AN: This story takes place almost three years after Edward and the Cullens leave Bella, at the start of New Moon. Alice never had a vision of Bella jumping of a cliff and therefor none of them ever returned to Bella and Forks. The story starts in september, shortly before Bella 21 birthday, and is a Edward/Bella fic 3 Hope you will enjoy :)
Is that Bella?!
Jaspers POV:
To say these last three years had been bad, was a severe understatement. Since that day in September, when my brother Edward asked us to leave Forks, our family has been torn apart. I was painfully aware every single day that this was all my fault. If I had not lost it over a small papercut, our newest family member would still be here. But she had been left behind, after Edward realized it was too dangerous for a human to be so close with our kind. And the loss of Bella was hard on everyone, especially for my wife Alice. Everyday she wondered what had happened to her best friend, the human girl she had grown so close to. Was she happy without us? Was she able to live a normal human life as we had hoped? That had been Edward's only hope, when we left Forks. The only thing that had kept him going these last 3 years. And even with that he was barely managing to hunt, to study, to be with us. It was as if he had left his heart and his soul with Bella, that September in Forks.
"Emmett Cullen?"
"Here," said Emmett from his seat next to me, the teacher noting who was in attendance, and who wasn't.
"Jasper Hale?" said the teacher after only a few more names. I put up my hand and gave the teacher a brief smile. We were all back as freshmen in college, for the first time in several years. Me, Alice, Rose and Jasper had attended a different college these last two years, but as Esme had finally convinced Edward to enroll also, we all started college anew. We didn't all study the same things, nor had the same schedule, but it still felt good all being in the same year. And someone had to keep an eye on Edward. As we weren't in High School and all pretending to be siblings in the same household, we did not feel it was necessary to be in different years anymore. I was taking several classes on anthropology and sociology, so I shared classes with my siblings more frequently than some of the others. As is why I was sitting here in Anthropology 101 with Emmett.
"Isabella Swan?" the teacher called out to the class. I felt myself and Emmett freeze, and slowly turn towards each other.
"The Bella?" said Emmett and started looking around the classroom. We would have noticed that she was here, I thought. Or at the very least have smelt her.
"Isabella Marie Swan?" called the teacher once more. No response came and the teacher marked her absence before continuing with roll call.
"It can't be," I said in a low voice to Emmett. "Wouldn't Alice have seen her living in New York, let alone attending this exact college?"
"Maybe, but she hasn't seen anything about Bella in years, right?" Emmett responded, still looking around the classroom, hoping to spot the small brunette we had not seen in so long.
Our teacher had by now finished roll call and started his introduction for the class.
"But this could be great, right?" said Emmett smiling. He had always been the optimist in our family. "Edward has been a mess for so long, I have seriously started doubting whether he would ever be himself again. And it's not like we have been able to convince him to go back to Bella on his own. But if he sees her again…" Emmett continued. I could not help being more pessimistic in this situation.
"But.. But what if she has moved on? It has been 3 years, which is quite long for a human, especially someone so young," I whispered back to Emmett. "She could have gotten married, maybe even had a kid, since we last saw her. I know Edward wants her to be happy, but I don't think he could handle seeing her with someone else."
That wiped the smile off Emmett's face. "You really think she would have moved on so quickly from Edward? I doubt she could be in anything as serious as a marriage, she's not even 21 yet! No one gets married that young anymore," Emmett pointed out.
Far behind us a door slowly opened and a small woman entered quietly. Her scent made it clear who had just entered, without us even having to turn around.
"Miss Swan, I presume?" said the teacher loudly while looking at Bella. She blushed, apologized for her tardiness and sat down in a chair, near the exit, next to another young female.
"Bella, where have you been? You didn't come home last night! You said you were going to leave shortly after I did," the blond girl whispered in Bella's ear.
Emmett had turned around and was staring at Bella, until I grabbed his shoulder, and turned him back toward the front of the class.
"Don't let her see you," I whispered furiously at him.
"Why not? It's really her, Jasper," Emmett said smiling.
"Yes, but the last time we saw her, I attacked her over a papercut! Or have you forgotten?"
"No, of course not," Emmett said, looking slightly more serious. "But this is Bella we are talking about, she forgave you about 2 minutes after it happened."
"Still, I think it would be best to stay out of sight, at least until Alice can predict how Bella will react," I said quietly, focusing on what Bella and the blond were saying.
"...Err, yeah I kinda forgot the time," Bella whispered blushing. "And then I fell asleep… I woke up 30 minutes ago, grabbed my clothes off the floor and had to run back to the bar from last night and get my bike, and then drove here as fast as traffic would allow me."
"That explains why you smell of beer and is wearing the clothes from last night. And whose floor was it you left your clothes on?" asked the blond girl arching an eyebrow.
"I believe his name was…David? Daniel? Dylan, maybe? Something like that, I don't remember the details," Bella whispered back, trying to focus on the teacher, as a blush was creeping up her face again.
"His name wasn't an important detail?! How did you not get his name," the blond whispered back, trying to regain Bella's attention.
"He told me last night, but I had gotten quite a lot to drink, so I don't remember anymore," huffed Bella back, trying to end the conversation.
"Miss Swan, as you have already been late for the very first lesson of this semester, I would advise you to quit chit-chatting and listen to my presentation," Mr. Jenson, the anthropology teacher, said loudly staring daggers at Bella.
"Sorry Sir," she said, her face red again, as she now again had the attention of an entire classroom. She started furiously scribbling notes and turned her face down.
Emmett and I were gaping at each other from the short conversation we had just overheard.
"I never thought that Bella would be the type to go home with a guy she barely knows," Emmett said, looking quite shocked, but also slightly proud.
"Neither did I. But a lot can happen in three years for a human. And we know it wasn't Bella's, but Edward's wish, for their relationship to be as… Well, not physical. She is a warm blooded, young woman after all," I said shrugging.
"Yeah, our kind is pretty cold blooded, and even we have a need for intimacy," Emmett said grinning. I rolled my eyes at him.
Mr. Jenson spoke again;
"Okay, the lesson is just about over, and I would prefer if everyone was here on time for the next lesson", he said glaring towards the back of the class, where Bella was seated, as everyone started packing up their things. Bella was one of the first out of the class, with the blond close on her heels.
"I have to call Alice," I said, taking my phone out of my pocket.
"Should I call Edward?" Emmett asked, swinging his bag over his broad shoulder.
"No, he is in another building complex than us, let's wait to tell him, at least until we have talked with Alice. And maybe Carlisle and Esme also," I answered him, just as I got a call on my phone. Should have known Alice would call me, as soon as I had decided to call her.
"Jazz, is it really her?" Alice said as soon as I picked up the phone.
"Yes, it's Bella, Alice! 100 percent sure," I answered her. A loud squeal came from the phone.
"Meet us at the east exit, so we can talk," I said while walking briskly down the halls towards the door, Bella had just exited. "Just don't let her see you, yet"
AN: I'm keeping the first chapters short and sweet, to quickly get into the story. So the chapters will become longer as the story progresses :) If you like, give a suggestion or review! I'm open to anything ;)
