Spoiler warning: this chapter contains spoilers from A new Boy in Berk: Defenders of Berk chapters 22 and 23
Battle for Outcast Island
I'm really going to miss Thornado, nothing bad happened to him, it's just that he doesn't live at Berk anymore
One day, Hiccup and Stoick found some Thunderdrum hatchlings and they followed them back to Berk
The first thing they did was making chaos all around the village by braking stuff and attacking with sonic blasts every dragon or Viking in sight
Somehow, Hiccup was able to convince Stoick to train them, so… we tried to train them and… we almost ended deaf in just a couple of minutes
Thornado was the only dragon capable of keeping the hatchlings under control
Eventually, we had to take them to Dragon Island since they couldn't stay at Berk. However, they weren't welcomed there either, so… Stoick made a decision… he released Thornado
Of course, Thornado was hesitant about it but he knew he had to stay with the hatchlings and be their father… it's kind of sad
I don't know what would I do it Blake releases me… we both know I'm free to go whenever I want but I like it here at Berk, why would I want to leave?
I also can't imagine myself as a father… maybe in a lot of years but I can't imagine myself as a father now
Anyway, today just like any other days we're doing a training exercise, this time we'll fly around the forest where Gobber and some other Vikings were preparing an ambush for us
It all went fine until
"Ambush!" Fishlegs yelled
"Plasma blast, bud" Hiccup ordered
Toothless fired a plasma blast destroying one boulder, Meatlug caught in her mouth a second boulder and ate it
"Ha, that's nothing" she said
Another boulder was about to hit the twins but Barf and Belch spun out of its way
"That thing nearly took my head off" Rufnut said
"It did?" Tuffnut said before looking down "Gobber, do it again!"
"There's too many of them" Blake said just before I had to fly higher to avoid being hit by a boulder
"That was a too close" I said
"Fall back, everyone!" Hiccup ordered, so we all started to fly away, except for Snotlout and Hookfang
"You fall back, I'm going in to finish this" Snotlout said
"Yeah! We don't fall back!" Hookfang agreed before diving down
"Snotlout, that's not the exercise! Retreat!" Hiccup yelled
"Hookfang, get back here before you get your rider and yourself killed!" Toothless yelled
"I've got your retreat" Snotlout said as he flew towards the catapults "Right here!"
Hookfang shot a fireball at one of the catapults before flying back with the others. However, the fireball also triggered the catapult making it shot a boulder
The boulder flew past Snotlout who didn't even notice, the boulder was about to hit Hiccup and Toothless but he moved out of the way in time but it hit Astrid, making fall from Stormfly's back
"Astrid!" Stormfly and Hiccup yelled before diving down after her
Astrid screamed as she was falling towards the ground hitting some branches in the process and she passed out
Luckily, Toothless was able to caught her just before she hit the ground, so we all landed
"She's going to be okay, right?" Stormfly asked worriedly as Toothless placed Astrid on the ground
"Don't worry, she only got a bit hit" Toothless said
Then, Astrid began to wake up and she saw Hiccup, Fishlegs and Stormfly looking at her
"What… what happened?" Astrid asked just before Snotlout and Hookfang landed next to us
That's right, that's how Snotlout retreats… he doesn't, boom!" he yelled but we all glared at him and Hookfang
"What are you looking at us like that?" Hookfang asked
"You seriously don't know what you did?" Blake asked as he help Astrid up
"What? Hiccup's stupid exercise?" Snotlout asked "Or you're talking about Hookfang and me making the coolest trick shot ever?"
"You almost got Astrid killed!" Hiccup yelled
"Wait, what?" Hookfang asked
"Because of your reckless attack, she fell off my back!" Stormfly almost yelled
"Come one, she's fine, look at her" Snotlout said
"No thanks to you" Astrid said before trying to run towards Snotlout angrily, but Hiccup managed to hold her back
"Okay, easy there, Astrid" Hiccup said
"I want to kill him!" Astrid said
"Alright, let's take you with Gothi to see if you're completely fine" Blake said as he walked away with Astrid who was muttering angrily to herself, definitely planning to beat up Snotlout if she had the chance
"I'm tired of this" Hiccup said
"I'm tired of this" Snotlout repeated "What are you tired of?"
"You always have to do things your way" Hiccup said
"Yeah, well guess what? I look out for number one" Snotlout said before he and Hiccup ducked to avoid Hookfang's fire blast "And one A"
"Exactly, how can we rely on you if you don't do what we ask?" Hiccup asked
"So, what are you going to do, Hiccup?" Snotlout asked as he crossed his arms
"I'm saying until further notice you're suspended for the Academy" Hiccup said making everyone gasp
"Toothless, what has got into your rider?" Belch asked
"I… I don't know" Toothless said
"What?!" Snotlout said
"You're grounded" Hiccup said
"You can't ground me or you're not my dad" Snotlout said as he poked Hiccup's chest
"Yes I can!" Hiccup said as he poked Snotlout's chest
"Oh, really?" Snotlout asked glaring at Hiccup who remained firm "Watch" he walked towards Hookfang and got on his neck "Ground this, dragon boy!" Snotlout yelled before flying off
"Uh… I'm wrong in thinking grounding means staying on the ground because that looks an awful like… uh… skying" Tuffnut said
"You didn't have to do that for me" Astrid said as she walked towards Hiccup
"If we can't count on him during practice, how can we possibly count on him on the next time we run into Dagur?" Hiccup sighed as he turned around
Well, he's got a point
Later that day, after Blake and I took Astrid with Gothi, we reunited at the academy but nothing really interested happened there, Snotlout hadn't returned yet
And Hiccup was unsure if he should permanently expel Snotlout from the academy because if he doesn't discipline him, that could make him lose the respect of the other riders
Anyway, later that day, Hiccup, Toothless, Blake and I were hanging around the village's plaza
"I still don't know what to do with Snotlout, he's driving me crazy" Hiccup said
"I don't blame you, with the way he's been acting he would drive anyone crazy" Blake said
"And Hookfang doesn't help at all" Toothless said
"Sometimes I don't know who's worse" I said
"You think Hookfang wants to behave like that?" Toothless asked
"Knowing him, I'd say yes" I said
"You're right but I don't want to expel him from the academy but if he continues like this, I don't think I'll have a choice" Hiccup said "By the way, Snotlout hasn't returned, has he?"
"No, it's kind of weird, he probably put himself and Hookfang in trouble" Blake said
"That wouldn't be anything new" I muttered before we saw a crowd of Vikings, so we went to investigate
Stoick was nearby, so he joined us and helped us to make our way through the crowd
"Okay, okay, what's going on here?" Stoick asked
For my surprise, Hookfang was standing in the middle of the crowd but Snotlout is on the ground and Hookfang has a second rider
"I captured him" Snotlout said before passing out
Then, for everyone's surprise, the second rider revealed himself… it was Alvin
"Alvin?!" Hiccup gasped
"Alvin!" Stoick said glaring at said man
"Alvin!" Toothless and I growled
"I-Impossible" Blake said in complete shock as he gave a step backwards, he looks like he's about to faint
Alvin was immediately and taken to the jail but he didn't resist
Blake was still in shock after a while, so he sat at the edge of his bed as he tried to process everything
"I can't believe it… he's been alive this whole time" Blake said before I nuzzled him trying to comfort him
"Come on, Blake. Alvin is alive and what? we'll finally put him in his place" I said
"Thanks, Thunder… but… that's not really helping" Blake said, so I gave a step backwards "I don't know why I'm happy that Alvin's alive but I also want to kill him with my own hands but there's also a lot of stuff I want to tell him"
I didn't say anything, I just looked at him worriedly
"I look crazy when I talk to myself, huh?" Blake asked
"Of course, not… well… sometimes but it's okay" I purred
Then, Blake laid down on his bed and tried to sleep, I don't blame him, it's kinda late now
Unfortunately, Blake couldn't fell asleep, normally it takes him five minutes to fall asleep but after an hour he was still awake, and yes I stayed awake all that time just in case
The next morning after a rough night, we all went to the Great Hall for Alvin's trial
"Alvin the Treacherous, you are here by charged with the following crimes: Treachery, Attempted Treachery, Premeditated treachery, conspiracy to commit treachery and… well, your get the idea" Gobber said, so all of the Vikings shouted angrily at Alvin
"Settle down, everyone!" Stoick said, so everyone calmed down "Alvin the Treacherous, you will be remanded in our jail until a proper sentence can be handed down"
"Is this how you treat a man who saved a valuable life?" Alvin asked
"Valuable?" Tuffnut asked
"Snotlout?" Ruffnut asked
"Since when Snotlout's life is valuable?" Barf asked but Belch hit him
"Hey, we're still talking about a life, you know?" he scolded
"He's obviously planning something if he's willing to safe someone's life" Blake said angrily
"Indeed. You didn't do this for Snotlout, you did it for yourself" Stoick said
"Can I shoot him a lightning now? I'd really like to shot him a lightning" I asked
"Not interested" Stoick said as some Vikings took Alvin away "That's it, everyone, go home"
Then, Astrid and Fishlegs ran towards Hiccup and Blake
"Guys, Snotlout just woke up and apparently Alvin wasn't the only big nasty creature on that island" Astrid said
"The Screaming Death, it's closing in on Berk" Fishlegs said
"That's just fantastic news, come one" Hiccup said
"You go… I… I've got a lot to think about" Blake said as he walked away
We quickly returned to the forge and the first thing Blake did was picking up a hammer
"What are you going to do with that?" I asked
Blake didn't say anything and just continued with his work, I quickly realized what was happening, he was making a weapon and in order to make one you have to bang it with a hammer
I didn't interfere and let him be but I should've done something because that weapon he made quickly became into two, those two in four, those four in eight and before I noticed, he already had a pile full of weapons
It's already evening and he hasn't stopped
"Blake, are you here?" a voice asked, it was Hiccup who was entering the academy with Toothless
"Yeah, I'm here" Blake said as he made an axe
"What are you doing?" Hiccup asked
"Taking away my frustration" Blake said as he dived the axe in a barrel full of water
"Uh… for how long he's been like this?" Toothless asked
"Since we returned from Alvin's trial" I answered
"Hey, Astrid told me Alvin wants to see us" Hiccup said
"I won't go" Blake said without hesitation as he sharpened the axe "And you shouldn't go either, one thing I know about that man is that as long as you're useful for him, he'll try to stay in your good side"
"I know, but I want to listen what he has to say" Hiccup said
"Honestly, I'd like to hear what he has to say too" Toothless said
"Sometimes I don't understand you, Toothless" I said
"Hiccup are you serious?! You know you can't trust anything he says!" Blake yelled "Sorry… it's just that… I… I don't know what's wrong with me… I'm angry, I'm frustrated… I don't know what I'm feeling anymore"
"Don't worry, I understand" Hiccup said before Blake threw the axe to a pile of weapons he made
"I'll be in my room if you need me… I thought banging stuff with a hammer would help me but it didn't… I'll see you later" Blake said before walking away
I was about to follow him but I didn't do it, so he could rest but I also started to feel a little hungry and Blake hasn't eaten anything either
Luckily, Blake gave me some fish this morning but I didn't eat it all, so there's a few left
I ate some of it and took one with me. Then, I entered Blake's room just to find him lying on his bed as he looked at the ceiling but he still noticed me enter
"Thunder, what do you have in your mouth?" he asked as he stood up
I just dropped the fish on the bed and gently pushed it with my head towards my rider who was confused
"Oh… I forgot to feed you, didn't I?" Blake asked
"At least I've eaten something, you haven't" I said as pushed the fish towards him once again
This time, Blake got the message and took the fish
"Thank you, Thunder, I can always count on you" Blake said as he gave scratched my chin as a reward making me purr
Then, after cooking and eating the fish, Blake and I returned to his room in order to sleep but someone knocked on the door, so Blake opened the door and found himself face to face with Hiccup
"Hiccup, is something wrong?" Blake said as he walked out of his room
"I just returned from talking with Alvin and he said he wanted to change" Hiccup said
"What?!" I asked
"I didn't believe it either" Toothless said
"What?! please tell me you didn't believe him!" Blake said as he grabbed Hiccup by the shoulders
"Of course I didn't believe him… but… he really sounded like he's sorry for everything" Hiccup said
That really took Blake by surprise, so he began to walk away
"Thunder, come here, please" Blake said, so I followed him
"Where are you going?" Hiccup asked
"I'm going to have a word with Alvin… even though it could be another of his tricks… him changing is something I really need to hear by myself" Blake said as he got on my back
"Wait, before you go… did Alvin ever told you why did he got casted out?" Hiccup asked
Blake thought for a moment before talking "Well… I don't think he ever told me how it happened… I'm pretty sure I never asked him and if I did my amnesia must have made me forget it" Blake said before I flew off
"Alvin wanting to change, yeah sure" Blake muttered angrily
"We'll get to the bottom of this, don't worry" I said looking back at him
"It's okay, Thunder… I'll be fine" Blake said as he gave me some head pats
We quickly arrived at the jail and entered, we walked towards Alvin's cell but I chose to stay out of his sight just in case he tried something
"So you really came, son. I was starting to think you wouldn't" Alvin said
"Don't call me that, you disowned me, so I'm not your son anymore" Blake said
"That was a mistake, I know that now" Alvin said
"Oh really? You needed to almost get killed by a Skrill's lighting blast to realize" Blake said angrily "You're really the father of the year"
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised he was able to survive a lightning blast from my brother
"Speaking of which, where's that Skrill of yours? I thought he never left your side" Alvin said, so I revealed myself
"I'm right here, and don't even think in escaping!" I growled him
"Easy there, Thunder. don't worry, if he tries something I'll let you shot him a lightning" Blake said as he placed his hand on my head
"Huh, you have really tamed that dragon to obey you, I'm impressed" Alvin said
"Just tell me why you wanted to see me and Hiccup earlier" Blake demanded
"Listen, I've made a lot of mistakes but after everything that happened… I feel like I have the chance to make things right" Alvin said "And maybe we'll be able to be father and son again"
"You're lying!" Blake said as he slammed his fist against a wall "Are you seriously expecting me to believe that? I can see right through you… you're just a grumpy man who only cares about himself"
"You don't have a reason to believe me, but I'm still trying my best" Alvin said
"Why do I find that hard to believe?" I muttered angrily
"It doesn't look like it" Blake said before letting escape a small cold laughter "Can you seriously be standing there and tell me that you want to be my father again? Do you have the slightest idea of what I went through for your fault?"
Alvin didn't say anything, he just looked down
"That's what I thought, let me give you the idea" Blake said angrily "After I began to get some of my memories back… a second personality woke up in me… I got so many nightmares about it that I lost the count of how many of them I had"
"You're right, there's no way I'll understand what you've been through… but please… let me make it up to you… son" Alvin said
"You already got your chance… when you kidnaped me and made me think my life here was a dream… for a moment… I thought you cared for me… but I heard you talking with Savage… that's when I realized you'll never care for me" Blake said as he dropped some tears but he cleaned them
"Blake, calm down, it's okay" I said trying to comfort him a little
"Is it true what Hiccup said? You're trying to change?" Blake asked
"It's true, like I said, I now have to chance to make things right" Alvin said, so Blake began to laugh… but it was a sad laughter
"You know… a few months ago… I would've given anything to hear you say that… but now… that doesn't mean anything for me" Blake said as he cleaned his tears once again "You know… I don't have any memories of my mother… but I'm sure that if she could see you now… she'd be really disappointed"
Suddenly a horn was heard
"What's that?" Alvin asked
"The alarm" Blake said just before Astrid entered
"Blake, there you are" Astrid said
"Astrid, what's going on?" Blake asked
"It's Dagur, he's been spotted by the academy and the dragons are in trouble" Astrid explained
"What?! let's go right away!" Blake said as he was about to ran off
"Wait, son, I can help!" Alvin yelled "Dagur hasn't come alone you need me!"
"In your dreams!" Blake yelled back
Minutes later we were flying towards the academy, we also had to make a quick stop at the forge, so Blake could get his spear
We also encountered Fishles, Meatlug, Hiccup and Toothless in our way, so we all arrived at the same time
The first thing we found when we arrived was that, Barf, Belch, Hookfang and Stormfly were attacking each other in the academy
"Dragon root!" Hiccup gasped when he saw something in the middle of the academy. Well, at least we know why they're attacking each other. Also, the other riders were outside
"Dagur put dragon root in the arena, so the dragons will attack each other" Hiccup said as we landed
"What can we do?" Blake asked
"Fishlegs, this is all to you. Toothless and Thunder can't go in there because they'll be affected by the root, you have to fly in and get that root out of there while the others distract their dragons" Hiccup said
"Don't remind me" I said
"Yeah… being affected by the dragon root it's not fun" Toothless said
"You hear that girl? It's up to you and me" Fishlegs said looking at Meatlug
"I'll try my best" Meatlug said
Hiccup opened the gate and the teens entered the academy in order to stop their dragons
"Stormfly, stop!" Astrid yelled jumping in front of her dragon
Stormfly did stop but she shot a stream of fire. Luckily, Astrid dodged it
Snotlout was also having some trouble with Hookfang, he was being chased by him creating a trail of fire in the process
"This was a bad idea!" Snotlout yelled
The twins also had to run away from Barf and Belch because they were trying to hit them with their gas explosions
Fishlegs and Meatlug took advantage that the dragons were distracted to enter the academy
"Got it!" Fishlegs yelled when Meatlug grabbed the dragon root and fly towards the exit "Come on, girl, we're going to make it!"
"I'm flying as fast as I can!" Meatlug said
Suddenly the gate slammed shut in their faces locking them in the academy, two Berserkers were the ones who did it, since they began to laugh, so Toothless and I landed behind them
"Open that door right now or-" Hiccup began before getting interrupted by a voice
"Or what?" the voice asked, it was Dagur who had some Berserkers pointing their crossbows at us
"What I always wanted, the Night Fury" Dagur said before looking at me "And that Skrill, you're not his master anymore, I'm his master now, so hand them over and we'll leave peacefully, your dragons or your friends, your choice"
"We're not your property, Dagur!" Toothless growled
"Get out of here before we chop you head off!" I growled
Hiccup and Blake looked at each other not sure of what to do before looking inside of the academy where the other riders were having a rough time
"Can't keep this up much longer" Fishlegs said
"We really need some help here!" Meatlug said
"Neither can we" Astrid said
"So… what's your answer?" Dagur said
"The answer it we run you through and open the gate ourselves" a voice said, it was Stoick who arrived with some of Berk's Vikings ready to attack
"It looks like the reinforcements arrived" Toothless said
"And just in time" I said
Berk's Vikings and the Berserkers gave a war cry and charged at each other and began to fight, Hiccup and Blake looked relieved but they quickly realized that some Berserkers fired their crossbows at us
Hiccup blocked the arrows with his shield but Blake and I had to jump out of the way
Unfortunately, Blake fell from my back thanks to the sudden move, and to make things worse, we got surrounded by Berserkers
"Back off!" I roared as I shot a lightning blast at them but they dodged it, I was about to shot them another lightning blast at them but a bola wrapped itself around my snout just before one wrapped around my body, not allowing me to move, so I fell
Blake had no option but to fight five Berserkers at the same time
Then, Blake got pushed back on the ground, he tried to grab his spear and get up but one Berserker steeped on it and other was about to stab Blake who couldn't do anything else but to protect himself with his arms
"Blake, no!" I yelled trying to release myself but someone blocked the attack… it was Alvin! How did he get out of jail?!
"Stay away… FROM MY SON!" Alvin yelled furiously as he kicked the Berserker away
The other four Berserkers charged at Alvin but he grabbed one of them by the shoulder and threw him into another Berserker, he also punched another Berserker in the gut and the last one ran off completely afraid
"Are you okay, son?" Alvin asked as he offered his hand to Blake who pushed it away and got up
"I'm not… your… son" Blake panted in order to take some breath before trying to release me
After a few more minutes of fighting, some of the Berserkers began to retreat, allowing Blake and me to ether the academy after Fishlegs and Meatlug took the dragon root away
All of the other dragons already calmed down and were hugging their riders, even Hookfang was hugging Snotlout
"Thanks Thor it's over" Blake groaned in pain as he massaged his shoulder
"Are you okay?" Hiccup asked
"Yeah… nothing a good night sleep can't fix" Blake said
"And are you good, Thunder?" Toothless asked
"Yeah, I'm fine… a bit hurt but I'm fine" I said
"Hiccup!" Gobber yelled, so we flew outside of the academy and found Dagur and Savage holding Stoick hostage
"Dad!" Hiccup yelled
"Let him go right now!" Toothless growled
"Nobody, make a move" Dagur demanded
"Dagur!" Alvin said angrily
"We'll be leaving now and if I see one dragon following us with rider or not, you're going to be looking for a new chief" Dagur laughed before walking away "We'll be in touch, bye"
Hiccup quickly looked at the other riders "Okay, we'll take the south pass, cut them off at the beach and smash their boats before they-" Hiccup began
"Don't do it, boy. You back a man like that into a corner you may not like the outcome" Alvin interrupted
"But I have to save my father!" Hiccup said
"Dagur is not going to hurt your father… yet. Stoick is not what he wants" Alvin said
"I can't believe I'm going to say this but… he's right" Blake said
"Blake, are you serious?" Hiccup asked
"Did you hit your head during the fight?!" I asked
"You of everyone want me to trust Alvin?!" Hiccup asked
"If there's one thing Alvin knows, it's treachery" Gobber said
Later that night when Blake and I returned to the forge, the first thing he did was pulling out a map for Outcast Island
"Okay… I need to find a way to enter Outcast Island without being noticed but where?" Blake asked
"I know you'll be able to find one, don't worry" I said as I nudged Blake
"You should go to sleep, Thunder… this is going to take me a while" he said, so I laid down next to him
"I can wait" I said
Indeed. It took him a while, for hours he placed an X over the map, meaning that way to enter Outcast Island couldn't be used
Eventually I had to stop him from continuing by gently pushing him away or getting in his way, so he got the message and got some sleep and I did too
The next morning, there was a town meeting at the Great Hall, so we went and meet Hiccup and Astrid outside
When we entered, the first thing we found was that all of Berk's Vikings were yelling at Gobber
"What is this?! Tell us the truth!" Ruffnut yelled
"Yeah!" Tuffnut yelled
"Enough of this!" Ruffnut yelled
"What is going on?" Hiccup asked
"I have no idea, but everyone's shouting and I'm totally into that!" Tuffnut yelled
"Next time at least know why everyone's yelling" Blake said with a yawn
"Are you okay? You've yawned a lot in just a few minutes" Astrid said
"I'm fine, I just didn't sleep much because I was trying to find a way to safely enter Outcast Island" Blake said
"And were you able to find one?" Hiccup asked
"Not yet, but there's still some spots I need to check" Blake said just as Gobber made his way through the crowd of Vikings
"Everyone settle down, Hiccup will answer all your questions!" Gobber said as he took Hiccup to the front
"Why him?!" Snotlout yelled
"He's the acting chief, that's why" Gobber explained
"What are we going to do?!" a Viking immediately asked
"Where's Stoick?!" another Viking asked
"When can we start yelling again?!" Tuffnut asked, so the crowd began to yell and shake their fists
"Good questions… mostly" Hiccup said glaring slightly at Tuffnut "Uh… as you all know Berk is no stranger to hard times, this the best thing is to-"
"Take arms!" a Viking interrupted
"Arm the catapults!" another yelled
Snotlout walked to the front and shoved Hiccup away "Why don't you step aside and watch a real chief in action" Snotlout said before snapping his fingers "Hookfang?"
Hookfang jumped behind his rider and ignited himself up, so all of the Vikings stopped yelling
"That's better" Snotlout said as he turned around but he didn't notice his pants were on fire "Now, how it's going to go-"
"You are in fire, Snotlout!" Tuffnut yelled before he and all of the Vikings laughed
Snotlout looked behind and realized it was true, so he began to run around as he screamed until Gobber grabbed him and dumped him in a bucket of water
"Okay, that was a good way to calm things a bit" Blake chuckled
"Totally" Astrid agreed
"Good, so… where were we?" Hiccup asked facing back at the crowd of Vikings
"You were about to tell them that they have nothing to worry about" Astrid said
Hiccup just rolled his eyes knowing that it wasn't true but he didn't have a choice either
"Alright, people, you have nothing to worry about, everything is under control" Hiccup said
There was a moment of silence but the Vikings began to yell and shake their fists once again
"That went much better in my head" Astrid said
"Well, it also could've gone a lot worse" Blake said
Later that day, Blake, Gobber and I went to Hiccup's house, Blake wasn't able to find a safe way to enter Outcast Island, so we must tell him
"Blake, were you able to find a safe way to enter Outcast Island?" Hiccup asked as soon as we entered
"Sorry, but I couldn't" Blake said as he walked towards the table and unwrapping the map of Outcast Island
"All of the safe spots I know from where we could enter, involve flying above the island and Dagur is obviously expecting us to fly there"
"What should I do now? I need to find a way to safe my father and do all the chiefing while he's gone" Hiccup sighed
"You know, Hiccup, there's nothing easy about chiefing. You should have seen Stoick when he first took over, he was like a new born yak trying to find his feet" Gobber said tossing one fish to Toothless and one fish to me
"I find that hard to believe" Hiccup said
"Me too" Toothless said
"It's true. In fact, there were some in this town that didn't think he had it in him… like Alvin for example" Gobber said
"Hiccup, I've known you for a long time now and I've seen you grow in all that time" Blake said placing a hand on Hiccup's shoulder "You passed from being someone who's dream was to kill a dragon to be the first and best dragon rider and I know you have what it takes to be chief"
"Sometimes you just have to deal with the Alvins and Snotlouts of the world" Gobber said
"I feel like that's all I do" Hiccup said
"They were best friends, you know?" Gobber said
"Who?" Hiccup asked
"Alvin and Stoick, they were inseparable since birth, just like you two now" Gobber said
"What?!" Toothless and I asked, we expected anything but that
"That's… kind of… uh… scary" Blake said rubbing the back of his head
"Don't worry, I know the story won't repeat itself with you, Blake" Gobber said
"I don't know what would happen if Blake betrays Hiccup when he's chief" Toothless said
"Me neither… let's not think about it okay?" I said
"Hiccup!" a voice yelled, it was Fishlegs who busted in and panted for breath "Screaming… coming"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, take a breath there, Fishlegs" Hiccup said
"I was out on patrol with Meatlug… the Screaming Death… we saw it" Fishlegs said "It's eating its way to Berk!"
They quickly ran outside to see if the Screaming Death was close with Toothless and me following them
"How much time to we have?" Hiccup said
"Not much, it was just off Dragon Island when we saw it" Fishlegs said
Suddenly, Astrid landed next to them and got off Stormfly's back
"This came for you, it's from Dagur" she said as she gave Hiccup a scroll
"And it just keeps coming" Hiccup said
"Yeah, this day gets better at every second" Blake said sarcastically
"Well, what does it say?" Astrid asked
"We have until tonight to deliver Toothless and Thunder or my father will…" Hiccup stopped and threw the scroll on the ground
"Great, that's just what we needed" Toothless said sarcastically
"What else happened?" Stormfly asked
"Fishlegs said he and Meatlug saw the Screaming Death making his way towards here" I said
"It's a trap, you know that" Astrid said "If we fly anywhere near Outcast Island-"
"Listen, you guys get Snotlout and the twins, tell them to be ready for the Screaming Death" Hiccup interrupted
"What about your father?" Astrid asked
"Blake and I will handle that" Hiccup said
Then, we went to the academy where Alvin was locked up in a pen, we couldn't place him back at the jail since he was able to escape
"So, how did the town meeting go?" Alvin asked looking at Hiccup "Sounds like you had them in the palm of your hand"
"Never mind that, Alvin" Hiccup said as he opened the door, so Alvin walked out of it
"Well, this is awkward… do I stay? Do I go?" he asked
"Both" Hiccup said confusing Alvin "You're going to show us a way into Outcast Island, we're going there, Alvin, and we're going to bring my father home"
Alvin just smiled but he stopped when Blake pointed his spear at him
"However, I'm still warning you, if you give me a reason to suspect that you'll betray us you won't have to worry about making things right because I'll make sure your life ends in that moment, got it?" Blake asked angrily
"Got it" Alvin said with a sigh
"I'm going to keep an eye on you, Alvin" I growled
After a few minutes, we were in our way to Outcast Island
Alvin had to ride Toothless with Hiccup, so I flew behind them to keep an eye on Alvin
"Thunder… if Alvin tries something, I want you to shot him a lightning" Blake said
"Ha, with pleasure" I said
After a few minutes of flying, we were starting to get close to Outcast Island, and I also saw how Toothless hit Alvin with his wings
I also wanted to hurt Alvin, so I began to get ready to shot him a lightning blast
"Thunder!" Blake scolded me
"Fine, I won't shoot him a lightning" I grunted angrily
Then, Outcast Island appeared in front of us but neither Alvin or Hiccup seemed to noticed
"Hey, in case you haven't noticed, we're getting close to Outcast Island" Blake said as we flew next to them
"Let's get on with it" Alvin said
We flew closer to the island, but Hiccup and Blake stopped us
"Whoa, we can't just fly over the island, Alvin, they're expecting us" Hiccup said
"I'm aware of that" Alvin said
"And what's your plan? I already tried to find a safe way to enter" Blake said
"We're not going over the island, we're flying under it. Hold your breath" Alvin said before pressing down the stirrup that controlled Toothless' tail fin
"What are you doing?!" Hiccup asked
"Don't do that!" Toothless yelled as he tried to control his flight
"Dive, dragon, dive!" Alvin yelled
"Thunder, do it, now" Blake ordered, so I happily shot a lighting blast at Alvin who was able to doge it
Then, Hiccup was able to open the tail fin, allowing Toothless to have control over his flight
"Do that again and I'll rip off your leg!" Toothless said angrily
"What do you think you're doing?" Blake asked angrily
"I thought you were going to trust me" Alvin said "It's the moment of truth"
"Let's do it" Hiccup said
"What?!" Blake and I asked in shock
"I guess we don't have a choice" Toothless sighed before diving into the sea
I might dislike water a lot but I'm not going to leave Alvin with Hiccup and Toothless, so I followed them
When we were all in the water Alvin pointed to an underwater cave, so we swam into it and entered some kind of cavern
"That tunnel will take us directly to the heart of the island" Alvin said as we climbed out of the water
"Ugh, is this really the only way?" I asked as I shook trying to get rid of the water
"How do you know Dagur hasn't found this tunnel?" Hiccup asked
"Because I have a man on the inside who assures me that's it clean" Alvin said
"I'm surprised I never knew about this place" Blake said
"You seriously don't remember it, do you?" Alvin asked "I took you here for the first time when you were five"
"Really?" Blake asked
"Yeah, when I first started to train you, you remember it?" Alvin asked
"Sorry, what you're saying doesn't bring me anything back" Blake said, so Alvin sighed and began to walk into the tunnel
"Toothless, you think this is a good idea?" I asked
"Not really, but like I said: we don't have a choice" Toothless whispered
"I guess you're right, but don't let your guard down, we don't know what could be in here" I warned
"Don't worry, I'm not planning to" Toothless said
After a few minutes, we arrived in the dragon dungeon where Mildew was feeding a Whispering Death
"Mildew, this traitor is your man on the inside?" Hiccup asked
Then, Fungus saw Toothless and me, so he hid behind Mildew who turned around
"Well, he's always been faith to me" Alvin said
"That explains a lot" Blake said
"Mildew, have to say I never thought I see the day when you'll be playing nanny to a nursery of dragons" Hiccup said
"And I never thought I'd see you again" Toothless said
"An interesting torn of advents to say the least" Mildew said just before the Whispering Death grabbed his staff, so he tried to pull it out of his mouth
Hiccup noticed that in another cage a Whispering Death was sleeping around eggs
"So, this is where all those Whispering Death eggs you planted came from" Hiccup said
"His idea and not a very good one" Alvin said gesturing to Mildew
"This Whispering Death laid every single one of the eggs?" Blake asked
"Each of them" Mildew said
"And that includes a large red egg?" Hiccup asked
"Odd that one, I was wondering about. How did it turn out?" Mildew asked
"In a giant dragon that is able to eat islands in a blink" Blake said as Hiccup began to write something and pulling a Terrible Terror out of Toothless' saddle bag
"What are you doing?" Alvin asked as Hiccup tied the note to the Terrible Terror's leg
"Sending a message home" Hiccup explained "That red egg turned out to be a Screaming Death, it's been destroying whole islands looking for something and now it's heading to Berk"
"Wait… Thunder… you're thinking what I'm thinking?" Toothless asked
"I think so… that Whispering Death is the Screaming Death's mother!" I said
"And how are we going to save Stoick?" Blake asked
"Don't worry, son, I got that covered, here's the plan" Alvin began
"Uh… no offence there, Alvin, but your plans… are terrible" Hiccup said "Here's what we need to do"
Well… even though I don't really like Hiccup's plan, it's definitely better than anything Alvin came up with
The plan is this: Hiccup, Blake, Toothless and me will go into the arena where Stoick is locked up. It's more than obvious that we're going to get captured but while all of that happened, Alvin and Mildew will release all of the Whispering Death in the dungeon
That way when the other riders lure the Screaming Death here, they'll be able to help us with the Berserkers while the Screaming Death leaves the island when he's reunited with his mother
It's kind of complex and I'd say some things depend on our luck but it's still the best we have
Toothless and I with our riders were able to sneak our way into the arena, getting rid of the guards in the process
When we were in, Blake and Hiccup got off our backs and began to look for Stoick
Suddenly, Hiccup blocked a bola with his shield that was about to hit Toothless
Another bola was thrown but Blake deflected it with his spear
More and more bolas went flying towards them, Hiccup blocked them with his shield and Blake either deflected them or dodged them. However, Toothless and I had to dodge them all around the arena
"Toothless, Thunder! Watch out!" Hiccup warned
"Why?" I asked just before Toothless pushed me
I was a bit stunned but I quickly realized Toothless was inside a cage
"Toothless!" I said as I ran towards him
"Thunder, don't get close!" Toothless warned just before another cage fell on top of me, trapping me inside
And to make things worse, Hiccup and Blake were quickly surrounded by Berserkers and were captured
"Welcome back to Outcast Island, boys" Savege said as he walked towards them just before Dagur appeared and walked towards me and Toothless
"You two are finally mine… all mine" Dagur said before looking at Toothless "First thing, we're going to change that name"
"Don't touch me!" Toothless said as he tried to bit Dagur's hand when he tried to touch him
"It makes no sense" Dagur continued
"Leave him alone, Dagur!" Hiccup yelled as he tried to break free
"What was this dragon's name again?" Dagur asked looking at Blake as he gestured at me
"His name is Thunder, if you want, he can show you why I named him like that" Blake said
"LET THEM GO RIGHT NOW!" I roared
"I like it!" Dagur said before pointing his sword at Toothless "You'll learn to respect me, dragon… or I'll wear you like hat"
"Not even in your dreams" Toothless said
Then, Dagur pointed his sword at me "As for you… I've already seen how easy it is to break you when your rider it's not around to tell you what to do"
"Hey, I was going through a hard moment then!" I growled
Dagur turned around "Put them with Stoick, we'll dispose of them later" he ordered, so the Berserkers dragged Hiccup and Blake towards the cages
They left Toothless and me there without nothing to do
"Well, it looks like it's all going according to the plan" Toothless said
"I just hope Alvin and Mildew do their part" Thunder said
"Hey… just in case we don't make it… thank you for being my best dragon friend" Toothless said
"Quit being so dramatic, Toothless, we're going to make it out alive" I said "But… still… thank you for being my best dragon friend too"
After a while, some Berserkers put us some muzzles to me and Toothless, Dagur also returned with Stoick, our riders and some Outcasts
Even from my cage, I saw how Stoick was talking with Hiccup and Blake but I wasn't able to listen
"I'd just like to watch it unfold if it all the same to you" Hiccup said
"I have big plans for you, Mr. Night Fury" Dagur said looking at Toothless "You'll be the new symbol of the Berserkers along with the Skrill, every corner of the archipelago will know and fear you two"
Suddenly, the Outcast that was standing next to Hiccup disappeared into the ground but Dagur was so lost in his monologue that he didn't notice
"Of course, we need to chance the sails, shields and I'll need a new belt…. We'll worry about that after we've burned Berk to the ground" Dagur said
Then, another Outcast disappeared into the ground but once again, Dagur didn't notice a thing
"Hey, how about 'Deathkiller'?" Dagur asked as he turned around just as two more Outcasts disappeared behind him
"You like that name, DeathKiller?" Dagur asked as he looked at Toothless
"No way" he growled as an answer
"No? oh well, we'll keep brain storming. I mean, there's got to be 'death' in it right?" Dagur said
Suddenly, a Whispering Death popped out of the ground and shot up, destroying the safety cage of the arena as more Whispering Deaths popped out of the ground
The arena's floor began to crumble when the Whispering Death dived down into the ground
It also had Alvin and Mildew holding onto its tail, so when they were close enough, Alvin thew Mildew towards Toothless' cage
He quickly let Toothless out and removed the nuzzle before doing the same with me
Toothless and I quickly put ourselves back-to-back to protect each other and attacking every Outcast and Berserker in sight until we saw our riders
"Come on, Toothless!" Hiccup yelled
"Let's show them what we're made of, Thunder!" Blake yelled
We were about to run towards their riders but the floor caved in, so Toothless, Hiccup and Blake fell in
"Blake, Toothless, Hiccup!" I yelled
Luckily, Blake reacted fast and nailed his spear to the wall preventing himself to fall. However, he wasn't able to save Hiccup
"Toothless!" Hiccup yelled
Then, the safety cage fell on top of them, allowing Hiccup to grab on to it and avoid fallen into a canyon
I quickly flew down and helped my rider, it was easy, so we flew above the canyon
"Hiccup!" Blake yelled
"I'm fine!" Hiccup yelled back "Go and help my dad and Alvin!"
"Alright, but we'll be back!" Blake said
It wasn't hard to find Stoick and Alvin, they were barely holding to the edge, so we quickly landed and helped Stoick up
I also had to get rid of an Outcast by throwing him into the canyon
Unfortunately, the ground began to fall in with Alvin, Stoick wasn't able to grab his hand on time, so Blake and I dived in and grabbed him by the shoulders
"We've got you" Blake said as I flew back to the surface
"I can't believe I just did that" I said as I placed Alvin on the ground before landing but some Berserkers began to charge at us
"Thunder, lightning blast!" Blake ordered as he threw his spear at the Berserkers
I quickly shot a lightning blast at the spear, electrifying it. Then, the electricity hit some of the Berserkers and left them unconscious, the ones that weren't hit ran away
"Ha, that's my boy!" Alvin said proudly as he placed his arm around Blake's shoulders who couldn't help but to smile
Then, Blake and I flew back where Hiccup was in order to help him
"Hiccup, I'm back" Blake said before Hiccup got on my back
"We need to help Toothless, he's with Dagur and reached his shot limit" Hiccup said pointing down
Some Berserkers and Outcasts charged at Toothless but a lightning blast from me was enough to knock them off their feet
"Toothless" Hiccup said as I landed but the Berserkers and Outcast quickly got up and surrounded us
"Get me my Night Fury and my Skrill!" Dagur ordered
The Outcasts and Berserkers charged at Toothless and me but we waked them away with our tails and I also shot them two lighting blasts
But somehow Dagur managed to get on Toothless' back who tried to get him off
When I saw this, he tried to shot another lighting blast but nothing came out, he already reached his show limit
"Great, just what I needed" I muttered angrily
"Come on already" Dagur said as he tried to get Toothless under control
"Get off me!" Toothless said as he managed to throw Dagur off his back in order to reunite with us
"We're running out of options, Hiccup" Blake said as he got ready to fight
"I also reached my shot limit!" I said
Then, a wall of gas stopped and forced the Berserkers and Outcasts retreated before it got ignited
We looked up and saw how the other riders except for Snotlout arrived
"We are so glad to see you guys" Hiccup said as Astrid flew down to us
"Don't thank us yet, things are about to get a lot crazier" she said
"Fishlegs and Meatlug are on their way towards here with the Screaming Death" Stormfly said
"And how did you get him to follow them?" I asked
"Dragon root, that's all it took" Stormfly explained
Crazier than this? It's hard to believe" Blake said before we flew out of the canyon
When we were out, we saw Fishlegs and Meatlug being followed by the Screaming Death
Then, one of the Whispering Deaths stopped attacking everything in sight and looked at the Screaming Death, meaning that she was his mother
"They've seen each other, all we have to do now is to get them together" Hiccup said
"Then what?" Astrid asked as Stormfly shot a stream of fire at some Outcasts
"I'm hoping it does what exactly what I think it should" Hiccup said
"And that would be?" Astrid asked
"Something good" Hiccup said
"Sorry, to interrupt but Fishlegs and Meatlug don't have much time" Blake said
"Right. Fishlegs, now!" Hiccup yelled, so Fishlegs dropped the dragon root
Then, Dagur and some Berserkers grabbed some ropes and looped them around the Screaming Death's mother not allowing her to fly
"Dagur no!" Hiccup said as he and the other teens landed in the canyon "You don't know what you're doing. Let that Whispering Death go before you destroy us all"
"What would I do that? Hello, I'm deranged" Dagur said
"Well, you can't argue with logic like that, right?" Tuffnut asked
The Screaming Death's mother roared as she tried to break free, making the Screaming Death roar angrily as it flew around the arena crushing it even more
"Back off, Hiccup. You know if I destroy her that thing will take us all out" Dagur said pointing a spear at the Screaming Death's mother
"He's right. Everyone, back off" Hiccup ordered
"Wise choice" Dagur said "Now, I might be interested in a trade"
"Never retreat! Never surrender!" a voice yelled, it was Snotlout who was riding Hookfang above us
"Snotlout?!" Hiccup yelled
"What is he doing here?" Toothless asked
Hookfang ignited himself up and shot a fireball straight at Dagur, so him and the Berserkers were sent back
The Screaming Death's mother was released and looked down at Hiccup who gave her a quick nod, so she flew out of the canyon followed by the rest of us
When they were together, the Screaming Death and his mother nuzzled each other happily and looked down at Hiccup and Toothless
The Screaming Death glared and flew towards them, making Hiccup a bit nervous
"THANKS!" The Screaming Death roared so loud that Hiccup almost fell from Toothless' back
"Uh… you're welcome" Hiccup said awkwardly
Later that evening, Stoick and Alvin were at the edge of a cliff looking out at the sea, not too far away, Hiccup and Blake, Toothless and I were watching them
They talked for a moment before shaking their hands but Alvin looked at Blake for a moment
He got off my back and walked towards Alvin but I began to follow him
"It's okay, Thunder, we're just going to talk" Blake said as he gave me some head pats, so I stayed on my place, but this time I was close enough to listen
"Blake… I know I haven't been the best father… in fact, if I were you, I'd hate me too" Alvin said
"I… I don't hate you… that's not the problem… it never was" Blake said
"So, what is it then?" Alvin asked
"That day… after I got hit in the head… you sent me towards Berk without thinking it twice… you didn't even know if I had actually lost my memory or if I would even survive until I got there… you didn't even know if I would even arrive to Berk… it was like you wanted to get rid of me" Blake said
Some tears began to appear in Blake's eyes but this time he didn't cleaned them and continued
"And all for what? for a war I didn't ask to be part off" Blake said "Just put yourself in my shoes… you arrive at a strange place with strange people… but they welcome you to their island with the open arms… then… a man claiming to be your father… attacks the place you called home for months… you have no idea how much I cried that day"
"I was blinded by my rage… I shouldn't have done that to you, son… I made you go suffer a lot because of my selfish desire of revenge" Alvin said as he placed a hand on Blake's shoulder
"A part of me… is really mad at you… and I don't think it'll change for a while" Blake said with some sobs
"I always cared for you, son… when I kidnapped you… in my way back… I was happy… because I'd finally have my son back" Alvin said "There were some mornings when I woke up, I looked for you in your room even though I already know you weren't there"
"So… you really cared after all? You… you're not lying, are you?" Blake asked
"Why should I? I have no reason to lie, especially to you" Alvin said "Listen… if you give me the chance, we can start from zero, we can be father and son again. How does it sound?"
"I want to stay here… I really want to… you've proven me that you're not the man how'd sacrifice a life without thinking" Blake said "But… I can't… there's still a lot things I don't remember about this place… I don't think I'm ready"
"Don't worry, it doesn't matter how long it takes you to be ready, I'll be waiting for you right here and my door will always be open for you, son" Alvin said
When he heard those words, Blake couldn't help but to hug Alvin who was taken a bit off guard but still returned the hug full of fatherly love
"Thank you… father" Blake said
Then, Blake broke the hug, cleaned his tears and walked back with Hiccup and Stoick who were ready to return to Berk
"Are you okay?" Hiccup asked as Blake got on my back
"Yeah… I just want to go back to Berk" Blake said before we flew off
We quickly returned to Berk and after dealing with another Snotlout problem, Blake and I returned to the forge
"Gods, what a day" Blake said as he got off my back
"Yeah, I feel like I could sleep for a week" I said as I stretched a bit but then Blake began to give me a scratch behind my crown of spines
"You did good, Thunder. You're a good boy" Blake said
Well, I'm not feeling itchy but if this is my reward I'm not going to complain, it feels really good, so I couldn't help but to purr in pleasure
After a minute the scratch finished, I happily nuzzled Blake who hugged me back
Then, he went to get some deserved rest, I'm not feeling tired, so I went to walk around the island
It's a little weird, now we don't have enemies… Alvin has finally placed his grudge aside, so he doesn't have a reason to attack Berk
Dagur has been locked up at Outcast Island, so we won't hear anything from him or the Berserkers for a long time
And the Screaming Death was reunited with his mother, so he doesn't have a reason to destroy the island
The peace around here is similar to the one after defeating the queen
"Thunder" a voice called, it's Stormfly
"Hey, Stormfly, I thought you and Astrid were at the academy" I said
"We were, we just returned in fact" Stormfly said "What about you, I thought you were with Blake"
"I was but he went to sleep, he hasn't slept properly for a while now" I said "Anyway, what brings you here?"
"I just wanted to go for a walk, a lot has changed in just a few hours" Stormfly said
"I know, but if you ask me… I'd say this is not over" I said "Maybe another adventure is waiting for us"
"I'll never understand where do you get those ideas" Stormfly said with a small laugh
"Even I don't know, but I guess we'll have to wait and see" I said as the sun began to set
I wonder what will our next adventure will be… as long as it allows me to go with my friends, I'll be fine
