A/N: Hello! I hope you all are doing alright. I might've gone a bit crazy on this one. Enjoy.

Also, I deleted the Rules chapter. Hopefully that'll fix whatever was causing the story to not appear. We didn't really need it at this point, right?

Chapter 4

Jaune grunted slightly as Ruby finished tying up the last of his bandages.

They were currently sitting down in a hidden alcove deep down in the bowels of the Capital's sewers, waiting for their escort to come back. That had been an hour ago.

He grunted again as he shifted to don his armor again. He then rolled his shoulder where he had been stabbed. It was stiff but usable. He turned and gave his companion a brief nod in acknowledgement. She smiled back before looking away, a slight flush on her face.

(Short Rest, Characters fully healed and abilities restored. Jaune heals 5 points and regains one use of Lay on Hands. Ruby gains 1 point of AC from donning Leather armor)

He blinked at that and frowned, not knowing what any of that meant. He made to say something only to be interrupted by the door to their room shrieking loudly as it opened, revealing their escort, a thief named Lotus.

The mousy woman-not an actual mouse, though-looked them over before saying with a grin full of brown, broken teeth, "Oi, sorry, Loves. No time fer Mackin' noaw! We's gots to goes."

"Why? What's happening out there?" Ruby asked as she reattached the strings holding her tarnished cloak over her new armor before snatching up her longbow and quiver.

"Ba' News." Lotus returned as she crossed her arms and glanced outside moment.

(Perception Check, Roll Result: 13 + 2 = 15)

Then she turned back to her and said, "Durned Guards came 'n' messed wit' th' Boss. Durned Cult!" -She spat out a wad of brownish slime then-"Theys a nava done tha' if'n tweren't fer 'em!"

She inhaled deeply then and sighed before rubbing at her face. "Right. 'ere's th' dealio. Boss says ta get ya two 'ou of 'ere fer shit goes So'th. Ways I's sees it. Things al'eady did tha' when theys attacked th' Boss. So, I's takes youse two th' exit at Th' Square, an' on th' ways, mayhaps we ma' some noise, yes? 'ow tha' soun's ta youse?"

Ruby looked to Jaune then and opened her mouth to speak only for him to jerk his head from side to side harshly. "No," He stated harshly. "We go. Now. Together. While we can. That's the plan." He paused, pondered for a moment, then nodded. "That's the plan. I get you out of here. Get you to safety."

(Insight Check (Ruby), Roll Result: 19)

Ruby listened as he spoke, hearing the underlying tension in the man's voice, seeing the quiver in his hands, and nodded. Then she asked, "And, afterwards?"

He paused at that, and shook his head, driving away the nightmare that was his past, and said, "Afterwards? We'll come up with a plan." He looked at her squarely in the eyes as he said, "I will keep you safe. By my Oath, I will. On that I promise."

Ruby once more flushed and looked away from him, nodding before placing her hood on her head. Lotus looked between the two before rolling her eyes and said, "Aw right! Jeez! Put a finger in fer cryin' out loud!" She sighed and turned away, shaking her head. "Was 'oping fer a bit of excitement ta day, but nah this! Heh, jus' goes ta show ya wha' 'appens when ya wish fer som'thin'."

She shook her head again before waving her hands over her head as she started out of the room. "Com' on noaw! Let's goes!"

The two companions looked at each other again for a moment before nodding in silent agreement as they finding donning the rest of their arsenal and walked out of the room. Jaune moved to take watch as Ruby and Lotus finished locking up the hidden alcove again. As they did Lotus turned to Ruby and said, "I's sees youse gots a pair of knives 'ere. Ya knoaw 'ow ta use 'em?"

Ruby nodded and said, "Yes. Though, I prefer bows and longer blades. Axes. I lived in a small village near to here. Daggers did little against the things we fought there, why?"

Lotus looked over at the stoic, silent Paladin and the knives on his belt and then back to Ruby before grinning once more as she asked, "Do youse wan' ta knoaw 'ow ta throw 'em be'ter?"

Ruby narrowed her eyes at that as she asked, "How?

The older, somewhat grimy woman shrugged and said, "It'll be a swift thin'. Though, naowt acc'rate, it'll let ya use 'em as a bit as either a distr'ction, or, mayhaps, as a bit o' a bonus action, eh."

Ruby thought it over before long to Jaune and said, "Okay. Show me."

Lotus gave her another one of though big, broken tooth smile then and nodded at her.

It took another hour before they finally reached the end of their journey in the sewer. Lotus led the way up a rusting ladder before she inched open the loosen grate above. She paused and listened for a moment.

(Perception Check, Roll Result: 2 + 1 = 3)

After not hearing anything she finished shoving the grate to one side and pulled herself out of the sewer. She looked around again as she reached down help them up.

(Perception Check, Roll Result: 1 (Critical Failure))

And almost fell back into the hole as Jaune pulled at her as he clambered up himself. She cursed under her breath at that and shook her arm to relieve the tingles before grasping for Ruby's hand.

After pulling the young girl up she turned and lead them through a series of alleyways towards the Central Square of the Capital.

Once they got there, the trio froze at what they saw.

Mutilated bodies were crucified, lining the square on makeshift crosses and poles as sacrifices to the Cult of Salem and its dark Goddess. In the center of the square was a lit bonfire and a flat slab of stone. A bloody slab of stone. As Jaune looked at the corpses hanging and the great bonfire in the middle of the square he was reminded once more of his past, of what happened with his family, and knew what was to come.

(Perception Check (Jaune), With Advantage (Circumstantial)Roll Result: 8 + 1, 9 + 1 = 9, 10)

And, as he looked around, he found that he was right. There near to the fire and the Sacrificial Altar was a wheeled cart and cage. And there were people within. Sacrifices to Salem.

Just like his family had been.

He swallowed at that before wrapping the cloak he had more tightly around him. They had to get out here. Now.

"This is my fault." Ruby whispered then, tears in her eyes as she looked at the mutilated bodies on the poles. "I should never have come here. This is my fault."

(Persuasion Check (Jaune): 17 + 2 = 19, Will Save (Ruby) 17; Persuasion Succeed)

"No!" Jaune barked at her in sudden anger. He turned and stalked over to her and grasped her by the shoulders before giving her a shake. "No, miss Rose. This, this madness here is not your fault." She looked up at him as a tear fell from her luminous silver eyes. He swallowed and loosened his grip on her arms as he said calmly, "Just it wasn't my fault, or my father's fault, when those blasted bastards killed and butchered my family, my father, my mother, and my sisters, for going against their religion."

He shook his head, his eyes dark.

"This madness has been going on since long before either you or I were born. It's just now out in the open. That's all."

He nodded at her as he said, "There is nothing more for you here, Miss Rose. Let us go now."

She looked at him then out at the people in the cage and shook her head. She turned back to him then and said, "I can't just leave them behind, Jaune."

"Yeh, ya can, Girl." Lotus said then and pointed at the cage. They watch as a pair of guards pulled out one the people in the cage and started dragging her, screaming towards the altar when a giant of a man in bloody Priest robes held an equally bloody dagger in hand. "Theys all al'eady dead, girl!"

Ruby shook her head and placed her hands on either side of Jaune's face as she said calmly, "No. I cannot. And neither can you, Jaune. I know this. Because, even, though, I tried to persuade you to help me beforehand-and did a terrible job at it-even, though, I ruined what life you had here, you helped me. Over and over again. Because that's the kind of person you are. A Good Man."

She let go of his face as he lowered his head till his eyes were hidden from her gaze.

"And a Good Man like you can't leave innocents to die. Anymore than I can. And, if I'm wrong. If that's not the kind of man you are. Then just know that I'm going anyway." She paused, waiting for him to look back up at her. When he did she said with an eyebrow raised, "Got it?"

(Persuasion Check (Ruby): 18 + 2= 20; Will Save, with Disadvantage (Jaune) (Haunted Backstory) 19 + 3, 5 +3 = 22, 8; Persuasion Succeed)

He gave her a small, quiet smile and nodded at her. She sighed with relief at that, tears flowing down her cheeks. He brushed a thumb against one as he murmured, "You are horrible at persuading people to help you, Ruby. But, I am glad that you've come into my life." He sighed then and looked out at what was before them and nodded. "Very well. Let's do this. Lotus, are you with us?"

The mousy haired thief sighed heavily before shrugging and pulling out the black bow she had as she said, "Ach, what's it matter noaw? Aye, let's goes, Shiny Boy and Girlie. Ta'day's a goo day ta die as any ot'er!"

/ /

Of the seven guards standing around the square, five were guarding the cages that came in every now and then, full of malcontents and dissents that the roving bands of Cultists and Guards further in the city sent their way. All were to be sacrificed to their Patron Goddess as punishment for letting a Chosen escape.

The guards all knew that if they voiced a complaint or grievance then they too might find themselves, or their families, on the chopping block, and they kept silent. Besides, the sacrifices were those no one would miss. Animals, Foreigners, Adventurers. Not worth the lives they'd be wasting instead as they flitted around their Kingdom.

The great Kingdom of Arcadia!

Without warning just as he was about to bring the axe down on the woman struggling before him the priest was struck by an arrow as was one of the guards holding the woman down. The priest fell back with a cry of pain and alarm, clutching at his chest even as the guard collapsed silently an arrow buried in the back of his skull.

As the other guard next to his looked up at that he heard one of his allies near the cage suddenly grunt in pain and looked over to see him clutching at his abdomen where a javelin was sticking out under his armor.

"Alarm!" He cried out unnecessarily as the other guards took up their spears and shields, or, in the case of their sergeant, drew their longsword and began looking around for the threat.

It didn't take long to find as Ruby and Jaune dashed into the square with Lotus behind them. "There!" The sergeant bellowed, pointing towards them.

He then held back to guard the prisoners as his men, beyond the one next to the priest, moved in to confront the trio as they charged in.

Realizing just how serious the situation was the Sergeant drew the whistle around his neck and blew into it.

(Bonus Action: Performance Check (Sergeant); Roll Result: Natural 20; Critical Success!) (Oh, boy. We on a timetable now, guys!)

The whistle let out a high pitch, clear note that resounded throughout the Square and beyond. Then the sergeant drew his bow and notched an arrow before loosing it at the armored form of the Paladin before them.

(Roll for Attack (Sergeant): 19 + 4 = 23, Jaune Arc AC 20; Roll Result: Success) (Who is this guy?! What the fuck? Doesn't he know that only the heroes are suppose to roll this good right off the bat?)

(Roll for Damage: 1d8 + 2; Roll Result: 6 + 2 = 8 points of damage) (Again, WTF?! Unexpected MVP of the bad guys so far.)

Jaune flinched as the arrow struck him in the chest, the steel head of the arrow penetrating his plate armor and piercing the flesh within. Then he shrugged it off to attack the nearest guard even as he healed himself once more.

(Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 6 + 5 = 11, Guard (1) AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

(Swift Action, Lay on Hands (Self): Heal 5 HP)

Jaune hissed in annoyance as he missed, the pain from the attack lowering his accuracy. The guard danced backwards from his blow and held his shield and spear at the ready for a follow up attack.

"Quickly," he shouted, ordering the other two. "We need to hurry before reinforcements get here!"

Ruby nodded at him as she drew and notched an arrow before loosing it at one of the guards.

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 2 + 5 = 7, Guard (2) AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

Only to curse under her breath as the guard blocked it with his shield. Then she tossed a dagger at another of the guards as she tried to flank to the left hoping to break up the guard ranks.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 7 + 5 - 5 (Bonus Action drawback) = 7, Guard (3) AC 16; Roll Result: Failure) (More below on this Bonus Action)

She growled as she saw that the dagger was blocked as well as she made her way around the square. "Lotus!" She shouted out, preparing to defend herself. "Do something!"

The mousy-haired woman nodded back before raising and loosing the arrows she had on her bow as she stood back, aiming first for the guard that Jaune was facing.

(Roll to Attack (Lotus): 16 + 4, 6 + 4 (+ 1 for Black Longbow for both) = 21, 11; Guard (1) AC 16; Roll Result: One Success, One Failure)

(Roll for Damage: 1d8 + 3; Roll Result: 7 + 3 (+ 1 for Black Longbow) = 11 points of Damage)

With a quick snap of her magical bow two arrows shot towards the guard. He blocked one with his shield just like his compatriot had and grinned at that only to drop dead as the second arrow lanced him in the face through the visor.

Lotus grinned at that before tossing a dagger at the guard nearest to Ruby.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Lotus): 10 + 4 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 9; Guard (2) AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

Only to see the guard once more block the projectile with her shield. Lotus then shrugged before holding her position hiding in the back.

The guard near the priest moved away from the woman on the Altar and placed himself in front of the wounded man, holding his spear at the ready. Meanwhile the rest of the guards in between the trio and the cage made to attack Jaune and Ruby.

(Roll to Attack, Guard (2): 3 + 3 = 6; Ruby AC 14; Roll Result: Failure)

(Roll to Attack, Guard (3): 9 + 3 = 12; Jaune AC 20; Roll Result Failure)

Both guards stabbed at the pair from behind their shields, but their slower pace and flanking stance to each other made it harder to hit their more nimble opponents, even the heavily armored paladin.

The final guard, the wounded one, slowly crept up behind his allies before stopping and clutched at his wounded side, finding himself bleeding out. He blinked, gasping for breath as his movement caused the javelin to dig in a little more.

(Wound Disadvantage (Impaled): - 10ft to movement and 1d4 Bleed Damage per turn (Situational) (Bleed damage roll; 1d4; Roll Result: 1 point of continual damage)

He groaned at that before holding his position at the rear of the formation.

The priest continued to gasp in pain, clutching at his chest. Then he looked up at who had attacked them, and gasped as he saw who they were. Or, what they were.

He pointed and Ruby and screamed, "It's the Chosen! The Demon! A Silver Eyes!" He took out a small, strange flask from within his robes and began gathering his Divine (Profane) magics in his hands as he roared out vehemently, "We must sacrifice her! Do not let her Flee! Or, we'll all die in her place!"

(Morale Diminished, Guard (Priest Guard), Guard (2), Guard (wounded), - 2 to Attack and Damage for one Turn, Disadvantage to Fear Effects)

The sergeant seemed to shake off what the Priest said and in turn ordered his men to attack before taking up his whistle again and blew in to it again.

(Bonus Action: Performance Check (Sergeant); Roll Result: 18; Success) (Yep, MVP)

As another high pitch tweet resounded around the Square the trio heard an answering tweet further up in the city's streets, and knew they were out of time.

(Reinforcements in 10 Rounds)

The sergeant then once more readied his bow, and loosed it at Jaune. Again.

(Roll for Attack (Sergeant): 3 + 4 + 2 (Morale Bonus)= 9, Jaune Arc AC 20; Roll Result: Failure) (Ha! Finally! Remember, friends, the RNG Gods are Fickle as heck!)

This time the knight was ready and ducked to one side as the man shot at him. Then he moved towards the guard before him swung at her.

(Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 15 + 5 = 20, Guard (2) AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 1d10 + 3; Roll Result: 5 + 3 = 8 points of damage)

The woman screamed as he cleaved through the chain shirt she was wearing. She stumbled backwards, bleeding heavily, and attempted to try and raise her shield to block whatever was coming next.

But she needn't have worried as Jaune then threw one of the knives he had on his person at the Priest as a means to distract him from completing his spell.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Jaune): 13 + 5 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 13; Priest AC 13; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 1d4 + 3; Roll Result: 1 + 3 = 4 points of damage)

The priest grunted as the dagger spun end over end to impale him in the shoulder. He gritted his teeth as he attempted to continue to concentrate on the spell.

(Concentration Check, DC 10; Roll Result: 18, Succeeds)

At the same time Ruby loosed the arrow she had notched and fired it at the cage itself.

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 6 + 5 =11, Lock AC 19; Roll Result: Failure)

She gritted her teeth as the arrow missed and instead imbedded itself in the wooden planking of the wagon itself. "Damnit!" she snapped before throwing another dagger at the lock in sheer frustration.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Ruby): 14 + 5 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 14; Lock AC 19; Roll Result: Failure)

Once more, the projectile missed and struck somewhere near the wagon itself. This time the sergeant had to dodge to one side as the dagger almost hit him instead.

Lotus took that as an opportunity and loosed a pair of arrows at the sergeant while he was distracted.

(Roll to Attack (Lotus): 14 + 4, 13 + 4 (+ 1 for Black Longbow for both) = 19, 18; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: Two Successes)

(Roll for Damage: 1d8 + 3; Roll Result: 3 + 3, 5 + 3 (+ 1 for Black Longbow) = 7, 9 for a combined 16 points of Damage)

The sergeant grunted then as both arrows struck him in the torso, slamming him up against the steel mesh of the cage itself. Lotus grinned at that before using the momentary distraction to hide herself, slinking off to the side of the fight.

The guards then moved to attack. Both of the wounded guards made to Disengage and back of towards their Sergeant while the third attempted to close with Ruby again. He thrust his spear at her in a pitiable attempt to impale her.

(Roll to Attack, Guard (3): 6 + 3 (+2 for Morale Bonus) = 11; Ruby AC 14; Roll Result Failure)

She dodged out of the way again and looked toward the Priest as he completed his spell, ignoring the guard cursing at her.

The last guard attempted to attack her then while she was distracted. He made to move forwards and winced as his wound bleed some more.

(Bleed damage roll; 1d4; Roll Result: 4 point of continual damage)

As he took a step forwards he paled and collapsed as he began to bleed out.

That was when the Priest completed his spell.

(Summon Spell (2nd Level); 50% chance; Roll Result: 90, Succeeds!)

With a flash of dark, purplish light the Priest suddenly smiled eerily as the energy he gathered together began to pulse strongly in his grasp before slamming his glowing hands down on the stone beneath him. The energy, and a strange black goo, ran along the ground away from him before consolidating into a dark circle that itself flashed brightly, briefly blinding them all.

As their eyes recovered everyone on both sides blanched at what they saw forming beside the Priest.

It grew from the pool of swirling energy and slime to rise up into a bipedal, almost humanoid form, but it was no man. It was a tall, black beast. Seemingly a wolf or wolf-like beast with blazing red eyes and an exposed skull over a mouth full of gnashing teeth.

A Grimm.

"The Goddess Salem Blesses us all!" The Priest exclaimed gleefully. "Do you not see?! It is a Sign of Her Favor! We must get the Silver Eyes!"

As he said that, red eyes of the Grimm turned to a purplish color. The same purplish color as the energy emanating from the Priest's hands.

His grin stiffened as his chest suddenly exploded in a spray of blood as the tip of a arrow burst forth. His corpse fell bonelessly to reveal the woman who was about to be sacrificed standing angrily behind him. The Trio noted that she had long Rabbit ears and long brown hair.

"Take that, you monsters! She shouted as she pointed at the Priest's corpse. Then she looked up in fear as the Grimm shook its head, clearing the last confines of the Priest controlling magic from its gaze, and Roared its fury.

(Frightening Presence, DC 15: Guard (Priest Guard) Natural 1 (Critical Failure), (?) 14 + 2 = 16, Jaune 14 + 1 = 15, and Guard (2) (Disadvantage) 6, 13; Roll Results: Jaune, (?) The woman shook off the Grimm's Roar and made to move away even as the guard next to her abruptly dropped his weapon and shield with a shriek and made to flee. Jaune shook of the unnatural creature's presence as well being just far enough away to evade it's effect, though the wounded guards next to him were so lucky, fearfully looking towards the creatures as they attempted stay in place.

"Coco!" The rabbit-eared Faunus female hollered. "Help!"

"Hold on, Velvet. We're comin'!" From the within confines of the cage a feminine voice shouted in reply.

(Reinforcements in 9 Rounds)

At seeing that the Creature was no longer under control the Sergeant turned and loosed an arrow at it while shouting at his men to aid him.

(Roll for Attack (Sergeant): 4 + 4 = 8, Grimm (Unknown) AC 15; Roll Result: Failure)

The arrow missed the Grimm and instead flew across the plaza. The sergeant gritted his teeth in fear at that but otherwise held his stance for what was to come.

Jaune didn't bother attacking the Grimm from where he was. He was to far away and he lacked a ranged weapon now. But he was about to remedy that.

He ran towards the fallen guard in front of him, the one with his Javelin sticking out of it. He grasped at the Javelin and went to tear it from the man's side.

(Strength Check, DC 5, Roll Result: 11 + 3 = 14; Success)

As he wrenched the throwable from the man's torso alongside a sickening sound and a splurt of dark red blood, and finished him off at the same time, he turned and launched it at the Grimm as hard as he could, knowing that the creature was the most dangerous thing here right now.

(Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 20 (Natural 20); Grimm (Unknown) AC 15; Roll Result: Critical Success)

(Roll for Damage (Critical Hit): 2d6+3; Roll Result: 5 + 3 + 3 = 11 points of Damage Reduced to 5 for Resistances)

With a slight swish sound the javelin flew the air to impale the Grimm with a satisfying thunk! The black beast growled at that but otherwise ignored Jaune's attack as it looked towards the guard cowering before it.

Jaune saw that and cursed before readying his shield for any counter attacks coming his way.

Ruby saw the Grimm and knew how deadly a creature it could be. She quickly notched and launched her own arrow at it as well, hoping to end the threat before it could do any harm, even to their enemies.

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 18 + 5 = 23, Grimm (Unknown) , AC 15; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 2d8 + 3; Roll Results: 7 + 8 + 3 = 18 points of damage)

As her arrow struck the Grimm in the shoulder it snarled with sudden pain and clutched at the wound as oily black smoke drifted away from it. It looked up at her and she saw its eyes briefly widened before it roared with rage.

She immediately threw her her third dagger at the creature then.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Ruby): 16 + 5 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 16; Grimm (Unknown) AC 15; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 2d4 + 3; Roll Results: 2 + 2 + 3 = 7 points of damage)

Once more the projectile she loosed its way penetrated its weird, unnaturally hard frame and sunk in deeply. The wolf-thing howled with pain but was still standing.

With nothing else to do, she ran over towards Jaune, skirting the edge of range of the guard threatening her, as she did so.

Velvet used Ruby's distraction to move even further away from the Grimm and attempted to make her way toward the cage at a Dash.

As she did so, Lotus snuck by everybody and made her way towards the lock holding the door of the cage closed and attempted to open it.

(Lockpicking Attempt (Lotus), DC 15; 8 + 6 = 14; Roll Result: Failure)

Unfortunately, her lockpicking skills weren't up to snuffed and she was unable to get in. She snarled at that and banged her fist against the cage before slumping as she sighed.

"Mind If I give it a go?" said a voice next to her. She looked up to find one of the occupants of the cage, a man with red hair, scars and blind eyes, looking at her with his hand held out.

She blinked at that and said, "Uh, sure," before handing over her lockpicks.

"Thank you," the unknown man replied with a smirk before attempting to open the lock from inside. Lotus turned and readied herself in case the sergeant noticed her.

(Perception Check (Sergeant), 10 + 2 = 12; (Lotus) Stealth Check, 14 + 6 = 20; Roll Result: Lotus wins)

(Lockpicking Attempt (?), DC 15; 2 + 3 = 5; Roll Result: Failure)

"Shit." Lotus looked to her left and she heard that and arched an eye-brow at the blind man. He looked at her and gave a pained smiled as he said, "Uh. I broke the lockpick. You got another?"

She shook her head, both in answer to his question, and in denial at what had just happened.

"Damn it, Fox," muttered the woman behind the man then.

As he saw the looming for of the Grimm before him the guard once more screamed in fear before turning to rush away, running straight away from the creature and perpendicular to the rest of his allies.

The Grimm made an attack at him as he attempted to flee.

(Reaction: Attack of Opportunity; Roll for Attack (Grimm): 6 + 5 = 11; Guard (Priest Guard) AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

The guard just barely escaped the Grimm's claws as they swiped at him. He kept on running.

Ruby needn't have worried about skirting the range of the guard that had been hounding her. Both he and his other injured compatriot back away from the beast looming over them all. As they did, Jaune took a chance to swing at them.

(Reaction: Attack of Opportunity; Roll for Attack (Jaune): 15 + 5 = 20; Guard (2) AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

As the two back again, he almost cleaved his wounded foe in two as he cut her down. She screamed in pain as she fell. Her comrade did nothing to help her as he continued to back away from the Grimm.

They backed away until they were next to their sergeant, holding tightly to their spear. He looked at them and shook his head in disgust.

Grimm didn't bother to let the guard, its prey, get away from it for long. It pounced at him and swung a claw to hit him

(Roll for Attack (Grimm), 11 + 5 = 16, Guard (Priest Guard) AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 2d6 + 3; 2 + 6 + 3 ( +2 for Raging) = 13 points of damage)

Its one swing tore the man into pieces, but the Grimm didn't seem to care as it made another attack at the corpse before tearing into with its teeth, crunching the bones underneath.

(Reinforcements in 8 Rounds)

The sergeant saw all this as well as the fear in his sole subordinate left and growled at it all. He swatted the man upside the head as he ordered him to wake up! Then he loosed an arrow at the Grimm as it continued to follow after the other guard.

(Roll for Attack (Sergeant): 18 + 4 = 22, Grimm (Unknown) AC 15; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 1d8 + 2; Roll Result: 8 + 2 = 10 points of damage reduced to 5 due to Resistance)

He growled as he saw the minimal damage his arrow did. He then lowered his head in disgust as slammed his fist against the cage in anger. At the sound of an "Eep!" next to him he looked up again in surprise and began looking around for the source of the noise.

(Perception Check (Sergeant), 18 + 2 = 20; (Lotus) Stealth Check, 16 + 6 = 24; Roll Result: Lotus wins)

But didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Then he shook his head, not caring about the prisoners right now, as he saw the enemy knight headed his way and grimaced at that. He dropped his bow and drew his own longsword in preparation for the coming fight, only to be blindsided yet again.

As Jaune charged in he swung his sword, not at the guards before him, but the lock.

(Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 10 + 5 = 15; Lock AC 19; Roll Result: Failure)

He growled to himself as he missed and smacked the side of the box instead. As he blade was bounced away he turned with it to then strike at the Sergeant once more with the pommel.

(Bonus Action: Pommel Strike; Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 11 + 5 = 16; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll For Damage: 1d4; Roll Result: 4 + 3 = 7 points of damage)

(Reflex Save, DC 13; Roll Result: 20 (Natural 20); Critical Success) (And he's back. Damnit.)

The sergeant wasn't expecting the sudden attack after Jaune struck at the cage and had his nose busted wide open from the pommel strike. His eyes crossed for a moment before he shook his head clearing the sudden fog that tried to take hold.

Jaune glared at the man, glancing over at his ally, and set himself in a defensive stance himself.

The woman, Velvet, continued to Dash across the plaza, The Square, as she made her way behind the Cage to where her and her allies' supplies and tools were left in a pile, alongside a bunch of other tossed aside personal effects from other, prior sacrifices. Once she got there she began scouring for their things.

(Perception Check, DC 20; 9 + 5 = 14; Roll Results: Failure)

"Shit!" She shouted in frustration. "Coco! I can't find our stuff!"

"Hold on, Bub-bun! We're coming'!" The woman left in cage barked back.

Ruby ignored the exchange as she loosed another arrow at the Grimm instead, wanting to bring it down as quickly as possible.

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 10 + 5 = 15, Grimm (Unknown) , AC 15; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 2d8 + 3; Roll Results: 1 + 6 + 3 = 10 points of damage)

The Grimm hissed at the arrow as it imbedded deeply in its side. Then it snarled with rage again as it realized who had hit it and stood up to attack her.

She flung her last dagger at it as it did.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Ruby): 19 + 5 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 19; Grimm (Unknown) AC 15; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 2d4 + 3; Roll Results: 2 + 3 + 3 = 8 points of damage)

The Grimm howled in pain as the dagger once more spun end over end to bury itself in its eye. It staggered backwards as it reeled in pain. In fact, it looked to almost dead now.

She smiled at that before hollering to Lotus, "Lotus! Hurry it up!"

The hidden woman nodded her way before drawing a pair of daggers and struck at the lock with one of them before then attacking the sergeant.

(Roll for Attack (Lotus): 15 + 4 = 19; Lock AC 19; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 1d4 + 2; Roll Result: 3 + 2 = 5 points of damage)

The lock broke as she bashed it with her dagger's pommel. But would she get a hit on the sergeant?

(Roll for Attack, off-hand (Lotus): 10 + 4 = 14; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

Nope. As soon as she tried the guard sergeant jerked to the right before turning to swing back at her.

(Reaction:Counterattack (Sergeant); 9 + 5 = 14; Lotus AC 13; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 1d10 + 3; Roll Result: 6 + 3 = 9 points of damage)

With a cry of alarm and pain, Lotus fell backwards as the sergeant sliced across her chest, shredding through the leather she was using as armor.

The last guard took that as his opportunity to attack her himself. He turned and shoved his spear at her as she leaned against the cart holding the cage.

(Roll for Attack, Guard (3): 1 (Natural 1); Roll Result: Critical Failure) (So, what's the name for the opposite of the MVP, cause this guy has failed everything he's attempted in this battle.) (I'm going to call him Larry. He's the problem child the Sergeant always has to deal with. Don't bother remembering him. He's about to die, anyway.)

As he thrust his spear at her she ducked to one side and the head of the polearm was impaled in the side of the cart. The guard gaped at that and made to pull the spear back out again.

(Strength Check, DC 15; 14 + 1 = 15; Roll Results: Success)

He gritted his teeth and gave an almighty tug. The spearhead was torn from the wood in a stray of splinters. He looked at that and grinned, only to turn at the sound of heavy footfalls to find the Grimm stalking towards them.

It stalked up towards them and made to swipe at Ruby as she stood in its way.

(Roll to Attack, Grimm: 14 + 5, 4 + 4 = 19, 8; Ruby AC 14; One Success, One Failure) (Oh, God, here we go!)

(Roll for Damage, 2d6 + 3; Roll Result: 1 + 3 + 3 (+ 2 for Raging)= 9 points of damage) (Oh, thank God! Seriously! She's level 1! She has 11hp, right now! Had!)

The youth woman shrieked in pain as one great paw's claws shredded the front of her armor. She has the wherewithal to duck under the second as it past by. It hooked onto her ragged, red cloak and tore through it.

"Ruby!" Jaune shouted in fear.

Right then, the door of the cage slammed opened and a trio of humans clambered out to attack the sergeant and his last guard as they were watching the fight before them.

(Roll to attack, (Coco): 2 + 7 = 9; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: Failure)

(Roll to attack, (Fox): 12 + 6 = 18; Guard (3) (Larry) AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 1d4 + 3; Roll Result: 3 + 3 = 6 points of damage)

(Roll for Attack, (?): 19 + 8 =17; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage: 8 points of damage)

Though, the woman failed to strike her target the two men with her did. The giant of a man delivered a devastatingly powerful punch to the Sergeant while the seemingly blind man did the same same to the other guard.

(Initiative Roll (Coco): 12 + 1 = 13; Roll Results: 13)

(Initiative Roll (Fox): 17+ 3 = 20; Roll Result: 20)

(Initiative Roll (Yatsu): 20 (Natural 20)+ 1 = 21; Roll Result: 21)

(New Initiative Order: (Sergeant) 21, (Yatsu) 21, (Fox) 20, (Jaune) 19, (Ruby) 18, (Velvet) 18, (Coco) 13, (Lotus) 12, (Guard 3) 6, and (Grimm) 5)

(Reinforcements in 7 rounds)

The Sergeant realized that he was now out-matched and so Disengaged from his opponents and turned to giant of a man turned to where Velvet was and ran over to her. The last guard made to stab at his as he did, not noticing yet that his superior had fled.

(Reaction: Attack of Opportunity; Roll to Attack Guard (3): 16 + 3 = 19; Yashu AC 17; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll to Attack (Two-handed) 1d8 + 1; Roll Result: 1 + 1 = 2 points of damage)

The spear just barely cut across the big man's back. He ignored the injury as he made his way to the pile of supplies and personal effects alongside his friend.

(Perception Check, DC 20; 10+ 3 = 13; Roll Results: Failure)

"Damn it," He faintly growled. "Where is it?!"

The red-haired man did the same, turning and running over towards his allies. He looked around, truly blind as he asked, "Yatsu, Velvet? Help me."

They turned to look at him then each other and nodded before closing their eyes and concentrated. Then they opened them and looked at the pile of rubbish.

(Perception Check, DC 20; (With Advantage) 2 + 1, 16 + 1 = 3, 17; Roll Results: Both Failures)

The red-haired monk sighed and shook his head as he said, "I don't know. I can't find anything."

"Coco!" He called. "We need you here! There's so much shit to look through!"

"On the way," The woman called as she eyed the last guard.

Jaune ignored them as he made his way over to Ruby-

(Reaction: Attack of Opportunity; Roll to Attack Grimm: 1 (Natural 1); Roll Result: Critical Failure)

-ducking under the Grimm paw as it casually swiped at him, more focused on the wounded, young woman before it. The massive, black mitt passed by, completely missing the Paladin entirely.

As he got to her side Jaune gingerly placed a hand to her chest and spoke a prayer to the Gods. A cool white light filled her then.

(Standard Action, Lay on Hands (Other): Ruby heals 5 points of damage)

She breathed a sigh of relief at that and nodded to him. Jaune gave her a smile in return before turning to place himself before her. The two of them looked as the Grimm growled at the two of them as it raised its arms to swipe at her again.

Ruby then took her bow and notched a final arrow. She brought up and drew the bowstring back to her cheek. Then she loosed the arrow.

(Roll to Attack (Disadvantage) (Melee Range) Ruby; 14, 15 + 5 = 19; Grimm AC 15: Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage, 2d8 + 3; Roll Results: 7 + 4 + 3 = 14 points of damage)

It smashed through the bone of the creature's exposed skull plate, burying into the brain beneath. The creature snapped its head back at the sudden explosion of pain raising its arms to its face before collapsing over to one side.

It promptly vanished into a cloud of smoke and ash. Leaving behind Jaune's javelin, Ruby's knives, and a bunch of arrows.

"Holy, she did it, guys!" The Faunus, Velvet, exclaimed as she looked over and saw that before returning to searching for their stuff.

(Perception Check, DC 20; 17 + 5 = 23; Roll Results: Success) (Finally! You guys were supposed to be the Calvary.)

"Oh, here it is!" She then called out as she pulled out her satchel of supplies as well as Fox's blades. "Coco!"

"I got you, girl!" The brown-haired girl replied as she juked around the guard and made her way over to her team of fellow adventurers. She looked at them all before saying, "Load up guys! We got to get out of here, fast!"

Lotus used the distraction to strike at the guard sergeant before he could fully escape. She had switched back to her bow for just such an opportunity. And, while he was distracted, this was the perfect opportunity.

She, like Ruby, notched an arrow to her bow and drew it back before loosing it. As before a second arrow magically appeared right as it flew away.

(Roll to Attack (Lotus): 10 + 4, 20 (Natural 20) (+ 1 for Black Longbow for both) = 15, 20; Sergeant AC 16; Roll Result: One Failure, One Critical Successes)

(Roll for Damage: 2d8 + 3; Roll Result: 4 + 7 + 3 (+ 1 for Black Longbow) = 15 points of Damage)

Though one arrow missed by mere inches, the second arrow struck the officer through the throat as he was running away. He fell over dead with a surprised grunt, tumbling along the ground from the force of the impact.

The last guard saw that and promptly panicked. He dropped his spear and shield and turned to flee.

(Guard (3) AC 14)

Lotus took that as an opportunity to toss a knife at the man as he tried to flee.

(Bonus Action: Roll to Attack (Lotus): 14 + 4 - 5 (Bonus Action Drawback) = 13; Guard (3); Roll Result: Failure)

Only to watch as the blade bounced off his armor what with him being too far away from it to impact properly. She watched him for a moment longer before shrugging and limping over to the others.

"Ey," she said as she dropped down next to them. "Ow youses two doin'?"

Jaune looked over at her and nodded at her before placing a hand on her shoulder to heal her, too, saying as he did so, "Good to see you survived as well. This is the last of my energy. I'll need to rest for a long while before I can do anything else."

Ruby nodded in understanding as she winced and sat down next to him wearily. Shakily, both from the fight and from bringing down the Grimm creature. "Well," she gasped out. "What do we do now?"

"Oi, you guys over there?"

They turned to find the woman, Coco, now wearing glasses of some type, waving at them before shouting, "You need to move. More guards, and probably those cultists, too, are on the way! We'll clear the way to the entrance for ya as thanks for freeing us, but the fight at the gate's going to be rough."

She frowned and muttered to the ground, "In fact, it might be hopeless even with us."

Lotus smiled at her then and said as she waved a hand in the air flippantly, "Ah, don' worry 'bout tha'. Th' Boss wa' pissed wit' 'em att'ckin' his place. So, he ordered th' gangs ta 'elp ou'."

Coco blinked at that before saying, "Oh-kay." Then she shook her head as she said, "Well then, let's go. Now!"

The trio nodded to her before getting back to their feet.

A thirty minutes later…

The guards around the Main Entrance of the Capital were worried. They hadn't heard much since the High Priestess had ordered a Purge after informants had informed her of a Demon in the city.

And now, their patrols in the area had vanished, leaving no traces as to what had happened to them. And the boroughs beyond were burning.

The eight guards and their sergeant were getting worried. True, they had a trio of Red Knights from the Queen's Retinue, the noble order of knights under the Church's doctrine, at their side as well as dozens of compatriots up in the towers on either side of the gate.

The group of seven looked at the forces at the gate, studying them, as they waited, and rested for a moment, once more patching their wounds. After a moment, the leader of the group of adventurers, Coco, nudged the Rabbit Faunus, Velvet, next to her and pointed at the guard formation before them.

A trio of the guards and their sergeant were near the left-most tower while another four and a knight was by the right-most tower. The rest were scattered around in front of the gate itself.

"Velvet," she whispered to her teammate. "We're going to use that tactic. Got it?"

Velvet looked at her then at the guards for a moment then back at her, and nodded. "Okay," she answered before reaching into her satchel and pulling out a red crystal to hand to her friend. "But, are you sure that your Aura can survive something like this?"

Coco smirked back at her as she said, "Don' know. Only one way to find out." Then she looked two Ruby and Lotus and said, "Hey, you two. Scooch over that way and be prepared to shoot some arrows at anyone who lives, kay?"

The two woman looked at her and nodded silently before taking off again. Jaune followed after them without asking.

Moments later…

(Dexterity Save, DC15/DC16; Roll Results: Guards: 2 +1 = 3, 3 + 1 = 4, 1 (Natural 1), 10 + 1 = 11, 3 +1 = 4, 14 + 1 = 15, 10 + 1 = 11, 14 + 1 = 15; Two Successes, Five Failures, and one Critical Failure)

(Dexterity Save, DC15; Roll Result: Elite Guard (Gate Sergeant): 19 + 2; Success)

(Dexterity Save, DC15/DC16; Roll Results: Red Knights: 18 + 1 = 19, 7 + 1 = 8, 14 + 1 = 15; Two Successes, One Failure)

(Roll for Damage, Fireball Spell (Empowered/Widen Meta-magic Feat) (5th level): 4 + 1 + 2 + 5 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 6 + 4 + 2 = 32 points of damage to Guards (1) and (2) and 64 points of damage to Guard (3) (Critical Failure); 17 points of damage to Sergeant and Red Knight (2), and Guards (4) and (5) for Saving)

(Roll for Damage, Fireball Spell (3rd level): 2 + 4 + 1 + 4 + 5 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 23 points of damage to Guards (6), (7) (8) and Red Knights (1); 11 points of damage to Red Knight (3) for Saving)

Unexpectedly, before any of them could do anything to truly react, two fireballs, one larger than the other, suddenly appeared and exploded in the company's midst. Instantly, all all the guards were wiped out, vaporized, as the fireballs exploded violently in their midst.

The one explosion was so massive it blew the left door of the gate off its hinges as well as heavily damaging the tower next to it. In fact…

With a crumbling, cracking sound the left guard tower's base broke entirely and fell in towards the courtyard in front of the gate itself, bringing all those within down with it. The guard sergeant and the one knight next the tower saw this and tried to evade falling debris.

(Dexterity Save, DC 15; Roll Result: Elite Guard (Gate Sergeant) 1 (Natural 1) and Red Knight (2) 5 + 1 = 6; One Failure, One Critical Failure)

(Roll for Damage, 20d8: 2 + 2 + 3 + 6 + 1 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 6 + 3 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 83 points of damage (bludgeoning)

Both tried to flee but the guard tripped over his own feet in his panic and fell to the ground, tripping the knight as he did so. They died as they were crushed under the weight of the rubble. The other two knights looked on in horror at that before going to draw their weapons.

Too late!

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose) (Surprise Attack): 13 + 5 = 18; Red Knight (1) AC 18; Roll Result: Success)

(Roll for Damage (Surprise Attack): 2d8+3; Roll Result: 1 + 7 + 3 = 11 points of Damage)

(Roll to Attack (Lotus) (Sneak Attack) : 5 + 4, 20 (Natural 20) (+ 1 for Black Longbow) = 10, 20; Red Knight (3) AC 18, Roll Results: One Critical Success, One Failure)

(Roll for Damage (Sneak Attack) 2d8 + 3, plus 2d6 Sneak Attack: 5 + 4 + 2 (+ 1 for Black Long Bow) = 12 plus 3 + 4 =7 (Sneak Attack Damage) for a combined damage of 19)

Both knights took even more damage as they were struck by arrows before they could find the threat.

Coco then shouted, "Go! Now!" And led the charge as she and her team charge the knights before them while Jaune, Ruby and Lotus ran towards the broken gate.

(Initiative Roll (Coco): 12 + 1 = 13; Roll Results: 13)

(Initiative Roll (Fox): 7+ 3 = 10; Roll Result: 10)

(Initiative Roll (Velvet): 3 + 3 = 6; Roll Result: 6)

(Initiative Roll (Yatsu): 8 + 1 = 8; Roll Result: 8)

(Initiative Roll (Jaune Arc): 18 + 0 = 18; Roll Result: 18) (Completely against canon, Jaune is usually first in a fight. Huh.)

(Initiative Roll (Ruby Rose): 6 + 3 = 9; Roll Result: 9)

(Initiative Roll (Lotus): 10 + 2 = 12; Roll Result: 12)

(Initiative Roll (Red Knight(1): 9 + 1 = 10; Roll Result: 10)

(Initiative Roll (Red Knight (3): 1 + 1 = 2; Roll Result: 2)

(Initiative Order: (Jaune) 18, (Coco) 13, (Lotus) 12, (Fox) 10, (Red Knight (1) 10, (Ruby Rose) 9, (Yatsu) 8, (Velvet) 6, and (Red Knight(3) 2)

As they charged in, Jaune paused to once more throw his recovered javelin at the more injured of the knights.

(Roll to Attack (Jaune Arc): 3 + 5 = 8; Red Knight (1) AC 18; Roll Result: Failure)

When it missed he did bother to get angry and instead continued on behind the others just like they had planned.

Coco, meanwhile, took out the other crystal Velvet had given her, a light blue crystal, and used it to summon up a few bolts of magic. She sent them all against the weaker of the two knights as well.

(Roll for Damage,: (Magic Missile, 2nd level) (four bolts)1d4 + 1; Roll Result: 2 + 1, 3 + 1, 2 + 1, 2 + 1 = 3, 4, 3, 3 for a combined total of 13 points of damage)

The knight grunted as he was pummeled by the magical energy but remained standing. He swayed a bit, heavily injured.

Lotus tried to take advantage of that and shot a pair of arrows at him.

(Roll to Attack (Lotus): 10 + 4, 7 + 4 (+ 1 for Black Longbow for both) = 15, 12; Red Knight (1) AC 18; Roll Result: Two Failure)

Only to watch as both missed. But, like Jaune, she kept moving afterwards. Not stopping to engage further, if possible.

The blind monk, Fox, flung a dart then another as he ran in behind his leader, aiming for the second knight.

(Roll to Attack (Fox): 18 + 6, 19 + 6 = 24, 25; Red Knight (3) AC 18; Roll Result: Two Successes)

(Roll for Damage, 1d4 + 3: 4 + 3, 1 + 3 = 7 + 4 for a combined total of 11 points of damage)

The knight grunted and gritted his teeth as both darts, small, tufted steel rods, struck him and pierced his flesh through gapes in his armor.

Then it was the knights' turn. The first knight, the weaker one, realized how outnumbered and outmatched they were but refused to give in to fear. He held aloft his sword and bellowed a warcry at his enemies in defiance.

(Bonus Action, Warcry: All allies within 30ft gain +2 (Knight's Charisma modifier) to Attack and Damage and are now resistant to Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage)

A burst of purplish black energy erupted from him and coated his fellow knight before he then charged at Coco, seeing her as the most dangerous opponent so far.

Ruby continued to run toward the open gate for a moment before turning to loose an arrack herself at the knight as he charged towards her new allies.

(Roll to Attack (Ruby Rose): 5 + 5 = 10; Red Knight (1) AC 18; Roll Result: Failure)

The projectile once more failed to make contact with its target. The man proving too hard to hit at the moment.

Yatsuhachi lumbered up behind everyone, a massive scimitar-like blade in hand. As he saw the knight charging at his friend, the large monk shot a dart at him as well.

(Roll to Attack (Yatsu): 2 + 8 = 10; Red Knight (1) AC 18; Roll Result: Failure)

He groaned to himself as he watched the dart go wide and shook his head as he continued, thinking that once more he'd be the at one one to do anything today.

Velvet didn't bother trying to throw a physical weapon. Instead, just like her leader, she used a crystal to summon magic bolts of her own to strike the creatures and shot them at the knights.

(Roll for Damage,: (Magic Missile, 3rd level) (five bolts)1d4 + 1; Roll Result: 4 + 1, 3 + 1, 3 + 1, 1 + 1, 1 + 1 = 5, 4, 4, 2, 2 for a combined total of 17 points of damage separated between the knights)

As one bolt of energy struck the heavily injury knight while he was charging, he collapsed onto the ground, dead. The other, though empowered by his friend, could not hold up to the payload of energy bolts exploding across her form and fell backward on her back, equally dead.

(Dexterity Save, DC 15; Roll Result: Jaune Arc 19 + 1 = 20; Success)

Jaune and his allies paused at that, seeing their enemies dead before jumping back as more rubble fell down where he had been standing, blocking him, Ruby and Lotus from the rest. Then they all looked back up toward the streets beyond as a trumpet sounded and blanched as they saw a veritable army of cultists and guard headed down towards the gate.

Coco turned to him and shouted, "Go! Now! While you can!" before turning to summon another fireball spell alongside Velvet and launched it at the buildings around the street. Hoping to block the street.

Jaune nodded before grasping Ruby by the arm and tugged her along behind him. Neither noticed as Lotus lagged behind as they disappeared through the broken hole of the gate..

/ /

Hours later…

She watched from the shadows as she saw the last of Coco's little group get away from their pursuers, the knights too slow to catch up to the Faunus's horse while on foot, and sighed in relief. She didn't like the race of animals, but she wouldn't say that she exactly hated them either, especially not that one.

She had helped her with her mission.

At the steady tapping of a cane behind her she smiled. She waited for it to stop before turning to look over her shoulder, finding her Boss, Roman, standing there smiling at her.

"Hey, Boss," she said quietly. Happily. Ignoring the look Neo gave her while doing so.

"So, I'm assuming you got the job done then?" He asked with a toothy grin of his own.

"But, of course, Boss. That's why you tagged me for it, right?" She replied and brushed at her still wet, but no-longer-brown, spiky green hair. "Though," she continued ruefully as she pointed a thumb back toward where the dust cloud could still be seen. "I did have help. In that regard."

"No matter," Roman said with a shrug as he watched the knights and guards beyond the city walls as they stood at the sewer entrance. "As long as the job gets done."

He turned and looked at her and said, "Return to you party, Reese. I might have need of your Adventuring Party, and I'm sure that they'll be missing you if you're gone for much longer."

"Right, Boss," The short woman answered before turning to disappear into the shadows beyond with a smile. She paused and asked over her shoulder, "Hey, Boss. We ever going to see those two again?"

He continued to watch the figures in the distance for a moment in silence before thumping his cane on the broken stone ground as he said without looking at her. Neo smiled wickedly beside him. "But, of course! I know a good investment when I see one. And I got ideas for those two. Heheh."

"Oh. Good." Reese answered before continuing on. "I actually liked working with them. It was fun playing the hero for once."

And, with that, the woman previously known as Lotus vanished.
