"Hey, Pau," Tord spoke as he looked at him.
Pau averted his gaze from Pat to look at the Norsk. They sat at the table waiting for breakfast before Pau and Pat had to leave for work, and Tord did who-knows-what.
"Yes?" The ruffled brunet raised an eyebrow.
"It's your day off tomorrow, right?"
"Mhm..." Pau wondered where this was going.
Tord glanced behind him, making sure Pat wasn't listening before speaking lowly, "I'm going to be gone all day tomorrow- it's Matt's birthday, and he wanted to celebrate it at his childhood home with his father, so the guys and I are tagging along."
"And...?"
"And I wanted you to make a move on Pat." Tord gritted through his teeth.
Pau shook his head, "Not a chance."
"Uh- there's a chance."
"Eh- no, there's not." Pau frowned, "And he's working tomorrow."
"So? You could visit his workplace."
The taller grunted, "How could I make a move at a diner, of all places?"
"Why are you guys whispering?" Pat spoke, startling the duo.
"No reason," Pau spoke.
"Right- breakfast is ready." He walked off to put everything back.
Tord turned to Pau again, hissing, "Figure it out!"
Pau rolled his eyes as he got up to get his plate. He wasn't going to do it.
'Ik kan niet geloven dat ik dit doe...' Pau sighed as he pulled the diner door open. He glanced around before sitting in a booth near the back of the building. He fidgeted and twirled something between his fingers; a present for a special someone.
A waitress walked up to him a few moments later, "Have you been served yet?"
"Oh- actually, I wanted to drop something off." Pau smiled awkwardly, "If you don't mind."
"Sure...?" The waitress nodded a bit, "What is it?"
"See that employee over there?" Pau pointed to where Pat stood, his back facing them, "Can you give this to him?"
He held up the present to the lady, who nodded again as she took it in her hands, "Sure can do."
Pat was writing down orders across the way, getting ready to return to the kitchen, when another employee sauntered up to him with something in her hand.
"Some guy wanted to give this to you." She told him, handing him the delicate item.
Pat raised an eyebrow, peering at the yellow sunflower. He saw there was a note attached and unfolded it, reading the words-
'Ik hoorde dat je van deze bloemen houdt '
He chuckled a bit, 'He didn't... what an idiot.'
Still, he kept the sunflower on him for the rest of the work shift, feeling lighter on his feet.
Pat opened the door to the flat, tired after another workday. He closed the door and set his bag down before noticing Pau was asleep on the couch.
'Tord's still out then.' He thought, moving through the living room to the kitchen, 'I guess Tord's eating dinner there too.'
Glancing at Pau's sleeping figure on the couch, Pat decided to listen to music with earbuds while he cooked.
Placing the sunflower in a vase on the table, he popped his earbuds in and began preparing dinner.
Unbeknownst to him, Pau was stirring awake, rubbing his eye as he sat up. He groaned, realizing he passed out since he was so bored.
Getting up to stretch, the ruffled brunette heard sounds coming from the kitchen. Glimpsing at the time, he concluded it was Pat and couldn't believe he slept that long.
He walked to the kitchen doorway, stopping when he saw his roommate.
Pat was humming something, singing lyrics under his breath. Pau assumed it was a slower song based on how the shorter moved around the area, doing everything with a bit of grace to it.
The taller watched the other from the doorway, a small smile donning his lips.
It wasn't until he turned around to get something from the fridge that Pat saw Pau watching him.
Pat jumped, not expecting to see him as he took out his earbuds, "Co do cholery- what are you doing?"
"What does it look like I'm doing?" Pau remarked.
"Being creepy, that's what." Pat crossed his arms, "Isn't there anything else you can do besides stare at me?"
Pau hummed, pretending to think, "Don't think so."
Pat sighed as he continued to cook.
As they sat down for dinner, Pau decided to make a move as he gestured to the vase, "What's with the flower?"
"I dunno, you tell me- you're the one who didn't have the balls to give it to me face-to-face."
Pau held his tongue, restraining himself from arguing with Pat. He cleared his throat, "I would've, but it looked like you were busy."
"Really?" Pat quirked an eyebrow, "That's funny, 'cause you always love to bother me whenever I'm busy... wonder what was different this time."
"You're not making this easier for me." Pau covered his face with his hands, grunting.
"I know," Pat smirked.
Pau let out a sigh, taking a deep breath as he looked at Pat, "Your favorite flowers are sunflowers, right?"
"Yes, why?"
"No reason."
After cleaning up the dishes from dinner, Pat found a note on the table.
'Hope we can have dinner again- just the two of us. '
At the bottom of the page was a small sentence written messily and haphazardly.
'P.S. I love seeing you smile, zonnebloem.'
Growing red, Pat huffed as he walked to his shared room with Pau, "Can you not say these things to me, or what?"
Pau turned from where he was rummaging through the closet, "Of course, I can say those things."
"Oh? Then you better start talking." Pat gave him a teasing grin.
Pau averted his gaze as he stuttered, "W-Why don't you do it since clearly, you know what I'm on about?"
Pat hummed, "I would, but it looks like you want to do it."
Pau rolled his eyes, face ablaze as he gazed at the other, "Right..."
"So...?"
There was a moment of reluctance, where Pau thought this was some sort of sick joke even if he knew Pat wouldn't do something like that to him, worry and doubt still reflected in his eyes as he averted his glance.
A hesitant hand reached out to his, holding it gently, "Hey..."
Pau slowly looked up, peering into the other's eyes.
"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't feel the same way," Pat said softly.
Pau took a deep breath as he spoke, "Ik houd van jou, Pat."
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to hear that..." The shorter mumbled as he smiled and wrapped his arms around Pau, who waited before hugging back.
Sighing in relief, the ruffled brunette finally felt content.
