Three strange looking, but amusing (because of some striking golden crests) hens were walking leisurely in the woods in search of food.
"Coc co co co coc..."
The three birds pecked the ground in search of worms or insects to eat.
"Coc?"
An imaginary question mark appeared above their heads as they heard a noise, so they raised their gazes focusing them on a particular bush.
The bush suddenly started running towards them.
"COC!" The three hens exclaimed in horror as out of the bush came a boy who then clenched his right hand into a fist, which he used to punch the three birds in vital spots.
{CRAC! X3}
When the boy finished hunting for lunch, he kept the three hens and a wild boar (which he happened to find a while before) inside a magic storage seal that his grandfather had taught him.
"My name is DarkRock Wolford." The boy introduced himself to the readers with a friendly tone.
DarkRock Wolford (8), is a boy with tousled spiky black hair that reaches almost to his shoulders along with two locks framing his forehead and dark charcoal eyes, he is of a semi tan complexion. His attire consists of simple clothing consisting of brown pants, a moss green shirt that flared at the neck and a brown vest along with leather boots of the same color.
"I live in this forest with my grandfather," DarkRock commented with a smile and his gaze fixed on the sky.
After that, the boy with tousled black spiky hair started running at high speed towards the house where he lives next to his grandfather, but to get to that place he first had to cross a large part of the forest.
"I have some blurred memories of my mother like her... warmth... her smell... her beautiful voice... but I can't remember her face..." murmured DarkRock to the readers in a low voice with evident sadness.
The dark-eyed boy with eyes as dark as coal jumped with great agility between the trees for quite a while, until he finally reached a straight dirt road that allowed him to get directly to his adoptive grandfather's house.
"I'm back!" announced DarkRock loudly to the person inside the wooden house.
"Oh, welcome back," the old man said once he opened the door and was met with the bright smile of his adopted grandson. "How did your hunt go today?" He asked with a touch of curiosity as to which animal his adopted grandson had hunted today.
The Earth-bred Saiyajin smiled broadly at the old man.
"This old man is Merlin Wolford," DarkRock explained to the readers with an amused tone.
Merlin Wolford, is an old man (60) with white hair and a long silver beard that reaches his neck. His clothing consists of a brown wizard's robe and black boots.
Our beloved protagonist had to run away from the wrath of his grandfather for calling him 'old man', who cast a fire spell on him which he obviously dodged with no trouble.
"He found me when I was a baby, I was all alone in the forest about to be attacked by a demon, but he saved me and also killed the bear demon with his magical powers. He obviously adopted me and raised me as his grandson, I owe him my life!" exclaimed DarkRock to the readers with a wide, happy smile.
After his grandfather calmed down, the boy with tousled black spiky hair used his storage magic to let out the hunted animals inside and followed by dropping them to the dirt floor.
"Wow, three chickens and a boar?" asked Merlin without surprise because this was already normal for him.
The Saiyan nodded his head with a smile.
"It's not good to overhunt, is it?" said DarkRock with crossed arms and a proud expression.
The mage noticed something about the animals that made him shudder a little.
"Yes... you're right. You used your brute strength again though, didn't you?" asked Merlin with a frown.
The charcoal-dark-eyed boy froze in place at his grandfather's words.
"Well... I... Yes," DarkRock admitted with a small blush of embarrassment on his cheeks.
The old wizard let out a sigh at his adopted grandson's response.
"Anyway..." Merlin paused a bit dramatically. "You did a good job, DarkRock," he complimented with a fatherly smile that caused the boy to drop his embarrassed expression.
Our beloved protagonist was a little surprised at the words of the man he considered a father.
"Thank you, grandfather," DarkRock said with a wide smile that exposed his shining white teeth.
The old wizard remembered something that made him put aside the boy's problem with his superhuman strength.
"So, how about your fire magic or your wind magic?" asked Merlin again with a curious expression.
The Saiyan put aside his thoughts and concentrated on his grandfather's question.
"Pretty good, I think," DarkRock replied with a smile and a thumbs up.
The wizard raised an eyebrow, more curious at his grandson's response.
"We'll see about that..." whispered Merlin with an amused tone. "DarkRock, light that," he pointed to where there was a pile of kindling.
The coal-dark-eyed boy nodded his head and then raised his right arm with outstretched hand towards where the pile of firewood lay, where a strange magical sign formed and cast a sort of spear of fire that consumed the wood until it was nothing but ashes.
"A bit excessive, but quite good," Merlin opined with his left hand on his chin with a thoughtful look. "Now put out that fire with the wind," he commanded with interest in how his grandson handled the different types of magic.
Our beloved protagonist again nodded his head smoothly.
"Magic is very easy to use... you just have to visualize it with your mind and that's it," DarkRock explained again to the curious readers.
After that, the boy with tousled black spiky hair quickly moved his left hand and smoothly extinguished the fire by creating a tornado of icy wind that smothered the fire.
"Excellent, DarkRock! Good job!" congratulated Merlin loudly to his beloved grandson with a smile of pure pride.
The Saiyan was overjoyed at his grandfather's praise.
"Thank you, grandfather!" thanked DarkRock with a smile, though he suddenly noticed a pair of energies quite familiar to him. "Look! Here come Grandma Melida and Michel!" he exclaimed loudly.
The old wizard bristled at the mention of 'Grandma Melida'.
"DarkRock, you should not only learn magic and play alone in the forest. You should also study some magical equipment and swordsmanship," Merlin advised with a smile twisted in fear of being beaten by a certain woman.
The dark-eyed charcoal boy tilted his head with a confused expression at his grandfather's nervousness, but quickly dropped it for a happy expression.
"Yes!" agreed DarkRock loudly, quite excited at the thought of learning new things.
A moment later
Our beloved protagonist froze in place the moment he was confronted by his grandmother.
"You hunted a wild boar!" exclaimed an old woman in obvious disbelief. "DarkRock, how could you do something so dangerous!" she demanded loudly with a rather annoyed, but also very concerned tone.
The boy with tousled black spiky hair swallowed spittle at the old hag's fury.
"This is Melida Bowen. She's a friend of Grandpa's, and she usually comes to visit," DarkRock informed the readers with an amused tone and a bead of anime-style sweat sliding down his forehead at the powerful murderous energy emanating from the adult woman.
Melida Bowen (Nickname: 'Guru'), is an elderly woman (60) who wears a pair of glasses, a black robe and a pointed hat, and emits the aura of a "witch". She is tall in stature (5'7"), attractive in appearance and has an incredible sense of style. Her typical formal attire is that of a distinguished white robe with dark purple trim.
The Saiyan plucked up the courage to say the following to his angry grandmother.
"It's not that dangerous," DarkRock opined with a slight shrug. "I have this magical equipment we made together, plus I'm very strong" he asserted with a confident tone.
The witch listened in disbelief to her grandson's words.
"My, my. In what world does an 8 year old go boar hunting?" wondered Melida to herself with a small migraine lurking in her mind.
The dark-eyed charcoal boy grew excited at his grandmother's question.
"Here," DarkRock answered innocently and at the same time pointed to himself with the index finger of his right hand.
The old hag gave her grandson a zap on the head, causing him to clutch his head with a wince.
"You idiot!" growled Melida with a very annoyed expression.
A certain wizard decided to intervene to save his grandson from Melinda's wrath.
"You know how skilled DarkRock has become and not only with magic," commented Merlin with crossed arms and a rather calm look, this caused the red-haired woman to avert her gaze towards the elderly guy. "This is like a playground for DarkRock," he said with a small smile.
A middle-aged man enthused at the old magician's words.
"However, being able to hunt a wild boar...! From now on I'm going to turn up the intensity in your training," Michael stated with a bright smile, though he was certainly not prepared for DarkRock's next response.
Michel Collins, is a considerably young man (35) with green eyes and short blond hair. As for his physique, although he did not look muscular, he was not thin either; he has a slim, but well-built figure.
Our dear protagonist's eyes sparkled with joy before the former knight's words.
"Really! Great!" exclaimed DarkRock loudly with obvious excitement and enthusiasm.
The three adults were speechless at the child's question.
Two Years Later
Grandfather and grandson were walking leisurely through the forest in search of demons to eliminate so that the merchants who traveled this road would have a little more security.
"Demon hunting?" asked DarkRock with a curious and somewhat confused tone.
The wizard nodded his head at his grandson's question.
"You're ten years old now, DarkRock. It's time for you to experience what it's like to fight a beast of evil energy," Merlin replied with a serious expression.
When the boy with tousled spiky black hair realized upon hearing his grandfather's last words he was quite shocked.
"... Wait, grandfather. do you mean the beasts with negative energy?" asked DarkRock with a frown because a day ago he easily defeated a couple of these things.
The old wizard was actually curious of his grandson's question, as he noticed some enthusiasm in the latter's voice and wondered if he had seen one.
"Yes, why do you ask, DarkRock?" said Merlin with a touch of suspicion.
The Saiyan looked down at the ground because the next thing he would say was a little secret of his own.
"Well... I think I might have fought a couple of domains and taken them out," DarkRock answered truthfully because he saw no need to lie to the old man.
The wizard stopped dead in his tracks at his grandson's response.
"What...?" said Merlin slowly thinking he had misheard.
The charcoal dark-eyed boy scratched the back of his neck nervously, a tic he had adopted for as long as he could remember.
"I took out several demons... The strongest were a group of bears I faced the other day," DarkRock said, looking straight ahead to avoid seeing his grandfather's expression.
The old wizard was dumbfounded at the exotic black-haired boy's response.
"What? How? When?" Merlin asked question after question with an obviously worried and somewhat shocked expression.
Our beloved protagonist was about to answer his grandfather all his questions, but suddenly stopped dead in his tracks as he sensed something not far from his position.
"Grandfather... There's a demon nearby..." warned DarkRock with a serious expression and without taking his eyes off the front.
The wizard also paused upon hearing his grandson's words and was obviously quite surprised.
"How can you know that, DarkRock? ... You're not using quest magic." Merlin pointed out the obvious because indeed the boy was not using magic.
The boy with tousled black spiky hair without taking his eyes off the front replied to the old wizard as follows:
"I don't know how to explain it, grandfather... But I can feel its corrupt energy... It is malicious, dark and repulsive."
The old wizard nodded his head at his grandson's words, but suddenly his eyes widened as he saw how his grandson was surrounded from head to toe by a strange white energy.
"I see..." muttered Merlin with his gaze on the boy. "If he's not using magic, then... What is it?" he thought with relative curiosity.
Suddenly though, they were both interrupted when something of enormous size crashed a few meters from their position, causing a slight tremor and raising a curtain of dirt and dust.
"I got this, Grandpa!" said DarkRock loudly without caring who his enemy was.
The wizard was very concerned for his grandson's safety, as his enemy was not just any demon, but one he hadn't seen in several years.
"Wait, DarkRock is very dangerous! He's a demonic minotaur!" shouted Merlin at the top of his lungs and was about to intervene to save the boy, but something happened that made him stop in his tracks.
The next thing that happened was something out of fantasy itself in the old wizard's opinion? His grandson was levitating/flying at great speed around the mighty monster! Something that was practically impossible. Besides, he started talking to himself again.
"Go beyond your limits, DarkRock!"
The Saiyan gathered a lot of the unknown energy in his entire body, but concentrated a large part of it in his right hand and combined it with wind magic causing a great pressure on the spot, to the point that even the demonic minotaur stopped his war cry and instead backed up several steps, totally terrified and confused at the power surge that only came from a brat.
"PLUS ULTRA!" said DarkRock with all his might as he impacted his fist into the unprotected stomach of his enemy, who never had a chance to defend himself, let alone return the attack.
The demonic minotaur's body could not withstand the boy's level of power, so it exploded in a bloody mass that stained the trees and the dirt road with visors, bones and fresh blood.
"Impossible..." whispered Merlin dumbfounded at the incredible feat of his grandson because just like the minotaur he could feel the pressure of the powerful physical attack, which was so powerful that he calculated that it could destroy a mountain without problems.
The boy with eyes as dark as coal approached the wizard who was pale as a ghost.
"Grandfather? Old man? Old man?" DarkRock called by different synonyms to the powerful wizard, until he managed to get his attention. "What did you think? Did I do well?" he asked in the hope that he had done the man proud that he saw him as a father.
It took a few seconds for the wizard to become aware of his grandson's presence.
"Oh... I'm sorry, DarkRock. I was in the clouds," Merlin replied sincerely because what happened moments ago was not something that happens every day. "You did it perfectly, it couldn't have been done better," he assured with a small proud smile.
Our beloved protagonist was overjoyed at his grandfather's words.
"Really, our demon hunt was successful?" asked DarkRock very excited.
The old wizard nodded his head at his grandson's question.
"Of course," Merlin replied with the same smile. "Although I think you went a little too far..." he thought with his gaze on the place where before there was a demon worth fearing.
The grin of the boy with tousled black spiky hair grew wider.
"YES!" exclaimed DarkRock with his right fist in the air in victory.
The wizard smiled at his grandson's happiness.
"By the way, DarkRock... What was that you combined with your wind magic?" asked Merlin very curious because he had to admit that that energy was possibly more powerful than magic... at least in powerful techniques, but that would have to see as the boy grew up because it was still too early to draw conclusions.
The Saiyan's eyes sparkled with excitement at his grandfather's question.
"Oh, that! I combined wind magic with this energy that from now on I'll call 'Ki', the result was that super punch that defeated that demon", DarkRock answered very excited because something in his blood demanded him to fight against strong subjects or monsters.
The old wizard listened carefully to his grandson and nodded his head at his answer.
"So you'll call him 'Ki'...? It's not a bad name, and it's easy to remember," Merlin admitted with a thoughtful expression.
Grandfather and grandson continued chatting about this energy called 'Ki', where the latter explained to him that it felt completely different from magic and also swore to keep all this a secret from strangers, including about the new and powerful energy... at least for now.
In The Night
Certain old heroes of the Earlshide Kingdom were debating about their grandson.
"DarkRock had already defeated demons of that level!" exclaimed Melida in obvious disbelief.
The wizard nodded his head at his ex-wife's question.
"Yes... And he proved it to me when he so easily defeated that demonic minotaur..." replied Merlin quietly as he remembered that powerful punch from his grandson. "I didn't even get a chance to back him up," he revealed with his eyes closed because if he had entered the fight it is possible that he would have been an obstacle for the boy.
Both Michael and the witch froze at the old wizard's words.
"Good heavens... Who is that boy?" said Melida with a somewhat weary sigh. "The speed with which he masters magic is extraordinary... And that super punch you spoke of makes his physical strength unrivaled by any other," she commented with a migraine forming in her head.
Merlin was strangely silent at the pink-haired woman's words.
"Even Michel's abilities..." whispered Melida with her gaze on the former knight, who in response looked at the floor rather thoughtfully. "And as for the incantations, he does them as if it were second nature... It's like he's from another world," she opined with her eyes closed.
At this point, Merlin was sweating from nervousness and fear of his secret being discovered.
"W-Well, that doesn't matter... Anyway, he sees me as his 'grandfather'... I can't help but adore him. I think of him as my grandson," Merlin assured with absolute certainty.
Both Michael and the old witch listened in silence to the wizard's words.
"Wow... I can't believe I hear that from the man they once called 'God of Destruction'..." commented Melida with a mocking expression.
The old wizard blushed slightly at his ex-wife's words.
Meanwhile, Michael listened silently with an amused expression as he saw another couple fight going on in front of him.
"Would you stop that? You'll make me remember the past..." muttered Merlin with a slight blush.
Melida chuckled at her ex-husband's reaction.
"And now, you're a wise man," Michael added with an amused smile.
Merlin's blush deepened at the former Knight Commodore's words.
"I adore the boy too, as do you," Melida said with her right hand on her heart. "I may only be able to come here from time to time, but I also think of him as my grandson," she stated quite emotionally.
Both Merlin and Michael stared in amazement and surprise at the heroine witch.
The next day
Both DarkRock and Michel trained morning melee attacks with swords where the boy most of the time took a big advantage, but the adult obviously with his years of experience could evade it and maintain a very good defense.
"Th-that's enough for today, DarkRock... I'm going to rest a bit," Michel said with an obvious tired tone because without a doubt the boy was getting stronger and faster, so he was obviously overcoming him and the scale was getting more and more uneven.
Our beloved protagonist nodded his head at the former knight's request.
"Of course, Michel-sensei," DarkRock agreed smoothly, while at the same time putting away his sword in its respective sheath.
A certain hero mage approached the duo with an expression that was hard to explain... He looked worried and serious at the same time.
"Finished training?" asked Merlin with a calm expression, as he was still deep in thought.
Michael nodded his head in exhaustion as he put away his sword in its respective place.
"Yes! It's so much fun to train with Michel-sensei," DarkRock replied with a smile, while at the same time watching as the green-eyed blond leaned against a tree to rest for a while.
"Hahaha! That's typical of you, DarkRock," Merlin opined with considerable amusement at his adopted grandson's positivity. "We need to talk anyway," he said with a serious tone.
DarkRock looked up, rather curiously, meeting his adoptive grandfather's calm but serious gaze.
A Moment Later
Grandfather and grandson were standing on a hill with a great view of the forest and beyond, the former revealed something to the latter that left him shocked.
"Am I not your real grandson?" asked DarkRock with a confused tone.
The old wizard nodded his head.
"Yes... I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner," Merlin replied with a sad and somewhat frightened expression for fear of how the boy might react to his delicate revelation.
The coal-dark-eyed boy lowered his gaze to the ground.
"I see... But anyway... I already knew that," DarkRock admitted quietly with his eyes on the bright green grass.
Merlin was silently observing the boy's reaction and was no doubt very surprised by how calmly he was taking this news along with the fact that he somehow already knew his revelation... He was certainly very mature for his young age.
"By the way... Who are my parents, where were they from?" asked DarkRock sadly, as he thought they had abandoned him because they didn't want him.
The old hero didn't know what to make of these questions because he really didn't know much.
"Being honest, DarkRock. I don't know..." Merlin replied with a defeated sigh. "The only thing I found that day in the forest was you and that strange sphere-shaped thing made of metal" he said with embarrassment for not having more answers from his adopted grandson's parents.
Those words clicked in the brain of our beloved protagonist.
"I see..." accepted DarkRock calmly his adoptive grandfather's answer.
The wizard was undoubtedly surprised that the boy wasn't crying or at least sad.
"You're taking this very calmly, DarkRock," Merlin pointed out with an expression somewhere between confused and curious for wanting to know the cause of it.
The spiky black haired boy shrugged for the first time in his life something that would become natural to his personality from now on.
"Hmm... Well, I don't know what to think about my parents... Because I don't remember them, at least not at all," DarkRock answered truthfully as the few things he remembered were the warmth, smell and voice of his mother. "Besides, I have you, grandfather," he said with a wide smile as he took his gaze off the grass and focused it on the old magical hero.
The surprise on Merlin's face was undoubtedly huge because he hadn't expected her to still consider him part of her family after telling him the truth that he was adopted.
"I also have Grandma Melida, and Michel-sensei... I've never felt lonely," DarkRock affirmed with the same smile on his lips.
The old wizard stared at his grandson dumbfounded not expecting those words.
"DarkRock..." whispered Merlin without knowing what to say about it.
The Saiyan braced himself for what he would say next:
"So, grandfather... Thank you for picking me up. I'm happy to have been adopted by you," assured DarkRock very grateful and with his eyes closed.
The wizard couldn't take it anymore and let the tears he had been holding back escape.
"DarkRock...!" said Merlin between tears of happiness, and then he began to cry with joy.
A bead of anime-style sweat trickled down the forehead of the spiky black-haired boy at his adoptive grandfather's reaction, but he smiled all the same and gave the old man a hug.
Five Years Later
Our beloved protagonist looked at his guests with a smile because today was his birthday.
"Our hero's grandson, Merlin, just turned fifteen, and has reached adulthood."
The teenager with tousled black spiky hair blushed slightly at the blond-haired guy's words.
"He's my Uncle Dis," DarkRock said to keep the curious readers informed.
The man (40) known as 'Uncle Dis' (Real Name: 'Diseum Von Earlshide') has a fair complexion and his height is 5'11". He has golden hair, mustache and emerald green eyes. His attire consists of high quality clothing for his position as King of the Kingdom of Earlshide.
"And so, to celebrate DarkRock's 15th birthday and his coming of age, Cheers!" said Dis loudly with his champagne glass held high.
Everyone present, including DarkRock mimicked the blond-haired man and said a loud 'Cheers'.
"To think that exotic black-haired baby would grow up to be a man," Melida commented with a nostalgic tone as she focused her gaze on DarkRock, who had begun to quickly taste the food on the table.
The old wizard nodded his head at his ex-wife's words.
"Time went by so fast..." said Merlin with his eyes closed as he remembered when he met DarkRock when he was just a baby.
The Saiyan restrained himself from devouring all the food, so he had to eat at a more 'normal' pace, but which in the eyes of his guests was like eating in a hurry.
"By the way, DarkRock, what do you plan to do from now on?" asked Dis with a very curious expression.
The charcoal-dark-eyed teenager let himself eat as he listened to his uncle's words.
"From now on...?" asked DarkRock with a confused expression.
The blond-haired monarch nodded his head.
"Yes, DarkRock. As of today, you're a full-fledged adult," Dis replied with a serious tone. "Is there anything special you want to do?" he asked, folding his hands in front of his face.
Our beloved protagonist stood thoughtfully for a few seconds not knowing what to say.
"Hmmm... Well, so far I've never left the forest," DarkRock answered truthfully. "I'd like to go to the nearest town to see what the people are like and the meals they make," he said with a smile as he imagined what the wonders of that possible town would be like... Maybe in one of those he would meet more strong demons he could fight.
The emerald green eyed man nodded his head.
"That's an interesting start, and then?" asked Dis with relative curiosity because in his head he was thinking that DarkRock wanted to be a wizard like his adoptive grandparents.
The teenager with tousled spiky black hair was taken by surprise at his uncle's question.
"And then...?" said DarkRock with a confused expression.
There were two people who were listening intently to the conversation of the blond monarch and the birthday boy.
"There must be something, right?"
"Since you learned to fight from Michael, you could join the Royal Order, or become a Demon Hunter, couldn't you?"
The Saiyan looked with surprise at the silver-haired man dressed as a mage and the red-haired woman in knight armor.
"This is Chris and Sieg, both of them always come accompanied by Uncle Dis." DarkRock informed the curious readers.
The woman (21) known as 'Chris' (Real Name: 'Christina Hayden') has a fair complexion and his height is 5'7". She has red hair that is tied back in a ponytail and light brown eyes. Her clothing consists of a suit of armor that does not obstruct her movement and she has a firm and slender body.
The man (21) known as 'Sieg' (Real Name: 'Siegfried Marquez') has a fair complexion and his height is 5'9". He has silver hair and blue eyes. His clothing consists of a wizard's robe.
Michael who was listening to the conversation of the wizard and the knight, said a 'Yes' because he agreed with Chris and Sieg's questions.
"A Demon Hunter, is there such a profession?" asked DarkRock surprised and very interested.
The others were just tasting their food, so the only one available had to answer him with the following:
"Yes, there is a place called 'Society of Demon Hunters'. They collect bounties when they defeat a demon, the stronger the demon the bigger the bounty."
The dark-eyed charcoal teenager was no doubt fascinated at the prospect of fighting strong monsters and being given money for it made it all the more appealing.
"I see..." muttered DarkRock with a thoughtful expression at the prospect of joining this 'Demon Hunters Society'. "Oh... I almost forgot, this is Tom." He told his curious readers with a small smile.
The man (40) known as 'Tom' (Surname: 'Haag') is of tanned complexion and his height is 5'6". He is somewhat chubby, and has light brown hair and eyes and has the kind of body that shows the dignity of a shopkeeper. He is a very friendly guy and always brings books or something for DarkRock.
A certain silver-haired wizard noticed something the others didn't notice or perhaps ignored.
"Hey, didn't you know that, DarkRock?" asked Sieg with a touch of confusion.
Our beloved protagonist nodded his head at the young wizard's question.
"Yeah... There really is such a job, huh?" said DarkRock with a thoughtful expression.
The blue-eyed wizard didn't think much of it that the boy didn't know that.
"You know, DarkRock... You could become a dealer of magical equipment by doing enchantments," Sieg commented with the intention of getting him into the magic academy. "Besides, you're handsome enough that you could pick up a girl and get her to support you," he added with an amused wink.
The teenager with tousled black spiky hair thought for a few seconds about the first words of the young man he saw as an older brother, but he really didn't have the profile to do that all his life... And the second thing Sieg said he didn't see as funny either.
A certain redhead didn't like what she was hearing from her escort partner.
"You're the only one who thinks that," Chris growled grumpily.
This didn't please the silver-haired wizard at all.
"Huh!" exclaimed Sieg very furious with his escort partner.
The redhead was not going to back down from this 'fight'.
"What!" shouted Chris matching his escort partner's fury.
A bead of anime style sweat trickled down the back of the necks of the others present, except for Melida.
"Yeah... As an adult, I'm going to have to earn some money, and I also have to learn how to use it," DarkRock said to himself... or so he thought.
A certain merchant heard the boy's words and gaped for a few seconds trying to process it.
"Wait, DarkRock... You mean you've never been shopping before?" asked Tom in disbelief.
The Saiyan snapped out of his thoughts when he heard his name being called out.
"Uh... Yeah. I never have," DarkRock answered truthfully.
Uncle Dis, Chris, Sieg and Tom were in shock at the boy's response.
"Merlin, you!" growled Melida very furious as she focused her gaze on her ex-husband, and she wasn't the only one looking at him that way because Michael also had a similar expression.
The old wizard scratched his head with his right hand.
"I-I... I forgot to teach you common practices!" said Merlin nervously as he saw that he was surrounded by hostile looks.
Everyone present immediately began verbally attacking the poor wizard for being so stupid.
Meanwhile, the coal-dark-eyed teenager watched the whole fight with a bead of anime-style sweat sliding down his forehead... Luckily it didn't last long, though.
"Come to think of it... I only learned magic from grandpa and nothing else," DarkRock commented with a thoughtful look because the most he learned besides magic was manners.
Those present (except for a certain old magical hero) gasped at the boy's words.
"Well... I'm sure you'll be fine with that," Merlin said with folded arms and closed eyes.
Melida was sorely tempted to spank her ex-husband for being so careless and clueless with DarkRock on something as important as socializing with other people... But she managed to restrain herself by sheer force of will and of course because it was her grandson's birthday.
Ten Minutes Later
Desert, Magical Training Ground
Magical signs formed in the air and a blue-green portal was formed from the air, where DarkRock emerged with his adoptive family, friends and acquaintances.
What...? Did we get here in the blink of an eye? ...? Did we teleport?
They were the questions of those who were unaware of the abilities of a certain boy with exotic black hair with tousled tips.
"It is one of DarkRock's original spells," Merlin replied to the doubt of the others.
Those present, except DarkRock watched the latter in amazement.
"Is this likely to turn the world's logistics around? No, this is on a whole different level that I can't even imagine the possibilities," commented Tom rather perplexed at the teleportation ability of the boy he sees as his nephew.
The witch heroine nodded her head with a new migraine looming in her mind.
"It's quite amazing that he can use such magic," Melida said with her eyes closed because really this technique of her grandson is really unique in the whole world and also very dangerous if it falls into the wrong hands... No doubt someone with bad intentions would try to copy or steal it, so after this she would have a serious talk with DarkRock.
A certain former commander was quietly listening to the exchange of words of the famous Guru and the most famous merchant in the Earlshide Kingdom.
"Is there a reason why we have come to this place?" asked Michael with a touch of nervousness because he did not like what he saw and this is because they are in a place with no signs of human life for miles.
The old wizard decided to clear up his old friend's doubt and also that of the others (except DarkRock) who were thinking similar things.
"Ah... About that, let's just say it would be dangerous to do this if there was anything or anyone else around," Merlin replied with a rather unsettling level of calmness.
The Guru narrowed her eyes in distrust at her ex-husband's words.
"Dangerous?" asked Melida with her gaze fixed on the old man.
The old wizard chuckled at his ex-wife's question.
"Easy, Melida... I know what it is, but be careful not to be too surprised when you see what DarkRock is capable of," Merlin replied with a small smile as he turned around to look at the old witch.
The pelirosada had to hold back the urge to keep asking and see with her own eyes what the thing was that her former life partner and grandson wanted to show not only to her, but to everyone else.
"DarkRock, show them a combined spell as if it were a final exam," Merlin said with a serious expression, but it didn't take long for a small smile to form for what was to come in a moment.
Our beloved protagonist who had so far been distracted by the beautiful scenery, had no choice but to stop doing this the moment he heard his grandfather call his name.
"All right," DarkRock readily accepted the old wizard's order.
Those present (except Merlin) looked expectantly at the birthday boy as they were curious as to what this 'combination spell' was that he would use to show them.
"First I create a sphere of pure energy in the palm of my right hand. Then I add more Ki and it transforms into an Eraser Cannon," DarkRock thought with his eyes closed with utmost concentration.
Almost everyone present (except Merlin) was shocked at the orange-sized sphere in the boy's right hand because they had never seen anything like it.
"What...? W-what is this green energy?" asked Sieg very confused and fearful at the great power emanating from the energy sphere, but he was not the only one with that reaction because his escort companion, Chris was also in a similar state.
The teenager with tousled black spiky hair ignored the impact he was having on his friends and family, and went about his business because he wasn't finished yet.
"Lastly, I add wind magic around the Ki sphere to cause even more damage upon impact," DarkRock thought as he snapped his eyes open and threw the wind energy powered Eraser Cannon as far away as possible so as not to cause harm to his precious people.
When the energy sphere hit the ground, a glow blinded those present (except DarkRock) and not even a second later a powerful explosion caused a slight earthquake, plus a shockwave that caused those present to use their magic to avoid flying out of their position. Even Sieg and Melida used a shield of magic to protect the others from collateral damage. It was certainly all too terrifying to describe any further.
"That's what I can do for now," DarkRock said with a small smile as he turned around to see the reaction of his family and friends.
Those present (except Merlin) looked like ghosts at what had happened and seeing the giant crater left by the huge explosion caused them to shake like jelly.
"Eh...? Is something wrong with them?" asked DarkRock with a confused look as he saw the shocked expressions of his grandmother and the others.
The old heroine was the first to react and snap out of her state of shock.
"Merlin, you old fool!" exclaimed Melida very angrily as she focused her gaze on her ex-husband. "Why didn't you teach the boy some prudence!" she demanded as she grabbed the old wizard and began to shake him hard.
The old hero's eyes seemed to spiral at his ex-wife's jerky movements for scolding him.
"W-well, he absorbs everything he's taught! I couldn't help but want to see what he could do, that's all!" replied Merlin loudly and very frightened as he saw his former adventure partner's expression turn red with anger.
The old witch gritted her teeth at the cheap excuses of her former adventuring companion.
"No 'that's all'! You disgust me!" growled Melida as her head grew comically large.
The others present, including DarkRock watched the mage with a bead of anime-style sweat sliding down their foreheads... But they were still fresh from the destructive level of the technique of a certain boy with exotic black hair with a tousled tip.
A Short Time Later
Both DarkRock and the others returned to the house in silence because they didn't know what to say about what they had seen earlier.
"Now I'm not so sure about sending him out into the world," Merlin admitted crestfallen. "He's too powerful and he still has to learn more things," he said with his eyes closed showing his regret.
A certain redhead decided to enter the conversation.
"Not to mention the combat skills Michael trained him in," Chris added seriously. "Other kingdoms might try to kidnap DarkRock," she opined with her gaze on the boy she saw as a little brother, she would never let some sluts lay a single finger on him.
The Saiyan stared at the young girl as if she had grown a second head because whoever dared to kidnap him would end up getting his ass kicked.
"Yes, it would surely cause conflict," Michael said in full agreement with the knight's words.
The coal-dark-eyed teenager looked at the former knight with surprise.
"Wait... Having this much power can actually be bad?" thought DarkRock with a confused and somewhat worried expression because he didn't want to bring trouble to his family and friends.
A certain blond-haired monarch decided to enter the conversation and give his opinion.
"Merlin, DarkRock's abilities are enough to alter the balance of power in the world," Dis commented with complete certainty.
Almost everyone present (except DarkRock and Merlin) nodded in agreement with the words of the King of Earlshide.
"Besides, outside of this forest, he'll be an ignorant villager," Tom said with the same seriousness as the others.
Our beloved protagonist almost rolled his eyes at the way he was rated.
"If he goes out into society this way, it will spell disaster," Dis affirmed with his gaze on the boy he saw as his nephew. "Needless to say, the empire is actively trying to expand its military," he added with a grimace as he recalled the border problems he has with a certain troubled nation.
The teenager with tousled spiky black hair had no idea what the guy he saw as his uncle was talking about.
"It's true..." muttered Merlin still with his eyes closed because more and more problems were being added as the conversation dragged on.
The blond-haired monarch nodded his head.
"That's why I have an idea," Dis commented with a somewhat mysterious tone, which caused not only Merlin to stare at him but the others did as well. "What if you enroll DarkRock in the Academy of Magic?" he offered with his hands clasped in front of his face.
The Saiyan was surprised at his uncle's words.
"Is it your idea to welcome DarkRock into your own realm?" asked Merlin with a touch of coldness.
Several of those present (except Melida) swallowed saliva at the pressure exerted by the old wizard's power.
"I swear to you that I do not explore DarkRock for military use," Dis answered truthfully, but he could not help but feel a shudder at the cold expression of his nation's old hero. "I think of him as my nephew. I do not wish to involve him in disputes of our realm," he assured him with his right hand on his chest.
The coal-dark-eyed teenager was actually very curious about a certain establishment.
"What is a magic academy?" asked DarkRock with his gaze on his adopted uncle.
The blond monarch took his gaze off the old wizard hero and instead focused his eyes on the birthday boy.
"It's a school of magic in the royal capital. In other words, it is an educational institution for students who are exceptional in magic in high school," Dis replied and explained to his adopted nephew's doubt. "If you go there, you'll find out how off the scale you are," the arm-in-arm affirmed.
Our beloved protagonist couldn't help but roll his eyes at those last words from his uncle.
"Besides, since he hasn't had anyone his age around, don't you think it will be the perfect opportunity for him to make some friends?" suggested Dis with a small smile as he focused his gaze on the birthday boy.
The others present (including DarkRock) listened in silence to the blond monarch's words.
"Yes... Actually, you're right about that... What do you say, DarkRock?" asked Merlin at the prospect of his grandson making friends.
The teenager with tousled spiky black hair was a bit surprised at his grandfather's question.
"That sounds nice. I'd like to try going to school," DarkRock replied with a small smile.
The blond-haired monarch was pleased at the birthday boy's response.
"Good. I'll make arrangements with the school," Dis said with a small smile. "The classes are configured according to the entrance exams, so you'll take one of those... My nation's magic academy is absolutely not under the influence of nobility; it is based entirely on one's own merit. I cannot show any favoritism," he explained with his eyes closed.
The Saiyan was curious about the way his uncle talked about himself... If he had to guess he must be a King or someone of high rank in the nobility, but he kept his questions to himself and said nothing about it.
"I see..." muttered DarkRock with his eyes closed with a small smile as he realized that Sieg, Chris and Tom were very important people in the Kingdom where his uncle was originally from.
The chat between the dark-eyed teenager with eyes as dark as coal and his guests continued to go on animatedly where he was made to taste some alcohol, but which he immediately ended up spitting out to the amusement of those present.
Half a Month Later
Our beloved protagonist was looking out the window of the wagon because from today he was starting his life outside the forest where he had lived all his life and which was far away from civilization.
"By the way, Grandpa... How big is your house in the capital?" asked DarkRock with a curious expression.
The old wizard shrugged his shoulders so as not to show his discomfort at his grandson's question.
"I really don't remember... It was granted to me by the kingdom a long time ago, so I think it's pretty big," Merlin answered without much interest and with a faraway look.
This response from his grandfather really caught the attention of the teenager with tousled black spiky hair.
"It will be easy to move around using the storage space of another dimension," DarkRock opined with a thoughtful look and at the same time focused his gaze on the other occupant of the wagon. "Grandma, I apologize for insisting that you come live with us... But I'm really glad you came," he said with a sincere smile.
The old witch sighed slightly at the words of her beloved adopted grandson.
"Well, I have my doubts about leaving everything to this old man," Melida commented with a somewhat mocking smile as she looked at her former partner in crime.
Merlin rolled his eyes at his ex-wife's words, but smiled back just the same.
"... I can see the capital. It won't be long now!" said DarkRock loudly and enthusiastically.
Both demon-hunting heroes formed grimaces at the sight of Earlshide Kingdom because it brought back memories they would rather have forgotten.
A Few Minutes Later
After driving for a while longer, they had finally arrived at the gates of their uncle's kingdom.
"Do you have your ID?"
DarkRock looked silently at the guard outside the wagon.
"Will this do?" asked Merlin as he held out a card.
"And here," added Melida as she handed over her ID.
The guard's eyes widened like saucers when he saw the IDs of the man and woman.
"Are you Merlin the Wise and Melida the Guru!"
The three occupants of the wagon formed a grimace at the guard's shout because the two old magic users knew that now the whole city knew about them.
Did the Sage say? ... And the Guru too?! ... Where? ... I'd love to see them!
A human avalanche rushed towards the three occupants of the wagon who panicked, mainly DarkRock who had never seen so many people together.
"Excuse me, but could you get this over with quickly!" asked Melida loudly without hiding her annoyance.
The guard backed up a few steps, quite terrified at the old mage's furious expression.
"Y-Yes, ma'am! I'm so sorry!"
DarkRock didn't quite understand all the fuss that was going on around him.
"This... Who is the young man with you?"
The Saiyan silently observed the guard guarding the Earlshide Kingdom gate.
"DarkRock Wolford. Our grandson."
The teenager (15) known as 'DarkRock Wolford' (Saiyan Name: 'Furensō') has a fair complexion and his height is 6'0". He has tousled black spiky hair that reaches almost to his shoulders along with two locks framing his face and dark charcoal eyes. His clothing consists of black pants, a white shirt with a brown vest and a pair of gray boots.
The guard was dumbfounded at the words of Merlin, the Sage, and Melida, the Guru.
Ten Minutes Later
A certain teenage boy with eyes as dark as coal stared in awe at the mansion that belonged to his grandfather and grandmother.
"Woah... It's huge..." muttered DarkRock because he didn't expect a place of such a size, since the cottage where he lived before didn't compare to this one.
Suddenly, our beloved protagonist was interrupted by the doors of the mansion opening slowly and dramatically.
Welcome home, Merlin-sama, Melida-sama and DarkRock-sama.
The teenager with tousled black spiky hair was surprised to see the house staff.
I'm the head butler, Steve. I am the head maid, Marika. I am the head cook, Keller.
DarkRock nodded his head in greeting.
Please feel free to ask if you need anything.
The Saiyan was undoubtedly amazed at the deal.
"What a nice service," thought DarkRock.
There were two people who weren't quite at ease, though.
"Diseum there must be," Merlin commented with a tired expression.
A certain pelirosa slowly nodded her head.
"This is the reason we are afraid to come here," Melida added with the same expression as her ex-husband.
DarkRock was pulled out of his fantasy of a sea of food prepared by the cook by a hand that was rested on his right shoulder.
"How about you let us drive here and go look around the city?" offered Merlin with a small smile.
The charcoal-dark-eyed boy looked intently at his grandfather and followed by a nod of his head.
"Okay, grandfather," DarkRock agreed with a smile at the prospect of exploring the big city.
A Moment Later
Our beloved protagonist was walking through the city observing with amazement the stone buildings and the people, but suddenly he stopped in his tracks when he saw a fruit stand and felt like eating some peaches.
"This... Will this be enough for those peaches?" asked DarkRock with a shy tone as he offered her a coin from a pouch he took out of his pants pocket.
The lady at the fruit stand nodded her head and grabbed the silver coin from her peculiar customer because she had never seen him in town, surely he must be a traveler.
"Of course, my boy! And here's a present from me."
The Saiyan smiled happily as he was handed a bag of apples next to the bag of peaches he bought.
"Thank you very much, ma'am!" thanked DarkRock with a bright smile.
The woman at the fruit stand smiled back and at the same time let out a dreamy sigh.
"Woah... He's certainly a handsome young man... It's a pity he's twice his age... besides, I'm married..."
Another Moment Later
A certain dark-eyed teenager with eyes as dark as coal was still walking around the city, observing every detail of the stores and food stalls, especially the food stands...
"This is the first time I've ever bought anything," thought DarkRock quite happily as he finished his last apple... Yes, he had already finished both the bag of peaches and the bag of apples given to him by the lady at the stall and he was still quite hungry.
Our dear protagonist on his way through the city bought several skewers of meat.
One Hour Later
A certain teenager with tousled spiky black hair looked back and then forward again with an imaginary question mark above his head.
"I think I got lost..." muttered DarkRock with his gaze on the alley he ended up in. "... I can't fly back towards the mansion because I'll end up scaring people," he thought with a grimace because it really is very useful to levitate/fly to get out of situations like this.
The Saiyan didn't know what to do because he didn't want to disturb the kingdom's population and he also didn't want to ruin everything on the first day.
Please stop! ... Can you please leave us alone for once?!
The coal-dark-eyed teenager was pulled out of his thoughts by two female voices calling for help and when he saw the three guys harassing two women, his sense of justice was awakened.
"Time to become a hero!" thought DarkRock in his mind as he disappeared in a blur of speed.
The three stalkers did not have time to dodge, let alone defend themselves from the kick that hit the right side of one of them, causing all three to go flying and crash into a nearby wall, knocking them completely unconscious.
"Are they okay? You're not hurt, are you?" asked DarkRock once he diverted his gaze to the two girls in front of him; one has red hair and the other has blue colored hair.
Both women blinked several times at the unexpected turn of events, but each managed to snap out of it and then responded with the following:
W-We're fine, thank you! ... Y-Yes... this... thank you very much for helping us.
The tousle-tipped black-haired teenager averted his gaze from the blue-haired girl to the other side because he inadvertently saw her oversized breasts... he was totally embarrassed because it was the first time he saw a woman his age.
"S-Something wrong...?"
The Saiyan shook his head at the blue-haired girl's question.
"N-No, nothing..." answered DarkRock with a slight blush tinge on his cheeks.
The redhead listened and watched the whole interaction of her friend and her savior with a wide amused smile.
