For some reason, two people were meeting out in the middle of nowhere on a road at night. They were in two different cars and were able to meet up with each other. One of them was a man with black hair and dressed in a suit.
"Hello, Dexter." His attorney said. "First, let me say that I'm sorry. Second, here it is." He said as he showed a case full of cash and handed it over. "Here is every cent your father left for you."
"Thank you, but why did you want us to meet here? Why not your office?" Dexter asked.
"Huh? What are you talking about? You told me you wanted to meet here." The attorney said, but that was rather strange. Just then, they heard some sort of mourning coming from the trees. Then, something flew out of the trees. It was a ghost dressed in a black suit with a top hat and had a pointy chin and had a mustache that connected to his sideburns.
"You will pay!" The ghost called as he dived straight at them and just missed them. Both of them were rather freaked by this as the attorney just got in his car and drove off. That left Dexter alone with the ghost attacking him.
...
The Gang
"We'll be there soon, guys. Home sweet home." Gray said as they were driving through the area.
"Good because some of us would like to get home from those who are so dense." Lucy said as she sounded upset with a certain someone.
"Oh yeah? Well, one of us like some peace and quiet from some noisy blondes." Natsu claimed. It sounds like the two were having trouble in paradise with the others a little concerned about them. However, there was no time to think about it as they saw someone run straight out with a case. They had to pull right over and was met with Dexter.
"Hey! Are you okay?!" Gray asked.
"No time!" Dexter said as he made his way to the back of the van and got inside. "Just please help me get out of here." That was when the ghost flew out and flew around the van. The gang got a little freaked. Happy even jumped right on Natsu's face out of fear and his nails hurting Natsu. Gray just stepped down on the gas. The Myster-V took off with them leaving that ghost in the dust.
"What was that thing?!" Erza said.
"Was that a ghost?!" Lucy said.
"What's going on?" Natsu said as he tried to pull Happy off.
"That there was the ghost of Edgar Bowler." Dexter said as he seemed a little freaked. Seems like the gang just found themselves a mystery.
...
Dexter's House
The gang took Dexter back to his house. When they brought him there, two people were there. One had curly sandy brown hair with facial hair with a yellow jacket, white shirt, and pants. The other was a woman with wavy brown hair wearing a grey sweater and black pants.
"Thank you for bringing my husband home." The lady said.
"We were glad to, Mrs. Anders." Lucy said.
"Still, we have questions. What exactly happened, Mr. Anders?" Gray asked.
"Please, call me Dexter." He said as he relaxed on a chair. "This is my brother, Curtis, and my wife, Dana."
"Okay, but can you still tell us what happened?" Erza asked. "Who is Edgar Bowler?"
"It all took place with our grandfather: Jackson Anders." Curtis said. "He and Edgar Bowler were once business partners. They started a pharmacy together and it ended up being a big hit."
"However, Edgar started stealing the money that all went to the pharmacy because he claimed it's rightfully his." Dexter said. "Our grandfather turned him in and he was arrested, but Edgar claimed our grandfather betrayed him and swore he would have revenge. Now it looks like his ghost has risen."
"What did his ghost want with you if it was your grandfather he was upset with?" Natsu asked.
"I work as a diplomat, but our father continued working the pharmacy." Dexter said. "Whenever I was home, I did my best to help him out. I'm home now because our father recently passed away."
"Dexter was out just now meeting with the attorney for this. It's the inheritance." Curtis said as Dexter opened up the case and showed the money. "This is the money our father made from running the pharmacy. He wanted Dexter to have it."
"But the weird thing is that we both got a message saying to meet in the middle of nowhere. We thought the other sent it." Dexter claimed. "That's right about when it all started and I ran into you guys. It seems that Edgar still thinks the money is his and now wants vengeance."
"I highly doubt that was a real ghost, but it's possible someone is trying to scare you because they want that money." Lucy said.
"Who would do something like that?" Dana questioned as the thought gave her a good scare.
"Don't worry, we'll help." Erza said. It was then she noticed the bracelet on Dana with all the charms. "That's a lovely bracelet, Dana."
"Oh, thank you. It's a charm bracelet. I add a new charm for each country my husband goes to with a prayer he comes back soon." Dana said.
"Dexter, can you show us where you first encountered the ghost?" Lucy asked.
"Sure, I left my car there anyway." Dexter said. "Curtis, could you stay with Dana and make sure she's protected. I'll take the money with me. If someone is after it, it might be safer if I'm holding it."
"No problem." Curtis said.
"All of you please be careful out there." Dana said.
"You'll have to tell that to the hothead behind me." Lucy said.
"Me?! You're the one getting kidnapped!" Natsu said as he was offended by that. This might be a long night.
...
The Road
"This is where that ghost first attacked." Dexter said as he brought them to the road from where Edgar's ghost first attacked. When they arrived, the gang took flashlights and looked around for any clues.
"Hey, look here!" Natsu said as he already found something. "Tire tracks, and they seem to lead away from the road. That's strange."
"And look at all the branches. Something broke them off the trees." Lucy said.
"Brilliant, Miss Sherlock." Natsu mocked with the two of them glaring at each other. Whatever it is they're fighting about is starting to have the rest of the gang concerned about them.
"Do you even know what they're fighting about?" Erza questioned.
"Probably something stupid Natsu did, or maybe Lucy's just overreacting about something stupid like girls often do." Gray said. He shouldn't have said that.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Erza questioned as she doesn't like what Gray might be implying.
"No disrespect, but that's what you girls do." Gray said. "You overreact over things that aren't really that big of a deal. Oh no, I broke a nail. Oh no, my hair is ruined." He said trying to sound like a girl. "So what? What's the big deal?"
"Oh! Typical of a guy to say that! Nothing deep or meaningful when it comes to you!" Erza said. "They might be little to you, but they could be a bigger deal to us! If we complain about that stuff anyway, it's only because we work hard on that stuff! We act and look the way we do because society practically demands it of us!" It looks like the gang is having a bit of a rough patch tonight with Happy getting concerned for all of them.
"Hey! I found more over here!" Dexter called as he found more tracks. "They're leading in the direction I ran when you all found me."
"That means we're gonna have to follow these tracks to see where they came from." Gray said. "Thanks, Dexter. You already did more than enough to help us. We can take it from here. You should go and make sure your family is safe." Dexter certainly agreed to that as he got back in his car and drove out of there. When he left, the rest of the gang followed the trail to see where it came from. They walked a good distance until they noticed something off.
"Hey. Look at this." Erza said. "Another set of tracks that come back here. It must have come from where we first saw the ghost."
"It's heading off in one direction, but there's a set of footprints heading off in a different direction." Gray said.
"What the heck went on out here?" Natsu questioned.
"That's what we're trying to figure out, dunce." Lucy said.
"I'm a dunce?!" Natsu said as he was getting mad.
"Enough! Can we focus here?!" Gray said.
"Hold that thought. Who made you in charge in the first place? Why do you keep giving the orders?" Erza said as they were all getting on each others nerves.
"You know what, I think we should split-up differently this time." Gray said. "Natsu, Happy, and I will follow the footprints. You girls follow the tire tracks."
"Works for us." Erza said as they all went different directions in annoyance, but Happy was hoping they could all work things out.
...
The Girls
"What is wrong with boys, Erza?" Lucy questioned as they followed the trail.
"That is a question for the ages." Erza said. "I'm a bit upset with Gray because he sounded a little sexist, but what about you? You want to tell me what you and Natsu are fighting about?"
"Well..." Lucy was about to tell her when she spotted something with her flashlight. "Hold on. Look at that." She said as they found a truck in the middle of the woods. "What's this truck doing here?"
"The tires match the tracks we found." Erza said. "It's also got a crane with a hook on the end. I wonder this could be about." They found themselves a pretty big clue, but what could this have to do with that ghost?
...
The Boys
As for the boys, they were following the footprints to see where they lead to. As they were walking, Happy was trying to reason with Natsu about whatever it was that Lucy and Natsu are fighting about and they could make amends.
"No, Happy. I'm not going to apologize. Girls are jus whacked." Natsu said.
"Amen to that, but let's stay focus on the mystery." Gray said. "Hold on. Look there." The footprints were leading to a large sawmill by a river. "A sawmill. What could old Edgar being doing in there? Natsu, you and Happy check to see if the entrance is clear."
"Fine." Natsu said as he just didn't care with the two of them walking in. The two of them walked right into the mill and the placed looked completely abandoned. "No one's here." He said, but spoke too soon as the door was slammed shut right behind them.
"Natsu! Happy!" Gray called as he banged against the door, but it was locked and wouldn't open. It was then that Natsu and Happy were faced with Edgar's ghost.
"The Anders will pay, and you shall pay for interfering!" Edgar threatened.
"Pay? Sure! You wait here while Happy and I go get some money!" Natsu said as he and Happy ran off with Edgar chasing after them.
...
Chase Scene
Hey girl you got me running
Na na na na na na na
My heart is lost and my mind's gone running
Na na na na na na na
Tell me, tell me where you've been hiding
Natsu and Happy ran through the mill with the ghost chasing after them. They climbed their way up a ladder and went down a slide, but the ghost cut them off. They were sliding right to him until Natsu kicked him out of the way and the two kept running.
I took a look and I decided
Got to know why you mystify me
I can't see nothing but you
All I do, all day through, is think of you
The two of them tried hiding behind a firehose. When the ghost chased after them, they blasted him with all the water and knocked him back into some crates.
Hey girl you know you need me
Na na na na na na na
Open up your eyes and see me
Na na na na na na na
Tell me, tell me that we'll make it
If there's a chance, then I'm gonna take it
Here's my heart now, please don't break it
I don't want nothing but you
The two of them kept running through the mill and made their way up a ladder with the ghost chasing after them. When he was about to reach the top, they both jumped out a window.
There's so much that I wanna say now
Tell me, tell me, it's okay now
Say you love me, say you'll stay now
Tell me what to do...
Hey girl you got me running
Na na na na na na na
My heart is lost and my mind's gone empty
Na na na na na na na...
The two of them landed on a water wheel and ran on it like a treadmill, but the ghost landed down on it as well and kept chasing after them. Natsu and Happy jumped through a window, but when the ghost tried, they pushed a piece of log out and knocked him into the river with the current carrying him away.
...
"Bon voyage!" Natsu called as he and Happy waved him off.
"Natsu! Happy!" Gray called as he found them outside. "Are you two okay?!"
"Yeah! We just gave the ghost the slip!" Natsu said, but then he realized something. "Hold on. We saw him flying earlier, so why didn't he fly now?"
"Worry about that later. Get out of here and let's go." Gray said. Natsu and Happy liked the sound of that and got moving.
...
The Gang
After finding clues and getting chased by a ghost, the guys regrouped with the girls and they were getting their facts in order.
"You actually saw the ghost?" Erza said.
"Yeah, but he wasn't as scary as before. He couldn't even fly." Natsu said.
"That's because he's not a real ghost and we've already established that, you dimwit." Lucy said.
"Now you're just being mean!" Natsu said.
"Now who is the one overreacting?" Erza said as they were all getting on each others nerves. The four of them kept arguing with each other until Happy couldn't take it anymore. Happy freaked like a wild pussycat that just got his precious tail stomped on. Seeing Happy act that way, and oddly understanding him, it got the gang to settle down.
"Happy is right." Gray said. "Guys, we're suppose to be a team. We have to be if we're going to solve this mystery. Whatever issues we have, we're not going to let this ruin all of that, are we?"
"No... This is too important." Erza said as they all knew they had to put their jobs first for this.
"Fine, but that doesn't mean I forgive Natsu." Lucy claimed with Natsu annoyed. That was when they heard mourning coming from the trees and saw the ghost flying through the air once again.
"You will pay for interfering!" Edgar claimed as he flew down and after them.
"Run!" Gray said as they all tried to run for it with the ghost flying after him.
"I thought you said this wasn't a real ghost, Lucy!" Natsu claimed.
"Not now!" Lucy complained as they all kept running. The ghost continued to go after them and he was starting to gain on them. Just then, something happened and the ghost seemed to have lost control of himself and flew off in a different direction behind some plants.
"Baby!"
"Baby? What?" Gray said as that seemed rather strange. "Come on, guys! This could be our chance!" The gang hurried over to where the ghost fell. This was their chance to catch him, but he was already long gone. "Now where did he go, and whose voice did we hear?"
"What happened? It was like he lost control of himself." Natsu said.
"Hold on. Look here!" Erza said as they all saw the same truck that the girls found. "This is what Lucy and I found, and the truck is still running with the driver side open." She said as she climbed in and turned off the truck
"Now I get it. This must be how the ghost was flying." Lucy said. "The crane was used to help fly him around, and that's what also knocked off all the branches."
"Whoever was driving must have been the ghost's partner." Erza said as she looked around on the inside. "What's this?" She said as she reached down and found something small on the driver's seat. "I think I know what's going on, but we need to catch that ghost."
"And I think I have a plan to do that." Gray said as it was time to trap a ghost.
...
The Cemetery
After dealing with the ghost, Dexter has decided that he's going to give up the money. The only place to do that is Edgar Bowler's grave for his ghost to take it. That's what Dexter and his wife were doing as they drove up to the cemetery.
"Are you sure about this?" Dana said.
"I am. It's not worth if it's going to put us in danger." Dexter said as he climbed out of the car and went on in. Dexter walked through the dark and spooky cemetery until he could see Edgar Bowler's grave. Once he reached the grave, he placed the briefcase right at it. "Okay, Edgar! The money is yours! I don't want any trouble!"
"Very good." Dexter got spooked as he saw the ghost come out from behind the grave. "You made the right choice." He said as the ghost took the case. He opened it up to see the money was really there, but got something else instead. A boxing glove punch to the face. The surprise knocked him right back and caused him to fall into a pitfall that was dug for him.
"It worked!" Dexter called as the gang and Dana came out of hiding and gathered around him.
"Now let's see who this ghost really is." Lucy said. Erza reached down for the mask and pulled it right off to reveal the real face.
"Curtis?!" Dexter said as he couldn't believe it. "Why would my own brother do this?!"
"Why else? He wanted the inheritance for himself." Lucy said.
"It's true. I always knew you were Dad's favorite, at least you were to me." Curtis said.
"Curtis knew the story of Edgar Bowler himself." Lucy said. "That's how he came up with the idea to bring his ghost back. He was hoping to scare you into giving up the inheritance so he could take it for himself."
"He gave the illusion that the ghost could fly by using a crane and flying around with the hook attached to him." Gray said. "It was all nothing but mere greed for him."
"I almost can't believe it." Dana said as she was appalled that her own brother-in-law would do something like this.
"You can drop the act now, Dana." Erza accused.
"Act? What do you mean?" Dexter questioned.
"I hate to tell you this, Dexter, but your wife was in on it." Erza said as the others were surprised by that, but not as much as Dexter. "Someone had to drive the truck to help Curtis fly. It also seems like your wife has been seeing your brother behind your back since we heard her call him Baby."
"That is absurd." Dana claimed.
"But it's true. I found this in the truck when you left in a hurry." Erza said as she held up what she found: a charm. "It happens to match the charms you wear on your bracelet." All of them took a look at her bracelet and saw she was right. One of the charms was missing from Dana's bracelet.
"Dana..." Dexter said as he couldn't believe her own wife would betray him like this.
"Fine! You caught me!" Dana admitted. "Curtis and I were going to take the money and start new lives together!"
"You meddling kids! You've ruined everything!" Curtis said.
"Well, at least you two will be going to jail together." Gray said as another mystery was wrapped up.
...
A Diner
After another successful mystery, the gang decided to grab something to eat at a local diner. Still, this mystery really got to Lucy once she saw Dana went against her husband the way she did.
"I still can't get over what Dana did." Lucy said as she and Erza sat at the counter. "Why would she do something like this to her husband? She was married to him. The money would have been hers regardless. How could she do something like this?"
"It wasn't about the money for her. Apparently, Dana's been wanting out of the marriage for a long time." Erza claimed. "She couldn't stand being married to someone who travels so much. She fell for Curtis because he was there."
"But she never bothered to tell Dexter any of this. Poor guy..." Lucy said as she felt bad for him, but this put some perspective for her as she looked over to Natsu as he was talking with Gray and Happy. Rather than try to work on their relationship problems, Dana let things get out of hand. Seeing this had Lucy see that maybe she's been too hard on him. That's why she went on over, came from behind, and gave him a kiss to show she wasn't mad anymore.
"What was that for? I thought you were upset with me." Natsu said.
"Not anymore." Lucy said as she doesn't want to make the same mistake and ruin a great relationship. Whatever it was they were fighting about doesn't matter anymore. Seems like they only hit a rough patch that they can fix.
