, "reviewing said scenarios and seeing that I could have made better decisions, have avoided the death of many, and I don't know, I thought I just wanted to. start over and do everything in a better way, but I know that is impossible".
"What if I told you it's not?" the creator questioned.
"Eh?"
"If I told you that you could go back in time and have a new beginning, what would you do?"
"But isn't that something impossible to do?" I questioned him, despite that a spark of hope began to be born in my heart.
"Normally it would be like this, whether for a mortal, demigod, god, and even a titan," she explained, then pointed at me. "But you my friend, you are no such thing".
"What do you mean?" I frowned. "I am a demigod".
Chaos shook his head.
"Not anymore, you will see during your battle against the Tyrant of the Seas, your determination as well as your bond with the Valkyrie Hjörþrimul resulted in the birth of a new type of divinity, a being that is totally human and totally divine at the same time. A divine anomaly if you like to put it in simple terms," the primordial explained. "You possess the potential of a god, and you have the strengths and weaknesses that the human being brings with it and as such you are not tied to the laws that govern the gods of your world, but now you are the owner of divine domains as dictated by the divine laws of Olympus".
I swallowed a heavy lump that had formed in my throat.
"What do you mean by divine domains?"
Chaos took a firm stance, his eyes flashed with raw power, and with a majestic and authoritative voice, he spoke:
"From today, you will be known as Perseus Jackson!, God of the seas, swordsmanship and loyalty, protector of the demigods, guardian of time!"
I instantly felt a great amount of energy go through my entire body, I felt revitalized, all the fatigue I previously suffered was completely eliminated, and energy was replaced.
"Oh yeah, that feels so good!"— Hjör exclaimed ecstatically, his spectral body glowing in a blinding emerald light for a few seconds before dimming. — "Ugh, this is much better"— she exclaimed, her ghostly body had been left behind, revealing his original appearance in all its splendor.
I was left admiring my body, I felt revitalized, full of energy, it was the same feeling I usually have every time I am in contact with water.
Once I got over my initial surprise, the words said earlier by Chaos were registered by my brain.
My face turned pale instantly.
"Time?", I asked almost in a whisper, internally praying that I had heard wrong, "is one of my domains time?"
Chaos nodded his head gravely.
"Yes, due to your victory over Kronos you have earned the right to possess dominion over time," he explained. "It is also necessary to be able to send you to the past".
I stood deathly still.
"You mean it's possible to go back in time?" I looked at him hopefully. "Can I really save everyone from the cruel fate they suffered?"
"That's right, but you must be careful with what you want, Perseus Jackson, since for every change you make, no matter how small, it will have a great impact on what you know," the primordial warned me. "Keep in mind that for every life you save, another will probably have to take its place and by extension will have to die".
I had not thought of that.
It is true that by going back to the past I could avoid and change many things for the better, but there was also the possibility that these things would change for the worse.
Chaos patted me on the shoulder.
"I will give you time to think about it carefully, if you decide to move forward I will send you to the past and provide all the help I can without directly interfering, or if instead you decide to give up and stay here", he shrugged. "Well, I wouldn't complain about having a little company, you know?"
After that the creator retired, leaving Hjörþrimul and me alone.
"What do you think about this?" I asked my friend.
"Whatever you decide is fine with me," she shrugged. "We are both a combo now, so whatever your decision is is fine with me".
I remained silent, pondering Chaos' words and studying the pros and cons of the two options available to me.
This was not a decision I could make lightly, or following my instincts.
This time, I needed to use my brain.
/-/
"Have you made a decision?" Chaos asked.
I nodded.
"Yes, I want to return to the past, not only to amend my mistakes, but also to avoid the tragic future of my world at the hands of Tarquin, but I will be careful not to alter too much of what was once my life," I responded with conviction.
This time, I'll do things right. As long as I live and breathe none of my friends and loved ones will die.
Mom, dad, Paul, Estelle, Annabeth, Grover, guys, please wait for me.
The creator smiled from ear to ear, his eyes shining with excitement.
"Then I have nothing more to say, I hope we meet again soon Perseus Jackson, good luck to you" I snapped my fingers, and almost instantly I felt my whole body filled with energy. "NOW GO!"
Instantly, I focused all the energy in my body while in my mind I remembered the exact date when I first woke up in the camp infirmary.
Out of the corner of my eye, in one of the silver mirrors of the palace of Chaos I saw my reflection, my entire body was wrapped in a gold-colored aura, as were my eyes, which had turned golden, very similar to that time when Kronos possessed the Luke's body.
Hjör's body also glowed and returned to its spectral form.
"Are you ready for this?"— my partner asked.
"Yes, I'm more than ready"—I answered confidently.
"Then fasten your seatbelt kid, next stop, the past!"—Hjör exclaimed excitedly.
I looked at the primordial one last time before the golden light blinded me completely.
The next time I open my eyes again, I'll be in the past, and I'll be ready for whatever Kronos, Gaia, and Tarquinius have to throw at me.
This time, I won't fail.
EÒN PARADOX: SUPREME DEITY THAT CONTROLS TIME!
/-/
And court ladies and gentlemen, what did you think of this new prologue?
The truth is that the previous one didn't do it much justice, not to mention that it is easier to write from Percy's point of view IMHO.
Not to mention that Percy's previous reason for going back in time was also kind of weak, of course he had hero and survivor guilt, but I still don't see it as a sufficient reason for him to want to go back to the past, leaving life behind. which he had already formed with his friends, and his beloved smartass.
In the events of "The Sword of Hades" Percy himself states that he let his ghosts rest in peace, despite the pain that his loss still weighs on him.
It's highly unlikely that he would leave all that behind without a real reason, so I decided to give him one, using the story of Tarquinius: King of the Undead, written by Revan, as a basis.
Now, with his world becoming a post-apocalyptic world, Percy has a real reason to go back to the past and try to change things for the better, but he must be careful not to screw up the future, and considering his luck, which It's very bad, it will be very difficult for you to do it.
For those who are curious about the pairing I decided to just go with the flow and see what happens, there will be moments of Percabeth and Pertemis, don't have any doubt about that, with the rest we will see how it develops.
Well, once everything is clear, I can only say goodbye and hope to see you in the next update.
As a side note, I apologize for any spelling errors that may be found, the truth is that although this chapter is my creation, I used the translator to translate it into English since my knowledge of said language is basic, and therefore I couldn't do a translation from scratch so I had to rely on Google.
