[How the Alternate World Plays]

The Fallen Stars features a Fódlan with a different history. While some events may play at the same as they did before, other events will be changed by the introduction of the Starfall Islands. Eventually, these changes will transform Fódlan into a completely different world.

The battle will immediately end in a loss once that limit has been reached. Maneuver your troops wisely and use special items to move your commander to the Goal Ring.

Part 1 - Chaos Storm
The Starfall Islands

[Music - The Land Beloved by the Goddess]
[Fire Emblem - Three Houses]

The continent of Fódlan, said to be protected by a revered goddess, has existed since time immemorial. Three ruling powers now control the land. In the south lies a region long held by a more than one-thousand-year-old dynasty–the Adrestian Empire. Beyond its borders, to the frigid north, is the home of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, ruled by the royal family and its knights. To the east, a league of nobles that heeds no king nor emperor rules what is called the Leicester Alliance.

Many, many years ago, Fódlan was once consumed by a grand and bloody war that threatened the lives of all of its citizens. To escape this conflict, a group of survivors led by an Ultimate Lifeform prayed to the sea, begging the ocean to let them escape from the coming war. The seas of chaos obliged, and with its gentle waves, brought the survivors to their home where they would live side-by-side with the sea's children. These new frontiers were dubbed the Starfall Islands by the new settlers.

In fear of being discovered, the first settlers of the Starfall Islands created machines that would protect them from centuries, and keep the islands hidden from invaders. In the present day, those machines–the Guardians and the 4 Titans–live in harmony with the Islanders and the Children of Chaos. The Starfall Islands are led by three Chiefs, one for each of the three Island, and are advised the same Ultimate Lifeform that aided the first Islanders during their escape from the that terrible war.

Yo! I'm Sonic, from Kronos Island!

Yesterday, a large storm hit the Starfall Islands which took down the bridges between Kronos and Ares. Man… I wanted to pay Tails a visit, but now I have to wait until the Guardians repair the bridge. I wonder what got Chaos angry last night.

Anyways, that's not important! Our village leader held a meeting with the chief earlier today. Apparently, some Cyclones found a wrecked ship somewhere on the east coast of the Island! Nobody wants to go near 'em, so the Chief decided to call Shadow to see what we should do.

I'm not waiting until that old fossil gets here! I saw the footage the Cyclone's managed to record, and it looks like there's a girl with white hair stuck in the wreckage! If I don't get her out of there, she might get hurt!

Don't worry, whoever you are! Help is on the way!

"Sonic, are you sure we should be out here? We don't even know if she's alive or not. Or if she's hostile!"

"Yeah, Amy, I know, I know! But, it's better to be safe than sorry, right?"

Stepping out of the brush, a pair of young Islanders slowly walked towards the cliffs of Kronos Island. The first one was a boy with short blue hair, wearing a tan colored shirt with brown pants and red boots and carrying a silver broad sword with a gold, circular hilt. Following him was a pink-haired girl in a red dress, who wielded a giant red and yellow mallet.

[Sonic Superstars]

"I don't think you're thinking about this," Amy scolded Sonic. The hotheaded swordsman only shrugged as he looked down the cliffs, looking for the boat that crashed during last night's storm. "What if we get in trouble?"

"Please! As long as we're quick, Big won't learn a thing!" Sonic reassured her. Amy growled and swung her hammer at his head, knocking the free-spirited teen onto the floor.

"Really, Sonic? You really think that nobody is going to notice two kids going down to some shipwreck before anybody gave the order?" Amy asked, frowning as she leaned against her hammer. "And let's be honest here: you're crazy if you think we're not going to get caught. There are Soldiers crawling all over the place!"

Sonic got up from the floor and quickly dusted off his clothes. He smirked at Amy, getting another deadpanned expression from the girl. "Relax! As long as we're sneaky, the Soldiers won't spot us!" Sonic reassured her. Amy raised an eyebrow as she hefted her hammer onto her shoulder and looked up at the sky.

"What about the Squids?" She asked. Sonic blinked and looked to where Amy's eyes led. He cursed to himself as he found the flying Guardian hovering over to the east.

"Squids don't usually come over here…" Sonic muttered to himself. However, his expression soon turned into a cocky smirk. "And if there's a Guardian that's not on its usual patrol path…"

"Then that's gotta be where the shipwreck is," Amy finished for him.

"Right! So, all we gotta do is keep ourselves hidden from the Soldiers, and we're good!" Sonic exclaimed.

"Uh huh. And how are we supposed to keep ourselves hidden from the Squid?" Amy asked. Sonic opened his mouth to answer, but no sound came out of his mouth. He tried to respond again, but he couldn't come up with anything. After a while, he just shrugged and walked towards the Squid, a look of smug determination on his face.

"I'll figure it out when we get there!" Sonic exclaimed. Amy groaned as she followed him.

"I swear, you're going to get us killed someday…" Amy whined as she followed Sonic into the forest.

"Not today! Besides, I sort of have a plan! We'll just take cover in the forest! Not many Guardians come out here that often," Sonic explained. He ducked to avoid another swipe from Amy's hammer.

"Of course you know that. You've been outside the village more times than anybody else," Amy bemoaned.

"Hey, I gotta do something to keep myself from going crazy," Sonic said. He paused and pushed Amy back. She was about to say something, until she noticed a small group of Soldiers scanning the area. He hides inside a bush just as the Soldier looks their way. It spots nothing, and continues walking.

"Can't you just explore the islands some more? There's gotta be some place that you haven't explored thoroughly yet," Amy suggested. The boy considered her words for a moment.

"Well, I guess I haven't mapped all of Chaos yet, but that's because ol' Egghead is a massive prick!" Sonic exclaimed. Amy let out what felt like her fiftieth groan for the day.

"Haven't you considered that Robotnik cares just a bit about your wellbeing? Chaos Island is littered with lava and cliffs!" Amy told him, but Sonic only shrugged.

"Yeah? So is Ares!" Sonic countered.

"Yeah, but at least you won't burn to a crisp because you tripped!" Amy said back.

"Yeah, well…" Sonic tried to find something to say, but he couldn't come up with anything. "Well, living on the Islands is lame!" He said eventually.

"You shut your…! Alright, fair enough," Amy said with a shrug. "I mean, we do have the giant robots on our side, and most of them can even fly. I'm pretty sure Wyvern can carry most of us to the mainland…" Amy's expression turned into a deadpan stare as she looked at the back of Sonic's head. "This isn't about saving the girl at all, is it?"

"What kind of prick do you take me for?" Sonic asked her sarcastically. "Although, I do admit, just simply saving her was not the only reason."

"At least you're honest about it…" Amy sighed. "What sort of stories do you expect to hear?"

"Not really sure, honestly. Just wanna know what's out there, and hopefully what's out there is more than just plains, deserts, and volcanoes," Sonic answered, as they walked, the blue-haired boy turned around to look at the vast blue ocean. Even from this distance, he could see the vague outline of land on the horizon. "You think they also have robots to do all the dangerous work for us?" He asked.

"Maybe? Shadow did say that our kind of tech was pretty rare when our ancestors first escaped from the mainland," Amy stated. "But since they don't have as much of a limit on natural resources like we do, they could have even more than us, don't you think?"

"Yeah, that makes sense," Sonic murmured. "What are we doing again?"

"The secret rescue mission, Sonic…"

"Right!" He looked up, and saw that the Squid was still hovering over what was assumed to be the sire of the shipwreck. The hovering Guardian circled the area, scanning for anything out of the ordinary. Sonic frowned, and wiped his thumb against the underside of his nose.

"We've gotta find a way to get that Squid somewhere else, but how…?" Sonic muttered to himself.

"Well… we could destroy some nearby Soldiers," Amy suggested. Sonic blinked and turned to face, staring at her with wide eyes. "Well, all the Guardians are connected to Giganto's information network. So if we… how to put this, violently disconnect them, then that will cause Giganto to send the Squid to investigate what happens."

"When did you get smart?" Sonic got another bonk to the head, courtesy of Amy's Piko-Piko Hammer.

"Unlike you and Knuckles, I actually pay attention to Tails' ramblings!" Amy said proudly, puffing up her chest like it was a major accomplishment.

That's not sarcasm.

"Alright then…" Sonic said, a mischievous grin growing on his face. "Let go break some 'bots, shall we?"

Sonic and Amy moved silently towards the north end of the forest. They held their weapons tightly, anticipating the coming conflict. While they were trained to fight with Soldiers, the robots were going easy on them. Not to mention, while patrolling Guardians don't immediately go on the attack once they spot someone… typically somebody is going to have to see a healer for a few years if there's been a confrontation.

"Spot any yet?" Sonic asked Amy, They were still close to the forest. Once the Squid had been alerted to the destroyed Soldiers, they would need to take cover beneath the foliage unless they wanted to get jumpscared.

"Yep," Amy said. He turned around and saw four Soldiers walking past them. Sonic smiled as he tightened his grip on his sword. Amy just sighed as she separated her legs to distribute the weight of her large hammer.

In a flash, Sonic dashed from his cover and raced towards the nearest one. In one clean swipe, Sonic's sword, Caliburn, cleaved through the Soldier. The robot vanished in a red digital explosion, leaving nothing behind. The other Soldier's turned around, their triangular eyes and bladed arms turning bright red as they lunged towards Sonic.

Sonic backflipped out of the way and lured the Soldiers towards an hammer-ready Amy. She burst from her cover and spun around, striking the sides of the robots with weapon of choice. They were launched backwards, and while none were destroyed, they were still disoriented enough to allow Sonic to slash through them with relative ease. Most of them, anyways; one Soldier recovered faster than the other two, and blocked his attack. Sonic frowned as he pushed the robot back to stab it, but the Guardian rolled to the side to dodge.

"Uh oh," Sonic muttered as the Soldier's arms extended. He raised his sword and blocked the stab using Caliburn's side, by their still enough strength behind the attack to send him flying. Sonic yelped as he was thrown into the air and skidded across the floor.

The Soldier rushed towards Sonic and leapt into the air, ready to turn him into a blue-haired skewer, but thankfully Amy managed to defend him with the flat side of her hammer. The Soldier jumped back and began circling around her, trying to get past her and strike Sonic, since he was deemed as the bigger threat. Each time the Soldier advanced, Amy followed its movements and blocked its approach with the handle of her hammer. The Soldier quickly grew tired of this and tried to attack Amy directly.

The girl yelped as the bladed arm clanged against her hammer, sending sparks all over. Amy is pushed back a few feet, but isn't knocked to the ground like Sonic. As the Soldier rears its arm back for another attack, Amy twirls her hammer and swings with her hips. The face of her Piko-Piko hammer collides with the tip of the Soldier's arm. A crater forms underneath Amy as she struggles to push the Soldier away.

She manages to complete her swing, pushing the Soldier a few feet away from her. It manages to pick itself up frighteningly fast and launches itself towards her. As it swings its arm at Amy's head, she smirks and leans forward. Sonic dashes forward and delivers a powerful slice with Caliburn. The head of the Soldier rolls across the ground as it and the main body both disappear in a flash of red light.

Sonic and Amy pause to catch their breaths, both of them slightly winded from their fight, despite how short it was. "C'mon, let's get out of here!" Sonic says, grabbing Amy by the wrist and pulling her back into the forest. They moved to the other end of the forest near the cliffs and looked up at the sky. As Amy had said, the Squid was beginning to move away from its spot to investigate. Sonic smiled as he left the cover of the forest and ran towards the cliffs, Amy not too far behind.

Eventually, the cliffs began to recede, and the salty scent of the sea made its way to them. Sonic and Amy could hear the waves more clearly as the steep cliffs slowly shifted to a beach covered in sand. "Look!" Amy said after a few minutes of silence. Near the shore of the beach was a large, shattered vessel. Pieces of wood and mast littered the shoreline, most of which were covered in the sand or floating on the shore of the ocean.

"So, this is the place, huh?" Sonic muttered to himself. "Welp, let's start looking for survivors. You take that end, and I'll start here," He said, pointing to the opposite end of the ship. Amy nodded and ran away, kicking up sand as her boots hit the loose sand.

Sonic used his sword to poke and prod through loose pieces of wood. With a few careful slices, he cut through the ship's hull and burst into the lower decks. If anything was in here, it was either completely destroyed or washed away by the ocean. The windows were shattered; broken glass littering the floor and embedded into the walls. After a few more slices, Sonic went into what looked like a flooded storage area. Fruits and salted meats were floating on top of the salty sea water, and some items had pieces of wood or metal embedded into them. The heavier items all sunk to the bottom, were being dragged out by the tides.

With a frown, Sonic jumped out and slashed through the wooden roof, coming out of the side of the ship where he was hit with the salty air of the sea. He jumped onto the mast and stabbed his Caliburn into it, using the blade as an anchor while he walked along the wooden length. He reached the end of the mast, and yet, found nobody. It was strange, honestly. At this point, he should've found somebody by now, dead or alive.

Sonic jumped down from the mast, rolling against the sand to cushion his fall.

Speaking of finding somebody, what happened to the girl? Did she regain consciousness and hide somewhere? Where would she even hide? It probably has nothing to do with shifting sand he can hear from behind him. Oh wait.

In a flash, Sonic dropped to the ground and swept legs around him. His foot slammed against an ankle, which caused the girl with white hair to gasp and fall face-first onto the beach. Her knife landed next to her, and she reached out to grab; however, Sonic was already on his feet. "Gone!" He said playfully as he kicked the small blade into the ocean.

That didn't stop him from getting a powerful blow in the center of his back. Sonic splashed in the water of the ocean, his mouth filling with sea water as he sank. Sonic quickly pushed himself out of the ocean. The girl's pale eyes widened as she saw Sonic, rising from the water with a fervent grin on his face, dash towards her at an incredible speed. He threw a right hook, which she attempted to dodge, only to end up defenseless as he plowed his knee deep into her gut. The girl let out a wet gasp as her eyes rolled into the back of her head and fainted.

"Well, that was something…" Sonic said to himself, stretching out his back. "Still… Man! She hits hard." He leaned down and pressed his fingers against her throat. He let out a sigh of relief when he felt a pulse.

"Sonic!" The boy in question turned and waved at Amy, who was running towards him.

"Hey! I found the person!" Sonic shouted back. "I think she tried to kill me earlier, but don't worry! I knocked her out! Did you find anybody else?"

"No! Ships empty!" Amy said. To Sonic, it sounded like she was panicking for some reason. He wondered why. "Can you carry her!?"

Sonic looked down at the unconscious girl. He unceremoniously slung her over his shoulder and jogged around in a circle, trying to see how fast he could run while carrying her. "It's not a problem! She's really light! I don't mind that in a good way; I'm pretty sure she's malnourished or something!"

"Ok! Now let's hurry and get back to town!" Amy shouted. Yep. She was definitely panicking.

"Shouldn't we double check the wreckage first!?" Sonic asked, moving backward to prepare for a sprint.

"We can't! The–" Amy tried to say, but an explosion cut off what she was about to say. Sonic looked past her, and saw the Squid flying towards them, its orange arrow eyes glowing bright red, its bladed arms extended and firing blasts of energy at her.

[Sonic Frontiers]

"Ah." Sonic muttered. He turned around and booked it, Amy hot on his heels, and the Squid flying menacingly over them both.

Because of the sand and the added weight, Sonic had a hard time reaching top speed. He wanted to grab Amy and make a mad dash to the forest, but that would slow them down even more and get them… well, not killed, but definitely in need of healing for multiple months. And that's no good.

"Take her!" Sonic said as he tossed the girl to Amy. She didn't catch her, and they both skidded across the sand. Sonic turned around suddenly, kicking up sand as he suddenly changed directions, and ran towards the Squid. The flying Guardian reared one back and thrust it forward, launching a wave of sand towards him. The boy cursed as he spun around, the sand hitting his back and missing his eyes. He jumped up, narrowly avoiding a slice from the robot's bladed arm.

Sonic ran across the Squid's arm, smiling as he unsheathed his sword and jumped forwards. A force of blue wind surrounded him as he slashed at the Squid's face, leaving only a hairline crack on the glass screen. He chuckled awkwardly as the Squid slapped him away. Sonic crashed on the ground, half his body buried in sand when he came to.

He looked up, seeing the Squid fly over him, and stabbed his sword into Squid's tail. After picking himself back up (Squid tails act more like an unwinding string rather than a normal tail), he pulled on the hilt of his sword and up onto the tail of Squid. Sonic start's racing down the blackish purple metal, his footsteps alerting the flying Guardian. The head swiveled around as it flew forward, firing blasts of energy at him. With a few swings of his swords, Sonic deflected the blasts with ease and jumped over a ball of energy. Slowly, he approached the head of the Squid.

Once Sonic got close enough, the Squid sliced forwards with its bladed arms. He dropped to his knees, his pants and skin tearing against the metal of the tail. Once the arm cleared his head, Sonic turned around and pushed off the tail, allowing him to jump over the second arm. Sonic smirked as he encased himself in a blue glow and launched at the Squid. Caliburn's tip bounced off the protective glass that encased his head, but it still knocked the machine back a few feet. Sonic twirled in the air, his body spinning like a buzzsaw as his sword sliced and shattered through the bulletproof glass.

With a downwards slash, Sonic managed to knock the Squid into the ground. The sand, and soon grass and dirt, erupted and flew into the sky as the Squid rolled on the ground. Sonic landed next in front of it, breathing heavily as he dropped to one knee and steadied himself with his sword. Sweat dripped from his brow as he tried to pick himself back up. "Uhhh, I thought more than enough magic for that…" Sonic muttered.

"Sonic!" He heard Amy cry. At the same moment, he heard the Squid's engines revving up, and saw the robot's shadow looming over him.

"Ah, crud…" Sonic muttered, screwing his eyes shut and putting on a grimace of a smile. Thankfully, the Squid never dealt with the finishing.

Instead of feeling metal tearing through flesh, Sonic heard the sound of metal slicing cleanly through metal. He turned around and saw the Squid being split in half, clean down the middle. It let out streams of pink and red energy as the robot exploded, sending shards of metal and glass all over the area. Sonic was about to smile, until he heard the telltale sound of those shoes.

[Music - Speed Jungle Act 1]

"Hey… Shadow," Sonic said, smiling awkwardly as he looked up. Hovering above him was a slim and tall man whose face looked remarkably similar to Sonic's own, though that was where the similarities ended. The man furrowed his brows, his black and red-striped hair flowing as he descended. The man wielded a modified bow; it was once made of gold, but was now outfitted with black metal and red stripes.

Shadow narrowed his eyes at the young boy, but soon turned his attention to Amy as she ran towards them, the unconscious girl slung over her shoulders. His bright red eyes let out a glow as he studied her.

"Seiros, and Mo… Huh…" he muttered quietly, his voice too low for Sonic or Amy to hear.

"Sooooo…" Sonic muttered, getting the centuries-old relic's attention. "We're not in any trouble, are we?" He asked. Shadow let himself drop to the ground, his Air Shoes shutting down and pushed them away. Sonic was about to run up and do something when he saw him reaching for the girl, but Amy managed to pull him back just enough so that he could see that Shadow was only slinging her over his shoulder.

"That's not up to me," Shadow said gruffly, glaring at the two Islander youths with his piercing red eyes. Amy wilted somewhat under his gaze, while Sonic stood with the same posture he always had.

"See? Told you we had nothing to worry about!" Sonic boasted to Amy. She frowned at him and crossed his arms, deciding in her head whether or not he deserved a smack to the head.

"We're heading back to the village. You're both already in enough trouble as is," Shadow said, smirking at the two youth's expressions. Amy glared at Sonic, who stood completely still with his eyes wide and strained smile.

"How… much trouble, exactly?" Sonic asked. His expression turned dour when Shadow locked eyes with him, his smirk turning into a decidedly smug look.

"While I don't have any actual power…" Shadow began, his smile turning sharper with each passing second, "I can tell Big what sort of punishments I think you deserve." Amy groaned and hid her face in her palms. Sonic, meanwhile, started to sweat when he realized what Shadow was threatening them with.

"Shadow, please! I can't go out fishing in the middle of the lakes! Anything but that!" Sonic pleaded, falling to the ground and tugging on Shadow's pants leg.

[SFX - Goal Ring]

"Hmm… I was actually thinking of sending to fix some broken machines on Chaos Island–" Sonic's face brightened, "–but now that you mention… maybe some fishing would ease your nerves," Shadow said, turning away from the duo to hide his smug expression. Sonic's face paled as the older man started walking away with the unconscious girl in his hands.

"Y-you don't really mean that, right?" Sonic asked frantically, running after Shadow. Amy just sighed in annoyance as she followed the two of them back to the village. "Shadow, you're joking, right?" The advisor just stayed silent as Sonic followed behind him, a panicked look on his face.
