Before we begin...

I do not own Bleach. This is a Bleach Fanfic based on the anime "Bleach" by Tite Kubo. It follows a girl named Makoto Hayumi, a talented young lady who excels in the art of kido after tragically dying. I felt that Kido was so underused in the anime, and it was one of my favorite parts of Bleach. So, this story is all about how Makoto uses kido instead of Zanjutsu. There weren't many Kido-focused fanfictions, so I wrote this for y'all.

Disclaimer: There are A LOT of vacant spots in the 99 Hado and Bakudo spells so I will be making some of my own. I am very excited about that!

The Main Character's name is Makoto Hayumi. (18)

- I tried translating the names to Japanese as best as I could so if it's way off then tell me.

Most importantly, this takes place way before Ichigo's birth. Like Isshin is Captain but the Vizards are gone.

Now, Let's Begin...

Makoto Hayumi's POV (Before she died)

"This is stupid!" I bang my head on the railing as I contemplate my life choices. "How was I supposed to know we had an essay if she didn't say anything!? Now I have to retake the class..." I sigh as I look at the sunset from the roof of the school building. "Get it together Makoto, you're an adult now you just have to roll with the punches, at least this way, I'm guaranteed to memorize the material." I get up from the railing with a newfound determination as I run back to the entrance. "Let's do this!" *BANG* *CRASH*

3rd Person POV

As Hayami made her way back to the entrance she got hit by a truck from her side killing her in an instant. To this day, she went down in history to being the first person to get hit by a truck on the roof.

Makoto's POV

Everything went black as I heard chaotic whispers in the background. I must be in a hospital then... wait... I CAN'T AFFORD THIS... wait... I'm not in America... wait... HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!

Gradually the voices start to clear up as a voice who I'm assuming is from a man yells at me to get up. "MOVE! DON'T BE BLOCKING THE ROAD LES' YOU WANNA GET TRAMPLED ON." For some reason, my body instinctively got up as I stepped to the side the moment I heard "trampled." Almost instantly, I fell again onto the dirt floor. "Where am I? This isn't the hospital. And why do I feel like I got hit by a bus?" As I slowly try to get up, long blueish-purple strands dangle in front of my face. Once again, I was jolted awake as I stood up. "Blue hair?" Originally, I had brown hair and eyes so why is it blue?

"You look lost." I turn around and see a fairly young man in rags oh wait, I'm in rags too "Yea, where is this?" He turns his head to the side in confusion "You mean you really don't know?"

"Well, you did just say I was lost so..." I cross my arms and look at him expectantly.

"Yeah, but I-" He stops his sentence midway and sighs "You're in the Rukongai, this is district 68" That wasn't very helpful? "And where would this Rukongai be?" Now it was his turn to look at me funny. "The Soul Society of course. Where else would it be?" That still didn't make things clearer. At that moment, it all came back to me... Wait, did I die? Is this the afterlife? No no, this shouldn't be possible. I need more information. "Quick question, there wouldn't happen to be angels here, or people with wings, or massive golden gates?"

"Of course not." He said in a matter-of-fact tone. Ok so- I get interrupted from my thoughts as he continues. "But there are people called Shinigami with swords who fight hollows and help pass on the dead."

Yep, I'm dead. This must be heaven... or hell. I don't think this is hell. But then again could such a run-down place really be heaven? "Thank you for your help. By the way, I didn't catch your name."

"Oh, my name is Sai, no last name." I shook his hand as I introduced myself "Hayumi Makoto."

"So, where do you live?" I looked around the run-down buildings frantically as I turned back to Sai. "That's a good question."

3 months later

Sai let me live with him until I figured out a way out of this place. "I need a job." Sai looks up from the fire "Good luck with that, it's not that easy to get a job here and even if you do, you probably won't get paid." I internally groan as I think of some ideas.

'Well, can't I get an education? That is the first step to being successful." I say enthusiastically. "You're not referring to the Shinigami Academy, are you? I wouldn't recommend that place for people like us-." I ran up and hugged Sai smiling "How could I have forgotten!? I'll join the academy and become this shinigami that you said before!" I'll get stronger and leave this rundown village! Sai's face was less than pleasant as I voiced my thoughts. "Makoto, that's not possible. People like us are inherently weak."

"You right Sai, I am weak. So, I'll use this time to train my stamina and endurance! See you by midnight!" I say running off.

2 years later (I believe Shinigami experiences time differently, so this is basically 2 months)

I wave goodbye to Sai and thank him sincerely for all the help he has given me as I headed towards the academy. I believe it's in the upper areas of the Rukongai.

A 3-hour walk...

*huff* I didn't know it was that far. "Move it, peasant! Greatness is coming through." I get shoved to the side by a large bulky man who was guarding a pretty boy with brown hair and hazel eyes. "Watch where you're going, girl!" He said- well yelled at me. Even in heaven, the social hierarchy persists. I sigh as I continue to walk into the academy gates. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN I DON'T HAVE POTENTIAL? I'VE BEEN TRAINING SINCE I WAS A CHILD! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, WAIT TILL MY FATHER HEARS ABOUT THIS!" I wonder what that's about. I think walking past him.

I went to a desk where a nice-looking lady with short blonde hair was sitting. "Hello, welcome to Shin'o Academy! As we do have a lot of people applying this year, we'll have to conduct a pre-test to verify your potential, we hope you'll cooperate." I nod as I put my hand on the white ball. Shortly after, it glows green. "I assume that's good?" The blonde lady nods as she writes on a clipboard. "Yep, there are only 2 colors, Red and Green." She says handing me a slip. "You may head

inside. On your right, you'll find your wardrobe and if you keep heading in that direction, you can apply for a dorm." I thanked the lady as I followed the instructions she gave me and picked up a red and white uniform. "Ok, now the dorms." As I continued down the hallway, I came across two men chatting. "Excuse me! Is this where I sign up for a dorm?" The guys stop chatting as one of them holds out their hand. "You should've gotten a slip." I hum handing him the piece of paper. "Ok, here is your dorm room. I hope you have a great year here." I smile waving goodbye and eagerly walking towards my dorm.

After a short walk, I enter my room and come across a lady reading. As I close the door she looks up from her book. "Oh Hi! You must be my new roomie. My name is Naomi, nice to meet you." She walks up to me with a welcome smile on her face. "Hello, I am Makoto are you a first year as well?" She put her hand on her chest as she gasped "Oh Heavens no! I'm a fourth year."

"Oh sorry, I just assumed I would be bunked with another first year," I said scratching behind my head. "None taken, let me help you unpack so you can get started for orientation tomorrow." I look both ways then look at her. "Unpack what?" As I said this she looked down and noticed I didn't have anything. "N nevermind." She said quietly as her face flushed in embarrassment. "Feel free to go to the school cafe and get something to eat, explore the area, or rest here until tomorrow." She smiled as she left the room, "I'm going to go grab a bite, coming?" I shook my head no as I sat on my new bed. It's been a while since I was on one of these. "No, I'm good thank you." After asking me she left the room.

*sigh* So now it begins. Hopefully, I can graduate quickly so I can leave this place. No offense, but I didn't work hard at school only to have to go to another school.
