Ben was in the guild hall, talking to Roubaul about his first S-Class job.
"Your job is to subdue a monster residing on the outskirts of Mt. Jaya's summit. It's an ice monster, a Yeti. It has ice power, so your fire and heat power will be very effective." Roubaul explained what his job is.
"But the environment is disadvantageous to me." Ben pointed out a issue with the location.
"Yeah, it is the best environment for Ice Mages. Some Ice Mages have taken the job, but none of them succeeded because the monster is immune to ice and cold." Roubaul informed him.
"So only fire and heat are able to affect it." Ben realized.
"Yeah, they're the opposite, after all. Other elements might work, but they won't be as effective as fire and heat." Roubaul said.
"I guess you're right. This is will a challenge for me. That place must be colder than winter, so my power will be restricted." He stated.
Ben thought about the job and it's environment. A cold, snowy place will affect his magic, but he didn't know to what extent. So this will be a good test and challenge for him.
"What's the reason for this job? Why should I kill this monster?" He asked.
"It has hunted a lot of creatures on the mountain. The creatures there were scarce before this. Now there even scarcer. The kingdom is worried that it start to hunt humans in the nearby village. Also, the creatures on the mountain are the food source for nearby villages." Roubaul explained.
"So it's a battle for survival like usual." Ben said.
"It is." Roubaul confirmed it.
Ben and Bella then prepare everything they need for this job. Wendy and Carla helped them while telling them to be safe. A S-Class job is a lot different than a normal job, so they know it will be very dangerous.
After finishing their preparation, Ben and Bella bid farewell to everyone in the village. Then they left in the car.
On their way to Mt. Jaya, Ben told Bella to stay out of the fight. It would be bad if the monster targeted Bella because of her attacks. She needs to stay away from the battle and run immediately if something happened.
Bella nodded and understood his concern. She knew she wouldn't be able to help and would just be a burden if she got involved. So she will stay out of the battle, just like Ben instructed.
Ben and Bella have a casual conversation on the way to Mt. Jaya. It took them 5 hours to reach Mt. Jaya because it was far away and the track was difficult. They still need an hour to reach the summit by car.
"Ben, snow!" Bella exclaimed in excitement.
"Yeah, you can play in it after we finish the job, so be patient." Ben told her.
"Okay." Bella replied.
Ben found flat ground, so he parked the car there. Ben and Bella wore thick fur clothing to protect them from the cold. Their clothes were magic items that Roubaul made using fur from a monster Ben killed in the past. It has a heating system to keep them warm.
Then Ben walked with Bella sitting on his head like usual. Ben used his magic sense to find the monster. He searched for a half hour before hearing a loud roar.
Ben became alert because he sensed the monster running towards them. It seems the monster found them before they could find it. It's sense must be very strong to find them easily.
He told Bella to get away and hide before the monster arrives. Bella nodded and flew away to hide behind a tree. Ben got ready to fight the monster that was most likely their target.
A silhouette suddenly appeared from the higher ground and it jumped towards Ben's position. The silhouette landed several meters in front of Ben. Now Ben can clearly see the figure of the silhouette.
It's a tall and big humanoid monster with white fur all over it's body. Only it's face, chest and palms weren't covered in fur. The skin that wasn't covered by fur looked very thick and tough.
"ROAR!" The monster roared at Ben and showed it's fangs.
"Just like the description of my target. You must be the Yeti." Ben said.
"GRRR." The monster just growled. It didn't seem like it was able to talk.
"Well, whatever. My job is to kill you, so prepare yourself." Ben said before a red magic circle appeared above his head.
"Fire Mode!" Ben yelled as his body was covered in fire.
Ben raised the temperature of his fire, but it was harder than when he used it in a normal environment. He can only reach 2000 degrees Celsius here using the same magic power for 2500 degrees Celsius in a normal environment.
The snow around Ben started to melt and it alerted the Yeti. Then the Yeti released a cold aura that slowed the melting down. But it didn't affect the temperature of the fire on Ben's body.
The Yeti roared again and rushed at Ben. It jumped at Ben with a fist covered in blue-colored magic. The Yeti threw a punch at Ben, so he grinned and also threw a flaming punch.
Their punches clash and create a boom. The clash blew the snow around them off the mountain and the hot and cold clash created a small turbulence in the air. They were in a brief stalemate before both of them were pushed a few meters back.
"You have a nice punch there." Ben said excitedly.
It was unusual for Ben to fight an opponent that had a punch that rivaled his. The Etherious he fought during the S-Class exam was too fast for him. So he couldn't face it's punches with his punches and it wasn't very interesting.
Ben rushed at the Yeti again and threw multiple punches. The Yeti also threw multiple punches to meet Ben's. Their clashes created several tremors that broke the snowy ground slowly.
They kept clashing and didn't realize that the tremors from their clashes have shaken the snow around them. Then suddenly, a rumbling sound was heard.
Ben and the Yeti stop and look up at the sound's source. They see a white cloud quickly moving towards them. The tremors triggered an avalanche.
Their eyes widened and the Yeti immediately ran away. Ben also ran over to Bella's hiding spot and took her to their car. He used his Light Mode to increase his running speed and reached the car slowly.
They got in the car and Ben quickly drove down the mountain. Ben drove very fast and even overtakes the Yeti who ran away from first. The Yeti saw Ben's car move very fast, so it leaped at Ben's car and hitched a ride.
"OI BASTARD! GET OFF! HOW COULD YOU HITCH A RIDE WITHOUT ASKING!" Ben yelled at the Yeti.
"ROAR!" The Yeti angrily roared back.
"WHAT THE HECK?! WHY ARE YOU GETTING ANGRY AT ME WHEN YOU'RE THE ONE AT FAULT HERE!" Ben yelled back.
"BEN, AVALANCHE!" Bella shouted, reminding him of the avalanche.
Ben realized that their situation wasn't looking good. It wasn't the best time to worry about the Yeti. So Ben drove faster to escape the avalanche that almost reached them.
They reach the non-snowy area, but Ben continued driving because the avalanche had become too big and was still chasing them. They were finally saved when they reached the foot of the mountain. The avalanche wasn't able to reach it.
The three sigh in relief, but then they remember the battle. Ben yelled at the Yeti to get down, so it leaped off and jumped away. Ben told Bella to stay in the car while he fought the Yeti.
"Round 2!" Ben said after cracking his fingers.
