"Together!" Chrom said.
He charged through the opening Robin and Cordelia had created for them, and Reflet followed closely behind.
"Gangrel!" Chrom shouted as they approached. "This is your last chance! Cease this madness at once! This war benefits no one!"
"Stop your braying, dog," Gangrel sneered as he wiped his jagged blade on the hem of a Ylissean soldier's tunic. "I've had quite enough of your whore sisters' preaching, and I won't hear it from you."
Reflet grit her teeth, suppressing her fury. Beside her, she saw a vein bulge on Chrom's neck. "I am sorry, Em," he murmured quietly enough that only Reflet could hear. "I tried."
Gangrel laughed and pointed his Levin sword at them, firing off a bolt of lightning. Thinking quickly, Reflet leapt forward and caught the bolt on her own Levin sword. The force of the magic pushed her back, and the smell of burnt hair assaulted her nostrils.
"Not today, scumbag!" Reflet said defiantly.
Gangrel scowled. "The traitorous bitch deigns to call me scum. How quaint."
"Wrong again," Chrom challenged. "Reflet and her brother have never called Plegia home! They are Ylissean in every way that matters, and both are worth leagues more than you could ever hope to be!"
Reflet wished that Chrom would choose a more appropriate time to sing her praises, but said nothing. Instead, she raised her blade, channelling her magic, and fired a bolt of lightning at the mad king.
Gangrel danced away, but in doing so, left an opening that Chrom wasted no time exploiting. He lunged forward and jabbed with Falchion. In an incredible display of dexterity, Gangrel angled his sword so that Falchion scraped along its edge, barely deflecting the blow. Electricity flashed, but Nagas fang resisted the current, and nothing happened. Chrom shifted his stance, and the blades slid past each other and locked hilts. Gangrel cackled and drew a dagger, but Reflet jumped forward, magic tome at the ready.
"Elwind!" She shouted, blasting the dagger out of the Plegian's hand. Gangrel growled, but he didn't take his eyes off Chrom. He tried to push back, but Chrom was stronger, and Chrom shoved the king, causing him to stumble. Reflet darted forward again, but her sword only sparked off of Gangrels.
"See now what your precious bonds accomplish!" Gangrel mocked. "They grant you no strength, no victory! You struggle in vain against me! I will have what I deserve!"
"You'll get what you deserve, all right!" Chrom shouted. The moment Gangrel had taken his eyes off Chrom to counter Reflet's attack, Chrom had leapt into the air. Only one with Chrom's incredible strength could have accomplished the maneuver. A shadow passed over them, and in a move reminiscent of what Chrom had executed against Marth at Arena Ferox, he spun forward end over end like a deadly yo-yo.
Gangrel had no time to dodge and possessed none of the strength Marth apparently did when she managed to match Chrom's attack. He raised his blade in an attempt to deflect the strike but cried out when it only barely deflected what would've been a killing blow. He staggered, clutching his eviscerated shoulder, and Reflet pressed forward, giving Chrom the chance to recover.
"You say our bonds mean nothing!" Reflet shouted, "But look at you now! Your army deserts you as we speak. The Exalts' words united the hearts of the people! This world has no room for anyone like you in it!"
Gangrel glared at her, and despite his arm hanging limply at his side, he raised his blade just in time, once again clashing with Reflet. It was all the time Chrom needed to regroup.
He appeared once more at Reflet's side, and Reflet executed a risky maneuver Frederick had taught her once. Locking her hilt with Gangrels, she leaned forward and twisted the sword with all her might. Gangrel cursed as his sword was forced from his hand, but there was nothing he could do.
Chrom sliced diagonally, cutting Gangrel from shoulder to hip. The man cried out and toppled over, clutching at his bleeding body. The fight was over.
"F-fool of...a prince…" Gangrel wheezed, glaring up at Chrom. "Your people care not for you... You are...alone... As every man lives and dies: ...alone…" and then his hands fell limp at his sides, and his eyes rolled back in his skull. The mad king was no more.
The sounds of fighting grew quieter around them as the nearest soldiers noticed Gangrels fall. Ylissean, Feroxi and Plegian soldiers alike lowered their weapons and stepped away from each other.
A Plegian wyvern rider sighed in relief. A Feroxi warrior let out a cheer, and a Ylissean mage raised her fist in the sky. Slowly, the other soldiers picked up the cheer of the Feroxi man, and it completely drowned the sounds of fighting elsewhere.
Reflet stared at Gangrel's body. For a man who had caused so much suffering, Reflet couldn't help but think he looked very sad.
Chrom placed a steadying hand on her shoulder. If it was for her benefit or his own, Reflet couldn't tell.
"We did it," he breathed, relief written clear as day on his face.
"We did it," Reflet agreed, and smiled back at her closest friend, heart thumping heavily in her chest. "It's over now."
