Bella knew she had made the wrong choice the moment she woke up from her transformation. The love she thought she felt for Edward had turned out to be his allure. Once she was a vampire the allure no longer worked. He had never wanted to turn her and if it hadn't been for Aro sending Jane, Felix, Alec, and Demetri after they were married then he wouldn't have turned her at all. The Volturi didn't care that she was pregnant. They didn't care that she'd be turned afterwards anyway. They demanded that the Cullen's turn her without delay. Once the venom entered her blood stream she immediately miscarried. Her baby looked like it was about six months along instead of the three weeks she'd been pregnant. She knew then that something broke inside of her.
Once she woke up she demanded Edward stay away from her. She was offered a position in the Volturi Guard, but she didn't plan to live long enough to fulfill the obligation so she declined. She stayed long enough with the Cullen's to get through her newborn year and over her extreme bloodlust before she took off in the middle of the night. She knew her future would disappear once she made her decision, but Alice was out hunting with Jasper and Edward couldn't read her mind to know what she was planning.
It took her two days to run to Forks, but as soon as she hit the town's limits she took to the trees. She knew the wolves would still be patrolling so she didn't want them to know she was here before she was ready. She had the lighter fluid and the lighter, but she needed to gather the wood she would need. She wanted driftwood, but knew that would take too long so she settled for the wood that was on the ground near the cliffs in LaPush. She knew the minute the wolves smelled her scent because of the howl that went up through the early morning sky. It wasn't long before a few of them showed up.
"Bella? What are you doing here? Don't you know this is violating the treaty?" She recognized Quil's voice.
"Don't worry Quil. I won't be here much longer." She responded as she went about setting up the bonfire.
"What are you doing here leech?" Paul asked with a snarl.
"I came to the very place where my life ended for the first time. I figured this would be a memorable spot." She stated as she poured the lighter fluid on the wood before lighting a stick and setting it against the soaked wood that immediately caught on fire.
"What the hell are you talking about Bella?" She heard Jacob growl out. That was the one voice she was hoping she wouldn't hear.
"You were right all along Jake. I knew that from the time he came back into my life, but there was nothing I could do. I was already on the Volturi's radar and there was no getting out of it. It was either be changed or killed and I should have gone with the second option. I got pregnant after my honeymoon and the Volturi came before I could give birth. They made Edward turn me and I lost my baby. It was a little girl." She said as she sobbed and watched the flames.
"I'm sorry about that Bells, but you know what this means. You've violated the treaty and we only have one option." Jake said with sadness in his voice. She knew he didn't want to be the one to destroy her.
"Don't worry Jake. I'd never make you destroy me. I just wanted to be in the last place I was ever truly happy. That day we went cliff diving with the pack. It was the last time I was truly happy. I love you Jake. I hope you've found happiness and if you haven't yet I hope you do soon." She said before she bit her wrists and walked into the fire.
~oOOo~
Jacob couldn't believe what he was witnessing. The woman he loved with all his heart was a vampire and she just walked into the fire she had built on the cliff. He went to move forward, but was stopped by Sam and Paul.
"She wanted this Jake. You could see in her eyes that she was miserable." Jared told him.
They watched as she burned completely. She never made a sound. The last thing to burn was her head and Jacob noticed she had a smile on her face.
"Hey man. There's a backpack here. There's some letters in here. One's addressed to you man." Quil said as he looked through the backpack.
Jacob quickly snatched the letter and opened it.
Jacob,
I'm sorry I did this on pack territory, but I really just wanted to be in the last place I was ever truly happy. If you could gather my ashes and give them to Charlie I would really appreciate it. He deserves to know that I've been laid to rest and I'm finally truly happy.
I wanted to let you know that as soon as Edward's allure was lifted from me I realized that I loved you with all my heart and that I had made the wrong choice, but the allure wouldn't allow me to do anything that Edward didn't want me to do. It is only supposed to be used on humans that they planned on eating, but he had started to use it on me the first day he came back from his week away after we first met. It was a test, an experiment for him to see if he had enough control on his bloodlust. It was the ultimate test. I was his singer, which means my blood was the most potent to him that he'd ever met. Carlisle figured if he could resist me then he could resist anybody. The only one that had nothing to do with any of this was Jasper. He had no idea what was going on until he felt my feelings when I woke up from the change. He has since left the Cullen's and will never step foot in Washington again if that is the pack's wish.
I expect the Cullen's will be coming back to Forks to look for me as I left a letter for Edward stating where I had gone. Show him the memory of me killing myself or this letter if you wish. This was all his fault. Carlisle had said that you probably would have imprinted on me if it wasn't for the allure, but because of it my mind and soul weren't my own. I'm sorry if this hurts you, but I needed you to know the truth. The Cullen's have broken the treaty in so many ways. They don't deserve to live, especially Edward and Alice. They killed me the moment they took an interest in me a little over three years ago.
I wanted you to know how much I love you and how much I've missed you since the day I woke up to this new half-life. You were right all along when you said I'd be better off dead. I'm finally taking your advice.
With all my love,
Isabella Marie Swan
Jacob couldn't believe what she had written to him. She had loved him and wanted him. He probably would have imprinted on her if it wasn't for Cullen. He knew it deep down in his soul that he would have. He'd always known it if he was honest with himself.
"What did she say Jacob?" Sam questioned. Jacob wondered what emotions had played across his face as he read her letter. He simply handed Sam the letter and walked closer to the fire that had since gone out.
"I can't believe they would do this to her. What the hell?!" Seth yelled as he read the letter over Sam's shoulders. Jacob had to hide a laugh as he hadn't heard Seth really cuss in a while.
"She was right though Jacob. They broke the treaty by biting her and in so many other ways. We also need to address the other thing she wrote on here. You're never going to imprint Jacob. You can get with any girl you want. Bella was your imprint." Sam said and as soon as he said it I felt this weight in my heart. It was very painful.
"I know she was. I feel it now. There's a giant hole where my heart should be." Jacob said and the others nodded.
"I really don't know what this will mean Jacob. I don't know how long you can live without her. I think the only reason you've been able to for this long is because you knew she was still out there alive somewhere." Sam said and it made sense. He could see that it did, but he was having a hard time thinking around the pain.
"We need to call a pack meeting and speak to the Elders. They need to know that the original treaty has been violated." Sam said and we all phased.
~oOOo~
Sam could see the confusion in Billy's eyes. The Elders weren't usually present in front of all the pack, but he felt it was necessary just this once.
"What's the meaning of this Sam?" Billy asked Sam and he knew he had to tell the Chief the truth, including everything to do with his son, but first he was going to show him the letter from Bella Swan.
"I think you all should read this letter. We had a vampire on our lands this morning." Sam informed them and Old Quil was the first to speak.
"Is the demon taken care of?" He asked and that had the pack growling. Not all of them liked Bella, but Sam knew they all felt sorry for her now. Her life had been taken too young and it wasn't her fault. They had to rethink their opinion of her now because her actions weren't her own.
"The vampire was Isabella Swan and she committed suicide by fire in front of us. She said she wanted to be in the last place she ever truly felt happy, which was with us when we had gone cliff diving before her graduation on one of the many times she escaped to us." Sam informed the Elders with a growl in his voice.
"This changes things. They took that young woman's life from her. I always wondered why she would never listen to me. The Isabella Swan I knew would have never disrespected me like that. She always said she saw me as another father." Billy said and Sam could see the tears in his eyes.
"What do you want to do Alpha?" Sue Clearwater asked.
"There is only one thing we can do. We attack the moment they set foot in Forks again. Not only is the treaty void, but Jacob is now feeling the imprint bond. He is feeling the effects of his imprint being dead." Sam said as he looked at Jacob. The boy was paler than he should be, but he knew that he'd have enough strength to take out his enemy and then he had no idea what was going to happen to Jacob. All the legends said a wolf couldn't live without their imprint, but they hadn't fully imprinted, but from what he could see Jacob was definitely feeling the effects.
"How long do you think it will be before they arrive?" Billy asked.
"According to Bella's letter it shouldn't be long. You know Edward never let her out of his sight for long. The longest she was able to get away from him when she was human was a weekend when she'd spend it with us." Jared answered.
"Edward Cullen will die, even if it's the last thing I ever do. I'll avenge the life he stole from my Bella." Jacob growled out and Sam knew he was serious.
Two days later…
It's been two days since Bella committed suicide on the cliffs. Sam knew Jacob missed her more and more every day, but there was nothing any of them could do about it. We'd spent the last two days in the clearing where the newborn battle took place. We stayed in wolf form so we would be ready to take down these bastards. We knew Edward could read our thoughts, but the pixie was blind to our movements which would make it easier to take her down. We also knew Mom and Pop Cullen were pacifist and wouldn't want to hurt any of us, or so we hoped. The biggest challenges would be the big one and the mind reader.
I hear footsteps Sam Jared said through their mind link and Sam acknowledged it. Within a few minutes the Cullen's, minus the blonde soldier, were in front of them.
"They're mourning Carlisle. It seems Bella walked into a fire on the cliffs like she planned. That's a pity." The mind reader said and Sam had a feeling he got that out of one of the pup's heads. They were still pretty traumatized seeing Bella do that. They had liked her before she became a leech.
Read this Edward. The treaty is void. You bit a human. Not only that, but you toyed with her life. Sam sent to the asshole.
"Sam says the treaty is void. They plan to wipe us out." Edward translated and then went straight for him. Sam, knowing he only had a split second, bit the asshole's hand clean off. He saw out of the corner of his eye that Jacob went for his head, but missed.
"I'll kill you filthy mutts. If it wasn't for you Bella would have been happy." Edward hissed and Sam rolled his eyes. The leech was delusional.
She never would have been happy. He thought to him. He knew it was true. It would have been the same outcome as it was this time.
"She would have been…" But he didn't get to finish because Jacob finally found his mark and removed his head from his body.
"NOOOO!" Was heard throughout the clearing and the tiny pixie one jumped onto Jacob's back. Sam watched as her teeth sunk into the flesh on his shoulder and Jacob howled out his pain.
Shit that fucking hurts. Was heard throughout the pack mind and that's when Leah pounced on the little shit removing the pixie's head from her body.
Sam looked around the clearing and noticed everyone was in pieces. He quickly phased human to start a fire and check on Jacob. He knew it wouldn't be long before Jacob succumbed to the venom that the bitch put into his system. He wanted to spare him that pain, but there was nothing he could do for it. Vampire venom was poison to their system.
"Light a fire Jared and burn everyone." Sam ordered as he walked closer to Jacob, who had reverted to human, but before he got there he saw someone he thought he'd never see again. Bella was kneeling next to him, but she was almost transparent.
"Hello Sam." She whispered as her fingers gently caressed Jacob's forehead.
"How are you here Bella?" Sam questioned.
"Taha Aki let me come retrieve Jacob's soul. It's his time. Unfortunately, Jacob and I were never meant to live long. If I hadn't met the Cullen's I would have died within my first two weeks here. There was an accident in the parking lot of the school during the first snowfall. A van skidded out of control and it would have caught me between my truck and the van. I would have died of massive internal bleeding. Jacob would have died the moment he phased the first time from the broken imprint bond. Apparently, your wolves know if your imprint has died." Bella told them and Sam nodded. It sounded right. It was probably why Jacob's wolf never forced him to take the Alpha position. It knew he wouldn't be there long enough to lead the pack properly.
Sam's thoughts were interrupted by a scream that tore from Jacob's throat.
"I'm so sorry baby. It'll be over soon and then we'll have paradise. I promise. I've seen our paradise." Bella whispered to Jacob and it caused Sam's eyes to tear up.
Another scream was heard throughout the clearing and Sam realized it came from Paul.
"What happened?!" Sam growled out, but he noticed the bite mark on Paul's arm.
"The damn leech can apparently still bite even if their head is detached." Jared answered for his best friend.
"Bring him over here." Bella demanded. Sam realized that for a ghost she was a bit scary.
"He'll die like Jacob, won't he?" Leah asked. Everyone could see the sadness on her face. The two were the biggest hotheads around and they had bonded over that.
"Yes, once the venom is in his system there's no getting it out. If it wasn't much it may be able to be sucked out, but that could only be done by another vampire. The moment the venom touched your tongues it would poison you." Bella answered as she smoothed her hand over Paul's sweating forehead.
"I'm sorry I was so nasty to you Swan." Paul whispered before another scream tore out of his throat. You could see where the venom traveled through his veins. They were a mean red color and bulging. The wound on his arm was sizzling.
"It's all in the past now, LaHote. I've forgiven you long before now. You're a very brave man and you were protecting your people. We'll have eternity to get to know each other. There's a giant pack house waiting for us and it'll be there when the others join us as well."
It was hours later that Jacob and Paul took their final breaths only minutes apart from each other. As that happened the pack watched as their spirits lifted from their bodies and they both hugged Bella. Jacob looked so happy to be back in Bella's arms.
"We'll always be watching over you and the pack Sam. We'll watch for you to join us when it's your time. Take care of Emily and be proud that you've got a son on the way." Bella said as all three slowly disappeared.
"What do we do now Sam?" Jared asked as he looked down at the lifeless body of his best friend.
"We take them home and honor them. They died in battle. There's nothing more honorable than that." Sam said as the pack picked up their fallen brothers, knowing that Jacob had finally found peace and that Paul was in a much better place for him.
