Season 6 Episode 5

Invasion

"First day," April shouted waking Kat up.

"Shut up," Kat yelled from her bed.

"Come on, Kat big first day, don't let the other kids get to you before you even got to the playground," Reed said over her morning cup of coffee.

"Its six thirty we don't have to be there till eight," Kat groaned rolling over.

"Yeah but it's you and you take three hours in the shower, don't think I haven't notice," Reed almost yelled the last part.

"Well my body is a temple and it should be treated as such," Kat said getting up.

"You're so lucky I don't pay utilities, or I'd be charging you so much more."

"Chill it red, I sleep on a pull out couch, I cook and I buy groceries, I'm way better than your other tenants," Kat said grabbing a water bottle from the fridge.

"Well the food is always good," Reed sighed.

"It's good we can see eye to eye, you wanna kiss and make up," Kat made a kissy face and Reed flipped her off.

"So I was thinking after work I can cook tonight, I make a mean casserole and jackson can clean," April said rearranging the chore board for this week.

"Sure, but what about the other days we can't survive of left overs, unless you make a big batch," Kat said swallowing the vitamins.

"I was think you take Tuesday, Reed takes Wednesday, then Jackson does Thursday," April was cuttoff by the Greek god-eqsue man sliding into the living room.

"Jackson does what," The shirtless man asked?

"Jackson cooks on Thursday," April said oblivious to the shirtless man.

"Can't have a date Thursday," Jackson said.

"Well what about Friday," April asked, finally looking up?

"Yeah that'll work," Jackson said, finally putting on the shirt he had in his hand.

"Cool thanks," April said to no one.

"You can stop looking he's gone," Kat said loud enough for Jackson to hear.

"I hate her guts, why does she live here," Reed said as Kat walked off.

"You needed the extra money," April answered sorting the chart well.

"It was a rhetorical question."

"Scuse me," Kat yelled as she and Jackson ran passed some women.

"Hey, you run to fast I was trying to catch up to you," Kat said as Jackson finally slowed down.

"You're the one that made us late ," Jackson said finally slowing down.

"We aren't late," Kat argued making her way to the elevator.

"Hey Charles," Jackson said, as he stopped the elevator.

"Thanks for holding the elevator," Charlie said as he got on. "So big day," Charlie tried to make light conversation.

"Yeah we just got to show em who's boss," Jackson said, with a straight face.

"You two are nerds," Kat shook her head laughing.

The laughter is paused by the beep of the elevator.

"This is our stop," Kat announced to the boys.

The guy in the elevator left in a rush.

"And apparently his too," Jackson said.

"Do you think he was one of them," Charlie asked?

"It's not a them versus us thing we are one now," said Kat, earning looks from both of the guys.

"Yeah he's one of them."

"Hey you didn't have to be an asshole about the cubby you could've gotten another one," Kat said catching up to Reed.

"You gotta mark your territory," Reed said.

"Maybe it's was a memorial for someone, it must've been important if she was considering fighting you over it," Kat tried to explain.

"The big kids don't get to push me around," Reed argued back.

"Just take your head out of your ass, maybe this time it wasn't about you," Kat said before walking off.

"Maybe she right about this one, Reed," Jackson whispered before running away aswell.

Reed followed them too, and somewhere on the way to the e.r. they picked up April

"Ok, where do you want us," the women they saw outside earlier asked?

"At this point anywhere is good," One of the attending said.

"At Mercy West, we do zones. When it's super busy, we just give everyone a zone, a space. The nurses put a person in that space, you know it's your patient. Helps you get to them quicker," Jackson blurted once we made it to the E.R.

"Well this is an e.r. not a school yard," the same women mocked.

"I like it," The attending told them, much to the women's disbelief.

"What," she asked?

"It's a good idea, let's try it. What's your name," The attending asked Jackson?

"Jackson Avery," Jackson extended his hand for a handshake.

"Dr. Avery, Dr. Hunt," Dr. Hunt said stepping away.

"It's all yours zone away," Dr. Hunt said before running off.

"Nice one," Kat said running with him.

"Still got a few mercy west tricks up my sleeve," Jackson laughed.

Kat was finishing up some stitches on a women from a work related accident when she heard yelling.

"Frank Nusbaum, 42, multiple, mostly superficial stab wounds. His buddy's got a lacerated palm," the paramedic announced as he rolled in the patient.

Kat just handed the patient over to an intern finally ready to get her hands on some real blood. She quickly switch out her gloves, and took the chart from Jackson's hands, only for it to be stolen from hers.

"I'm not his buddy he touched my little girl, my baby," A man following behind him yelled.

"She's not a baby. She's nineteen years old . There ain't a scrap of baby left there, Don" Frank yelled back, well barley.

"On three, one, two, three," The paramedic instructed as they took in off the stretcher and transferred him to the gurney.

"We've got a bleeder," Kat announced.

"Draw me up some lidocaine, get me a lac tray with 3-0 silk," Kat instructed as she maneuvered.

"Need some help," Jackson called.

"You're gonna feel a pinch," Kat spoke while she injected the lidocaine.

"Tie?" Kat held her hand out.

"Will you shut him up," the women from earlier asked, as she stood over Kat shoulders.

"Are you sure you don't need any help," Jackson asked Kat?

"No I'm a big girl I did it all by myself," Kat said standing back admiring her work.

Thirty minutes later some girl runs in and straight to the man kat and the other women are working on.

"Frank, oh my God," the girl comes to him giving him a big kiss

"Honey, are you ok," she asked him, as I gave the other women a look?

" I'll be fine, sweetheart," Frank answered.

"Get off of her, you perv," the guy from earlier screams.

"Daddy," the girl whines.

" I'll kill you, you son of a bitch," the man come running with a hammer.

"Security," other women screamed!

Kat looked around for security, but they weren't fast enough. So she took maters into her own hands, tackling him to the ground. Jackson was right behind her grabbing his hands.

"Nice work," Dr. Hunt said patting me on the back, as the police came.

"Small but mighty," Jackson whispered.

A sea of claps came my way which she humbly bowed too. Out of the corner of her eye she could she the other women was slightly pissed.

"Tackle like that you had to take up sports," Dr. Hunt asked?

"Well I wrestled and weightlifted, competitively all through high school and college," Kat mentioned.

"Impressive," Dr. Hunt said before walking away.

"So how your day been going," Reed asked?

"Pretty chill," Kat said not wanting to much attention.

"Pretty chill, please. She saved the whole e.r. from a guy with a hammer," Jackson said as he sat down.

"Saved," Charlie asked as he sat down with a sandwich hanging From his mouth?

"Saved is a pretty big word. I pushed him and Jackson helped me hold him down. But how's your day been Reed," Kat tried to change the direction of the conversation?

"Well I got a patient taken from me then found said patient and got it back, and I have surgery this evening, same patient," Reed said, taking a bit of salad.

"This is how we should play, nasty and dirty, just like them," Jackson said with sandwich still in his mouth.

"Learn to talk after you chew," Kat teased.

She saw the women from earlier and wanted to introduce herself.

"Alright I'm gonna get going," Kat said picking up her tray.

"Right behind you we can't show weakness," Jackson stood up.

"Because eating is a weakness," Kat turned her head.

"No taking breaks is one," Jackson smiled with an apple in his mouth.

"Hey I wanted to here about how you saved a bunch of people in an e.r.," Charles all but yelled as she walked away.

"I used actual medicine to save a person from dying," Kat heard as she got close.

"Hey didn't mean to interrupt or anything, it just I wanted to introduce myself. I don't want to start off on the wrong foot. My names Kat Hayashi," Kat said sticking her hand out.

"Dr. Alex Karev," The women said.

Kat read her name tag and it said Cristina Yang.

"Nice working with you Dr. Yang," Kat said pulling her hand back walking out of the cafeteria.

"What going on," Dr Yang asked?

"Pulsation mass over the stab wound," Dr. Hunt told her.

"What are we looking at, Hayashi," Dr. hunt asked mispronouncing her last name.

"Can't be sure with out an angio, but I think it's pseudo aneurysm," Kat said looking over the patient.

"I think you're right, keep pressure on it. Let's get him up to angio. And if it's positive, you're scrubbing in," Dr. Hunt said as he put up the railing on the gurney.

"Thank you, sir," Kat said before taking him up to angio.

"That's my patient," She heard Dr. Yang say as she took him up to angio.

Kat wasn't one to play dirty but she would today. And he technically wasn't just hers since they shared him tbfrom the beginning.

"Dr. Hayashi, good work," Dr. Hunt said pronouncing it right this time without even needing correcting.

"I try my best Dr.Hunt," Kat said taking off her gloves.

"You should try to be friendly with Dr. Yang she isn't always this mean," Dr. Hunt said taking off his gloves.

"Yeah alright," Kat said leaving the o.r.

"For what it's worth I think you should try," Dr. Hunt said following behind.

"I'll give it a try," Kat said before walking to the residents lounge.

"So how was everyone's day," Kat asked, walking into the residents lounge.

"I lost my journal, have you seen it, I think someone took it," April asked, rummaging through her cubby?

"I think that second year took it," Kat said before sitting down.

"The guy I was put with tried to play me, we took the patient to get scans and he had an acute on chronic subdural hematoma," Reed said.

"Brain bleed,"Kat said fooling her eyes as she took off her scrubs.

"Anyways, he tried to act like a nice guy go let me tell Neuro, but he told the head of Neuro was dr Arizona robbins but she's head of peds," Reed huffed putting her shoes on.

"That's funny," Kat said putting on her pants.

"No it's not he tried to send me to toyland so he could get the surgery," Reed sighed.

"And you would've fell for it," Kat said grabbing her coat.

"Haha very funny, you ready," Reed asked, Kat and April?

"I'm good I'll catch a ride with Jackson I need to go do something," Kat said grabbing her bag.

"And you April," Reed asked the disheveled girl?

"I'm gonna wait for Jackson," She replied.

"See you morons later," Reed said walking out.

"Hey it's pretty hard tracking you down in this hospital," Kat said as she finally made it to the door of the hospital room.

"Yea, i was here checking on my friend the whole time," Yang said putting her feet up on the bed.

"Well I just wanted to apologize for my behavior earlier, it was uncalled for," Kat apologized.

"Well I take apologies in the form of surgery and you can't give that too me, but I will accept it on terms and conditions," said Yang as she sat up straight in her chair.

"Like what," Kat asked?

"Umm," Yang paused swinging her feet back down. "You page me any time you get any cardio."

"Deal, but only if you page me anytime you get any ortho," Kat said.

"Didn't peg you for a carpenter, but this isn't a deal it's an apology," Yang stood up.

"Oh well I ran track and field in high school so all the cardio will be mine," Kat teased.

"Ok, okay fine. Deal," Yang said with her hand extended.

"Deal," Kat said shaking her hand. "You should let my hand go now."

" Oh, sorry," said Yang, dropping the hand she temporarily clung too.

"Good night Doctor Yang, and good night to Doctor Yangs friend," Kat said before walking away. What was the point of saying goodnight if she was gonna walk away without their response, well she didn't know.

As she turned to leave she bummed right into Jackson Avery.

"Hey Avery, you just getting off," Kat asked?

"Yeah just checking on my post ops, should be done in fifteen," Jackson said.

"Wanna meet me at the bar across the street, for a little first day celebration," Kat asked?

"No we have work in the morning," Jackson said, with a grin.

"Come on we'll do one beer then you'll take me home," Kat said with a grin.

"Alright sure, just one," Jackson said.

"Just one," Kat said before walking off.
