June 1976, Greenhouse 3, Hogwarts Castle
Jamie,
Have you heard? Has news of the atrocities befallen Wizarding Britain reached your ears? I am frightfully aware of how detached and uniformed our family is with the outer world but surely you have heard? I fear of putting too much in writing, I have a feeling I am being watched constantly by a certain someone Katana has once described as a meddling old goat with scales instead of wool. How I long to ask for your advice, to tell you in person what I have been doing and what has happened around me but our mother is clever and far more guile than even I have realized, her carefully crafted vow of silence is so specific and detailed I couldn't even tell you the color of my pants or the way I style my hair, not for a few more years anyway. I am counting down the days towards my freedom, this expedition I was once so infatuated with has become tiresome in ways I did not think possible for me and utterly confusing as well. I fear I may commit treason against our family, but worry not sister my choices are not set in stone and I have time to overhaul my many plans. Please do not share my words with the others, especially mother, I fear she may take my written words to heart and take a drastic measure to continue Grandmothers plans. I know you are confused and my letters never relieve you of that feeling but selfishly help me work through my inner struggl-
A splotch of ink hits the parchment as Evie pauses debating weather to even finish the letter, she would surely alarm her sister and there was no telling the lengths James would go to relieve the curiosity this letter would surely insight. She set her quill down and with a quick snap of her fingers she lit the letter on fire. No, she could not risk sending the letter and as she watched the letter burn slowly in her hand she let out a sad little humph of irritation. She was alone, completely and utterly alone. No one around her knew who she was, who she truly was, or anything about her, even her favorite color, Amethyst, was a secret. Vega Evander Flamel was a person buried so deep within her that at times she believed she was Lily Evans, genius Muggle-Born with a fiery personality and righteous heart of gold. She felt as if she was losing her mind and body to a fictional being that never existed and it was starting to really piss her off, so she began to plan, her mother had been adamant about a few events needing to come to fruition but everything else was a very loose guide of blind spots and an expiration date and Evie could work with that.
She packed her belongings and headed out of the greenhouse and towards the library where her friends or should she say Lily's friends where studying like women possessed for OWLs, they had only one week left before examinations began and though she was overly prepared appearances had to be maintained. As she walked she began to imagine what her life could look like if she had been born as Lily Evans, what her future could look like and as she neared the doors to the library she decided to take the opportunity she had and take it fully. Pausing before the doors she had a realization the only thing standing in the way of her dream future was a book, a book she knew she could get her hands on, all it would take was a little deception and she was well versed in that now. Grinning she stepped into the library and went to find her friends self assured that nothing could go wrong, she had a plan and was confident in the ability to execute it. Though as she sat at the library table and began chatting with Marlene McKinnon and Mary McDonald she had forgotten about one thing, everything has a price.
October 31, 1979. Potter Cottage, Godric's Hollow
Black curling smoke began to erupt from the cauldron on the stove, Evie took a deep breath, her plan so far had succeed with only the tiniest of bumps and now it was time for the pivotal most important step. She had gone through everything twice and made sure her new husband was a way for the day. James Potter was just the person she had always envisioned her self with, charming, fun, loyal, charismatic and Handsome. Though Lily Evans couldn't be fond of him on principle, Evie was able to subtlety change James's more brash and childish tendencies with the help of mind games and loudly spoken proclamations of his worst traits within hearing distance enough to the point that his friends caught on and helped him "grow up". The added bonus of James being Head Boy and the large amount of time in close proximity made it even more probable that Lily Evans could have naturally "caught feelings" for this mature and responsible James Potter without too many questions. With the help of an obscure ritual she was able to make her self untraceable days after graduating Hogwarts, her mother could no longer track or scry for her and although she could still find her by asking the correct questions in the ministry it would bring far too much attention to her. Regular witches and wizards don't get unrestricted access to personal records and her mother though brilliant would have to spend too much time researching and studying the higher ups in the ministry of Magic in order to try and infiltrate it that developing a wait and see policy was more likely her plan of action.
As the thick smoke filled the kitchen she began to have second thoughts, what if she couldn't fulfill her side of the bargain she knew would come, nothing is free and when making deals with death their is always a price. Suddenly the smoke cleared and there he was the being that had filled her sleep with nightmares decades ago. He was just as James and Katana described, eerily beautiful with a presence that was both terrifying and captivating at the same time, you didn't know whether to bow or run and hide.
"I have been watching for some time youngest Flamel, fate has told me of your plan to ask for a boon, just as your eldest sister before you, you have slightly underestimated my interest in humanity" he smiled a sharp crooked smile. "I know what you want and will graciously bestow upon you this favor but be sure of your choice because once you accept there is no going back"
Evie swallowed thickly and nodded. "I know, this is the only thing I will ever ask of you and I will shoulder any and all responsibility that comes with it"
Death took a small vial carved from black marble from his cloak and and set it on the kitchen table. "All you have to do is drink this before laying with your husband, but be warned the instant the potion touches your tongue your immortality will be gone and you will be mortal but have no fear for your child, as agreed before with Phoenix James, the child will be me though he will never see me, he is my chosen and I will watch over him until I deem it his time to join me in my realm"
"But I thought you wanted a child that was half yours?" She questioned confused. "This child will be half mine and half of James Potter"
"But my dear he will be in a way" he grinned and suddenly had a look of deep amusement. "Ah, but I guess you must not know, you really should have done more research on your husband before you married him, let us just say he has a very interesting family history and although you have partially escaped your grandmothers plans that doesn't mean that another member of the Slytherin-Ravenclaw family wont be substituted in your place to fulfill the old prophecy" He stepped back watching Evie with slight amusement. "I do not need a verbal agreement as taking the potion will be acknowledgment enough, I look forward to seeing what you choose young Flamel, you have already created much entertainment for me so far"
With that he left in a blink of an eye and as she heard the whoosh of the floo she quickly made up her mind. The moments between James' arrival home and him stepping into the kitchen to greet her, she had vanished the cauldron, uncorked the little vial and without anymore thought she sealed her fate and greedily drank the small amount of tasteless potion from the vial. It was like water, cool and refreshing but with a hint of foreboding coming in at the end that made the hairs on her arm stand. It would be three months into her pregnancy when she would discover the familial link between the Potters and the Peverells and after bringing it to her husbands attention he would laugh and tell her that they where not his most famous ancestor and divulge a family secret that would have her painfully regretting not paying more attention to the updated pages of Godric's family tree before she left Flamel Castle, if she had she would have noticed the last two living heirs of Godric Gryffindor; Frank Longbottom and James Potter.
