The life of navy officers is they travel over sea and go where they are needed. Their job is to protect our country from the sea and do what they must. That is what's happening on a marine ship out in the middle of the ocean.

"How's it going down there?" An admiral asked as his men were monitoring the progress of a submarine out in the ocean.

"So far, so good." The admiral kept his eyes on the matter. Meanwhile, down in the ocean was a submarine running routine procedures. It seemed like everything was normal, but that didn't last. A school of fish came at the ship and was surrounding it. It looked like they were attacking it.

"Sir! Come in! It's happening again!"

"What's the damage?! What's attacking this time?!" The admiral asked.

"A school of small fish, but... Wait... There's more! Sharks, swordfish, and more! They're everywhere and their attacking the sub!" The submarine was actually being attacked by fish. It was completely unnatural. How come fish are attacking a submarine? Why would they be doing something like this in the first place?

"Get out of there now! Pull out of that sub before it's too late!" The admiral ordered.

"Sir, what are we going to do?"

"We'll have to call in some experts." The admiral said as he held up an article of the one and only mystery solving gang that can help them.

...

Later

The gang learned what it feels like to be drafted. They were called in to help by the Navy themselves. They almost couldn't believe it, especially when they're flying out to the ship out in the middle of the ocean.

"I can't believe this is actually happening to us." Lucy said.

"Even the Navy is calling for our help on something?" Erza said. "I knew we were making a name for ourselves, but I had no idea we already reached this far."

"Hey. What's with Happy?" Gray asked as Happy was trying to look joyful, but was shaking at the same time.

"Happy's having mixed feelings about this? You know cats hate water, but Happy sure does love a nice fish...and we might get the best fish right here." Natsu said. This experience might be tough on the little cat.

"Brace yourselves, guys. I think we're here." Lucy said. They could see the ship up ahead and was heading straight down for it. Their ride landed down and the five of them were meeting with the admiral himself.

"Welcome aboard, mystery solvers. I'm the one in charge around here. I am Admiral Kings." He said with him saluting at them and they all salute back. "I'm hoping you actually can help us. This is a little unorthodox, but we're not exactly dealing with a normal situation."

"And you want our help? How flattering." Gray said.

"I heard what you all did for General Bricks and this...Zombie Soldier. I'm hoping you might be able to do the same out here." Kings said.

"You mean you want our help to solve a mystery. Our reputation really is growing." Lucy said. "What exactly the situation? Where's the unnatural activity happening?"

"We're floating on it. We're dealing with a...haunted ocean." Kings said. All of them were a little astonished when they heard that. They looked out the ship and could see they're completely surrounded by hundreds of miles of haunting.

"Did you just say the ocean is haunted?" Gray said as that sounded bizarre to them.

"Well, maybe haunting isn't the right word to use." Kings said. "All I know is that what's been happening isn't natural. The sea life that lives here has actually been acting rather strange. If this keeps up, it could cause some interference in our missions. We can't afford setbacks like this, especially if an enemy attacks. Assuming what I heard about all of you isn't just talk."

"It's not, but this sounds a little unusual already." Gray said.

"I'll say." Lucy said as she walked over to the side of the ship and stared out there. "A haunted ocean? Fish attacking people? I think I saw a movie about something like that." As Lucy looked around, she noticed something attached to the ship and it didn't look right. "Admiral King, what is that thing on that ship? That doesn't look right." All of them came over and took a look to see some sort of dish attached to the ship.

"That there would be the latest installment in our technology." Kings said. "It's design to unleash soundwaves that act like sonar at a high level. It's meant to help us find enemies that might be out at sea, and it can reach very far. We'll be alerted to attacks at sea before they even happen."

"Impressive. Whoever designed that must be a real genius." Erza said.

"You can go meet that genius. Our ship is the only one with the installment, and he's right here on the ship." Kings said. "Officer Brigs! Officer Ramon!"

"Yes, sir!" Two officers stepped forward.

"These two officers will show you around. I'm sure you all aren't familiar with the layout of this ship, so it can be easy to get lost around here." Kings said. "No offense, but I also don't like civilians roaming around here unsupervised. Wherever you all are going, you don't go anywhere without them."

"That should be fine with us." Gray said.

"Show these people to the lab." Kings said.

"Right this way." Brigs said as the two petty officers showed the gang around the ship so they can solve the mystery of the haunted ocean.

...

The Lab

The two petty officers showed them down to the lab. It was a good way to see what the inside of a Navy's ship is like.

"There's more twists and turns than a subway in here." Natsu said. "How do you guys know where you're going?"

"You get use to it." Brigs said.

"You kind of have to." Ramon said. "The lab should be just up ahead." They all could see the lab and were able to go inside. When they did, they could only see one person working in it.

"Sorry. You know I don't like revealing my secrets until the big reveal." The only scientist in there had black bowl-cut with glasses. Dressed like your stereotypical nerd. The weird thing was that he appeared to be the same age as the gang. Another weird thing was that Erza was hit with a sense of familiarity.

"Gabe? Gabriel Logger?!" Erza said and got his attention.

"Erza?! I don't believe it!" Gabe said.

"You two know each other?" Lucy said.

"Yeah... We went to camp together when we were kids." Erza said like she hated to admit. "Gabe, you're working for the Navy at your age?"

"Sure do. They love my genius intellect." Gabe said. "What are you doing here? Did you miss me?" He said smoothly.

"Like I miss a rash." Erza mumbled.

"We're trying to solve a mystery." Gray said. "Are you really the one that put that satellite dish thing on the side of the the ship?"

"Sure did, and it's on the submarine as well." Gabe said. "It's called the Sonar-X-5000. It's capable of generating soundwaves that scan the area for enemy attacks. The sea water helps it reach even further."

"Did you say sound? I didn't hear anything." Natsu said.

"That's because it's at a frequency humans can't hear. We wouldn't want enemies to be aware of our presence." Gabe said. "Maybe we could talk about it some more, Erza. It would be nice for us to catch up." He said as he tried implying he had other ideas.

"Uh... Maybe some other time. We do need to solve a mystery as to why fish are attacking the ship." Erza said.

"This might be able to help." Lucy said as she went over to a computer. "I might be able to gain access to the ship's logs. Maybe we can figure out what's going on if I..." She reached for the computer, but Officer Brigs stepped in the way and blocked her.

"I'm sorry, but civilians are not allowed to use our military computers." Brigs said.

"But I could figure something out." Lucy claimed.

"Civilians are not allowed to use our computers." Brigs repeated as he tried to look more intimidating. That convinced Lucy to back off.

"Hey! Back off from my girl!" Natsu said.

"That's okay. We should be going anyway." Erza said as she practically pushed her friends out of the lab.

"Okay. Bye, Erza. It be romantic if this became our own little love boat." Gabe said, but that gave Erza goosebumps.

"Love boat?" Gray teased.

"He has a bit of a crush on me. I was really the only kid at camp that was nice to him." Erza said. "How long has Gabe worked here exactly?"

"That smarty-pants? He might be young, but he is a genius. He won his school's science fair and his genius got the attention of the military." Ramon said. "He's been here for about a few months, but I never really thought he fit-in."

"You can say that again. He usually just keeps to himself in the lab." Brigs said.

"Well, Gabe always was socially awkward." Erza said.

"Erza, as nice as it is to see your old friend, we do have to work to do." Lucy said and turned to Brigs and Ramon. "Since you two will be following us around, what can you tell us about the attacks?"

"It's rather weird. We've had many different kinds of fish attack us. We're trained to deal with enemy attacks, but not attacks from fish." Brigs said.

"Different kinds of fish have attacked our sub or even the bottom of the ship itself." Ramon claimed. "It's unusual behavior since nothing like this has ever happened."

"Sounds like whatever is going is happening in the water itself." Lucy said.

"We're gonna have to go into the ocean and see what's going on down there for ourselves." Gray said. "Which means we'll have to ask Admiral Kings to let us on their submarine and head straight down."

"You really think he'll let us do that?" Erza questioned.

"Sure. We have to do it to solve the mystery. Why wouldn't he?" Gray questioned as he thought for sure they would get on.

...

The Admiral

"No." Admiral Kings said when they asked if they could go on his submarine. "I am not letting civilians on our submarine. You should consider yourselves lucky I even let you on the ship in the first place."

"But how are we going to solve this mystery if we can't go into the ocean?" Gray asked. "Admiral, you have to let us on."

"I don't HAVE to do anything. Keep in mind that you are on MY ship." Kings said.

"Boy, it sure seems like people don't really want us to do anything when they asked for our help." Natsu whispered to Happy.

"I heard that, boy." Kings said. "Do you have any idea what the media will say about this? What about our enemies? They'll view us as weak if they know we let civilians handle our problems rather than those with clearance. I dedicated my life to the Navy and I won't allow anyone to sully it's name."

"And how do you think it's going to work when word gets out when you couldn't handle mere fish?" Lucy said as she brought up a good point with that. That convinced Kings to change his mind and allow a few of them on the sub so they can see what's happening. When he agreed, they all headed straight for the submarine.

"Okay, Admiral Kings said we all can't go down, so we'll have to split-up. Natsu, Happy, and I will go in the submarine and see what's going on." Gray said. "You girls stay up here in case you find anything." They were all fine with that as Gray and Natsu were able to climb inside the submarine and the sub headed straight down for the water.

...

The Submarine

The submarine was already underneath the water and was just running a usual route. The guys were amazed since they've never been in a submarine before.

"This place is awesome. Right, Happy?" Natsu asked, but he noticed something with Happy. Happy was holding his ears and appeared to be upset about something. "What's wrong, little buddy? Something hurting your ears?" He said with concern as he lifted Happy up and tried to comfort him.

"This is so cool, but seeing things like this doesn't help." Gray said. "Is there a way to see what's happening outside the submarine?"

"We have external cameras. Bringing them up right now." Natsu and Gray looked to the screens and could see what was outside. It was rather impressive that they could see something like this.

"Now, let's see if we can figure out what's going on with these fish." Gray said.

"You mean those fish?" Natsu questioned as he pointed to one of the screens and could see a whole school of fish acting bizarre. It wasn't just regular fish either. There was a variety of them attacking the ship. They all could hear the fish banging against the submarine and it was strange with how they were acting as well as unsettling.

"Uh... We're safe in here, right?" Natsu asked.

"We are. None of them have really been able to get inside, and getting too close to the motor will turn them into sushi. However, this is causing interference and hindrances. Plus, the ship can only take so much."

"Really? Have you ever faced something like that?" Natsu said as he pointed to something on the screen...something big. All of them looked on the screen and could see it on the screen, but couldn't tell what it was. Suddenly, a massive eye appeared on the screen and attacked the ship. Some sort of massive squid-like creature attacked the ship and was actually dealing more damage than any of the fish could.

"What is that thing?!" Gray said.

"I don't know, but I do know we're going to be sunk if we stay here." Natsu said. He was right as alarms were starting to go off. Being trapped on a submarine with nowhere to go is not an enjoyable experience, especially if it was going to come apart. "Can't you blast that thing with torpedoes or something?!"

"Not without blowing ourselves up!" That squid was dealing more damage than the other fish. It was looking bad until something apparently blasted against the sub and knocked the squid off the submarine.

"What happened?" Gray said.

"Look!" They all looked to the screen and could see a whale passing through the ship. "It's a sperm whale. It must unleashed it's own sonic blast that stunned some of the fish. We're using opportunity to surface!" All the men got to work and got out of them out of there. As for Gray, he turned to the screen to see the squid-like monster plummeting down the ocean. Whatever that thing was, it certainly didn't look natural.

...

The Ship

After returning to the ship, the guys were glad to be back on it. After an experience like that, the gang regrouped and talked about what just happened.

"That thing was huge." Gray said. "I swear it's eye was about the size of a large pizza. Knowing that, just imagine how big the rest of it was."

"That was nuts." Natsu said.

"I'll say." Erza said. "Whatever that thing was that attacked the sub did some real damage. It actually left dents in it. You guys were lucky to get out of there when you did. On top of that, poor Happy was miserable. He couldn't even enjoy his favorite food." She said as she petted Happy.

"Why wasn't that whale affected?" Natsu questioned.

"It could be because whale's are mammals and not fish." Lucy said. "That still doesn't explain how they've been acting."

"Other than the squid, I didn't really see anything unnatural." Gray said. "Do you guys think whatever that thing was had something to do with why those sea creatures are acting up?"

"It's hard to say." Lucy said. "I tried gaining access to the computer on the submarine, but Brigs wouldn't let me." Lucy said as she looked at their two escorts. "He's sure doing his best to keep us off the computers. I wonder what he could be hiding."

"They might seem strict, but it does take great discipline to be out here." Erza said. "Still, it does seem like he's hiding something."

"But what are we going to do? We don't have any clues or leads as to what could be causing all of this." Gray said. "Here we are on a floating maze and we can't find anything."

"Actually, we just might." Lucy said as she held up a test tube and it had water in it. "I did managed to get a sample of the sea water. I can use the lab to analyze it. If there's something abnormal in the water, it could explain why the fish are acting the way they do." That sounded good to all of them. This might be their only lead.

...

The Lab

With help from Gabe, the gang hit the lab and tried to analyze a water sample thinking there's something in the water. Lucy and Gabe worked together to analyze the water with the rest of the gang and Kings waiting for some results.

"I got it!" Gabe said. "I finished analyzing the water...that's just as clear and beautiful as you, Erza."

"Just tell us what you found." Erza said with annoyance.

"Right... I'm sorry, but there's nothing. It's just regular salt water." Gabe said with everyone disappointed in the results. "I'm really sorry, guys. Either you didn't bring the right sample or there was something you missed."

"There has to be something." Lucy said as she looked it over again.

"Perhaps it was a mistake letting you kids on this ship. You clearly don't know what you're doing." Kings said as he was starting to doubt them.

"Normally, we're going after ghosts. This whole thing is just...fishy." Natsu joked, but everyone groaned from that. "Someone had to say it. Still, if it's nothing in the water...it's got to be something on the ship. What else could there be?" Natsu said as he was starting to get rather annoyed himself.

"Now see here...""Wait!" Lucy interrupted as something was going on in her head.

"Natsu might be on to something. Let me just check a few things." Lucy said as she got on the computer and started doing some research.

"Hold on! You are not authorized!" "Knock if off and let her do her thing!" Natsu said as he kept Brigs from stopping Lucy.

"Lucy, what are you looking for?" Gray questioned, but Lucy just ignored him and kept on going.

"I got it! I know who caused all of this!" Lucy said. "Gabe!" She said as she pointed at him with all surprised. "It was Gabe's device that was causing this entire mess."

"What?! Me?" Gabe said.

"Don't act surprised. You knew this was happening, but you ignored that safety precaution." Lucy said.

"How is his device doing it?" Gray questioned.

"Gabe's device is sending out soundwaves to be used like sonar, and it's at a frequency humans can't hear." Lucy explained. "That doesn't mean it's not there. Also, water acts like a resonator for sound making it stronger and reach farther. That sound affected the fish in the sea. It traveled through their ear-like receptors and affected their brains. The same thing can happen to humans. The fish acted disoriented and agitated because of the sound. It's also why Happy's ears were hurting. Those devices are on the ship and submarine."

"But what about Brigs? It sure seemed like he was trying to hide something." Natsu said.

"I did manage to take a quick look." Lucy said as they were all impressed with how fast Lucy works. "Turns out, he just didn't want others to know he's been using military-grade computers for personal use like messaging his sweetheart back home." She claimed with his associates glaring at him and Brigs giving off an innocent smile.

"But what about that squid that attacked the sub? That didn't look natural." Gray said.

"That's all it was." Lucy said.

"You mean...the monster was real?" Erza said.

"It wasn't a monster. It was a type of squid called a colossal squid." Lucy said. "We don't see them that often because they live in the deepest parts of the ocean. It must have just been within range of the soundwaves and was affected as well. Once the device is shutdown, those poor creatures won't be bothered ever again."

"I swear I didn't mean to cause any harm or problems." Gabe said as he was admitting to what he did. "I just didn't want to lose this amazing job. I thought working here would impress Erza."

"You mean you risked it for me?" Erza said as she was touched, but also a little disturbed.

"That's right, and I would have had everything under control if you guys wouldn't be so meddling." Gabe said before Kings ordered his men to take him away.

"Well, I'm afraid you won't be keeping your great job here. Perhaps you kids aren't so bad after all." Kings said.

"Thank you, but as helpful as Gabe's device might be, you need to shut it down. It's greatly hurting the sea life." Lucy said. "It could also cause problems for your missions."

"You're right about that. We'll get to work on that and we can get back on track." Kings said. "Now that we have that taken care of, I'll arrange for you all to get home." He said as he left the lab and things could finally get on track.

"Well, that's another mystery wrapped up." Gray said.

"Yeah. Who knew Erza's nerdy boyfriend could cause such big problems." Natsu teased.

"Don't even go there." Erza claimed. "Let's just get ready to head back to shore."

"Hang on. Where did Happy go?" Natsu said as he was gone. In truth, Happy was up on deck and doing some fishing now that he can enjoy his paradise. That's just what Happy did as it was able to pull up a fish and could now actually bite back. It seems those fishies aren't done suffering yet.
