Tears filled up in Lake's chocolate brown eyes. She couldn't believe what she had just heard her boyfriend Finn say. That they were over. That he didn't want to be with her anymore.
"What are you saying?" Her voice trembled.
"This isn't working out for me anymore," he said.
He gave her a twisted smile and it broke her heart. Tears ran down her cheeks and she did nothing to stop them. It would be pointless anyway.
"Was it something I did?" She asked.
"I just want something else, you know. Something more blonde," he said.
She had a head full of dark brown curls. She couldn't compete with whatever blonde person he had in mind, and she knew there had to be someone he already had his eyes on. She knew how he worked.
"Who is she?" She asked.
"Are you sure you wanna do this to yourself?" He asked.
"Who is she, Finn?" She asked.
"Well, if you must know, her name is Carmella and I work with her. She started a few weeks ago but the chemestry between us is insane. I wanna be happy. Don't you want me to be happy? You should if you claim to care about me," he said.
As always he twisted it around. Just another way of him saying the classic line about if she loved him, she would do things a certain way.
"What about my happiness?" She asked.
"I can't do this right now. We're done, Lake. I want you out of my house today," he said.
"What?" She asked.
"I'm gonna go visit Carmella and I expect you to be gone when I get back," he said.
"Where am I gonna go?" She asked.
"Where do you always go?" He chuckled. "Seth, of course. He'll take you in. He never says no to you. You got big brother wrapped around your finger. Anyway, I'm off. It was nice knowing you and all that."
He grabbed his car keys and left the house. She stood still for a few seconds until she heard his car start up and drive away. They were really done. She only had today to get out. She knew he meant it. He would be angry and throw her out without her stuff if she was still there when he returned.
She went to the bedroom and started packing her clothes. She got everything of hers packed and carried out to her car. Everything inside that house belonged to him. He owned it before they met, and he had done one hell of a job convincing her to donate everything she owned to a thrift store and move in with him.
She locked up the house and threw the key in the mailbox. She got into her car and drove to her brother's house. She probably should have called first but she wasn't sure she could handle a conversation before showing up. Finn was right about one thing. Seth would never say no to her when she needed a place to stay. She parked the car in front of his house and he came out before she had even made it to the front door.
"Did I forget we were meeting up today?" He asked.
She broke down in tears and he quickly wrapped his arms around her.
"Hey, what's going on?" He asked softly. "Tell me what's wrong, Lake."
"Finn," she cried.
"What about him?" He asked.
"He broke up with me and told me to get out of his house today," she said.
"He what?" He asked angrily.
"All my stuff is in my car. Can I please stay here for a while?" She asked.
"Of course," he answered.
He broke the hug and gave her the best smile he could in the given situation.
"Hot chocolate?" He asked.
"With whipped cream," she nodded.
"You got it," he said. "Let's carry all your stuff to the guest room and then I'll make hot chocolate for us while you find a good movie for us to watch. Fuck Finn! He doesn't deserve you. You were always too good for him."
