"Aloha, Hawaii!" Erza said as she and the gang stepped on the sands of the Hawaiian beaches. The gang has arrived in Hawaii and it was literally paradise there.
"Lucy, it's awesome that your aunt flew us out here." Gray said.
"You said it! Just take a look at that water!" Natsu said as he and Happy spotted the ocean. "Fun in the sun, here we come!" He cheered as he and Happy charged right for the water. However, a guy with dark skin and dreadlocks tied back held out a surfboard and caused Natsu to trip and fall in the sand. "Hey! What was that for?!"
"Go back, mainlander. These waters are for locals only."
"Says who?" Natsu said.
"Says Moon Doggie." He said as he introduced himself. "Those waters were meant for us locals, so stay away." He said and went straight for the water.
"Moon Doggie? Locals only? Since when did we enter a 70's beach movie?" Natsu said with Happy thinking he was just weird.
"Sorry, guys. We're not here on vacation anyway, we're here on business." Lucy said. "Aunt Anna flew us out here because she needs out help."
"And I'm so glad that you're here!" They all looked and saw Lucy's aunt arriving with a Hawaiian business man.
"Aunt Anna!" Lucy said as she ran over and hugged her as she was glad to see him again.
"It's so great to see you again, Lucy." Anna said. "Let me introduce you. This here is Koa Kaimana." She introduced as they all shook hands.
"I am glad all of you are here. I happen to run the Crystal Flower hotel here on this island." Koa said. "Miss Heartfilia and I here were old business partners. She told me about what you all do, and I'm hoping you can help me with a situation."
"What situation? What's going on?" Gray questioned. Koa was about to explain when they all heard the sound of people screaming from the beach. They all looked and saw them running, and they could all see the cause was a shark fin sticking out of the water.
"Oh no! He's here!" Koa said as he seemed scared. It looked like a normal shark fin until they saw it moving closer to land and saw it was a monster. As it unleashed a scary snarl, they could see it had the body of a man with it being dark grey and white with it also having the head of a hammerhead. "It's... It's Nanaue!" The monster ran out on land and was heading for the gang. "Quick! Inside the hotel!" He said as they all ran for cover. They all ran straight to the hotel with the monster chasing after them. They all made it to the hotel with Natsu and Gray keeping the doors shut.
"Quick! Barricade the door!" Gray said. Everyone acted quickly and did what they could to block the door. The monster did bang against the door to let itself in with everyone hoping it would hold. The monster kept going until it just stopped and walked away from the hotel.
"I think it's gone." Lucy said as they were all glad that it left. "Now will someone please tell us what is going on."
"It all started a couple weeks ago." Koa said as he began to explain everything. "There have been people saying they've seen some sort of shark creature, but I just thought it was a regular shark sighting until I saw the monster for myself. It was actually Nanaue."
"Nana-who?" Natsu questioned.
"Nanaue. It's a being from Hawaiian mythology." Anna said. "A creature that's part man, part shark. This is why I called you all to come down here. Nanaue has been terrorizing the beach and no one knows what it even wants."
"People are checking out of my hotel and aren't coming back. This is all kinds of bad for business." Koa said.
"Don't worry. We'll figure out what's going on." Erza said.
"And then can we have some fun in the Hawaiian sun?" Natsu said with Happy pleading.
"We'll see, but now we have a shark to catch." Gray said as they got themselves another mystery.
...
The Beach
Now that they have another mystery on their hands, the gang got straight to work. The first place they searched was the beach where Nanaue first appeared.
"Anyone find anything?" Gray questioned.
"Nothing. It's like the monster just disappeared. Maybe it went back into the ocean." Erza said. They kept on searching until they heard the beeping of a small truck. They looked and saw someone dressed like a security officer pull up.
"Okay, okay! Nothing to see here! This is a crime scene and you all shouldn't be here!" He said as he walked on over.
"Who are you?" Lucy asked.
"Rod Mona. I happen to work on this beach as security. This place might look like paradise, but someone has to keep it that way. Now all of you out of here!"
"But we're trying to solve the mystery of Nanaue." Lucy said.
"No! No! Leave that to police work! Now all of you get out of here!" Rod said as he practically tried pushing them all off the beach. As he did that, Lucy took a look at the back of his truck and noticed some strange equipment. "Now stay off the beach and don't get involved with anything!" He warned before he got in his truck and drove off.
"He sure seemed like he was in a hurry to get us out of there." Erza said.
"I'll say. He had some weird looking equipment in his truck for someone who does security around here." Lucy said.
"Hold up. Looks like Happy found something after all." Gray said as Happy was jumping around and pointed to something. It was a trail of water. "A trail of water. It looks like it was left by Nanaue."
"But they don't go to the ocean. It leads to somewhere else." Erza said.
"You think a shark creature would feel more comfortable in the water." Lucy said. "Let's see where it's really going." All of them followed after the trail and possibly to the monster.
...
The Gang
All of them followed the trail and it was leading them to a small business.
"Beachies Rental? What kind of business is this?" Gray questioned.
"It's a place where you can rent beach equipment. Stuff like surfboards, canoes, and anything else you might like to have some fun on the beach." Lucy said. "Why would the monster come here?"
"Let's go talk to the owner." Erza said.
"Renting your own board rather than owning!" All of them looked and saw Moon Doggie was there as well. "Typical of you mainlanders. You're not at one with the wave. Just go back to your land." He said as he just walked by.
"Who even talks like that anymore?" Natsu questioned. "The guys is asking to get his board smashed on his head." He claimed with Happy gesturing a moment like that.
"Just ignore him. We got more important things to do." Gray said as they all kept going. They all went up the business and saw the owner with him having tanned skin and shot black hair, but he appeared to be resting on the counter. "Uh... Hello? Excuse me?" Gray shook the guy awake and he was up. "Are you the manager?"
"Huh? Oh, sorry. My name is Alex, and I do own this place. Can I help you with something?"
"Uh... We're looking for Nanaue. We followed a trail that brought us here. Would it be okay if he looked around?" Erza asked.
"Nanaue?! I surely wouldn't want to mess with that dude, but sure." Alex said and then gave off a big yawn.
"Are you okay?" Lucy asked.
"Sorry. The truth is I have insomnia, and I haven't been sleeping well lately." Alex admitted. "If you guys want to look around back, go ahead. I don't need more problems around here." Alex allowed them to go and the five of them went around back.
"Sure hope the guy is doing okay." Natsu said.
"Hey, check that out." Gray said as he spotted a shed. "I wonder what's in there." They were all going to have a look inside, but that was when they all heard growling and saw Nanaue came out from behind the shed.
"Oh boy! We're about to be shark bait!" Natsu said as they all backed away with Nanaue moving closer to them. "Happy! Do something?! It's technically a fish and you love fish!" He said, but Happy wasn't interested in this kind of fish. "How about for a fishy treat?" He said as he held up the box. Happy reached inside and took a pawful of treats. That is what energized Happy. As Nanaue was just about on top of them, Happy held out his paw and asked Nanaue to wait. Then, Happy reached inside Lucy's pockets and took one of her cards.
"Hey! What are you doing with my credit card?!" Lucy questioned. It was strange as Happy filled some proper paperwork for the store. Then, Happy ended up renting a fishing pole. As Nanaue was growing rather impatient, Happy put his plan into action. Happy went out on a speed boat that was just laying in the ocean. Then, Happy swung the line and got it around Nanaue and hit the gas on the boat. The boat took off and the pole was left in it with Nanaue being taken away.
"That was just weird." Erza said.
"At least shark face is gone." Natsu said.
"How weird that Nanaue just showed up like that." Lucy claimed. "I wonder what's in that shed that he didn't want us to see."
"Only one way to find out." Gray said as they went for the shed. They all went to the shed and opened it up to see it was just old trophies with articles.
"Check this out." Lucy said as she took one of the articles. "It says here that Alex was once a professional swimmer."
"But it also says he was blackballed from all competitions because it turned he was working with...drugs!" Erza said as she was quite shocked. That wasn't good. Even Happy stuck out his tongue and gave off a yuck-like sound.
"You said it, Happy. Drugs can be quite dangerous to your health." Lucy said.
"Why do people get involved in something like that?" Natsu said.
"Who knows... They probably don't believe the warnings they were told, they like how it makes them feel, and despite how illegal it is, people make a lot of money from it." Lucy said.
"Did Nanaue not want us to see this? I say we talk to him about this." Gray said as they went to confront Alex about it. All of them moved back to Alex and saw he was struggling to stay awake. "Alex! Hey!"
"What? What is it?!" Alex said.
"We saw inside your shed and found this!" Gray said as he held up the article they read. "Care to explain?"
"Oh... Okay..." Alex said as it sounded like he had regrets. "I was great swimmer and dreamed of competing in the Olympics, but then I got mixed up with the wrong people and soon found myself in jail. When I finally got out, I used what little money I had left and bought this place." He said as it seemed like he really regretted it. "I really messed up my life after that and my dreams were crushed." It seemed like he was really upset about the whole thing, and the gang felt bad for him thinking he was a bad guy. He just made a mistake and it cost him his life.
"It's okay, Alex. We just thought it was suspicious since the monster showed up around there." Lucy said. "Guys, I think we should go and just leave Alex alone."
"Good idea." Erza said as they all felt bad and just left Alex alone. As they were all walking away, Natsu spotted something else suspicious.
"Hey. Look at that." Natsu said. They all looked and spotted Moon Doggie and that rude Rod acting rather suspicious. "What are those two doing sneaking around here?"
"Not sure. We'll have to keep our eyes on them." Lucy said as this was rather suspicious.
...
Later
"Look at this! Sleeping at a fancy hotel for free!" Natsu said as he and the guys were settling in for the night. "How lucky are we?!"
"It's only for free because Lucy's family is paying for it." Gray said. "Besides, we still don't have clues about Nanaue. Let's try to get a good night's rest and start again tomorrow."
"Yeah. Time to go to sleep, Happy." Natsu said as they were ready to go to bed, but Happy looked out the window and spotted something. He was telling Natsu to come take a look. "What is it now?" Natsu took a look and saw what Happy saw. There was a lone boat out in the ocean. "Gray, there's a boat out there."
"At this time?" Gray said as he thought was weird. "Hold on. I've got a pair of binoculars." Gray reached in his bag and pulled a pair out. He took a look and tried to see what was going on. All he could see was one person dropping something in the water. "There's someone out there dropping something into ocean, but I can't see anything else. It's too dark."
"Should we check it out?" Natsu questioned.
"We need to know what's being dumped, but all the scuba places are closed. We'll have to wait until sunrise." Gray said.
...
The Next Day
"Okay, Natsu and Happy are going to dive down and see if they can find what was dropped in the ocean." Gray said. "The rest of us will stay up here in case something happens."
"Be careful down there." Lucy said.
"It's just a little water. What could happen?" Natsu said.
"The fact that the monster could be down there." Erza pointed out and made them less confident. Still, he and Happy slipped on the scuba gear and dived on inside the water. Since it was broad daylight, it also made it easier to see where they were even going. The two of them swam around an incredible world. Too bad they can't fully explore it. Although, Happy enjoyed seeing different kinds of fish around.
"Stay focus, Happy. We've got to find whatever was dropped out here." Natsu said as he looked around for it. "I think I just found it." Natsu spotted something strange. It looked like some sort of cylinder weighed down by a weight. "What is this?" He tried to get it free as he was able to disconnect the cylinder to the weight and got a hold of it. "I wonder what this thing could be?" He wondered about that until they heard a monstrous sound. They looked and saw Nanaue was coming their way. "Swim for it! Swim for your life, Happy!" The two of them swam as fast as they could with Nanaue chasing after them. The two of them tried swimming as fast as they could and kept running even after they emerged out of the ocean. Nanaue came running out of the ocean as well, but lost sight of them. Nanaue just ran across the beach and missed Natsu and Happy as they actually managed to hide by disguising themselves as sand sculptures. "I wonder if anyone has escaped a shark attack while the shark was on land."
"Natsu! Happy! Over here!" Erza called for them to regroup.
"Are you two okay?" Lucy asked.
"Yeah, and I think we got something." Natsu said as he handed over what he got. "I think he wanted to get this."
"What is it?" Gray questioned.
"Looks like some sort of case." Lucy said as she took it and examined it until she was able to pop it open. "Oh my...! There are drugs in here!"
"Down in the ocean?!" Erza said.
"I think this is all starting to make sense, but we still need to catch that shark." Gray said. "I think I've got a plan."
...
Later
"When I said I wanted fun in the sun, I was hoping to do more than just fishing." Natsu complained as he and Happy made it look like they were fishing. "Well, at least we'll go down for catching a shark with legs." He and Happy just sat there and continued to make it look like they were fishing until a shadow came over them from behind. They both looked up and saw Nanaue was coming for them on land this time. "Oops! Wrong fishing spot!" He said as they both tried to make a run for it.
"It's working." Gray said as he and the girls readied themselves. "Now all we have to do is wait for them to lure him into our pitfall and we throw the net right over him." Natsu and Happy kept on running and was heading for the pitfall. However, there was one problem. A crab was crawling around on the sand. Happy came running near it and it ended up pinching his tail.
"MMMMMEEEEEOOOOOOWWWW!" Happy jumped up in the air and landed right on Nanaue's head. Nanaue was taking off in a direction.
"No! He's going the wrong way!" Gray said.
"Happy!" Natsu called as he was worried about his little buddy. Nanaue was flailing around like crazy and couldn't see where he was going. That's what caused him to smash right into a palm tree and fall to the ground. "You got him, Happy!"
"Not our original plan, but it works." Gray said.
"Check it out, Happy." Natsu said as he managed to get the crab off. "We got the biggest catch of the day." He joked.
"But who is Nanaue?" Erza said.
"Only one way to find out." Lucy said as they helped Nanaue up and Lucy ripped off the mask.
"Alex?!"
"You blasted kids." Alex complained. Once they got Nanaue unmasked, the gang called for Anna and Koa to show them they caught the monster and moved to the big reveal.
"I knew Nanaue had to be a great swimmer considering it spent a lot of time in the water, and had to get these cases filled with drugs that were at the bottom of the ocean." Lucy said. "They were weighted down so the current wouldn't carry them away."
"Of course! Alex was professional swimmer who worked with drugs!" Gray said. "To think he put on that act to make it look like he regretted when he's clearly still in it."
"During the night, someone was dumping this stuff and Alex dived down to get it." Erza said. "He used the myth of Nanaue to scare people away from the beach to help ensure he retrieves the cases. With a monster roaming around these waters, less people would get in the way."
"Well, I say his scaring days are done. Great work." Koa said.
"He's right. I knew you all would handle this." Anna said. "Oh, good! Here are the authorities!" They all looked to see a truck pull up and saw it was Rod.
"Good work, kids. I'll take it from here." Rod said as he put Alex in cuffs to take him away.
"I don't think so." Lucy said. "I thought there was something suspicious about you, Rod Mona, and it turns out that no security place has you working for them. You're no authority figure at all. Alex had a partner in this and that would be you."
"It was you dumping those cases out in the ocean. You met with someone out in the ocean and then drove back here for Alex to retrieve them." Erza said. "You wanted us off the beach to make sure we wouldn't find anything." It looks like they were right with how nervous Rod looked.
"Well, I'm not going back to jail because of you meddling kids." Alex said as he actually betrayed his partner and pushed him in the way as he tried making a run for it. He didn't get very far as Moon Doggie showed up and knocked Alex against the ground.
"I don't think so. I can take it from here." Moon Doggie claimed.
"You again. Who are you?" Natsu said.
"Forgive my rudeness from earlier. My real name is Mason Moon. I'm actually ATF." He said as he pulled out his badge and showed that he was the real deal with the gang amazed about this. "We've been weary of a drug operation going on for some time. Thanks to you kids, we can shut it down."
"Wow! We're just glad we helped." Erza said as this was one of their biggest wins.
"And now, we can finally have some beach fun!" Natsu said as he couldn't wait to finally enjoy Hawaii...and still have to wait. Just then, rain started to pour down at the worst possible time. So much for fun in the sun. "I'm starting to think Hawaii is overrated."
