Chapter 17
A/N: Time Jump! Just a filler chapter of Rory thinking about everything that has happened.
One Year Later…
Rory POV
The last year had been very exciting for Colin and I. We'd managed to get the new office up and running and had managed to move into our townhouse. We'd originally planned to move into an apartment but when we found out I was pregnant it made more sense to get a townhouse. So after searching with a realtor, we'd managed to find the perfect townhouse for us. We managed to get moved in before I was too far along in my pregnancy. Mom and Luke had been a huge help.
Since neither Colin or I wanted a huge wedding or for it to mainly be about business, it didn't take us long to get the wedding planned. We decided to have it at Yale, on the grounds near where we'd first met. We'd managed to plan everything ourselves, despite what my grandmothers had wanted. It had been perfect. It was everything that I'd wanted my wedding to be. The sole focus was Colin and I. For the reception, Colin and I had rented out Rich Man's Shoe and had barbeque. My grandmothers had been completely horrified.
For our honeymoon, Colin and I had decided to spend a week in the house that Trix had left me when she'd died. It was beautiful. It was an older house in London. Grandpa had hired a small staff…just a cook and a housekeeper. I told him that we really didn't need the staff but he insisted.
After our honeymoon, Colin and I were constantly busy. Between work and doctor's appointment…we barely had any time for each other. Four months after our wedding, Colin managed to convince me that we needed a weekend away. I begrudgingly agreed. We spent the weekend out at our house in the Hampton's. It was the perfect relaxing weekend that I needed. With me approaching 6 months in my pregnancy, Colin wanted me to cut back on my hours at the office. I hated that he was right, but it was something that needed to be done. That following week, I had a board meeting in Hartford, where I announced that I would be cutting back on my hours and taking a more administrative role till after the baby was born. There were several board members that weren't happy with that but they didn't have much of a choice…It was after all my law firm.
When I hit the eighth month mark of my pregnancy, Colin and I ended up at the Emergency Room one night. I'd started having contractions. Paris had immediately admitted me to the hospital so that she could try and stop them. Fortunately, after about four hours she was able to get the contractions to stop. But the downside was that she had to put me on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy.
The morning of my due date, Colin and I woke up to me bleeding. He immediately called an ambulance. While waiting for the ambulance, he called Paris to let her know what was going on as well as Mom. When I got to the hospital, Paris was waiting for me in the ER and rushed me into a room. She immediately did an ultrasound to check the baby. The baby was fine. She got me hooked up to monitors and determined that I was in fact in labor. 12 hours later, Colin and I were the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl…Alyssa Lorelai McCrae.
When I returned to work 8 weeks after Alyssa had been born, I was greeted with Logan waiting for me in my office. He explained to me that things had only gotten worse with Steph since the night that Colin and I had announced our engagement and my pregnancy. He explained that he thought that Steph was having an affair; that neither of them we happy and that he thought it would be best if they got a divorce. I told him that I would need a copy of their prenup before I could do anything. That I would need to look over it before I agreed to proceed. The only thing he did was nod, before handing me an envelope with his prenup in it.
After Alyssa's birth, things with Dad and Francine didn't get much better. I hoped that with time that it was gonna get better but to no avail. Oh well, Alyssa still had Mom and Luke.
