Welcome back to City of Angels and Demons. Last time, Spyro and Cynder finally started talking to the mystery woman who they ran into, now revealed to be named Christina Summer, who also goes by Mae. But while the conversation is ongoing, the men who are after her come in guns blazing. Cynder had Spyro get Summer out the back of the room while Cynder herself went straight into battle. So, how's that going to go? Read on to discover...
(Our tale resumes in SWAT HQ, where the firefight is still going on. The corrupt cops sent after Christina Summer are still gunning down everyone in sight, with any SWAT officer that isn't already dead firing back on them, including Hondo and Deacon with their standard police sidearms, having had no time in the blitz to secure better arms. And at this moment, Hondo has a grim realization)
Hondo: (As he reloads his gun) We're not making a dent in them! Whatever gear they've got is top of the line!
Deacon: We need to get into the armory!
(At that point, the door the two were guarding bursts open, and Cynder slinks out beneath the gunfire, tagging Hondo on the shoulder to get his attention)
Hondo: Cynder? What are you doing out here?!
Cynder: Coming to your rescue!
Hondo: We need you protecting Christina!
Cynder: Spyro's evacuating her as we speak. So you've got me. What's the plan?
Hondo: (Realizing he's not going to win this fight) We need to get into the armory. Just about anything from there should get past these guys' armor.
Cynder: Can do. Where's the armory from here?
Deacon: (Fires a shot) Right behind them.
Cynder: Smart move on their part, block us off from our heavy weapons.
Hondo: Think you can sneak around them?
Cynder: (Conjuring the Shadow element around her arm) Forget going around. Leave this to me.
(Not wasting a second, Cynder dives into her shadow and sneaks between the many shadows cast around the room by lights hanging from the ceiling after being shot at. and the enemy doesn't notice her slip right under them, literally. Now past the enemy, Cynder enters the armory and grabs a heavy caliber rifle)
Cynder: This should do it.
(As Cynder grabs her weapon, the assailants move in, and only now do they notice the shadows are weird)
Corrupt Cop: Wait. Something's wrong. The shadows...
Corrupt Cop 2: You've been watching too much Doctor Who. They're not moving.
Corrupt Cop: That's the problem! They were moving before!
(Just as the three of them realize what's gone wrong, the sound of a gun cocking can be heard as Cynder emerges from the armory)
Corrupt Cop: (Sees Cynder) One of the dragons! ICE THEM!
(Without a word, Cynder ducks under the enemy fire and returns fire herself. But the gear they're wearing is staying intact, even against this particular rifle)
Cynder: (Ducks behind cover and checks the ammo) Knew I should have grabbed the armor piercing rounds!
(But it turns out, Cynder's shots were just the distraction Hondo and Deacon needed to take out two of the gunmen. And with those two down, the third one is off his game, allowing for Cynder to sneak in and sucker punch him out of commission.)
Cynder: (Reloading her weapon) That takes care of them.
Hondo: Whatever armor these guys have, it's far from civilian issue.
Cynder: Yeah, stopping rounds from one of these things isn't easy. That's got to be Level III body armor at least.
Deacon: Where'd they get gear like this?
(While Deacon asks that exact question, Cynder notices something the pocket of one of the assailants. Something she never expected to see)
Cynder: Call me crazy, but I think this'll answer that question.
(Now Cynder holds up the object she noticed in the assailant's pocket: an LAPD badge)
Deacon: They're LAPD?!
Cynder: Unless this is counterfeit.
Hondo: We'll need to get that to Hicks straight away.
Cynder: First we've got to let Spyro know to bring our mystery woman back in. Christina, you said her name was?
(Hondo goes to respond, but before he can, the sound of tires squealing against asphalt can be heard, accompanied by a woman's screams. With no words, everybody realizes Christina Summer is in danger, and the trio heads out back, following Cynder, as our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So the assailants have been stopped, and now the grim realization dawns on everyone. These three are LAPD. Or are they? We'll have to wait to figure that one out, at least until whatever is going on out back is resolved. So, is Christina Summer alright? I'm guessing not. But for the answers: tune in next time! Same time... same channel!
