A/N: Hey everyone! I'm trying out using prompts for the first time! Woo! Basically I'm doing Whumptober, but I'm starting late and am almost definitely not gonna be able to get one out a day – I'll do my best to get them out relatively quick though haha. I'm also just doing this for me, so that's why I'm not trying to stick to the time guidelines or get officially credited with completing Whumptober properly.
I've recently read 'VoicesOffCamera's Bucky and Sam oneshots for Whumptober 2021 and absolutely loved it. Definitely recommend checking them out! Some of my writings will probably draw some inspiration from them, just because it's on my mind and they were so good!
I love Bucky as a character (and Sebastian Stan is such a loveable introvert) and I also like the relationship he has with Sam (love Anthony Mackie, he's hilarious). This is gonna have them being purely friends by the way as that's just how I see them.
These are all about Bucky whump, Bucky angst, Bucky getting hurt etc etc.
Some of these will be set during The Falcon and The Winter Solder, while others will be after the show's conclusion.
Anyways if you'd like to show some extra support, you can 'buy me a pencil'. My 'buymeacoffee' username is just 'KJWriting'.
Thanks guys!

Day One
Safety Net | Swooning | "How many fingers am I holding up?"
Walker sent Bucky flying into some kind of electric generator, denting it on impact and sending volts of electricity up his vibranium arm. Bucky screamed out as he felt a searing pain from his left shoulder, where the vibranium base is connected to his flesh. He then fell silent and collapsed limply to the floor.
"Bucky!" Sam screamed out from across the warehouse, preoccupied with his fight against Walker. He was going toe-to-toe with a super soldier that's fuelled with adrenaline. He was losing the battle.
Bucky remained on the ground, semi-conscious. He groaned as a ringing pounded in his head. Suddenly, a vision violently sprung into his mind.
"I didn't see anything, I didn't see anything", the young man stuttered out.
The Winter Soldier raised his arm and pointed the pistol at him.
He looked the other man in the eyes as he pulled the trigger.
When Bucky's vision cleared, he stared at the ground with wide eyes trying to return to the present.
He looked up just in time to see Walker raise Steve's shield above his head with Sam pinned underneath him. Without a second thought, Bucky sprung forward and tackled Walker to the floor.
Eventually, the two ex-soldiers were able to incapacitate John. Bucky picked up the shield and walked over to Sam, who was out of breath and still on the ground looking up at him. He looked Falcon in the eyes for a few seconds, before dropping the shield beside him and walking out of the warehouse.
Slowly, Sam managed to roll over and pick up the bloodied shield. He tried to wipe some of the red off, but he could only smear it.
Bucky made it outside. He took a few steps forward and stopped. Closing his eyes, he tilted his head up to feel the heat from the sun on his face. He just wanted a moment of calm.
"Howard… Howard…" Maria weakly called out from the passenger seat of their crashed car.
Bucky struck the defenceless man in the face until he was dead. He then dragged his body back into the driver's seat and let his head and chest slump against the steering wheel.
The Winter Soldier then made his way around the back of the car toward the crying woman.
Using his bare hand, he grabbed her by the throat and squeezed.
Sam had just made it outside when he saw him. Bucky was on the ground a few feet away, breathing erratically.
"Bucky!" Sam ran up to him and dropped to his knees.
As he reached out to roll him on to his back, he saw his friend's arm and froze. It was twitching wildly with electricity visibly pulsating through the metal. Sam's eyes analysed the rest of his body.
Bucky was breathing erratically. His eyes were completely open and darting around frantically. Sam had never seen him look so stressed. So alarmed. So… scared?
After a few more seconds Bucky's arm stilled, his eyes closed, and his breathing slowed to a healthier speed.
Sam was finally able to roll him onto his back.
"Bucky?" Nothing. "Buck?"
A groan escaped Bucky's lips as he finally came to. Sam had an arm on his chest as his eyes opened.
"Are you okay Buck?" he asked.
"I'm fine, Sam." Sam scoffed at that answer.
"Are you?" The Falcon stared at his friend. Bucky sat up, using his right arm to lean back on. "How many fingers am I holding up?" Sam asked.
Bucky stared at him, unimpressed.
"Just answer the damn question."
"Three. Four if you count your thumb." Clearly somewhat satisfied, Sam stood up and offered his hand out. Bucky took it and climbed to his feet. He swayed slightly.
"You're so not fine." Bucky side-eyed him, but Sam ignored it. "What the hell just happened to you?"
"It must have been the electricity from before."
"Well, that much is obvious. I'm talking about what you were seeing."
Bucky didn't give him an answer. He just stared at the ground.
"Whatever it is," Sam continued. "You know you can tell me, right?"
Bucky considered his words for a second. "I killed a lot of people, Sam."
"That's not news, Buck. You weren't yourself."
"I know, but I still did it." A few seconds of silence passed. "They used to use electricity to… fry my brain. Erase me." Sam stared at him, but Bucky wouldn't meet his eyes. His words were dripping in pain. "I think the electricity just pulled me back. It was justlike the nightmares."
Sam stopped staring. He turned so that he and Bucky were facing the same direction, shoulders side by side.
"You're not alone in this, Buck." Bucky slightly tilted his head in Sam's direction, eyes still looking down. "Not anymore." Sam continued, putting his arm around his friend, so his hand was grabbing Bucky's far shoulder. "I know I'm not Steve. Steve is gone."
Bucky took a deep breath and sighed. "But I've got your back, and I'm not going anywhere."
Sam gave Bucky's shoulder a pat before dropping his arm. The two locked eyes for a moment and Bucky gave a small nod.
Sam started walking forward, calling out over his shoulder. "C'mon cyborg. We need to get that arm of yours looked at."
Bucky couldn't help but form a small smile.
