Angel Investigations. - Hyperion Hotel

Kellie woke up the next day to find herself in an old hotel room. Blinds closed. She assessed her surroundings as she registered how sore she was. She realized her shirt, shoes, and jacket were gone and her head had been bandaged up. She was covered in bruises and sore.

Kellie startled as the door opened. She grabbed the glass of water by the bed and threw it towards the door as Angel peaked his head in. The glass whizzed by Angel's head.

"It's better than the bullets last night," Angel said, coming in the room. The girl covered her exposed skin and bra with a blanket..

"Oh god, Ethan, finally managed to…" Kellie said, scrambling out of the bed and grabbing the blanket to stay covered.

"I don't know any Ethan," Angel said, "We won't let anyone looking for you in unless you say so. No one's going to hurt you here."

"Last thing I remember was you standing over me after I made sure that particular goon squad wouldn't be coming after me again,"Kellie said, "And a whole bunch of crazy dreams or hallucinations about vampires. I guess that part is beside the point. Why would I trust you, again?"

"My first choice would have been to take you to the hospital," Angel said, "But you were pretty clear you didn't want that."

"So you brought me where exactly?" Kellie asked, moving towards the blinds and trying to open them. Angel moved quickly out of the sunlight that came through. Kellie gave him a strange look.

"My home..I mean office," Angel replied, "That didn't sound right. This used to be a hotel. We run Angel investigations out of it and live here. Anyway, we were able to patch up the cut on your head without stitches. But it'll probably be a few days before you can do whatever's normal is for you."

"I can't stay. He'll just track me down here," Kellie said, "You don't want me hanging around when he decides to make a move."

"Who's this guy that's after you?" Angel asked, "Maybe my team and I can help you."

"Team?" Kellie asked, "The guy's got more money and power than anyone that evil should have a right to have. I highly doubt your people whoever they are have that kind of power."

"You'd be surprised," Angel said.

"He should be in jail for a lot of things," Kellie said, "And he's not. That's the kind of power he has."

"What did he do to you?" Angel asked.

"Nothing I want to talk about," Kellie said.

"Is there anyone we can call for you?" Angel asked, having a feeling he already knew the answer.

"There's no one," Kellie said.

"Angel," a female voice said from the hallway, "Is our guest awake? Does she want breakfast?"

"I don't know," Angel said, leaving and closing the door behind him, "And be careful there's broken glass on the floor."

"What did you do?" Cordelia asked.

"She threw a glass at me," Angel said.

"I think I like her already," Cordelia said, "Did you even knock?"

"No," Angel replied, "Which thinking about it probably would have been the smart thing to do."

Cordelia rolled her eyes, "Did she tell you her name, why was out by herself?"

"She was pretty vague," Angel said, "Not big on sharing information. But I get the feeling that whoever this guy is that's chasing her, he hurt her pretty bad."

"Maybe she''ll be more comfortable and not try to throw things at a female," Cordelia said, going to open the door.

"Cordy, there's one other thing," Angel said, "She thinks she hallucinated or dreamed up the vampire portion of the evening. I didn't correct her. Until we know more I'm not sure if we should yet."

"If her problem is of the human variety," Cordelia said, "Maybe that makes sense. I'll talk to her and see if I can feel out how receptive she might be to that truth."

Cordelia entered the room and saw Kellie attempting to look for her clothes. Her injuries slowed her way down. Kellie sensing someone else in the room, went to grab the lamp, and ended up grabbing the night stand to support herself.

"You are in no shape to be moving around," Cordelia said, "I still don't understand why Angel didn't just take you to the hospital. Now, we can do this the hard way or the easy way. I'd prefer the easy way where you just put yourself back in bed."

"I'm guessing you people might mean well," Kellie said, "But I'm only putting you in danger by sticking around."

"I don't know what creepy crawly thing is after you," Cordelia said, "You don't get to skulk out of here and get yourself killed after Angel just saved your life. You'll just make him feel undeservedly guilty if that happens. Then he'll get all broody. Well, broodier. I'm not letting you do that to him."

Cordelia stood in front of Kellie daring her to try anything, "We both know I could take you right now. Before you got beat up, probably not. But seriously…"

"Fine," Kellie collapsing on the bed, "Can you get me shirt or something please?"

"Of course," Cordelia said, "Do I have to do everything around here?"

Cordelia opened the door to find Wesley standing there with a breakfast tray.

"I'll take that," Cordelia said, "So our guest doesn't throw something at you or attempt to hurt you."

"Why would she do that?" Wesley asked, "She's injured and we're trying to help her."

"And itching for a fight, to leave, and hates anything with testosterone," Cordelia said, grabbing the tray.

"Right then," Wesley said, "I'll leave you to it."

"Can you grab our guest a change of clothes from my room or something," Cordelia said, "A shirt and yoga pants. Why'd you let her sleep in those filthy jeans?"

"Her shirt was pretty much unsalvagable. We didn't exactly have other clothes for her at the time nor did we…never mind," Wesley said, taking off.

"And bring back a broom and dust pan too?" Cordelia yelled after him. She shut the door and turned her attention back to Kellie.

"Wesley, will get you some clothes from my room," Cordelia said, putting the tray on the bed, "Breakfast if you want it. Aspirin is on the nightstand."

Kellie hesitated looking at the breakfast and eventually let her hunger win out. She let go of the night stand to sit back on the bed.

Kellie opted for the aspirin first and then cautiously ate at the breakfast.

"We're not poisoning you," Cordelia said, sitting on the bed, "My name's Cordelia and you are?"

Kellie didn't answer.

"We tried looking for some sort of identification last night," Cordelia said, "But we found several, we're not sure what one's the real one."

"That would be the point," Kellie said.

"Hey," Cordelia said abruptly, "We're trying to help you here. It's what we do, help the helpless. Right now you need some help."

"It's nothing personal," Kellie said, "The less you know about me. The better for you if.."

"If what?," Cordelia asked, "The boogeymen chasing you last night come after you again. Believe me when I tell you they have no idea what they're in for. So what happened last night exactly?"

"Nothing I would discuss without an attorney present," Kellie replied.

"We don't exactly run on the right side of the law, I guess you could say…We do the right things…it's kind of confusing, anyway" Cordelia said, "Angel told me there were a lot of guys with guns after you. He also told me you managed to take them out. If there's that many guys after you, isn't there some one you want to call? If not the police, maybe a family member or something."

"Like I told your friend, there's no one," Kellie said, "Police can never do anything. Not where he's concerned. And I don't…I don't have family."

"You have to have someone," Cordelia said as there was a knock at the door.

"Well, mommy overdosed when I was a kid," Kellie said as Cordelia went to get the door, "I can't say the foster system ever gave me warm fuzzies. So…"

Cordelia opened the door and grabbed the clothes and broom from Wesley before shutting it again.

"And your father?" Cordelia asked, coming toward Kellie and setting the clothes on bed

Kellie just shook her head.

"No other family?" Cordelia said.

Kellie ignored the question and ate her breakfast.

"Fine, keep your secrets for now," Cordelia said, "Feel free to come down stairs to the lobby when you feel like it or if you need anything.
