A sixteen-year-old male, Nara Shikamaru, was walking slowly towards a regular hangout spot in his home village, Konohagakure, to meet up with his friends. It was one trouble after another after a certain unpredictable ninja came back from training. Yet, with that particular ninja, there was also a female that grew beautiful in most of the village's males' eyes. It was no exception for this sixteen-year-old as he also remembered how he met this particular female…

- Flashback –

A small boy of six in age was lying on the ground underneath a huge tree within the park. He was bummed that his best friend, Akimichi Chōji, was sick with a stomachache due to eating too much and couldn't hang out with him. It was kind of rare to not be with his best friend when he came to the park alone. Now, underneath the tree, he was about to fall asleep until something or someone landed on his stomach. He winced in pain as he grumbled about troublesome people disturbing his sleep. He opened one of his brown eyes to see blonde hair and grumbled more. "Ino, why did you fall on top of me," questioned the boy.

"Gomen," said a gentle female voice, "Demo, who's Ino?"

"Huh," questioned the boy as he opened both eyes to take a look at who was still on top of his stomach.

There, on top of him, was an unfamiliar girl who had golden-blonde hair that was tied into a braid and sparkling crystal blue eyes. Now that the boy thought about it, her hair resembles a brighter shade of yellow than that of his other friend that his parents also wanted him to get along with. It was then that the boy could see a red hue from the girl who finally looked to see how she landed on top of him and scrambled to get off. "Gomen nasai," cried out the little girl, "I didn't mean to hurt you!"

"It's alright," said the boy who sighed before sitting up, "Why were you up in the tree anyways?"

"I am playing hide-and-seek with my twin," chirped the girl happily.

"Twin," questioned the boy.

"Un," nodded the girl happily, "We always climb in trees and try to hide better than the other during this game!"

"Isn't that dangerous," questioned the boy.

Before the little girl could answer, another body slammed into the little girl. The boy's brown eyes widened in surprise and concern until he heard melodic giggles and boyish-like chuckles from the ground. There, on the ground, was the little girl, and on top of her, was a little boy with sun-kissed blond, spiky hair and sapphire-like blue eyes. Said blonde boy was tickling the little girl before he stopped and smiled happily with the little girl. However, the blonde boy turned towards the other boy and narrowed his eyes. "Imōto," said the blonde, "Is this guy bothering you?"

"Īe," said the girl, "I fell on top of him while I hid in the tree that he was lying underneath of."

"Daijōbu," questioned the blonde in worry.

"Un," nodded the girl with a smile, "Daijōbu!"

"Well," said the blonde, "Arigatō for catching my imōto and saving her from getting hurt."

"It was fine," said the brown haired boy, "No harm done."

The two blondes looked at each other. The boy in front of them could see that they were silently communicating with one another through their eyes. It was kind of unnerving to be the center of a silent conversation as the boy moved his feet from left to right awkwardly. Yet, the conversation stopped as both blue eyes stared at the boy, both blondes having smiles on their faces. "Do you want to play with us," questioned the girl.

"I guess," said the boy with a shrug.

"What's your name anyways," questioned the blonde.

"Nara Shikamaru," said the now known Shikamaru.

"Nice to meetcha, Shikamaru," said the blonde, "Name's Uzumaki Naruto! This is my imōto by, I think, two minutes, Usagi!"

"Nice to meet you," chirped the now known Usagi, "I hope we all can be great friends!"

- End Flashback –

'I'm surprised that our friendship actually lasted this long due to the bigotry from the villagers,' thought Shikamaru.

Just thinking about the bigotry got Shikamaru's temper flaring. He could still remember the times he helped Usagi patch Naruto up from the beatings the villagers gave to him as a child. He could remember the sadness that Usagi felt whenever she saw her twin hide his intelligence due to the villagers. He also remembered how scared Usagi was the one time the villagers tried to separate the twins, trying to save Usagi from the so-called demon. He knew that the villagers were not privy to the information that Usagi and Naruto were actually twins. He actually shudder to think what would happen if the villagers knew as he thought back to how he and his father had to help the twins, especially with healing Naruto up. He, however, was surprised to NOT see Usagi at the ninja academy to become a kunoichi…

- Flashback –

Little Shikamaru had his head down, ready to start a nap on his first day at the ninja academy. Next to him was Chōji who was munching on his favorite potato chips. He did, however, acknowledge that he was in the class once his teacher, Umino Iruka, called on his name. When he was about to fade away into dreamland, his ears perked up when he heard Iruka-sensei call an Uzumaki Naruto. Chōji was surprised when he saw Shikamaru's head rise up from the desk as Shikamaru looked at a familiar blonde haired boy. He, however, was surprised to hear Yamanaka Ino come after Naruto's name instead of his twin sister's. So, when break time came, Shikamaru went out to the courtyard to see Naruto sitting by himself. Shikamaru frowned as he realized that Usagi was indeed not at the ninja academy. "Naruto," called out Shikamaru, Chōji trailing behind his friend.

"Eh," questioned Naruto before his blue eyes stared at Shikamaru, "Ah! Shikamaru!"

"I didn't know you were at ninja academy," said Shikamaru nonchalantly.

"Un," nodded Naruto enthusiastically, "Jiji (Gramps) finally let me go to ninja school!"

"And your imōto," questioned Shikamaru, "I never knew you two can separate from one another."

"Usa," questioned Naruto with furrowed eyebrows before his eyes brightened, "She decided not to become a ninja, dattebayo. She said that she wanted to learn more as a civilian instead."

Shikamaru furrowed his eyes as he heard Naruto's answer. Though Usagi had decided to remain a civilian, he could tell that Naruto who had his eyes closed as he smiled at him and answered his question was hiding something. He didn't know what, but if Naruto was hiding a secret that Usagi has, he guessed that Usagi and Naruto wanted to keep that secret to themselves before letting others learn from them. Shikamaru sighed as he sat next to Naruto and promptly fell to the ground, his face facing to the sky to look at the clouds. "Mendokusē (How troublesome)," muttered Shikamaru.

"Eh," questioned Naruto.

"Nothing," said Shikamaru before… "Oh yeah. This is Akimichi Chōji, one of my best friends."

"Nice to meet you," said Chōji who was still eating his chips.

"Nice to meetcha too," said Naruto with a big smile, "Name's Uzumaki Naruto, dattebayo!"

- End Flashback –

Shikamaru now had a noticeable frown on his lips. He still didn't know the real reason why Usagi didn't want to become a kunoichi. He could always blame it on the villagers' ignorance and hurtful impressions when Usagi and Naruto were younger, but that also meant Naruto would have thought to not be a shinobi as well. The villagers actually should be glad that Naruto was such a powerhouse to protect Konohagakure. As Shikamaru was still thinking about Usagi, he didn't really realize that he was the only one at an empty table that the others said to meet up at. He also didn't realize that the table in question was only for two people to sit at. Shikamaru was so out of it that the sound of the chair across from him knocked him out of his thoughts. Lifting his head up from his bored, thinking phase, Shikamaru was surprised to see the sixteen-year-old Usagi sitting across from him. "Usagi-chan," greeted Shikamaru.

"Kon'nichiwa, Shika-kun," said Usagi with a smile.

"What are you doing here," questioned Shikamaru curiously.

"Eh," questioned Usagi, "D-Didn't you ask 'Ruto-nī to ask me to meet you here?"

"Īe," said Shikamaru negatively, "Naruto said that all of us Konoha 11 were meeting here for another hang out."

"O-Oh," said Usagi who flushed in embarrassment.

When Naruto told her that Shikamaru wanted to have a date with her at this place, Usagi was a bit skeptical, yet hopeful. Naruto knew that Usagi has a crush on Shikamaru since she fell on top of his stomach on that day. Naruto reassured Usagi that Shikamaru really had feelings for her, and he was just shy to actually ask you out formally. Usagi, with hopeful eyes, got ready with Naruto's so-called help. If you count Naruto vetoing most of what she wanted to wear because he was that type of overprotective older brother help, Usagi would have laughed. Usagi, with Naruto's approval, finally settled on wearing a simple blue dress that matched her eyes and flip flops. Usagi, however, had to set out by herself to meet with Shikamaru because Naruto said something about meeting with friends and was sorry he couldn't escort her to her first date. Now, however, Usagi felt like Naruto played a cruel prank on her, even though she knew in her heart that Naruto was not that kind of older brother. "I-I guess I should go and not bother you then," said Usagi with sad eyes on display.

"You don't have to," said Shikamaru who was thinking on why Naruto would lie to his twin, "No one else is here right now. So, let's enjoy some lunch before the rest of the noisy crew gets here."

"Are they that noisy," questioned Usagi.

"They are," said Shikamaru, "Though, I can't blame you for asking. No one knows that Naruto has you as a twin sister, except for certain people."

"I think Naruto is too overprotective of me sometimes," said Usagi.

"When is he not," questioned Shikamaru with a smirk, "Anyways, order anything that you want. I'll pay for it."

"Y-You don't have to," said a nervous Usagi, "And w-wouldn't that be too troublesome for you?"

"Īe," said Shikamaru, "I don't think anything that has anything to do with you is too troublesome."

As Shikamaru marveled at how Usagi flushed a pretty red and was mentally wondering why he said that, the two didn't notice Naruto on the other side of the hangout place. Naruto, on his part, could see that Shikamaru grew to like his imōto as they grew up. Shikamaru was also one of the only people who hung out with Naruto a lot, which included hangouts with Usagi because Naruto and Usagi were a package deal. He wasn't oblivious with the way Shikamaru would look at Usagi, even after the hangouts became seldom once Shikamaru and he graduated and were put in different teams. He wanted to strangle Shikamaru for not realizing his feelings for his imōto, but he knew that Shikamaru was too smart that his feelings were actually hindsight. Besides, traveling with Usagi and Ero-sennin (Pervy Sage), Usagi was mostly corresponding with Shikamaru, leading Ero-sennin to complain to him about how Usagi was too young to date, especially when he found out Usagi's secret. Naruto chuckled inwardly when he remembered what happened…

- Flashback –

"Usa," complained Naruto, "Stop using Gamatama to send your mail. He's still a tadpole, dattebayo!"

Usagi, Naruto, and the one known as Ero-sennin were on the road once more. Ero-sennin, otherwise known as Jiraiya, was still wondering how he was stuck with the twins, especially with Usagi who didn't even train as a kunoichi. He was glad to spend time with his godchildren for three years, but he finally realized that only Naruto was training with his instructions. Usagi, on her part, was mostly writing letters and imploring Naruto to summon a toad to deliver said letters to a certain person. "Gomen," said Usagi with a giggle, "Demo, at least you are getting more practice with summoning the toads."

"Who are you even writing to," questioned Jiraiya.

"Shikamaru," chirped Usagi.

"It's only Shikamaru," questioned Naruto with a deadpanned look, "Don't you even write to Iruka-sensei or to Chōji? What about Teuchi-jiji and Ayame-neechan?"

"I do write to them," said Usagi until her face flushed a bit, "Demo…"

"Oh, I see," said Naruto with a smirk, "It's just Shikamaru stole your heart, and you are just communicating with him so he doesn't forget about you."

Jiraiya looked at the twins in surprise. He was sure that Naruto and Usagi didn't know anything about certain feelings, especially about romance. He could recall in seeing that Hinata girl blushing bright red whenever Naruto was near her. He, however, didn't know that Usagi also had someone she fell for… even if he thought that his goddaughter was too young to be dating. Jiraiya listened more as he frowned at how Usagi was so unconfident about herself. How on Earth does this girl have low self-esteem, anyways? "You and I both know that Shika-kun has a crush on that Suna kunoichi," said Usagi.

"Temari-san," questioned Naruto before a frown settled on his face, "I don't think so. During the invasion, he was mostly thinking about you, especially when he said that he would stay back to defend Sakura and me, dattebayo. I mean, he practically screamed at me to think about you if you lost me during that invasion."

"Demo," started Usagi.

"And don't get me started about that Earth-ōji," said Naruto with a glare, "If he even shows up, I'll pound him into the ground for what he did to you."

"Arigatō, nīchan," said Usagi sweetly.

"Earth-ōji," piped up a confused Jiraiya, "Who are you talking about?"

Naruto and Usagi both blanched at how they forgot about Ero-sennin. With their eyes, they held a short conversation that wasn't privy to Jiraiya. Usagi wasn't confident in letting Jiraiya know, but Naruto thought that an adult SHOULD know about Usagi's secret. Usagi pouted but nodded her head after a short eye-to-eye conversation. Jiraiya was so confused about what was going on with the twins that he almost didn't hear Naruto explaining something to him. "So, Ero-sennin," said Naruto, "You should know that my imōto here is actually a reincarnated hime from the Moon. She also was engaged to a person that was probably 10 years older than her, dattebayo."

"Reincarnation," questioned a confused Jiraiya before the other sentence circled in his head, "Engaged to someone ten years older?!"

"I think he was," said Usagi with a thoughtful look.

"Usagi," said Jiraiya as he grabbed Usagi by her shoulders, "You are not allowed to date anyone! Ever!"

"Not even her crush," questioned Naruto with a smirk.

"Not even then," shouted Jiraiya to Naruto, "She'll date over my dead body!"

- End Flashback –

'Now, we know just why Ero-sennin said that,' thought Naruto with a sad smile, 'He was our godfather and actually tried to take care of us secretly by sending money to us.'

Naruto mentally shook his head about the twin's deceased godfather and the corrupted council as he looked back at Shikamaru and Usagi. He was happy that Usagi and Shikamaru were having a wonderful time. So, what if he lied about Shikamaru wanting to date Usagi and lied about Konoha 11 having a hangout? Naruto could see that Shikamaru was having a good time with Usagi, especially when he spied the two holding hands at their table. He was so sure that everything would be fine until it wasn't. "Naruto," called out a female voice.

"Eh," questioned Naruto as he turned around, "Sakura-chan? Mina (Everyone)? Why are you here, dattebayo?!"

"We wanted to hang out with everyone," said Ino.

"Yeah," said Sakura, "We found everyone easier, but we couldn't find you and Shikamaru."

"Now that we found you," said Kiba with a smirk, "We have to find the lazy bum."

Naruto sweated as he saw the Konoha 11 right where Shikamaru was potentially having a date with his twin sister. He, however, also noted that Sabaku no Gaara and his siblings, Kankurō and Temari, were also with the Konoha 11. He sweated more just as his eyes darted to where Shikamaru finally paid for the food he and his twin ate. He could also tell that Shikamaru thought that the others weren't going to show and was deciding if he wanted to hang out with Usagi alone. "I believe that Shikamaru is on a date," commented Shino.

"Nani," shouted everyone, especially Temari.

"You are joking, aren't you," questioned Temari.

"I… think Shino is right," said a shy Hinata.

"Hinata-sama," questioned Neji.

Naruto became nervous just as Hinata pointed at where Shikamaru was sitting at. It was that pointed finger that made every gaze look towards where she was pointing at. It also made Naruto sweat more as everyone gaped in surprise by how Shikamaru really did look like he was on a date, especially with a pretty blonde-haired girl. It didn't matter if Shikamaru was dressed in the standard Konoha-nin outfit that had the customization of green-lined mesh armor on his wrists and ankles, the plate of his forehead protector sewn into his left sleeve, on this so-called date. He was actually holding his hand out to the pretty female he was with so that he can take her someplace quiet. "I thought he liked Temari-san here," said Tenten.

"Same here," echoed the other Konoha 11.

"I also don't know who she is," exclaimed Ino in astonishment, "And I know everyone and everything that goes around Konohagakure!"

With that exclamation, Ino marched right towards Shikamaru and Usagi, which made everyone, including Naruto, to go to their table. Shikamaru who was still standing next to Usagi blinked as he saw his friends coming towards them. He thought that they weren't coming just as Usagi and he finished eating their lunch. He spied that Naruto was shifting nervously as he looked at his twin sister with apologetic eyes. He knew that something was up, and he was going to get to the bottom of it. But, for now, he had friends who looked kind of enraged at him, especially Ino and Temari. "About time you," started Shikamaru with a bored look on his face before he was interrupted.

"Since when were you dating," exclaimed Ino loudly.

"Huh," questioned Shikamaru.

"You and that girl," said Gaara, "We had reason to believe that you are on a date when we came to look for you and Naruto to hang out."

'So, we didn't already have hangout plans,' thought Shikamaru as he stared at Naruto questioningly.

"So, Shikamaru," said Temari, "Are you really dating this girl?"

"That's not really any of your business," said Shikamaru.

Shikamaru and Naruto both narrowed their eyes at Temari as she spat out the word girl when she was questioning Shikamaru. They didn't like how Temari was disregarding Usagi like she wasn't a girl worthy of Shikamaru's affections. Naruto knew that Usagi still had self-esteem issues due to her secret that not even Shikamaru would have known about, but for Temari to be nasty like that? Shikamaru, on his part, could also tell the undertone of jealousy within Temari's voice. He knew for a while that Temari has feelings for him, but for him, working with Temari was just that… work. He never once thought about her like that, and he didn't even lead Temari on in thinking he did otherwise. Both Shikamaru and Naruto glared deathly at what Temari said next. "I'm sure she's not even strong as a kunoichi," said Temari, "I mean, just look at her! She looks skinny and probably dieting!"

"You are so wrong on so many levels," muttered Naruto.

"Is that all you have to say," questioned Shikamaru.

"There's one more thing I want to say as well," said Temari.

"And that is," said Shikamaru who crossed his arms in annoyance.

"The girls here and I look much more beautiful than this girl," said Temari, "This is probably a pity date to make her feel better. I'm sure you have a crush on someone else entirely."

All of them actually looked at Temari in surprise. They didn't think that her crush on Shikamaru would create a person who would be so mean to a civilian who probably can't defend herself. Naruto clenched his fist as he thought about what his lie would do to Usagi. He never once thought that his plan could backfire so badly. He was, however, shocked when Shikamaru growled out loud before he talked to everyone. "For your information, Temari," spat out Shikamaru, "I AM dating her. She is MY kanojo, and this is NOT a pity date! I actually enjoy her company a LOT more than all the times we had to work together."

"Shikamaru," murmured Usagi in awe.

"She's also the most beautiful girl I have ever known," said Shikamaru. "Especially when her innermost beauty comes out. She has such a pure aura that I believe even the Akatsuki would stop tormenting us with whatever is going on outside these walls. So, shut your mouth because you know nothing on how I feel."

"You go Shika," cheered Chōji.

"Such youthful fire," cried out Rock Lee.

Everyone else looked at Shikamaru in shock once more. It was not every day that a lazy guy like Shikamaru would stand up for a girl who they didn't even know about. Naruto cheered inwardly that mostly his plan was going great. Shikamaru was practically declaring his love for his twin sister, and in front of their friends to boot! So, when Shikamaru grabbed Usagi's hand and pulled her up to get her away from the crowd, Naruto placed a hand on Shikamaru's arm to tell him to wait for him a bit. Naruto then shocked everyone even more, especially a now guilty feeling Temari. "Temari," growled out Naruto.

"N-Naruto," questioned Hinata but was ignored.

"The next time you spew such vile comments about MY imōto," said Naruto…

"…IMŌTO," shouted the Konoha 11 and the Sand siblings.

"…Not even Gaara with his sand powers can keep you safe from my wrath," continued Naruto with a glare that was mixed with his blue colored eyes and the red eyes of that of his tenant, "You won't even be safe from Kurama, since my partner loves Usagi as his own as well."

With that, Temari was definitely frightened more. She, along with everyone, were shocked that not only was Shikamaru was dating a girl, he was dating a specific girl… Naruto's little sister who NO ONE, besides a selected few, knew about. For Naruto, he turned away from his friends and walked side-by-side with Shikamaru and Usagi.

- At Shikamaru's Home –

"Mendokusē," grumbled Shikamaru as he lay down on his floor.

"Gomen," said Naruto with a bow, "I just thought I would push you two to finally confess to each other."

When the trio left, Shikamaru brought the Uzumaki twins to his house. He knew that his parents were away on business, so it was safe to talk to one another. Usagi was blushing furiously as Naruto explained how he knew that Shikamaru and she had feelings for one another. She didn't stop blushing as Naruto explained his plan to Shikamaru and Usagi. As usual, Shikamaru couldn't be bothered by what transpired. He, however, did lock his brown eyes onto Usagi's blushing face and smirked. He now knew that Usagi felt the same towards him like he did with her, but next time, Naruto should just let the two figure out their feelings on their own. Now, Usagi was known to their clique as Naruto's little sister. "Next time," said Usagi gently, "Let us have time to confess?"

"Usa's right," said Shikamaru, "I was planning to actually confess to Usagi tomorrow after the hangout, but you also lied about that too until the end there."

"Gā～," said Naruto who fell down anime style, "I didn't have to plan anything?!"

"I guess not," giggled Usagi.

"Anyways," said Shikamaru, "Are you okay with the others now knowing about Usagi?"

"As long as Dog Breath keeps his paws off of Usagi," said Naruto seriously, "I'm fine with our friends knowing about her."

"If he thinks he can take Usa away from me," said Shikamaru with a smirk, "Kiba has another thing coming."

Usagi sweat-dropped at how protective Shikamaru and Naruto were of her. She guessed that the over protectiveness Naruto had was why he never introduced his friends to her. At least, her secret will be safe… but… Usagi looked at Shikamaru before looking at Naruto. Naruto sat up straighter than ever when he saw Usagi's expression. Naruto knew that expression and turned giddy. It was now time to tell Shikamaru Usagi's secret, and Naruto was all for it, especially to know how Shikamaru's reaction would be. "So, before we can actually date," said a nervous Usagi.

"Hm," hummed Shikamaru, "I thought we were already dating since I did proclaim you as my kanojo."

"Yeah," said Naruto, "Well, there's something you should know about Usagi if you are that serious about dating her."

"I am," said Shikamaru as he looked from one twin to another, "Is this about whatever Usagi is hiding from me ever since we were little?"

"Un," nodded the twins before…

"I am a reincarnated hime from the Moon," said Usagi.

"And," said Naruto, "She also has an ex-engagement to an Earth-ōji that may or may not have been reincarnated in this lifetime too, dattebayo. So, get ready to fight for imōto's hand in marriage, lazy bum."

"Mendokusē," grumbled Shikamaru before… "Usa?"

"H-Hai," questioned Usagi in trepidation.

"Aishiteru," confessed Shikamaru, "Demo, you bring such troublesome things into my life."

"I knew he was going to say that," laughed Naruto out loud.
