Fall prompt #1: Which is better: Hot chocolate or Apple cider?
"I just think that since winter is coming, sugary foods should be more...what's the word Janner uses a lot-"
"Prominent?"
"Yeah! Prominent. Because sugary foods are more...warm...you know?"
"Kalmar..."
Kal got on his knees in the castle kitchen. "Please Ma?"
Nia, who was standing over a stove, helping the kitchen crew prepare dinner, sighed. "Fine, but only a little bit of sugar."
Kalmar, even though he was fifteen, jumped up with joy.
Nia shook her head and smiled at her sons young innocence of wanting sugar.
Kalmar then proceeded to run out of the kitchen, only to, quite literally, knock onto Janner, causing both of them to fall down.
Sara, who was walking with Janner, burst out laughing.
"Kal! You might have watched where you're going." Janner said, irritated.
Kal shrugged. "Sorry, didn't see ya."
"Obviously," Sara laughed.
"Eh, it's fine," Janner said, standing up.
"Ah, Janner, Sara, you're just in time," Nia said from the doorway of the kitchen. "We're making some hot chocolate and apple cider and we need you to decide which is better."
"Hey! Why not me?" Kal asked, feeling dejected.
"Because," Nia started, "You would have said both were good and drank it all."
"Would not." Kal muttered under his breath.
Apparently Nia heard him because she laughed, then lead Janner and Sara into the kitchen.
"So, here's a cup of the cider," Nia handed them a glass filled with steaming hot cider, "and here's the hot chocolate," she handed over a cup that smelled very chocolatey.
Janner took a sip of the cider while Sara took a drink of the chocolate, then they switched glasses and tasted them.
"So, which is better?" Nia asked.
Janner said cider at the exact same time Sara said hot chocolate.
Nia laughed softly. "Well, that was fun to watch."
"Wait, but which do YOU think is better?" Janner asked.
Nia shrugged. "Which ever gets the most votes."
Janner sighed as Sara laughed.
"Alright, I think the cider is better."
"Well obviously you're WRONG because the hot chocolate is better."
"What? How could you think that?! It's to sweet."
"That's because you don't like a lot of sugar."
"Exactly!"
"While some of us do like sugar."
"Sara the other day you literally told be that sugar was unhealthy."
"...that was then, this is now."
"Nope."
"I still think that chocolate is better."
"And I still think cider is better."
"Wow, this is so funny to watch."
Both Janner and Sara turned to see Leeli standing with Artham in the doorway of the kitchen, laughing.
"Well, how about you guys vote on which you think is better?"
"I think tea is best." Leeli said.
"And I think anything that is caffeinated is best." Artham grinned.
Janner facepalmed while Sara sighed.
"Well, I guess they're both good." Janner muttered.
"Hey, at least we'll get both served as meal-times." Kal said as he walked into the kitchen.
"Wow it's like a Wingfeather family reunion in here." Sara laughed, watching as Nia came back into the kitchen with Arundelle behind her.
"Pretty much." Janner sighed.
"So, did you decide which is better?" Nia asked.
"Nope." Janner answered.
"Well, I think we should have neither served at dinner." Arundelle said.
All four teenagers, and Artham, turned to her and all said in unison, "WHAT?"
Arundelle laughed, then grinned. "Yeah! If you guys can't agree, we should just have water."
Everyone immediately started re-tasting the drinks while Nia and Arundelle silently laughed.
"We have talked about it and agreed that the hot chocolate is the best." Janner said, casting a sad look at Sara.
She only grinned at him.
Nia smiled. "Alright then, it's decided. I'll have the kitchen crew make some more."
Everyone filed out of the kitchen, with Sara feeling quite happy that she won the disagreement.
