DM Margo's Sick Days Chapter 1
One morning in Gru's house, it was time for the girls to wake up and get ready for school as usual. Edith and Agnes got out of bed and got dressed as they normal. But today Margo didn't want to get up. Her muscles ached she was shivering under her duvet and she didn't even feel hungry for breakfast. "Come on Margo wake up! We've got to have breakfast and got ready for school!" said Edith. ''Yeah, come on'' said Agnes. Margo didn't answer. She just groaned in response and turned over in bed. Not wanting to be late for school themselves, Edith and Agnes quickly headed downstairs for breakfast. They wondered what could be the matter with their sister. She was normally very responsible for getting up on time for school.
In the kitchen. Lucy had made breakfast ready for the girls and was surprised to see one of them had not come down. "Where's Margo?" asked Lucy as Edith and Agnes sat down at the table and ate their breakfast. "She's still in bed" replied Agnes through a mouthful of cereal. Lucy was confused as why Margo was still in bed. She knew that Margo normally got out of bed on time on a school day. "But she'll be late for school!" gasped Lucy. "That's what we tried to tell her, but she just groaned and rolled over Mom'' said Edith as she sipped her juice. Lucy went upstairs to the girls bedroom.
"Margo, what are you doing? It's time to get up, this is so not like you to stay in bed, and you're gonna be late for school!'' she said as she walked in. Margo groaned and looked up at her mom drowsily. "I don't feel well, Mom" she moaned. Lucy felt Margo's head, it was hot and a little sweaty. "I'm afraid you may have a fever Margo. I'll be right back with a thermometer" said Lucy. She left the room and came back with the thermometer. She stuck it in Margo's mouth. "Keep that under your tongue" said Lucy. She waited for a second, then took it out again and looked at the reading. "OMG! It's on 100 degrees!" exclaimed Lucy, "I'm afraid you'll have to stay home from school today'' she told Margo who just sighed. Lucy went back downstairs to tell everyone the news.
''Margo's not well'' she told Gru, Dru, Edith and Agnes, ''She's going to stay home from school and I'm gonna be looking after her. Dru can you walk Edith and Agnes to school please? Gru needs to head off to work in his lab''. ''Sure sister in law'' said Dru, ''Come on girls, we mustn't be late''. Dru headed out the front door with Edith and Agnes. ''Tell Margo we hope she feels better''. ''I will'' promised Lucy. Later as she was giving Margo some medicine for her fever and some juice to drink, Gru came in. ''Uncle Dru is taking Edith and Agnes to school'' he said, ''But he said to tell you that they hope you feel better soon''. ''Thanks'' said Margo weekly. ''I hope you feel better soon too'' said Gru kissing her on the head,
''Now you get some rest young lady''. ''Yes Dad'' said Margo, managing a little smile. ''Now, I've got work to do in de lab'' said Gru to Lucy, ''I hope you'll be able to hold the fort down on your own''. ''Don't worry Gru'' said Lucy, ''I can do it''. They left Margo alone to sleep for a bit while Lucy washed the breakfast dishes and sorted out the laundry. After a bit, Margo woke up feeling board, she got out of bed with her duvet wrapped around her like a cape. ''Mom'' she said, ''I'm bored, can I watch some TV please?''. ''Sure sweetie'' said Lucy, who was sitting down for a quiet cup of tea and a rest. Margo lay curled up on the crocodile couch wrapped up in her duvet and propped up on some spare pillows and switched on the TV.
Lucy made sure Margo was comfortable brought in a tray of cheese and crackers in case she felt hungry. A couple of minutes later, Margo was enjoying some of her favourite movies. Later that afternoon, Edith and Agnes returned from school with Dru. ''Hello Margo how are you feeling?'' asked Agnes. ''I still don't feel so well'' replied Margo. Later that evening, Lucy carried Margo and her duvet back up to her bed in the bedroom she shared with her sisters to get an early night. ''Mom, guess how much I love you'' said Margo as Lucy tucked her in. ''Oh I don't think I could guess that'' said Lucy. ''This much'' said Margo stretching her arms as wide as they would go. Lucy stretched her arms out as wide as she could too. ''But I love you this much'' she said.
''I love you as high as I can reach'' said Margo. ''I love you as high as I can reach too'' said Lucy. She was a tall thin woman so her arms went up quite high. ''I love you as far as the eye can see'' said Margo. ''I love you to the moon and back and beyond'' said Lucy. ''That's very far'' said Margo. She was almost too tired to think anymore and she still wasn't very well so she needed to sleep. Lucy read her a bedtime story, kissed her goodnight and left. A little later, Lucy read Edith and Agnes their bedtime story in the living room on the crocodile couch, then she helped them get into bed quietly so they didn't wake Margo.
