Wow! I haven't written fanfic in years.

I know, I know. I'm writing one of those really cringey "movie fics." I figured, since I've been out of the game so long, this would be a good way to get back into practice.

Also, just a heads up, I'm on AO3 now too, so if you see this there, it's from me.

Kill Rogue vol. 1

Prologue: "Do you find me sadistic?"

Pain.

That was all Lucy Heartfilia felt. When she got up this morning, she never expected her day would end so horrifically. But now, here she was. Her body was bruised, bloody, and beaten, laying on a crumpled heap on the stiff, wooden boards of the Fairy Tail Wedding Chapel. Her wedding dress was stained with blood.

Everyone else was dead. Her fiancé, Natsu. Their friends Cana, Levy, and Lisanna. The reverend Macao Conbolt and his wife Enno. Even the organ player, Azuma. Their bodies were littered around her, not that she could see any of them.

Her long blonde hair was drenched in sweat and matted with blood, her bangs sticking to her forehead. Her face was so bruised that one of her eyes had swollen closed, not to mention the blood and sweat seeping into her eyes or the tears pouring from them. Not just her face, but her body was adorned was cuts and bruises. Through it all, as she lay on the floor, Lucy's hands protectively wrapped over her stomach.

She was panting and exhausted, but she was terrified that if she closed her eyes, she'd never open them again. She couldn't make out anything with her one good eye, only able to see blurs. Given the fading light, she wasn't sure if the sun was setting or if she was losing consciousness. No. It was only getting dark. She wasn't going unconscious, because she could clearly hear footsteps clicking against the floor. Slowly growing louder, getting closer.

It was him! Slowly, rage began to mix in with her pain and terror. How could he have done this to her?! She hoped their history would have granted a reprieve of any kind had their paths crossed again. Instead, he betrayed her in a way that cut deep; deeper than her wounds. And given how bad those wounds really fucking hurt, that was saying something.

She tried to summon up what strength she had left to glare, unsure if she pulled it off or not. All she could see was a shadowy blur standing over her.

"Do you find me sadistic?" His deep, melodic voice asked, finally breaking the silence.

Lucy only panted in response. Every gasp and breathe stung. She could just make out his shape getting closer. Unable to move, all she could do was turn her head to the side. Fresh tears began to spill from her eyes as she felt something soft on her face. He was actually dabbing some of the blood away with a handkerchief. A sick caricature of concern.

"I'll bet I could fry an egg on your head right about now." He continued when she didn't answer. His touch only sickened her, sending a shiver down her mangled body.

Given how close his blurry silhouette was, he was still kneeling over. Once, Lucy loved hearing him speak. But now, his monologuing sickened her. She only saw it as a bastard who just liked to hear himself talk.

"You know, Lucy, I'd like to believe that you are aware enough, even now, to know that there is nothing sadistic about my actions."

"Well, maybe towards those other jokers." Turning her head back to look at him– big mistake, ow!– Lucy watched as his blurred shape rose back to his feet. "But not you. Never you."

She couldn't see what he was doing, but she could hear the rustling of fabric. He must have reached into his coat. "No, Lucy."

Lucy's body went cold when she picked up a sound she was all too familiar with. A light clanking sound followed by a metallic click. The loading and cocking of a gun.

"This is me at my most masochistic."

Terror filled Lucy's body again. If she wanted to not only survive, but to live, she had one move left to make. A secret she'd planned to never share. But she hoped to god, it would save her life.

"Rogue..." she gasped his name out, "It's your ba– "

She never finished.

BANG!

Just a few things to say.

1. I don't know why I decided to do this as a RoLu story. If I'm being honest, I can ship Lucy with practically anyone and have a fun time. NaLu is my OTP. But I also like LoLu & StiLu, and I love LaLu just to name a few. There's another reason in particular why I went with RoLu, but I don't want to spoil it.

2. Expect chapters of WILDLY VARYING LENGTH. In terms of adaptation, this story has A LOT of time skips, flashbacks, and flash forwards. It's easier in the long run to make many of those instances their own chapters rather than trying to fit them together like they are in the source. Also, I think making some of those their own chapters will make for better flow.

Feed back is always appreciated.
