Ace arrives home and walks in the door to see Graham slightly snoozing on the couch, she goes up and kisses him on the cheek, "Hi," he says as he opens his eyes.
"Hi, have a nice nap?"
"I was woken up nicely."
"Graham!" Ace lightly laughs.
"It's true," He sits up and Ace moves to his side. "So what was with the face earlier?" Ace puts her head on his shoulder as she sighs. He automatically puts his arm around her shoulder and starts rub it.
"Not long after I started talking to Shreela, it seemed a part of me at times reverted back to my angry teenage self. You came right after I got angry at her for saying I was an outcast."
"Didn't you get hurt when the Doctor said that to you."
"A social misfit, but you are right. No one likes being called an outcast."
"You definitely fit in with our friends and in my arms."
"I love how I fit right here."
"You know what else fits perfectly?"
"What?"
"This," he puts his hand underneath her chin and brings her lips to meet his lips in a slow tender kiss.
"You're right they do fit." Ace lays her head back on his shoulder.
"Anything else."
"She wants me to speak at my high school; the one I was kicked out of."
"You were only kicked out of one school, dear."
"I know. If I am honest since I have been back on Earth ya now permanently; I only went back home once for my Mum's funeral."
"Even though the two of you didn't have a good relationship she was probably glad you came to her funeral."
"The last time we spoke, well fought was the day Fenric used a time storm and swept me to Ice World. Later I learned she spent almost a whole year searching for me."
"I guess after it all she loved you."
"Yeah, I guess. I just wish she acted like a mother when I was there. I needed her when my Nan died and when everything happened to Manisha. All she cared about was her latest boytoy. I admit I was like that for a while more interested in my latest lays. Then after I started to become successful that changed. I wanted something serious, I did know from a young age I wanted to get married. I just didn't know how to let myself fall in love."
"Now you do."
Ace lays her arm around Graham's stomach, "I do, though you made it easy."
"I'm glad, I fell in love with you easily too. I am glad that you were the first woman to catch my eye after Grace."
"The first?"
"The very first, I wish you were the first person that I kissed, sadly Capt. Jack took the option away from me."
"He will kiss anyone and anything."
"You?"
"He did and got a foot where the sun doesn't shine."
Graham lets out a big belly laugh. "I am glad you didn't do that to me when I first kissed you."
"I had been wanting to kiss you for a while, but wanted you to make the first move."
"Why?"
"I knew you were and are still grieving Grace, I didn't want to scare you away or make you feel anything but happiness when I kissed you." Graham stays silent, "Graham?"
"Yes?"
"Are you ok?"
"I just." He takes a breath, "know how much I love you and appreciate you waiting until I was ready."
"I was instantly smitten with you; from the moment you started running after me."
"It was the moment you were surprised I knew the Doctor."
"Me being surprised, says the person who asked how old I was when he found out I fought Daleks in the 60s."
"You looked more than beautiful than someone in their 50s. You also moved really well."
"How much did you watch me that night?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"I do."
"When there weren't more pressing things, like Daleks, the Doctor, TARDIS console, and where I was running; my eyes were on you."
"So about half of the night. Tegan was right about you watching me when Yaz was getting us home."
"Can you blame me?" Ace lightly laughs and moves her head to kiss his shoulder.
"This is nice, just relaxing on the couch."
"I seem to remember doing this a lot in the early days of our relationship."
"We did, and have done this a number of times after we were rudely interrupted."
"We have, I also love doing this, you in my arms, head on my shoulder or chest, feels right."
"It really does, as my Doctor would say perrrfect."
"Mine would say brilliant."
"Though they all at least the ones that have been since meeting you, would all probably like to threaten me to scare me from hurting you."
"Gorden Bennett, they need to realize I can take care of myself."
"They love you, well I want to be with you."
"I want to be with you."
"Another night let's try again, but tonight I just wanna remain here."
"These arms will always have a place for you."
"They better." Ace closes her eyes and starts to fall asleep. Graham feels her breathing even out, looks down at her and smiles and gets more comfortable.
While in dreamland they both dream of the same thing, their first kiss. Graham had set up candles all over his apartment, while dimming the lights there was a knock on the door. 'Here it goes.'
As he opens the door to see the smiling face of Ace, the woman who has laid a claim to his heart without her knowing it. "Sorry, I'm late."
"You're not late, I haven't taken dinner out of the oven yet. It's a vegan lasagna."
"Sounds delectable."
"I hope it is, this is the first vegan dish I have cooked on my own."
"We have made a few together." Ace reminds him.
"A few amazing vegan dishes."
"I am sure this one will be just as amazing," the oven timer chimes.
"That will be our dinner. Want to go sit at the table, it is all ready, except for the main dish." Graham walks off into the kitchen. Ace sits down and notices how everything is all set. "Dinner is served m'lady." Ace lightly laughs as Graham gestures with one arm around his back as he bows with the lasagna in the other.
"You are something else Graham."
"Only for you."
"MM, it smells amazing."
"Let's see if the taste is as good as the smell."
"It will be." They dish up and tug in. After they finish eating, Graham and Ace clean up and move to the living room. They sit on the couch and watch the candles flicker, well Ace watches and Graham watches as the light dances across Ace's features. "This is nice Graham."
With his voice soft, "it is."
Ace faces him, "Graham?"
"Yes."
"Are you watching me?"
"Your hair is dancing in the candlelight."
"What?"
"Your beauty is magnified with the candles."
"Ok?" She lightly laughs and looks into Graham's eyes to see how soft they look and realizes that his face is growing closer and closer and their lips meet in their first kiss. Both pairs of eyes close and they melt into each other.
