Chapter One: A New Rider
"Yeah mom I just arrived. I'll call you when I get Amber settled in and get my stuff unpacked." Alexis says as she gets off her cell phone and gets out of the truck.
"I'll stay put until you get your horse and things out but you take it easy now dear." The woman driver says as she looks at Alexis.
"Don't worry ma'am. I will and thank you for driving me and Amber here." Alexis says kindly.
"No problem dear." The woman says as Alexis goes around to the trailer and opens it.
"Come on Amber girl." Alexis says as she begins leading Amber out of the trailer.
"Hey. I'm glad you got here safely." A voice says revealing to be a boy.
"Oh hi. I'm sorry but who are you?" Alexis asks.
"My name is Bailey. My folks own this place. I take it your Alexis and this is your horse Amber?" The boy asks kindly as he looks at Amber.
"Yeah. How'd you know?" Alexis asks curiously.
"My folks said we'd be getting a new rider and a very spirited horse today." Bailey says as he chuckles.
"Oh yeah. My girl here has a pretty wild spirit. But don't worry she's fine when she gets to know you." Alexis says as Amber neighs happily.
"You want some help?" Bailey asks curiously.
"If you don't mind. Can you grab my bags? I'll get my horse out." Alexis says.
"Not a problem. Can you get your horse's gear?" Bailey asks as he begins getting Alexis's bags out of the truck.
"Amber doesn't have any gear. She prefers to be ridden without a saddle. The only thing close to a rein I've ever gotten on her has been this rope." Alexis says as she gestures to the rope around Amber's neck.
"You ride bare back?" Bailey asks curiously as Alexis shuts the trailer door.
"Of course. I find it builds a deeper connection between the rider and their horse." Alexis says a Bailey finishes getting Alexis's bags out of the truck as it pulls away.
"That's pretty cool." Bailey says as he smiles.
"Thanks." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.
"Is this everything?" Bailey asks.
"Yeah. Thanks for your help." Alexis says.
"Not a problem. So have you had experience riding in competitions?" Bailey asks curiously.
"Yes. Several back home. I'm a show jumper and racer. I've met very few that can keep up with Amber or jump as high as her." Alexis says.
"Sounds pretty interesting. You think maybe you and I could have some friendly competition one day. My horse Aztec is pretty fast." Bailey says as he smiles confidently.
"Sure. Sounds fun. So are there others around here?" Alexis asks as she looks around.
"Yeah. My friends are out on a trail ride right now but I can introduce you to them later." Bailey says.
"That sounds nice." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.
"Hey once you get settled in would you and Amber wanna go for a ride with me and Aztec? I could show you around?" Bailey asks curiously.
"I'd like that. It sounds fun." Alexis says happily.
"And we could race a little too." Bailey says happily.
"Okay but don't expect us to go easy on you." Alexis says as she chuckles.
"Fine by me. We can keep up easily." Bailey says happily.
"I guess we'll see then." Alexis says as she smiles.
"Definitely. Anyway come on. I'll show you to the stables and then we'll head inside to your room while you're staying." Bailey says as he smiles as Alexis and Amber follow him.
