A bustling Cairo city, though hot, provided an abundance of scenery and luxury.
Dio held his parasol with ease. Jojo remained by his side, head to toe in makeup. Pucci stood on the other side as they all looked beyond the front door and down the street.
"Ready?" Pucci looked up to Dio's face. Though covered by sun glasses with face full of sun cream, he nodded in return. Then turned to Jojo.
Jojo shivered but tried to hide it as the temptation to hold onto Dio grew. Dio tilted his sunglasses as he and Pucci looked to inspect Jojo further.
"Oh, I'm ok. I just don't know if this actually a good idea and-"
"Well, we are here now and besides there aren't many people here." Dio nonchalantly unfurled Jojo's fisted hand and held it tight. Not batting an eye at his actions.
They headed down the street.
The outer areas of Cairo were peaceful, barely any traffic and sand everywhere.
"You want to go into the city, yes?" Pucci held the small map in the sun.
"Some shopping could do us good. Which way?"
Dio and Pucci stopped to discuss the map as Jojo kept holding his hand. the faint murmurings of passers-by and their choice in clothing fascinated him.
How they didn't have to hide from the sun. How they didn't have a life like his and yet they were mostly content with it. From what Jojo could see. They'd glare at him from time to time when the chance rose.
"-Then lead the way my friend." Dio gestured for Pucci to take the lead. He of course took it without hesitation as Jojo followed behind them.
The odd glare and stare started to shake Jojo a little. How they glared at him and not Dio? Not at Pucci? Why was he the stand out?
"You can't expect us to walk all the way. Right?" Pucci turned after they'd reached the end of the street.
"You are right, even my legs would get tired. What kind of transport would you have in mind? "
"We could get a taxi though I don't think they come out this far."
Jojo continued to notice the stares and whispers around them, around him. Has his makeup come off already? Where his clothes too tacky even for his 'modern day'? He remembered Dio was insistent that he wore it despite not wearing that much himself. He said it would protect him from the sun but Jojo realised otherwise.
"I don't think possession is a good idea. I say we either walk there, find another mode of transport or go home."
"But it's convenient."
"It's unethical, I believe the future ruler of our new world should at least have some ideas about ethics."
Pucci and Dio's words drowned as Jojo's worries and thoughts grew. The reason why Dio had been so adamant that he wore the make up was not to protect from the sun. He could go in the sun just fine without it hurting. Instead, the makeup was for... something else. Jojo didn't want to admit it.
"Jojo. You've been strangely quiet. Do you have any idea about this?"
Snapped back to reality.
"Oh, sorry I wasn't listing." Jojo turned and gave his concerned smile to Pucci.
"Great now how are we going to get there? Since morals and ethics now stand in our way? And does anyone care to try and find another solution?" Dio shrugged with angered sarcasm. "I thought we'd be more prepared for this!"
The three of them stood of the pavement. Looking around for a way into a lazy yet efficient solution.
Jojo looked around too. The people passing had grew in numbers but it still wasn't so busy. In the corner of his eye, he saw a rather out of place figure walking by. He had a larger stature than most of the other passers-by and wore a black hat. Or was it part of his hair? Jojo squinted to see.
But a blink later and the man with his crew had walked on by. Jojo stared intently down the rest of the street the man had gone down, hoping to find him in the small crowd. But he'd turned the corner.
Gone.
"I know you." A small whisper crept out of Jojo's mouth. A funny feeling of connecting and loss at the same time.
"Let's just go home. The suns rather tiering. Pucci you were right we should've come here at night." Dio yawned indiscreetly, directing his eyes at Pucci.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, I should've been more prepared." A discreet glare back at Dio. "Why don't you lead the way?"
"I shall gladly." Dio tugged Jonathan along behind him.
A sudden jerk. Jojo fell. Face first in the dusty road.
"Jojo?"
He looked up through the tears being held back in his stained eyes. The dirt rubbing against his skin as he picked himself up. Was it more anger or shame?
He pulled his hand away from Dio's. Dio tried to help brush the dirt off. A scream echoed from the end of the street.
In full view was Jonathan. No makeup. Just plain revealing sun illuminating his patchy skin and ill coloured face.
"Oh shut up you wench!" Dio yelled as fire grew in his eyes.
She did indeed shut up. She had fainted. And now men gathered guns.
Dio had no choice. The World had come. And took them away through stopped time, only to leave Jojo behind. He ran.
