A/N: Hallo everyone! Long time no see, it has been years since I last wrote something for Yu-Gi-Oh!. I sure missed keeping up with this series and fortunately, I was able to get back to it after some of the roughest times in my life. Before anyone reads, this will be set in an alternate universe (AU) and some characters might have different age gap than the show. I hope that makes sense. As of this moment, there is no plan in writing a full story with chapters. Most likely, I will post one-shots to keep it easier for me. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this and the other ideas I have planned to post later. Have a nice day! And happy October 25th.
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! and its characters, they rightfully belong to Kazuki Takahashi
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Seto Kaiba.
A tall man stood outside his manor, waiting for the expected visit from one of his longtime acquaintance and colleague, Gozaburo Kaiba. That ruthless man, who showed no mercy to his opponents and his only interest was to boost up his reputation. He did not care about anyone, not even his family. That is some of the things you could say about Gozaburo Kaiba. For Derrick Hayes, he kept his relationship with Gozaburo strictly professional. His wife Elsa has made it clear of her dislike for the Kaiba man. He was only welcomed to talk to Derrick; she did not let him near her children.
Once he saw the black limousine, there was small time to prepare for his greeting. Gozaburo was aloof, not caring to begin a conversation unless it caught his interest. "Nice to have you again, Mr. Kaiba. Was a pleasant surprise to receive your call."
Gozaburo was in no mood to talk, he only stared at the man dead in the eye. "Hayes, I did not come here for friendly banter. Four months ago I made the decision to grow my family. As you can see, I had the heart to adopt these two children. I want to introduce you to them," he stated, as he motioned for the two young children to stand next to him.
"This is surprising news, Mr. Kaiba. I'm sure those kids would be wonderful," Hayes expressed, not taking his eye on the frightened small child who seemed to be hiding behind his older brother. His brother seemed to be fearless, determined as if he could stand against Gozaburo. At the same time, he could feel his sadness and worry. It was a shock to know that Gozaburo had made the decision to adopt children. That was probably the most unselfish thing he had ever done in his life. Unless everything was planned and orchestrated to get something in return.
He let his three guests come into his house, letting them walk towards the living room area. The place consisted of two brown leather sofas. Laying against a wall there was the television case that held the TV and VCR case. The Hayes enjoyed their family movie night so there had to be a VCR player. Although the DVD player was more popular, they stuck to their VCR case. The walls had many pictures and certificates to display since Elsa loved to show the family accomplishments over the years. In the middle of the room lies a red rectangular rug with black trim and on top of that lies a round wooden coffee table. Even though the Hayes have a high-class background, they were simple with their house designs. Derrick has been to the Kaiba household in the past and was amazed with not only the exterior design but also the interior part. Gozaburo loved to gloat about his success in any type of manner, especially to those he felt below him. For example, the Schroeder Family.
"Mr. Kaiba, make yourself feel at home—I will let Christine serve some drinks so we can have a nice conversation," Derrick said, watching as the three figures sat on one of the sofas. Before he could say something else to start the conversation, he caught a glimpse of his twelve-year-old daughter. "Kisara, sweetie. Dad is a bit busy with some friends, do you mind going to your mother?" he smiled at his daughter, hoping she would understand.
"Okay, but mommy said that she was making dinner," her soft voice resonated in the room and at one point she met eyes with the blue-eyed boy sitting next to the not so friendly man. Kisara waved at him, but the boy did not do anything and only gathered the courage to smile at her in return. The young girl giggled before she scurried away from the room to obey her father's orders.
Kisara had short white hair that reached down her shoulders and the most captivating feature of hers were her blue eyes. None of her parents had that peculiar color of eyes since most of their family tree were either hazel or brown eyes. Well, after some research, they realized that her paternal grandfather had those shining blue eyes as her father loved to call them. That is why on her tenth birthday, Derrick decided to give her three special cards. Those cards were passed down to him by his late father James. One of the rarest cards in Duel Monsters history, the Blue Eyes White Dragon. Maximillion Pegasus, a twenty-year-old businessman, creator of the Duel Monster card game gave those three rare cards to her grandfather James as a gift for being his teacher in many things he learned throughout his childhood. Pegasus has been forever grateful to the Hayes family and continued communication from time to time with them.
Gozaburo took a sip of his wine, looking Derrick directly in the eye. "As you have learned, I adopted these two kids. The older one is Seto and the younger one is Mokuba. My wife Caroline has been wanting kids ever since Noah had his accident so, I found these children in the orphanage who needed a family and decided to adopt them."
Derrick was listening closely and from what he could gather, the businessman did not take these children because he wanted to but only to please his wife. He had no words, but stayed listening to his speech and saw how the older of the two children did not want to be there. Something told him he did not want to be near Gozaburo, so he interrupted the ruthless man. "Seto, Mokuba if you want you can go outside. We have a garden as well as a playground. Your father and I can stay here talking for a bit," he offered, not looking at Gozaburo's expression since he knew about his poor character.
Seto and Mokuba looked at each other and without much to think, they got up and headed outside to the playground. The first thing they wanted to do was be free from Gozaburo's watch. "Finally, we are free from the old man, Mokie," Seto said as he walked towards the garden in the backyard of the manor.
"Yes Seto," Mokuba smiled as he followed his brother towards the garden. The two heard some humming a song and that is when they saw her again. It was the young girl who appeared in the living room earlier.
Ella sabía que él sabía*
Que algún día pasaría
Que vendría a buscarla
Con sus flores amarillas
She loved that song even if it was in a different language. Her mother has helped her decipher the meaning behind the lyrics. She thought it was sweet and since then has learned to sing it. Kisara was so invested in watering the flowers and as she turned around to see she had visitors, she put the watering pot on the ground. Giving all her divided attention to the two boys, she waved at them. It did not take her long to get out of her shell. "Hi, I'm Kisara. How about you two?" she asked curiously without losing her smile.
"My name is Seto, and this is my younger brother Mokuba," he spoke, watching as the girl freely grabbed his hand and nodded.
"Nice to meet you, Seto," she beamed and took Seto to see her garden of flowers. "I'm happy to have friends… it does feel a bit lonely sometimes. I have a sister, but she studies abroad. So I don't get to see her much. But what do you think of my garden? Isn't it pretty?" she asked before letting go of Seto's hand.
The four-year-old Mokuba was the first one to say something. "Yeah, it's pretty. But Kisara, what are those?" he pointed at the tall, radiant blooms in the garden.
Kisara's eyes darted to the cheery and bright, sun-like flowers in one corner of the garden. Her smile grew bigger as she walked towards the field of sunflowers. "These are sunflowers, Mokuba. And also, my favorite type of flower. It reminds me of happiness and hope."
Seto studied the girl's mannerisms for a bit. It seemed like she treasured those flowers, and it had a special meaning to her. He smiled, thinking of what to say. "It looks great, Kisara."
The girl never lost her smile but then she started coughing nonstop. She fell to her knees, trying to get rid of the cough. Seto helped her get up and she faintly smiled as her cough started to regress. Kisara began to feel a bit dizzy, but she stayed quiet for a moment. "Sorry, I'm okay," she apologized, walking to the swings to continue playing with her two new friends.
Seto and Mokuba followed her and also spend most of their time in the swings as they did during their time at the orphanage. Gozaburo got rid of the playground outside since he wanted Seto to focus on his studies so there was not much freedom for the two boys. Mokuba was instructed to stay in his room but sometimes he would be talking to Caroline. At least she was nicer than Gozaburo since she always looked out for him. There were times Mokuba would notice Caroline crying, holding a picture of another young boy. According to her, it was the child she lost before both Seto and him arrived at the mansion. Noah was dear to her and wished she could go back in time to have him back. But that woman never lost her kindness and still showed her caring and loving nature to Seto and Mokuba most of the time despite Gozaburo's demands to not do it. He did not want both to become soft, specifically Seto. He was training Seto to see if he was capable of joining the business world like him when he is of age. Mokuba always did his best to help his brother when he had those tough study sessions. There was a time he sneaked his Duel Monsters deck with a drawing of the Blue Eyes White Dragon in a book to remind him that he was not alone. Seto had thanked him countless times for not giving up and staying by his side. And that is what he will be doing all the time.
Derrick and Gozaburo had concluded their meeting that day. Seto and Mokuba got to spend time with Kisara for some time before she had to head inside before her parents found out she was outside for a long time. They made a new friend, and they did not know when the next time they were going to see her. Seto was back to reality as he continued endless hours of studying due to Gozaburo's strict rules. He had to remember one thing; he was doing this for Mokuba. He wanted to provide a better living style for his brother. This was better than staying at an orphanage. He made a vow to protect Mokuba, so he put all the effort to take all these study sessions. One good thing about traveling with Gozaburo to learn more about the business world, he was able to see Kisara. They were able to spend some time together when Gozaburo made a stop to the Hayes household to talk about the upcoming plans for Kaiba Corporation. Seto has been playing with the idea of turning Kaiba Corporation into a gaming industry, but his stepfather had laughed about it. However, Kisara thought it was a marvelous idea since it would focus on children having access to games. She has expressed how kids should be the focus of today. But when those visits became less and less, Kisara was worried that she had angered Seto. He has been pretty abrasive and cold in some of his past visits. She had asked if he was feeling alright, and his response was only a nod.
In one of his visits, Seto lay on the bed next to her holding her hand tightly. His cerulean eyes looked into hers and at some point, smiled. "Kisara, I know I have not been here to see you as often as I used to. Gozaburo has me working in the company endless hours. I hardly have any time to see Mokuba. Fortunately, he is enrolled in an elementary school, and is able to distract himself. But this is not the reason of my visit… you see… we have known each other for three years and I like being around you. I do. So, I was wondering if you wanted to take our friendship to the next level?"
There was a hint of redness on his cheeks and Kisara giggled. "Is this your way of asking me to be your girlfriend?"
Seto maintained his calm nature, not knowing how to respond. What he did not expect was the next thing. Her lips were touching his as she planted a small kiss. He stayed still until he moved his lips to the rhythm of hers. She really enjoyed being close to him and did not want anything or anyone to break their bond. Both of them broke apart from their kiss and she hid under his neck. Her shyness was evident, especially when she had just had her first kiss with the person she harbored feelings for a while. "Thank you, Seto. This is the best early birthday present."
Seto nodded but remembered one little detail. He got up from the bed earning a confused stare from the white-haired young woman. He had placed it on one of the chairs in her room. He grabbed the delicate object and handed it to Kisara. "This is for you."
Kisara eyes sparkled like stars as she put her attention to the sun-like object in her hands. "It's a sunflower… thank you, Seto. I love it."
And this is when Seto finally let out a smile. What mattered to him was seeing her happy and never losing that hope she preached the first time they met. "Good."
The news of the death of Gozaburo Kaiba had been broadcasted nationwide. Derrick Hayes was with his wife watching television at that precise moment and he was shocked. "Oh dear!" Elsa exclaimed since she knew her husband had been acquaintances with Gozaburo. She did not know what this meant for the Kaiba family.
As everyone has heard of the news of the passing of Gozaburo Kaiba, owner of Kaiba Corporation… we have been informed of the new plans for Kaiba Corporation. At just age fifteen, Seto Kaiba, Gozaburo's eldest son will be taking his place in due time. There have not been any words from the Kaiba family, but we will keep you all updated of any developing news. Back to you, Andrew for the weather forecast…
They turned the television off and there was nothing said until they were interrupted by their eighteen-year-old daughter Charlotte. Her return had been recent since she had finished her education in England. "Well, at least that old man is not going to cause anymore trouble. I heard how disgusting he was with people…"
"Charlotte!"
She heard her father scold her. Gozaburo had a reputation for being a horrible human being but that was sometimes overshadowed by his other less negative qualities. He was the best chess player, owner of one of the biggest corporations in the world and had a wealthy background. Despite being a vile and nasty man, Derrick did not like making fun of the dead. And besides, he held a huge appreciation for the two brothers: Seto and Mokuba. He knew of the importance of Seto in Kisara's life. She was always full of life when he would come visit. His only worry was if Seto would be able to be there for Kisara now that he will be the new CEO of Gozaburo's empire. Kisara has not had the normal life as other children. She was home schooled and not let out as much as she wanted to. It saddened him watching her beg to travel to Domino City to see Seto. He denied her requests and only told her it was the best for her health.
"Maybe one day…" he thought before heading out to the garden, seeing the snow fall on the ground.
Kisara laid on her bed reading a book. Her parents had been strict about her activities. Lately she has been having complications with her body. She was having heavy chest pains, feeling lightheaded, and out of breath. Her parents had been vague about the situation, but she trusted their words. It has been boring without Seto but luckily her sister Charlotte has made her return, so she was able to spend time with her. Even if it was in the manor, she was grateful to have her sister around. She was lost in her thoughts that she did not see her sister go into her room.
"So, how's your relationship with Kaiba?" she asked, sitting in one of the corners of her bed.
"I am happy, sis. Seto is wonderful and we have kept in touch through messaging. I was able to convince our dad to get me a phone so I could communicate with Seto," she replied as she looked down on her phone. It had been days since she last heard from him. "I hope he is okay; I have not been receiving messages from him for almost a week."
Charlotte sighed, understanding her sister's despair. "It must be because of Gozaburo Kaiba. I heard he died or something."
Kisara gasped in surprise and began to worry about Seto. "I wish I could be there for him in these moments, but I know that he was never fond of Mr. Kaiba," she said before hearing the alarm of her phone. It was time to take her medication and then get some rest.
After the passing of Gozaburo, Seto Kaiba was named the new president and CEO of Kaiba Corporation. Some associates from Gozaburo's team were not pleased but the young president did not care. He had made several adjustments in the company because his new plan of where the company was heading and moving forward required a team with knowledge. Kaiba Corporation had reformed to focus on the gaming industry. News of this made their way to the public. They were hopeful that the eldest son of Gozaburo would know how to manage one of the biggest companies in the world. Seto knew that changing the format of his deceased stepfather company would be controversial, but he did not care what others thought of it. He knew later they would be grateful for making it possible for everyone to enjoy the popular game Duel Monsters.
After the acquisition of KaibaCorp and changing its structure completely, word got out to Maximillion Pegasus. He was intrigued with the future of the company, especially with the call he received from Seto Kaiba himself. They would later begin a business partnership as Seto introduced holographic virtual system for Duel Monsters to Pegasus. The flamboyant male was ecstatic that his creation would be used to bring Duel Monsters into worldwide recognition. Seto maintained his focus on his company and wanted to make it the number one company in the world—not just in gaming but overall. Due to his hectic schedule, he has not had time for himself. Not even for Mokuba nor Kisara. He did keep in contact with his girlfriend and after she found out about his new position, she sounded so excited for him. She believed in him and told him to never give up. That is what he was going for. For certain, Seto Kaiba has not embraced normalcy in his life after gaining all this power at such a young age but due to the promise he made to Mokuba, he agreed on going to school. Mokuba wanted his brother to at least be a normal teenager and just because he is the new president of KaibaCorp, it did not mean that he had to forget about living. Kisara told him the exact same thing.
Seto, you have the privilege of going outside and seeing what's life about… I can't even go to a regular school because of my condition… please do not waste your life only sitting in a chair looking at computer screens all day… there's a lot that life has to offer… do not do it only for Mokuba and myself but for yourself…
That flashback replayed on his head because Kisara was caring for him. They have been dating for approximately two years and although it has been mostly long distance, Seto has made the effort on seeing her on some occasions. For her seventeenth birthday, Seto and Mokuba traveled to Chicago to visit her. She was not expecting his arrival and once she saw him, she ran to his arms not minding if her family was watching her. "Seto, I'm so happy to see you!" she gave him one of her biggest smiles before wrapping her arms around his neck and stealing a kiss from him. The kiss was brief, but he surely missed the touch of her lips on his.
"Eww, get a room you two. Going to make me have diabetes at this age," Charlotte joked as she joined the rest of her family to greet the Kaiba brothers.
"Nice to see you too, Charlotte," Seto said in a sarcastic tone as he rolled his eyes.
"You're so funny, Kaiba," she laughed before following her mother to the kitchen to get the dinner preparations ready. Mokuba and Derrick followed the two other ladies, leaving the young couple by themselves. They knew they had to catch up on so many things.
Once Kisara was alone with Seto, she took his hand and put it on her heart. "Thank you, Seto. This is the best birthday present ever. I still owe you… I yet have to visit Japan at some point," she commented, and Seto nodded, feeling a bit guilty that he has not been there for her in some pivotal moments of her life. She was understanding of his work ethic since running a company was not an easy task. "I would have shown you the sunflower garden but it's snowing so you would have to come back during summer when they bloom."
Kisara could tell Seto had a hard time starting conversations due to his reserved character over the years. She did not force him to talk because she knew he was a good listener. "You know, I have been feeling better. I have not been bedridden as my parents suggest I should be. I've been able to help mom with cooking and even start learning how to crochet. That takes a lot of skill but within these last few months, I have practiced and learned more," she told him while he grabbed her hand and headed to the living room. She could tell that he was worried about her health with how he pressed her hand. "I will be alright, don't worry Seto."
Seto sighed, "Kisara, I don't want anything happening to you."
She touched his cheek, trying to comfort, and reassuring him that she would be fine. After he found out about her delicate heart condition, he kept tabs on her and made sure she was getting the correct treatment. "Silly, it's not like I'm dying. It's just hereditary and I was the unfortunate soul. There's nothing to worry about. But enough about me, how's school?"
He knew she was trying to change the subject to lessen his worries. "It's fine. Ready to graduate so I can be done with it and not see all those losers and geeks."
Kisara laughed at his remark, knowing Seto was not really the friendly type of guy. Throughout the years, his warm demeanor changed due to the strict tutoring and guidance of Gozaburo Kaiba. She disliked that man for taking away Seto's essence but in her heart, she knew he was not a lost cause. There was still sign of the old Seto, the Seto she met that eventful day. She was not ashamed to be in a relationship with Seto Kaiba. Her loyalty and love for the young CEO was something that no one would take away.
"Kisara, I've been thinking…"
Kisara got out her trance and gave all her attention to Seto. "About what, Seto?" she asked, wondering about the sudden change of facial expression from him. "It's everything okay?"
Kaiba nodded, getting something from the right pocket of his pants. Kisara noticed it was a tiny black velvet box. The contents of it were unknown but when he opened it, making it visible for the white-haired beauty, she gasped in shock. "Seto, I um.."
"Marry me, Kisara," he blurted out, cutting her off in that moment.
The young woman was in a state of shock but regained her senses as she began crying tears of joy. She jumped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes, I would love to be with you until the end of time."
Seto gave her a kiss on her forehead before grabbing her left hand. He carefully placed the engagement ring in her fourth finger. Even though Seto did not do the traditional steps of a proposal such a getting on a knee while using one of his hands to show the box with the engagement ring, sometimes it was not worth following the rules and it was better to do it his way. The Seto Kaiba way, as he liked to call it.
Memories of that night went away and he smiled a little as he typed on his computer. He was working on getting the Duel Disks prepared to be announced. Firstly, he had to check for any abnormalities or errors. He wanted this to be perfect and no mistakes were allowed. Duel Disks were going to make the Duel Monsters game more fun. But his thoughts kept going back to her. She had given him hope to pursue his dreams and that is what he was doing.
"Kisara, you will see Domino soon," he promised as he stared at the picture of her in his office. She had let her hair grow for the last two years. Now it reached down her waist and as much as he loved her short hair, he had to admit her long luscious hair was beautiful.
Seeing her happy was worth it. Since that moment, everything was going perfectly. He tried his best to visit but due to his ongoing KaibaCorp affairs, he had to stay in Domino City for a while. The video calls and texting were daily. After work, he would take the time to hit her up. She always had that beautiful smile when she appeared on his computer screen. He did not know when he would see her again. Hopefully soon.
"Charlotte, c'mon!"
Kisara was waiting for her sister to get out of the restroom since she did not want to be late. She has been talking nonstop about this trip to her family. After receiving the approval from her health provider, her family had no other choice but to let her travel for the first time. Kisara felt elated and couldn't contain her excitement. At long last, she was going to see him. She had to admit, the thought of getting on a plane frightened her. Had no idea what to expect but seeing Seto was worth the long travel.
"Okay sis, geeze! I'm ready! Next stop, Domino City!" she grabbed her carry-on as she accompanied Kisara to their gate.
Their flight felt like an eternal one. For most of the trip, the two sisters were asleep. But once they landed, Kisara was able to relax as she looked at her surroundings. Domino City airport was a bit different than Chicago's, so she didn't feel completely lost. Her sister was busy grabbing a cup of coffee and a donut for her at one of the airport coffee shops. "Those thirteen hours on the plane were exhausting. I called mom and dad letting them know we made it safely to Domino. Now we have to find our way through this city."
Kisara took a bite out of her donut as she followed her sister as they headed out of the airport building. They waited for the taxi so they could make their way to the Kaiba household. Kisara was beginning to feel nervous because she did not tell Seto about her visit to Domino; she wanted to keep it a secret and surprise him. Once the taxi driver arrived, the two sisters got in and gave the driver specific directions to their destination. The driver was flabbergasted because he heard of the Kaibas, but he did not question their decision to pay that family a visit. The drive was less than half an hour and Charlotte could tell Kisara was exhausted. Her energy was low and didn't talk much. The sisters were dropped off at the front of the mansion and with suitcases in both their hands, they climbed the stairs and gave the area a closer inspection. It was an elegant mansion, bigger in size in comparison to her parent's house.
"Dang, Kaiba sure is loaded. This house is five times bigger than ours," she stated, and Kisara giggled but she remembered she was not there to glance at his house. She took a step towards the door and rang the doorbell. It wasn't even ten seconds as they were greeted by one of the house maids. "Hello there, what can I help you with young lady?" the elderly maid named Keiko asked, adjusting her glasses to get a closer look at the two figures standing outside.
"We came to see Seto," Kisara answered with a small smile, hoping their visit was of not so much trouble.
"Oh, Master Kaiba is not home yet. He's still at school if I remember correctly," the house maid said, finally looking at the two young ladies. "But I can inform his younger brother."
"Yes please, that would be great," Kisara watched as the maid guided them towards the living room. Both sisters sat down on one of the couches and waited for Mokuba.
"Master Mokuba should be down in a bit," she said before excusing herself to the kitchen to conclude her housework duties.
In the meantime, Kisara observed her surroundings. The living room was spacious and had more content than her house. Her fiancé seemed to take care of this house since it was well-furnished and full of modern appliances. Her thoughts were interrupted as she heard footsteps getting closer.
"Kisara, Charlotte!" the overly energetic kid gave them a huge hug, surprised of the unexpected visit of the Hayes sisters. "How long have you been in Domino?"
Kisara was happy to see her future brother-in-law. "We arrived a few hours ago. It was a bit of a struggle to find a taxi. "
"I see, but you should have called us. We could have picked you up from the airport."
The white-haired woman shook her head. "It wouldn't be a surprise if we did that. Seto doesn't know about my visit at all," she explained and Mokuba understood her point.
"Well, Seto is still at school, and I don't know if he is heading to work after that, but I explicitly told him to come have dinner with me. I made him a cake with the help of Miss Keiko. She's good with pastries."
"I'm sure Seto would love the cake, Mokuba" Kisara said as she nervously played with her hair.
"I hope so, but c'mon let's get you both situated, and I will have Bruno take care of your suitcases," Mokuba grinned as he let both ladies follow him to the long staircase. Before they could take another step, the door of the house opened. And there he was in all his glory, Seto Kaiba, holding a briefcase in one of his hands.
"Mokuba!"
The young teenager turned around and ran to greet his brother. "Big brother!"
Kisara and Charlotte went back down the stairs and watched as the two brothers engaged in a conversation. Kaiba turned his attention to the two visitors behind Mokuba. His eyes widened as he realized that it was Kisara. "Kisara…"
Kisara continued to smile as she got lost in her fiancé's eyes. Not wanting to wait more, she ran to him and threw herself at him. "Happy birthday, love!"
Seto Kaiba was not much of displaying his feelings in public, but he returned her hug. "Why didn't you tell me you were heading to Domino?" he asked, not even upset at her unexpected visit.
"Like I told Mokuba, it wouldn't be a surprise if I did," she winked as she placed a kiss on his lips.
Charlotte and Mokuba looked at the couple for a bit before they went to find the rooms the sisters would be staying in. Well, mostly Charlotte since Kisara probably would be staying in Kaiba's room. Immediately after the two individuals left, Kaiba took Kisara's hand, holding it tightly as he made his way to the huge garden at the front of the mansion. Reaching his destination, he let Kisara take a look at the selection of flowers in every section of the garden. "We were able to finally bloom this garden. It used to be only grass and trees but not anymore. It won't be season in a few weeks, but I want you to see this before it's gone," he said, letting Kisara admire the gorgeous flowers.
"You are so thoughtful, Seto. But silly, I'm the one that's supposed to surprise you. It's your birthday and I want you to have something," she said, trying to find the box she had stuffed in her handbag.
Seto wanted to stop her from doing such thing, but he was familiar with Kisara's stubbornness. "You being here is enough for me."
Kisara blushed at his comment because he made her feel special. So that is why she wanted him to have a wonderful day. Her hands now held a small rectangular box that was wrapped with a blue ribbon on top. "Happy birthday, Seto. I want you to have this gift. I want you to have them because I know you will take care of them," she put the box in one of his hands, allowing him to open it when he was ready.
Kaiba untied the ribbon and then opened the box carefully, revealing a Blue Eyes White Dragon card. He could not believe his eyes. This was his favorite card and had been looking forward to getting a hold of it for a long time. He had no luck whatsoever but all this time, Kisara had a card. His surprise did not end there, on the bottom of that card were another two. "My father gifted me these cards when I turned ten as a present. It was originally a gift from Mr. Pegasus to my grandfather James who later passed it down to my father. But I want you to have them, I know you will take care of them."
He still was at a loss for words, but he nodded. "I will, Kisara."
She smiled but that moment of happiness disappeared as Kisara began to collapse. Kaiba managed to secure her in his arms. He picked her up in his arms, as he sprinted to his car. He carefully placed her in the passenger seat with a seat belt on before he drove away to the nearest hospital. The young woman lay unconscious on the seat with no sign of response. "Kisara, wake up..."
The last time he felt fear was when both his parents left this world, leaving him alone to take care of Mokuba. Their death caused a shift in his life at such a young age and he did not want to experience that loss again. Not Kisara. He still wishes to show her the world.
