Welcome one and all to this year's Veteran's Day Special! I don't even know how many years I've been doing this special, and I know updating all my active stories admittedly isn't much to thank our active-duty troops and veterans for defending the freedoms we hold dear day in and day out, but this is a long-standing tradition, and I don't plan on stopping now. So this is Part I. Last time, Spyro, Cynder, Hondo, and Deacon reviewed the evidence in the previous investigation of Christina Summer's disappearance and found some things rather odd. Namely, Christina Summer wasn't the only one who disappeared in that area around that time, more like the fifth in as many months. And the call that indicated she ran off with somebody she met online appears to have been scripted. Taking the files to Hicks, everybody starts to realize something is rotten here. So, what do they find? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up after Officer Azaria and Inspector Lesus have left, with Spyro, Cynder, Hondo, and Deacon showing Hicks the strange details they've uncovered from the evidence in Christina's previous disappearance case)
Hicks: I can't believe this. How did nobody link this case to four others in four preceeding months?
Spyro: Considering a member of Officer Azaria's investigative team was involved in recapturing Christina, they probably ensured it was buried.
Cynder: Thankfully somebody made sure it wasn't.
Hicks: Knowing this, our next move seems clear. We've got to find out who these other four disappearances were.
Hondo: Agreed. If we can find a commonality between those disappearances and Christina's, we may find out who's behind all this.
Hicks: Admittedly, we don't have much to work with. Just that they're in Silver Lake and around the same area. But I should be able to narrow it down.
Cynder: I hate to add more to your plate, but we also noticed something was fishy in the call that closed Christina's case.
Hicks: That being?
Deacon: Somebody appears to be saying "Read it" to Christina.
Hicks: So the call was staged?
Hondo: That's the theory anyways. Chances are, that's our kidnapper talking.
Hicks: I'll see what I can do. Hopefully we'll get somewhere.
Hondo: Any word from the rest of the team?
Hicks: Nothing yet.
(And of course, just as he says that, a message comes into Hondo's radio. It's from Luca)
Hondo: 22-David, what's going on?
Luca: 20-David, the van that Spyro saw Christina get forced into just turned up.
Hondo: Let me guess, in Silver Lake?
Luca: (Taken aback by this) How'd you know that?!
Hondo: Call it a lucky guess.
Luca: Regardless, we're in pursuit. Could use some backup
Hondo: We're on our way. (Hangs up) The getaway van just turned up. The rest of the team is in pursuit.
Deacon: Let's roll.
Cynder: You guys roll, we'll fly.
Spyro: Then let's not dawdle. (Punches his hand in anger at the previous events involving that van) I'm not letting these creeps get away twice.
Hicks: I'll keep looking here. If I find anything, I'll call you.
Hondo: Motor pool's this way. Let's move!
(Without a moment's hesitation, the quartet sets up towards the motor pool to grab some wheels for the chase, while Hicks continues to go over the data, hoping to identify the other four victims. As an unmarked police car pulls out of SWAT's motor pool with Spyro and Cynder flying behind them clad in bullet resistant gear our scene concludes for today)
This concludes Part I of the Veteran's Day Special. For Part II, head on over to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. So, now the hunt for the other four disappearances begins. But for now, that's just left to Hicks in the background, since some more important evidence just turned up. The getaway van from the assault on SWAT. With Luca and the rest of the team in pursuit. So next time, a classic SWAT car chase! Now this is going to be fun. Hopefully the rest of the team getting involved will bring this chase to a swift end, and Christina Summer will be recovered safely. But is that how this will go? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
