This mysterious phantom is acting in a peculiar manner. Once he made his appearance at the festival, he only stuck around for a little while and disappeared. After leaving, he left some sort of message on the stage saying that there's something going on tonight. The gang were trying to figure out what was happening, but they still don't have any leads as to who this phantom is or what he even wants.
"Our stage!" Blue Thunder called as the band came by and saw what became of it. "No one better have touched my axe!"
"Calm down, Blue." White Flash said as he had a look around. "It looks like our gear hasn't been touched." As for Dragon Fire, he walked right over to Lucy while she was examining the message.
"I thought we were going to be the main attraction, not the opening act." Dragon Fire said.
"I'm sure you still are. For all we know, the phantom is going to make his big play before you guys can perform." Lucy said. "Maybe he's just jealous you guys are going to be in the spotlight."
"As he should." Dragon Fire said. "So, what are you looking for? You've been looking at this for a while. The message seems simple and obvious, but I'm not a big mystery solver."
"It's not the message itself, but rather how it was delivered." Lucy said. "Why put it out for the whole world to see? People are already posting and blogging about this and they all want to know what he's talking about. It's almost like he wants everyone to see what's going to happen tonight. What could it be? What is he hoping to gain by doing something like that?"
"I just hope it's nothing dangerous for all those innocent people." Dragon Fire. "My friends and I might be rockers, but we don't trash anything."
"Really? That's an interesting twist." Lucy said. "Don't you big time rockers love to trash hotel rooms or something?"
"We're more civil than that." Dragon Fire claimed with Lucy getting a bit of a chuckle.
"It's weird. I like talking to you, but I don't know your real name." Lucy said. "No disrespect, but I don't think Dragon Fire is a name to be used in casual conversation."
"That's just because my band hasn't become that famous yet. My real name is James." Dragon Fire claimed. The two of them appeared to be having a nice conversation, but Natsu saw that and it really annoyed him. As for Erza and Gray, they were rather suspicious about the band themselves.
"Hey, Lucy! Let's go! We got a mystery to solve!" Gray called. Lucy excused herself and hurried on over to them.
"Sorry about that." Lucy said.
"Sorry for talking to a wannabe?" Natsu mumbled with Lucy confused on the attitude.
"Uh... Anyway... I still can't figure this phantom out. No telling what his next move might be." Lucy said. "I don't even know about this." She said as she pulled out the piece of paper she found. "Luckily, the cops thought it was just mere litter or else I would have been in trouble. You think they would take us more serious when it comes to clues. I still have no idea what this could be or what it even means."
"We might not know who this phantom is, but we do have suspects." Gray said as he looked towards Blight as they were trying to get themselves ready for their upcoming concert.
"You guys can't think Blight has anything to do with this." Lucy said.
"Well, they are a strange bunch, Lucy." Erza said. "Don't forget that Dragon Fire did take off on his own last night when they still had work to do."
"I'm not convinced, but I will keep an open mind. There are four of them, so any of them could be the phantom and the rest might not even know." Lucy said. "If Blight does have any connection to the phantom, I still stay their manager has a part in it. It does seem more like me theory about him using this phantom as publicity is panning out."
"Fair enough. I say we keep an eye on that band. We've got until tonight to find more about this phantom, so let's see what they can find." Gray said with all of them thinking the same thing.
...
The Gang
Thinking the band has something to do with this phantom, the gang is keeping an eye on them. They followed them around and kept themselves hidden. What they saw was...less than they expected for a band.
"This is boring. We're doing what many big fans would love to do and I don't see why they would." Natsu said. "For a rock band, they're acting pretty mellow and...normal."
"They're only local. It's not like they're that big." Lucy said. "They're just starting their music careers, not to mention they're probably keeping themselves ready and focused for their big concert tonight. That's assuming they even will get their concert if that phantom doesn't ruin it."
"What's wrong? Worried about James." Natsu teased. "That's right. I overheard you two talking and he easily gave you his real name."
"Hold on a second. Are you jealous?" Lucy teased with a playful smirk on her face, but Natsu just looked away. "Aw, you're cute when you're angry."
"I should be. The guy is clearly interested in you." Natsu said.
"Yeah, but nothing is happening between us. I'm just teasing. As flattered as I am that a rocker likes me, I'm with you and I like you. He and I were just having nice conversations." Lucy said.
"Both of you just shut up and stay focus." Gray said as he was getting annoyed with them.
"Focus on what? They haven't really done anything." Natsu said.
"Maybe we were wrong. Maybe the band is completely innocent in all of this." Erza said as it was starting to look like that was the case. As for the band, they were just hanging out and minding their own business.
"Hey, check out this solo I've been working on." Wind Tiger said. He took his drumsticks and started banging around on whatever he could with them until one of the drumsticks flew right out of his hand. It landed right into the bushes where the gang was hiding.
"Ouch!" Erza said as the stick hit her head.
"Ouch?" Dragon Fire said as he heard that and went to check it out. He pushed back the bushes and saw all of them hiding there. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Uh... Would you believe we're leaf collecting?" Natsu said.
"It looks more like you guys are meddling in our business." Blue Thunder said.
"That's sort of what we do." Lucy said as they all stood up.
"I thought you guys were trying to solve the mystery of this phantom? Why are you following us?" White Flash said.
"Isn't it obvious? These guys think we have something to do with it." Blue Thunder accused.
"Is that true? Do you guys think we're the phantom or something?" Dragon Fire said. The looks on their faces said it all. "We're not the phantom? All of us have been together the whole time. Not to mention we have our big concert coming up tonight. We're focused on that."
"Well, you guys sure didn't look like you were busy when we saw you earlier." Erza said.
"Not to mention that you guys haven't been together like you said." Gray claimed. "We saw you the other night, Dragon Fire. You said you had work you need to get done, but you went off on your own. You searched around for black clothes. Black would be the perfect color for a phantom."
"Oh, that... In way, it was for what we do." Dragon Fire claimed. "My mom has connections with fashion. Black is practically our signature color. I was looking for clothes she could use for inspiration or ideas for future wardrobe."
"We don't know if you guys are aware of this, but we were inspired to form this band by the hit rock band known as Kiss." White Flash claimed.
"Our looks and designed were inspire them. All four of us were such big fans of their music." Wind Tiger claimed. "What we do is sort of like a tribute to them."
"Plus, we're still kind of fresh to all of this. We make great music, but we're still working on our first album." Blue Thunder said. "We're still a little inexperienced and just now gaining some rep. You think we're going to risk all of that?" That might explain what they saw, and the gang doesn't really have any real proof or evidence that points to the band being guilty.
"Sorry, Dragon Fire. For what it's worth, I did thought you were innocent." Lucy said. "Your manager is a different matter. It seems like he'll do anything to make sure your show is a big hit and make a lot of money out of it."
"Thornston? Maybe he does get a little crazy over his work, but I'm not sure if he's capable of this." Dragon Fire said.
"Well, I actually haven't seen him all day." White Flash claimed. "He wasn't anywhere to be found even with that message covering the stage."
"Come to think of it, he wasn't around that much yesterday either. I just thought he was making business deals or something." Wind Tiger said.
"You guys might not be directly involved, but it's looking more like your manager might." Gray said.
"This mystery has no clear leads. Whoever is behind all of this seems to be good. It looks like our only chance to solve this mystery is to set a trap for that phantom." Erza said.
"And we know where he's going to appear." Gray said. Seeing as how they can't figure out who this phantom is, they've got to try and catch him. It's a little risky, but they've got to try and do something about that phantom.
...
Later
As the phantom's grand plan wasn't going to happen until later tonight, it gave the gang plenty of time to set a trap for him at the festival. They just need to wait for him to show. As for the festival itself, it still went on with added security. They all kept their eyes pealed, but there was quite a crowd.
"Hey, kids." Jude said as he and Wilbert came over.
"Everything has been good so far. How are things with you guys?" Wilbert asked.
"Everything is set." Gray said.
"Good. With the added security and your trap, I'm sure this phantom won't be able to escape." Wilbert said.
"Let's hope so. We can't have anything happen to the people." Jude said. "Lucy, I sure hope you and your friends know what you're doing."
"I hope so too, but the only we can do now is wait for this phantom to show." Lucy said.
"Let's keep an eye open for anything suspicious, Jude. We can alert your daughter and your friends if something happens." Wilbert said. Jude agreed to that and the two of them went off in different directions.
"I guess the only thing we can do now is wait for our phantom friend." Gray said. That's exactly what they did. They just waited and waited, but nothing ever happened. The sun has almost completely set and there was still no sign of the phantom. People were starting to get annoyed and were starting to think the whole thing was one big let down. Even the gang couldn't understand it.
"I don't get it." Lucy said. "It's almost time for Blight to go on stage and perform. Is the phantom planning to wait until after the concert?"
"Maybe Thornston really is the phantom and he got what he wanted. There's quite a crowd here." Erza said.
"That can't be it. If this whole thing was about the band, why did the phantom even attack Natsu and Happy when it first appeared?" Gray said.
"It doesn't make any sense. What does this phantom want?" Lucy said as she tried to figure it out. Even Happy was getting bored and he's usually the cowardly one of the group. Even Happy is hoping for something exciting as he was trying to tell you Natsu.
"You said it, Happy." Natsu said. "This phantom is one strange case." Happy was trying to say something else, but it was how he said it that put things together. "You're right. This mystery is a real diamond in the rough." When Natsu translated that, something clicked in Lucy.
"Diamond in the rough... Diamond in...the rough... Diamond!" Lucy said as she might have put the pieces of something together.
"Well, it looks like there was really nothing to worry about so far." Jude said as he came over. "I haven't seen Wilbert, but it looks like everything is okay. It seems like this phantom was bluffing."
"No! We just got it wrong!" Lucy said. "Guys, we need to get moving! Now!" Lucy insisted as she just ran off. The others didn't get it, but they just followed after her.
"Lucy, wait a minute!" Erza said.
"There's no time! We need to get to the museum!" Lucy said.
"The museum?! Why there?! The phantom is suppose to be here!" Gray said.
"No! He only wanted us to think he was going to be here! This is nothing but one big distraction!" Lucy said. "Remember that piece of paper I found! It had the letters K and D on it! That stood for King Henry's Diamond! The phantom is really going after the diamond back at the museum!" When Lucy said that, the pieces were starting to come together. They were all just duped by the phantom. "We need to get to the museum before it's too late!" All of them jumped inside the Myster-V and hurried to the museum, hoping it's not too late to catch that phantom thief.
