Ferdinand was as good as his word. The Logging Locos knew exactly what to do. They told Harvy, Rocky and the workmen how they gathered logs on Misty Island and together, they all were making quick work of clearing the lines.

At last, Thomas and the Logging Locos collected the last of the fallen trees. They made their way back to the Timber Yard while Henry took the Breakdown Train to the Rescue Centre.

Then there was trouble.

As the four engines disappeared into Crosby Tunnel, there was a loud crumbling sound. Rock and rubble suddenly crashed behind them.

"Cinders and ashes!" cried Thomas.

The sound echoed all around the tunnel. The engines couldn't tell if was coming from one end or the other as well.

The Twins were scared. "What do we do now?!" cried Bash.

"Go faster!" called Thomas.

Bravely, Bash, Dash and Ferdinand bumped into each other and Thomas and pushed. The four engines pumped their pistons harder and faster. Daylight shown from the other end of the tunnel. Then, more rock rumbled down.

"Hurry!" Thomas cried.

The engines raced as fast as they could…but it wasn't fast enough. The rubble created a wall. The engines crashed into it, but it wouldn't budge. They were all stuck in the tunnel. With a gasp and a groan, they stopped pushing.

"Cinders and ashes!" moaned Thomas. "This is a disaster!"

"Now what?!" asked Dash.

Thomas wasn't sure. "There's only one thing we can do. Make as much noise as we can and hope someone hears us."

"It's worth a try," agreed Ferdinand.

"Help! We're stuck!" the engines cried and blew their whistles as loudly as they could.

High in the sky, Harold was scanning the island for trouble. He didn't hear Thomas and the Logging Locos, but he could see the situation. "That sure looks like trouble!" he said to himself. "Back to the Rescue Centre!"

In the tunnel, the engines were running out of breath. "We can't keep this up," Dash panted.

"We should rest for a while before we try again," said Ferdinand.

"But what if someone passes and doesn't here us?" asked Bash.

"The important thing is to remain calm."

"That's right," said Thomas. "Besides, this tunnel is on the Main Line. Someone is sure to notice soon."

"That's right," agreed Ferdinand.

So, Bash and Dash rested their boilers and tried to calm down.

Percy was carrying supplies to Brendam Docks. He puffed around the bend and gasped. "Flatten my funnel! What's this?" Percy slowed down as he neared the tunnel to Crosby.

In the tunnel, the engines were still worried. Suddenly, they heard the clickety-clack of wheels on tracks.

"Listen," said Thomas.

The Logging Locos' eyes popped wide. Then, they all whistled again.

"Hello?! Is anyone there?!" Thomas called.

"Thomas? Is that you?! It's Percy!"

Thomas whistled again. "Yes Percy, It's me! The Logging Locos are here too! We're stuck!"

"Don't worry, Thomas!" Percy called back. "I'll get help!" And he raced back to Knapford as fast as he could.

At the Search & Rescue Centre, the walls and beams were still standing, but rubbish and debris lay everywhere. Diesel had been helping the workmen clear the mess and he sulked all the while.

Then, Harold touched down nearby. "The tunnel near Crosby has collapsed! It's blocked at both ends!"

The Foreman ran up. "I have just received a message from Sir Topham Hatt! Thomas and the Logging Locos are trapped in the tunnel! Diesel, you must take the Breakdown Train and get them out."

Disel snorted. "I won't."

"What do you mean?"

"It's not my fault those silly steamies got stuck in that tunnel. They can get themselves out."

"If they could, they would have done so by now," said Harold.

"The Main Line is blocked," added the Foreman. "They can't divert all trains up Thomas' Branch and around the Loop."

"I said 'no!'" growled Diesel.

Below the dock, Captain had arrived and heard everything. "Diesel, Thomas saved you when you were on the bridge. It wasn't his fault you were there, so should he have left you to fall into the sea?"

Diesel was silent. He looked up to the bridge. He could well remember how scared he was. If it hadn't been for Thomas, the Jobi Logs would've pulled him into the sea with them. Diesel also knew the Logging Locos were new to Sodor. "They must be scared too," he said quietly to himself. Diesel's engine spluttered. "Fine," he groaned, "but let's hurry!"

Back in the tunnel, Thomas and the Logging Locos were still waiting for help.

"Will they be able to dig us out?" asked Bash.

"Don't worry," said Thomas. "Many of my friends have had mishaps with tunnels. They'll be able to get us out too."

Suddenly, rocks rumbled again.

"Oh no!" said Bash, "perhaps the whole tunnel is going to fall in on us now."

"I don't think so," said Ferdinand thoughtfully. "Nothing else is rumbling. I can hear the sound coming from the other end."

Thomas was excited. "I told you help would come! We'll be out of here in no time!"

It was a long job, but at last, the rubble was cleared.

"You're all clear to back out!" called the Foreman and, with whistles of joy, Ferdinand, Dash, Bash and Thomas steamed out of the tunnel.

Thomas was surprised to see Diesel with the Breakdown Train. "Diesel! you saved us?"

"Um…yes," said Diesel quietly.

"Thank you!"

Diesel grumped. "Well, you saved me, so…now we're even."

"Thank you, Diesel!" called Bash.

"You're our hero of the day!" cheered Dash.

"That's right!" agreed Thomas and Ferdinand together.

The engines whistled and cheered, and Diesel couldn't help but smile.

Diesel stayed to clear the rest of the rubble and Thomas and the Logging Locos took the Loop Line to the Timber Yard.

At last, everything was running again. The tracks were clear, the debris was collected and even Crosby Tunnel was repaired just in time for the grand opening of the Sodor Search & Rescue Centre. People and engines had gathered around; they were very excited. The buildings were ready, and the Jobi Wood glistened in the sunshine.

The Fat Controller stepped forward. "Today is a very special day made possible by very special engines," he boomed. "While there might have been some confusion and delay, everyone has worked their hardest. From what we have seen and heard, a lot has happened; Thomas saved Diesel from an unfinished bridge and then, helped our three newest engines find a new home, Bash, Dash and Ferdinand managed to get our railway running again quickly and Diesel performed valiantly when rescuing them and Thomas from Crosby Tunnel. These rescues have proven how important a place like this can be to our island and in completing the job, I am proud to say that you have all been Really Useful Engines. Welcome to our new friends and thank you all for your help. I am happy to declare the Sodor Search & Rescue Centre is now…open!"

The engines blew their whistles and blasted their airhorns and everyone cheered.

Bash and Dash smiled at each other. "We're Really Useful!" they declared happily.

"That's right!" said Thomas and Ferdinand proudly and everyone cheered again.

Now, Bash, Dash and Ferdinand are as happy as can be. Usually, they can be seen at the Timber Yards or elsewhere on Sodor collecting logs or delivering fresh timber. When there is a mess to clear or something new being built, the Fat Controller usually calls on them first. Thomas is very happy for his friends and the Logging Locos are proud to call the Island of Sodor their home.
