Isabella walked into town hall and headed for the mayor's office. When she reached it, she peeked her head inside.
"Isabella, come on in," said Antonia smiling and rising from her chair.
Isabella walked inside and met up with her. Once they shook hands both sat down even if Isabella felt a tad nervous as to being there. She had a lot riding on this and had spent the past weeks fine-tuning her project.
"The city council met up last night to discuss the various items on the agenda. Your project was one of them."
"And?"
"The vote was unanimous, we signed off on ReAchieve, the community outreach program and community center."
Isabella put a hand to her mouth taken by the emotions. "Oh my God, Antonia, that's fantastic."
"What is fantastic is what you've been doing and want to put in place for Santo Padre. The goal is to make Santo Padre a thriving community. Along with your project and others that were validated yesterday, we can finally give this place what it takes to flourish again; new businesses, better education and improve the standard of living of all its people."
"Wow, I don't know what to say. When I set out to put this in place, I was hoping but not certain it would work."
"You are among the people this town needs and there is no one better than you to be at the head of this project, this association and community center. You represent exactly what we've always wanted in Santo Padre. A local girl who went to college and thrived. And because you had that chance, you now can come and give back to the community by helping others achieve what you have."
Antonia leaned back in her seat. "You know back in the day, and still today, there aren't that many kids here that graduate from high school and have the opportunity to go to college. We want to change that with you, through you."
Isabella nodded. "So do I."
"There are only a few renovations for the building to approved regarding norms and regulations. I've already given the contractor your contact details so that you can check with him what needs to be done. As it's a town building, any of those renovations will be paid off by us. After that, it'll be on your budget."
"Of course. How much leniency do I have with what's done inside the building and its surroundings?"
"It's not a protected building, so as long as you don't tear it down, you have a clean state."
Isabella couldn't help but beam. After having been fired from her job, she had searched for ways to make a difference in other's lives, especially here and after helping Letti and some others, she knew it's what she needed to do along with other ways to help all the community. It had been a plan, a desire so strong she had dug her head in it. And now, it was finally going to come true.
"I really appreciate the town council's faith in these projects," said Isabella as she stood.
"As one of the members said last night, "we're home proud". Glad you came back to Santo Padre, Isabella."
"Me too, Antonia."
Isabella walked out and headed for the car.
After having had a meeting with Marcus, Bishop walked into the clubhouse and stopped dead in his tracks as the guys were eyeing him a very serious look on their faces.
"What's going on?"
Taza walked up to him, bottle of Cuervo in hand. "Did she say yes?"
Bishop shook his head as he smiled. "She said, yes."
All the guys cheered and grouped around him as they put their glasses down on the table, including one for him, so that Taza could pour them a drink.
"This is cause for celebration," said Taza as he raised his glass. "To Bishop and Isabella!"
"I'm happy for you, brother," said Tranq as he took Bishop in a brotherly hug. "A Mayan wedding, haven't had one of those in a long time."
"No, we haven't," replied Bishop, "maybe it's time some of you followed my example," he said as he glanced at Angel.
"Not there yet, jefe," said Angel laughing. "And I hope Bella won't give Adelita any ideas."
"You're toast," chipped in EZ, "if Bella hasn't told her yet, it's only a question of hours."
"We'll get married," replied Angel, "we have time."
Bishop took a sip of his tequila. "Life goes by too fast. Before you know it, it's gone. You can't buy time back. Don't forget that. Every minute counts."
Angel and EZ nodded.
"Hey Bishop!" yelled Coco from outside. "Your prometida is here."
Bishop put his glass down and walked down the steps. He knew that she had a meeting with Pena and had been nervous.
"What did she say?" he asked trying to read her.
"They said, yes! To all of it. I can't believe it."
He took her in his arms and lifted her off the ground. "Mi amor, that's wonderful." He put her back down. "I'm so proud of you."
"Oh my God. I have to go into town and let Letti and Adelita know. I need to call my mom. I need start looking at ordering supplies and furniture, finding volunteers."
He couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm and rambling mind. "Calm down, Belita, take a deep breath. You've got this. I'll help with what I can." He then turned around and looked back at the clubhouse, "We all will."
"I know, I know, go back to your celebration."
He narrowed his eyes. "How do you know?"
"Because you're drinking tequila this early in the day, which means you're celebrating something and as I agreed to marry you last night, my take is that you told the guys."
"The guys knew I was going to ask you. I just told them your answer. And now with your news, we have even more reasons to celebrate."
"Would love to drink tequila with you, but I can't. Got lots to do."
"Alright," he said as he kissed her. "Off you go, mi amor. I'll see you later. Say hi to Letti and Adelita for me."
"I will," she said as she waved at some of the guys out on the porch, "see you later."
As Bishop joined the others, he took the bottle of Cuervo. "Town Council approved Isabella's project. A toast to my amazing future wife!"
He filled up the glasses and they all raised their glasses.
"To Isabella!"
Isabella parked her car in front of the diner and ran up the stairs to its door and walked inside.
Letti and Adelita were having lunch and she ambled over to their table. Both turned their head toward her.
"I've been more nervous than you all morning," said Adelita, "this wait is killing me."
"Yeah, tell us, Bella."
"We're in."
All three of them cheered, as the other patrons looked on unsure as to what was going on as they stood and hugged.
"We're actually doing this," said Adelita in disbelief as they sat down at the booth.
"I still wrap my head around it."
"When do we start?"
"As soon as the contractor calls me. Which means that we have a lot to do."
"What can I do?" asked Letti.
"You, nothing for the moment. You keep studying, you've got your GED to take in three weeks."
Letti pouted. "Not fair."
"Carina, I promise that there will be plenty to do."
Letti nodded. "You know all of this is thanks to you."
"I only gave you options and believed in you. The rest, that's on you. You should be proud of yourself."
"What if I don't pass?"
"You will and regardless of the result, you worked hard, and you shouldn't have any regrets."
Isabella put her hand out to grab the pitcher of water and Adelita zoned in on her hand and intercepted it.
"Girl, you've got some heavy duty explaining to do. What is this?!"
Letti's eyes grew wide open. "Oh, fuck me, did Bishop propose?"
Isabella frowned at Letti. "Watch your language. And yes, he did."
"And obviously you said yes, otherwise you wouldn't have this remarkable ring on your finger," said Adelita all excited.
Isabella smiled as she looked at the ring.
"It's beautiful."
"It is. Growing up I imagined this beautiful golden ring with a diamond, but now that I see this, it's like I could never picture wearing anything else."
"Wait till you get the wedding band to go with it. Did you guys pick a date yet?"
"No. With all the tension revolving around Los Cobras, I'm surprised he even thought about proposing."
"Angel says things are quiet, I guess that's a good thing," replied Adelita as she took a sip of her water.
"I don't know. From what I know of the world, it's usually when things are too quiet that you should worry."
"Why?" asked Letti as she grabbed a French fry from the plate.
"Because your opponents have lowered their guard and you have an element of surprise."
"So, we're not out of the woods yet," stated Adelita concerned.
"I don't think so. Bishop says that the latest rumor is that Los Cobras headed over to Arizona but if it were the case, the Tucson or Flagstaff crew would have said something."
Adelita pondered what Isabella said and shook her head. "Shit, I hate it when what you say makes sense."
Isabella laughed. "Gee, thanks. I'll try to prevent myself from doing that in the future."
"Sorry, I'm just desperate for Angel and me to go back to a normal life. For all of us to."
"I hardly see Coco," added Letti.
Isabella put her arm around Letti and hugged her. "I know. That's why we need to stick together and look out for one another until things cool down and things go back to normal."
All three looked at each other and nodded. "We're family," said Isabella. "And if you don't feel comfortable staying alone nights when Coco is out doing surveillance, you come over the house."
She paused for a moment. "Now, speaking of home, why don't we go back to there and start placing orders so that we can schedule deliveries."
"Sounds like a great idea," replied Adelita as she took out a twenty and placed it on the table.
