Chapter Two:

While it took several minutes of channel surfing, Shirabe eventually managed to find a frequency on the radio that played music that both she and her wife appreciated, namely the song called 'Rainbow Wings' performed by their friend and fellow Symphogear-wielder, Tsubasa Kazanari, back when Tsubasa was one half of the Idol duo Zwei Wing. As the song played on the radio and eventually reached its climax, Kirika and Shirabe couldn't help themselves from singing and when the song finished, Halfeti in the wielder of the Igalima-Symphogear's lap began stirring and eventually started waking up. Rather needless to say, the young girl initially panicked (unintentionally giving Kirika a kick in the stomach as Halfeti tried to scurry away from the stranger) before recognizing the woman.

"You're the lady who cut my leg in half!" While Halfeti didn't necessarily try to intentionally sound accusatory (merely saying the first thing that popped up in her head), what she said still stung for the wielder of the Igalima-Symphogear.

"Ouch. That I did. But doing so saved your life." Replied Kirika with no small amount of regret in her voice.

"It still hurt! Who are you anyway!?"

"My name is Kirika. Kirika Akatsuki-Tsukuyomi. The other woman is my wife, Shirabe." Instead of getting an immediate response from the young girl at the revelation that Kirika was not only married but more specifically married to another woman, Kirika only got an expression of surprise from Halfeti, who just blinked a few times before shrugging.

"You married another woman?"

"Yup. Happily so. What? You got a problem with that?"

"I don't. But my aunt and uncle seem to."

"Seemed."

"What?"

"How do I put this… well…"

"They're dead. Disintegration by Alca-Noise tends to do that." Stated Shirabe bluntly, deciding to skip trying to sugarcoat it and simply rip the metaphorical band aid off.

"They're… gone?"

"Yeah. Sorry we failed to prevent it." Replied Kirika, who genuinely regretted her failure to prevent the loss of life.

"…"

"Kid?"

"Is it a bad thing that I'm happy they're dead?"

"I don't know what to say to that. I assume that they weren't… nice?"

"Correct."

"I see… if you're willing, kid, Shirabe and I could take you into our care and become your new guardians."

"No objections here, Kirika."

"I'm not really against it, but why?"

"Call it a kind of kinship between orphans."

"But you're adults."

"Doesn't change that all three of us are orphans. If you ask me, being an orphan doesn't just end because you reach adulthood. It becomes significantly less important, sure, but it doesn't just go away."

"Well said, Kirika. You have your moments sometimes."

"Thank you, and what do you mean by 'sometimes'?"

"I love you and am happily married to you, so don't take this the wrong way, but you aren't necessarily the brightest person I know."

"Hey! I know I'm not the brightest but did you really have to say it like that?"

"Luckily for you, I happen to find that part about you endearing." Whatever remaining gloom regarding her aunt and uncle's demise (which admittedly wasn't much to begin with) evaporated rather quickly as Halfeti found herself rather entertained by the married couple bickering to the point where she was on the verge of bursting out laughing. Eventually, it reached the point where Halfeti couldn't hold back her laughter anymore and she let out her first genuine laugh in a long time.

"If this is what I can expect from having you two as guardians then I think I'll accept your offer."

"Happy to have you, kid. But since you're gonna be living with us, I believe it's time you formally introduce yourself."

"You're right, Shirabe. The name's Halfeti. Halfeti Potter."
