Hugo yawned, rubbing his eyes sleepily. He and Mama had played Jungle Animals most of the day while Papa was at the bakery, helping Grandma and Grandpa. Hugo even had a lion costume that Mama had made for him, complete with bushy mane and tail.
But even the King Of Jungle needed their beauty sleep, so Hugo changed into Cat Noir green pajamas. The shirt and pants were decorated with little paw-prints, and Hugo couldn't wait to grow up and be like Daddy some day. But for now, he'd rather stay with Mama and play with his sister, Emma, when she wasn't staying overnight at Grandpa and Grandma's. Picking up his Cat stuffed toy, Hugo toddled out to the living room to have Mama and Daddy tuck him in for the night.
Soft whispers could be heard from the living room couch, and Hugo hesitated outside the doorway. Daddy was hugging Mama tightly, and he looked sad. "Hi, munchkin. Come on in," Marinette said, dressed as Ladybug looked up and saw her son. "What's wrong with Daddy?" Hugo asked, before sticking his thumb in his mouth. "Come here, honey," Marinette lifted her son next to her on the couch. She would have set him on her lap, but Marinette and Adrien were expecting baby three in a matter of months. "You know how you miss me when I'm at work, and Grandma comes to play with you?" Hugo nodded. "Well, Papa's missing his own mother right now. But he'll be fine, don't worry, my love."
Hugo thought for a moment. Then he got an idea. "Be back soon!" he slid off the couch, and scampered to his room. If Hugo was feeling glum, he always told his stuffed lion all his problems.
When Hugo climbed back on the couch, he patted Papa's shoulder. "Would you like to hug Scrawny?" he asked, holding out his toy. "I always feel better when I hold him, so he'll make you feel better too."
Cat tried to keep the tears in at his son's kindness. "Want to sit on my lap while I hold him?" Hugo nodded, a little shy. But that disappeared when he snuggled up to Daddy. Papa was strong and gentle, and he wouldn't let anything happen to him. "Your going to make a fine Cat Noir, one day, son," Cat whispered. "But for now, I'm glad your just Hugo." "Don't you mean, feline, Papa?" Cat grinned as Marinette groaned. "He's not even three, and he knows puns." "I'll tuck him in tonight, Bugaboo. This Kitty needs to teach this little lion some puns."
Hugo snuggled up in bed, as Papa took a book off the shelf to read. "You feel better, Papa?" Cat nodded. "Much. Now, let's read."
Papa's soothing voice and the creak of the rocking chair, made Hugo's eyes sleepy. As he fell asleep, Hugo smiled. It was nice to make Papa smile.
